T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G | unboxing and initial thoughts | 5G speed test

All right here it is today's. The day we got the Samsung Galaxy note 20 ultra 5g, which is pretty great. I had it delivered to FedEx. I picked it up. Furthermore, I did the trade-in of the iPhone and I got 200 accessories. So I got the clear protective cover.

Leather back cover, regular, clear cover and rugged protective cover right now, though, let's check out the phone all right, so normally I order directly from T-Mobile this time I actually ordered directly from Samsung. I believe this is the first phone I've actually purchased directly from Samsung uh inside the box. Here's this little Samsung pamphlet, standard, little uh, sim tool and then just regular paperwork does not appear to be a sim card in here. Okay, so there is a sim card here, not normally a black package. Just pretty neat inside the box.

You have. The charger inside here appears to be nothing inside. Here is strictly a c2c cable. So not a lot in the box this year, no headphones, no little tips for changing out the uh, sometimes there's a little tip for the s pen, but I never use any of those things. So that's perfectly fine with me all right for the device itself.

The bottom is the s pen, of course. So that's an all black s, pen, which is nice all right. So you can see the s pen from the previous year. It looks pretty much exactly well, I guess it's a little taller than the new one. I think this added some functionality, but I don't really use that pen that much I do like having it, but I don't actually use it a lot.

So there's the little hole where the fingerprint sensor would be on the back. You have this one to peel off. I don't know why there's a little square spot in there, there's a little lip right here to peel this one off since you're thinking so on the sims. On the note 10 there was this screen that you were meant to leave on and uh. It doesn't appear to have a pre-applied screen protector on this one, so that camera is pretty gigantic.

On top. There is a little plastic piece, so we can peel it off right here. All right, there's also one on the bottom, all right. It does not appear to be one on the side. The buttons are now moved to the side.

You can see on the note 10 they're on the left-hand side. Now I like an all black phone. I haven't had an old black phone in a while. You know the note 9 was blue and this one I got the white color. It stays in the case.

I pretty much never see that. So the only thing we see is the side piece here all right, so let's go ahead and power it on see what that first boot looks like, like. I said it's a T-Mobile phone, even though order from Samsung, so you can see how drastically different the camera bump in the note 10 plus was compared to this guy. Hopefully it means a much better camera experience, even though I'm pretty happy with the camera experience here, I would just hope. That's the reason they have that gigantic bump.

Oh, my goodness, I should've taken the pin out for this so yeah the pin change sides. I will take a little of getting used to I'm sure not too long, though all right we're connecting to my Wi-Fi, of course today is wednesday, August 19th. So it's not uh officially out until Friday, but I pre-ordered it, and you got an early course, and you get all these extra goodies from Samsung. So it's pretty good. I will not copy.

I like setting up a fresh phone, but just right there, you can kind of see the settings like just see how big the phone is. It's a little taller if I sign in my Gmail account all right, we're going to use fingerprints, of course, and we'll use a pin all right. So you can see, let's see if it does anything different, there's, obviously an in glass, and it should be the ultrasonic. Hopefully it's a little faster than it was previously. On the note 10 plus, I didn't think the note 10 plus was bad per se.

I just obviously want to be faster as fast as old school, uh, regular fingerprint scene and, like uh, the back of the bone style, fingerprint scanner. It certainly seems a lot faster for the uh accepting of the fingerprint process I mean I do want scam. She'll do want visual voicemail. I don't want this gap all right. Let me sign it to my Samsung account all right, we're sending Samsung.

So I did get a notification on my note, which is pretty cool and, of course you get a verification on your Samsung other Samsung phone Samsung's doing a pretty good job at uh trying to enhance security. I like that wallpaper, that's pretty good! All right. We go ahead and tap for weather info all right, and we can tell we're already still completing the setup here. So let's just take a look right out of the box uh what software version we are on! 3100, android, 10, one UI, 2.5, good security patches live first, but we'll see there's an update. That's let's take a look.

