Google refers to the coating as a metal hybrid, but it's not really metal. It's just basically plastic and well plastic does make it, so the phone is far less likely to come flying out of your heads. It also serves to trap heat in general. The phone starts to slow down a little when placed under heavy workloads, although the average user will definitely not notice that I've reviewed other phones with similar internal components is -.
