TCL 10L - Hands On & First Impressions!

What's going on everyone, this is Kevin here coming at you with my hands on in first impressions, video of the TCL 10l. So let's get started, so this is the TCL 10l now I'd like to thank TCL for being kind enough to send this out to me to cover here on the channel. Of course, all opinions about this device are completely my own, as they are always now. TCL has been making some major moves over the years now, the company has gained significant market share when it comes to Smart TVs. They make some really nice affordable products in that segment. The company has also produced BlackBerry devices for a number of years, which they stopped doing several months ago, and the company has been selling Alcatel branded phones as well, I'm sure you've seen on this channel, a variety of different Alcatel devices featured here and those are all manufactured by TCL, so with their prior success in the mobile industry, TCL is taking things a step further with devices under their own brand, and one of those is the TCL 10 L.

Now here is the device right here. I did already set everything up for the sake of saving time, but let's take a look and see what all we get in the box. So here is the box. You can see there's a picture of the phone itself on the front. We have some highlights here on the side and that's about it.

So in the box we have a SIM card removal tool. We also have a little packet in here, so we get a TCL 10 L Quick, Start Guide. We also get a safety and precautions booklet here, and we get a clear plastic case included. So that's very cool. We have a cable here and this cable is a USB cable for charging and data transfer.

So there you are, and we have a TCL branded wall adapter and this wall adapter is 10 watts. Now the TCL 10 L is not quite available for purchase. Yet at the time of me recording this video, but it will be available very soon, so definitely keep an eye on the link in the video description, as I will be updating that as soon as the device is actually available now the phone will be offered at 249 dollars, which is a real good price. I know that's kind of a sweet spot for many people, as you're able to still get a very decent phone, but at the same time not spend too much money. Now this device is factory unlocked which is great as well.

The phone features a six point: five three inch display and look at how great the colors are on this display. Now to my understanding, TCL, with their vast experience with creating TVs and other displays, has taken that technology and used it in their smartphones. So this is certainly a very great looking display. It is LCD, though, but probably one of the best LCDs that I've ever seen now. TCL refers to this display, as a dodo display do TCH, and I'm guessing what they mean by that is that there's a dot instead of a notch? Here for the front-facing camera now the front-facing camera on the device is 16.

Megapixels, now stay tuned for the full review, which I eventually will be uploading here to see photo and video samples from the device. Now, in addition to being 6.5 3 inches, the display on the phone is 1080p. It features a PPI of 395 we're getting the 19 and a half by 9 aspect ratios, it's kind of a more narrow but tall form factor, and we're getting a 91% screen to body ratio. So that is very impressive. We do have a little of a thicker bottom bezel, but I don't mind that at all, and the great thing is that all the other bezels are tiny, so in general, having a 91% screen to body ratio is very impressive.

Now this phone features 64 gigabytes of internal storage, and, if that's not enough for you, you can also put a micro SD card into the phone. Now there is no wireless charging with the TCL 10 L, but the device does feature a fingerprint sensor on the back. So it is a very fast fingerprint sensor. So that's excellent to see there in addition to that, the device does support face, unlock, which TCL calls face key now on the back of the phone. We have kind of this unique camera setup here with quad cameras.

Now the phone has a 48 megapixel main camera, an 8 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera, a 2 megapixel depth, sensing camera for portrait mode and a 2 megapixel macro camera. Now the phone does feature portrait mode for both the front and rear cameras, which is great, but it is to see that we do get so many cameras here for a phone in this price range. Now the phone features six gigabytes of RAM and has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665. So that combination is gonna, give you very good performance with the phone, so it's going to run nice and smoothly. It's going to perform very well running all of your favorite applications.