What's installed already. You have the Google apps, of course, and I use all these, so I don't have a problem, those being pre-installed, Microsoft, apps! I don't use one drive, so I will uninstall that we can only disable it Samsung apps. I use Samsung health and my files, the rest of those. Furthermore, I will just well video. Furthermore, I think you have to leave on, but I do use the notification feature of that and a couple other features and those I use from T-Mobile uh.

So not a lot of bloatware. You can see. You have YouTube music. The Samsung calendar is pre-installed, which I, like some people don't like, but I prefer that calendar over the Google calendar, the Samsung email client, is not pre-installed. So, let's just check uh, it's still installing a couple applications, but let's just check for uh purposes.

Here, let's just see what the storage looks like, so you can see.25 gigs out of 128 are currently used, not terrible, and we have 12 gigs of memory which I bought. The Samsung laptop got super ion it's funny. This phone comes with more storage, more memory, uh, maybe more storage than uh. That windows laptop came with, of course, that windows laptop. I could upgrade the memory, but 12 should be more than enough for this device.

All right. Let's see if there are any updates, so it does look like there is a software update uh on day one, and we'll bump it to the august first security patch. So that's good uh. Just for reference. My note that 10 plus is also an august update.

So here we go. We can see the fingerprint action. It seemed pretty quick uh. It does appear that the hole uh for the clock for the camera is a little smaller than it was previously. I know it's supposed to be.

I should know I know it's a little Louie. It does appear to be smaller, but again that could be just me excited to have a brand-new phone. I'm a big fan of Samsung phones. I've had multiple notes, I'm recording this on the lg v60 that I got, and I thought I would replace my note 10 with, but I didn't. Furthermore, I just kept the note 10 and just use the v60s camera.

The note 20 will be my personal daily driver. I bought this myself, I'm not famous enough on YouTube, but then to send me free phones. They should, but they don't all right. So we're booting back up all right, so we have successful software update and that should put us on the august first update all right, I'm going to do some setting up, and then we'll do a couple more tests and then uh we'll set up like I'll get my sim card in here, and we'll do some 5g tests, and then we'll just kind of wrap this one up all right. So it's a little later on now it's what 12 30.

So I've had a couple of hours with it. I've got some things set up on it and much like I told my brother-in-law, who has the same. We got the same phone today. It is love at first unboxing, my buddy tony the world-famous suck ass tony. He got the Pixel 4a that came in today, and he instantly regrets it he's already returning it, and I got the note 20, and I instantly love it.

So, let's just take a look. There's nothing really changed here. I mean there are things changed here, but for the most part, it's if you're a previous note user, it's going to be pretty standard to what you're used to seeing there we go. So I basically have it set up pretty similar to my current nope uh. I like the built-in wallpapers.

Let's take a look at those. I guess that's something! That's a little different this time around those video wallpapers pre-loaded wallpapers. They all look pretty good. I like the one that I have that's here, uh, and I did change it to. I have not changed it to dark theme.

Yet, let's see there, we go, so we're yeah. Now we're set up, basically how I would normally have it. I like that setup I like to get to my weather. I can get my time to get to my alarms all right, so I did install geek bench. Let's run the geek bench real, quick, all right, so we have the note 10 plus versus it's not listed as of obviously it's 620, so we're going to run a benchmark on both of them.

So you can see its running faster, and I don't know this for sure, but in my brain that means this is a more powerful phone if it runs through this faster, because why test other phones, smaller high-end phones, not smaller, but uh, lower, performing phones like the lg style of six uh. It sucked ass on this test and the note crushes it normally and now. The note 20, of course, is going to crush it more than this. No second, here we started even and now the note 20 is pulling away from the 10 plus pretty quickly there. You go see that finished a good 10 percent before, and I think I might.

I don't know why I started first, but either way it's pretty good. We'll compare these scores to the note which should be uh. You know largely above any other device. Certainly in my personal devices, the note 10 has always scored the best, but I mean obviously it's a year newer phone a year to a processor. You would expect as much plus it's brand-new fresh out the box, and this one is loaded down with way more apps and other than this one is pretty substantial difference.

