Samsung Galaxy A31 Review | Midrange All-Rounder! [English Subtitles]

Hello and welcome to ReviewsPK! My name is Ameer and this is our review of Samsung Galaxy A31. This phone has been launched in the Pakistani market a few weeks ago. Its retail price is Rs.42,000/ But if you want to buy it cheaper, then I will leave a link in the description below, do check that out! Right now, the competition is very tough at Rs.42k price point. Redmi, Realme, Oppo, Huawei. Everyone is in the battle field right now, and they all have amazing products. But this phone has some qualities.

Its takeaway features are an excellent display, about which, we will talk later in the video. Along with it, a Quad camera setup and a big battery. I used this phone for a few days, and honestly I liked this phone. I will talk about that later in the video as well. I would like to start the review with the spec sheet of this phone.

With Galaxy A31, you get MediaTek Helio P65 chipset, Mali G52 GPU, 128GB eMMC 5.1 storage, 4GB RAM, Full dual SIM, meaning a dedicated SD card slot 5,000 mAh big battery + Fast Charging, and this phone's biggest selling point, its 6.4 inches Super AMOLED Display. The resolution of the display is Full HD+, meaning 1080 x 2400. And you get 411 ppi pixel density Which is absolutely perfect, in my view. One reason for this is, that 411 ppi gives excellent clarity. Most of the competitors in this price range, offer IPS LCD panels.

There, a Super AMOLED panel with a Samsung brand name, is a huge plus point. AMOLED panels are considered superior to IPS LCD panels, because you get more punchy colours and deeper blacks in them. So when this panel shows you black, then, it is considered as 'true black' Because of which AMOLED panels have a better contrast. And this is the reason that in flagship phones right now you always see an AMOLED panel. There is no hole punch cutout in the display here, and there is also a dewdrop notch.

It would have been awesome if they had given a hole-punch cutout here, it would've given this phone a fresh and trendy feeling. An Optical fingerprint sensor is also given in the display. And if we talk about its speed, then it seemed a little slow to me but its reliability is fine. It takes a moment, but recognizes the fingerprint almost every time. And I had some minor issues with this fingerprint sensor at the beginning, but when I fed the same thumb twice on it then those issues were resolved.

Lets talk about build quality and materials. We have a polycarbonate body here. Basically the back and frame is of plastic. And if we look at the front side, then there is Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Now phones with a Gorilla Glass 5 back are also available in this price range.

Therefore, for the brand name of Samsung, you would have to sacrifice glass and metal like premium materials. And note one more thing over here, that no pre applied screen protector comes here. So you have to buy it yourself from the market. In this prism crush blue colour, the same multicolour prism like pattern is visible that we have seen in other Samsung phones before. I personally, like this effect best in white colour.

Now if we talk about another plus point of Galaxy A31, then it is its interface. The phone comes with Android 10, out of the box. And Samsung's own OneUI 2.1 is given over it. One plus point of it is that Samsung has refined this interface very much with time and experience. And it is also optimized for a single handed use.

But the biggest plus point of this interface is that this whole software experience is almost same we get in Samsung's top of the line Flagship phones. So its development is also done as a premium Flagship device. But you, as a consumer, are getting this interface in a mid range price segment. And this thing, according to me, is a plus point of Samsung phones. Like that, in other features as well, in Samsung's mid range phones.

we get the benefits of its premium phones' R&D, experience, and design philosophy. Like the camera of this phone. For their computational photography and the software processing of their camera for their premium and Flagship phones, Samsung has done a lot of investments in the form of R&D. And you see its results in their camera game as well. The 48MP main sensor of Galaxy A31, takes top notch pictures for this price range.

The colour reproduction is quite accurate. The colours in the images are punchy and I didn't feel any issues in the dynamic range either. One reason for this is the HDR present in this phone. Due to the f/2.0 aperture of the main camera, this camera requires slightly more light. But overall, in the mid range phones, the camera of Galaxy A31 is easily one of the best.

Samsung GM2 sensor is given in the main camera of this phone. And this is the same sensor, which we had seen in Redmi Note 9s before. But both, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Realme 6 has Samsung GW1 sensor, which is a 64MP sensor. But in my view, the computational photography of Samsung or the image processing algorithms, are superior to both, Realme and Redmi. Where, at one side you are sacrificing a few Megapixels, you are getting a better software there.

If we talk about the Ultra wide camera, then as usual, you can feel a low megapixel count of 8MP, due to the softness of the images. If we move towards the selfies now, then here as well, you will get a decent performance with a 20MP selfie shooter. Punchy colours and a decent dynamic range. If we talk about the video recording, then the maximum video recording resolution of front and back cameras is given as 1080p at 30 frames per second. But there is no Electronic Image Stabilization in this phone.

Therefore, when you will record a video with it, then you will require some stabilization, like a tripod. But if you will make videos with this phone on a tripod, then the video quality seemed quite decent to me. So lets talk about the performance of this phone now. So if you take a look at the Benchmark results of Galaxy A31, then you can see that its not a high performance phone at all. In fact, Helio P65 is one of the lowest performing chipset in this price range.

And because of this, in this price range, if you need a phone with high performance, specially if you need phone for gaming, then I will not recommend you to buy Galaxy A31. This phone, is made for an average user more. Meaning, an every day kind of user with social media apps, or who consumes a lot of videos on their phone, YouTube, Netflix, Social Media, and other things like that. Or if you need a phone for Office working. Then there, Helio P65 would run great for you.

It will easily handle your daily usage apps. And along with that, MediaTek Helio P65 is considered a power efficient processor. Where we are talking about power, lets talk about battery there too. The 5,000 mAh battery of the phone, will give you an excellent battery life. It will take some time to charge, because a 15W fast charging is not much fast.

It will almost take 2.5 hours to get from empty to full charged. But once this phone is charged, then the battery life seemed excellent to me. It will give you a day easily. It might give 1.5 to 2 days as well to most of the people. If the usage is very light, it might give you more than 2 days too.

But, 1 to 1.5 day is no issue for this phone. The primary reason for that is there is an AMOLED panel in this phone. If you activate Dark Mode on it, then the battery will be conserved. Along with that, Helio P65 is an efficient processor, and a 5,000 mAh battery is considered a big battery. So according to me, Galaxy A31 seemed a decent product for Rs 42,000/- price point.

The reason for that is a best in class display is given in it. Along with it, a big battery is given and a very capable camera is given as well. Yes, this phone's chipset and RAM configuration is not made for the power users. But this phone will easily handle your daily usage apps as well as it will handle casual gaming too. So on that basis, in my view, this phone has filled most of the boxes.

And along with all those things, there is Samsung's brand name on this phone. A lot of you guys often comment "What has Samsung done?" "What kind of phone they had made!" But it is important to understand this thing that a brand has a value too. The bigger the brand is, you would have to pay for their premium too and for that reason, the price of that phone would be more. So I think, the brand name of Samsung along with all those features is a good option. What are your thoughts on Galaxy A31? Do let me know in the comment section below That is all for this video.

I hope you liked the video. I will meet you in the next video. Goodbye! Hello? Greetings to you too, Ali Bhai. How are you? (distant chattering) Yeah, I was just recording the video. Do you have anything important?.