I did install quite a few of my favorite apps on here to use as I test out the phone, but you can see how great the colors are on this device seriously, though, like colors really pop here, and I'm, especially excited to watch video content on the phone. Now speaking of performance, I did run a benchmark test here, and I got an overall score of 136 6 to 2. So comparing that to a flagship phone like the galaxy s, 20 ultra, which has a score of over 500,000 ? we're, certainly getting slower performance here, but keep in mind that this phone is being sold at a fraction of the price of a phone like the ultra. So this phone certainly isn't the fastest smartphone to ever exist, but at the same time it is going to offer performance that will satisfy. In my opinion, the majority of people out there, especially if you're someone who does like to use social media quite a bit and also likes to do phone calls texts and video calls.

This phone will be excellent for that. Maybe, if you're someone who does more high intensity gaming on your phone, or you're, someone that edits video on your phone, that you might want to consider a flagship, but otherwise this phone certainly will cover the needs of most people out there. Now with the device we get 4k video recording with the rear camera, which is really cool, and the front camera maxes out at 1080p. The device features a four thousand William hour internal battery, so they're beefy battery and the software on here is Android 10 now TCL has pre-installed a decent amount of applications here, but that's to give the phone kind of their own experience. So, for example, there's a gallery app that is not the stock Android app with a TCL plus application here, ? another cool button that they included on the launcher.

Is this lock button and when you tap on that it just locks the display, so not really anything too groundbreaking or revolutionary, but that is something that I've never seen on another smartphone so prior to me, making the review I'm definitely going to have to dig a little deeper into all of these first party applications here to see what all they have to offer. But I am a big fan of the software experience on here in general. You can see even the settings area here does look a bit different from your typical stock Android. But what I like about TCL's skin is that, yes, they have customized things, but everything that they've customized here does contribute to the experience, and it doesn't really seem like there's anything that they've modified here, that they've changed just for the sake of being different. All the changes that they've made here compared to stock Android is all things that make the devices experience better.

Now take a look at the hardware of the device. Of course, I already talked a lot about the front panel here, a really good-looking display on the phone. Some certainly a big fan of that I'm, pretty sure that if you went out in public and asked people how much this phone costs just by them, looking at the display itself, they would probably suspect the phone cost quite a bit more than 250, but on the left side of the phone we have the power button, and we have this button here, which is the smart key. Now. The smart key essentially is a special button on the device that you can customize to launch different apps and do different things.

So, for example, if I wanted to have the single press do something I could turn that on, and then I could do a variety of different functions here. I could have it launched a variety of different camera capabilities such as tapping on that button and having it go directly to portrait mode. I could have the button optimize. The device I can have the button. Do a screenshot or if I want to you, I can have it open up an app, so we're gone to open an app, and you get a list of your various apps here, so I'll have it open up Instagram when I single press on the button? Look at that that button now pulls up Instagram for me, so you can customize that to do whatever you want, but that's really cool I know, that's a feature that many people ask for all the time, but typically a lot of smartphone manufacturers just have that button, open up, Google Assistant or Bixby or one of those services, but having the ability to completely customize.

That button is really amazing. Also, of course, you can customize it by double tapping on it to launch a different app. So maybe you can do one tap for Instagram two tabs chat to taps for Snapchat. You really have a lot of different options here now, taking a look on the right side of the device with a power button and volume button, then, on the top we have the 3.5, millimeter headphone jack, and we've the noise-cancelling microphone. Then, on the bottom of the device, we have the speaker, USB-C, port for charging and data transfer, and we have the microphone.

Of course, the device has an all plastic build beyond the display, which is, of course, glass but I. Think it's a very great looking device. It looks really nice in general, so it's definitely a very classy phone overall and then, of course, taking a look at the back of the device. We have the camera module fingerprint sensor and TCL logo, but beyond that it has a very clean and minimalist design. So overall I'm very impressed with the TCL 10 l.

Of course, I'm going to have to spend a lot more time with this phone before I can give you my full review, stay tuned for other videos too, as I'm planning on comparing this phone to some other devices as well, and give me any other recommendations that you'd like to see about this phone here on the channel. But this is Kevin here. This is the TCL 10, l and I will see you in the next video.