I don't uh pretend like. I know what all this means, there's that would compare to OnePlus devices, or you know, say mine scoring better than the average for the single core. Furthermore, I had the OnePlus 7 pro. Furthermore, I would much rather have the note 10 plus than the OnePlus 7 pro. Furthermore, I have not tried the 17th multi-core they're, also saying it's really crushing that one and then my note 10 is a little better than that one, this uh it doesn't work on this one.

That's pretty neat, I don't think it would, but it does not uh. Now. Let me take this one off of Wi-Fi, so this one's on LTE now, let's run a speed test all right. So this is the note 10 on T-Mobile's LTE, I'm in Louisville Kentucky it was a low score, so I have fast installed. So while it says there's something annoyingly hit this button, it takes you right to Bixby.

If you hold it down, it takes you to Bixby uh. You can change that up here, yeah, so you just drag it down to the top hit the power button here and then change the side. Key settings. You can change the side, key double pressed to be a launch camera and then change it to here to power off menu. So now, when I hit the button, if I hold it, it'll take me to the power off menu so 77 on fast and 78 on uh Okla.

So let me turn this one off. So, while the note 20 did come with his own sim card, my numbers are repaired to this one. I can just pop it out and then pop it into the note 20, and then I should, you know. My phone number will just work like that without me having to call T-Mobile activating the new sim card and all that now the note is not 5g and the note 10 is not 5g and this one. So you do get the dual guy here right, which is pretty good, so you could have a micro SD card or a sim and a sim card both the same time in here this one does get fingerprints.

I think the gray and bronze one don't potentially, but this one does. I have asked T-Mobile in the past, and they said it didn't matter. If you swap the old sim or not like, I don't need to use the new sim to get the actual 5g speeds. I've had some comments in one of my videos say that you do need to get the new card, but I don't know if they know they're talking about or whatever either way we'll do this test now later on. I will switch it to the new sim card, and I'll make a separate video doing a lot more 5g test, all right.

So now we're on, so it says 5g up here, let's run fast first getting about the same speed, which is fine, I mean that's good speed, it's not a bad speed by any means. It's not again. This is T-Mobile, and I'm in the basement of my house, not a bad speed. Let's not like blow you out. The water speeds like you would expect with 5g.

That's not always how the 5g works, certainly for T-Mobile all right. So let's just run a test on the speed test. App still says 5g here, and it does save 5g here uh, even though it's a 5g phone like with my lg v60 or other phones, sometimes it if it tests on LTE, it won't show the 5g icon here. This will still show 5g, which is kind of shady, but like here we'll show it won't show 5g, sometimes so in my house looks like I'm getting no discernible difference from the 5g signal versus the 4g signal, maybe even a worse test on the 5g signal. I have faith that when I, whenever the world is normal, and I can travel again, I will see better speeds better in building penetration.

Thanks to this 5g signal, because I've tried that on other 5g phones, I, like the 5g note 10, plus that I had temporarily and the 4g of the 5g lgb60, I'm testing on and my son's 5g a71. So again, these aren't bad speeds at all. It's not uh! You know 300 or 400 speeds, but you're not going to have any trouble with that speed but like for me, mobile speeds really come into play. You know I normally have a travel businessman. So when I travel these speeds are what I need in the hotel.

I usually put my phone my hot spot on, and I might all work off my laptop on these hot spots. So I need good speeds and that's crushing any hotel speeds I'm going to go to all right so that wraps it up. I think for now I'll have plenty more videos. I'm going to make I'll make a video just doing multiple 5g tests, I'll try to go around the city and test a couple different locations. Furthermore, I have a video testing.

My watch I'll make a video going over all these cases so tune back in we'll get set up thanks for checking me out subscribe, check me out and all that good stuff right. I also make a video on Samsung DEX, we'll make a video on uh, GeForce, now and Stadia on here and just straight up android gaming, because this phone can still get Fortnite, we'll put port down here, and we'll run a test on that all right, thanks! You.
