REDMI NOTE 8 vs NOTE 8 2021: nada MUDOU DEPOIS de DOIS ANOS? | Comparativo

Subtitled by Paulo Montenegro - @pmontenegroreal (Twitter) The Redmi Note 8 2021 was released as an updated version of the model two years ago but has it changed much from the original phone? TudoCelular placed the two devices side by side to find out the answer. If you put them both in your hand you may not know which is which – we have identical devices in look and construction. The body follows with plastic sides and glass back with Gorilla Glass protection. This shows that the old casing was reused in its entirety for the newer model. The 2021 device has exactly the same dimensions and weight as its 2019 predecessor. Even the biometric reader has not been modernized and remains in the back cover like the old cell phone.

The main cameras remain in a vertical block in the left corner while the front one does not come out of the notch in a drop shape. But not everything is so the same - connectivity has been updated and now Bluetooth has gone from version 4.2 to 5.2 this ensures more stability and speed when connecting your wireless accessories. The SIM tray did not fail to provide two slots for phone lines and a separate one for memory expansion. Even identical, the updated Bluetooth gives the point for the Note 8 2021. Even the screen was reused in the latest edition of Redmi Note 8.

The panel had no change in the IPS LCD material nor in the size of 6.3 inches. The refresh rate was also in the 60 Hz you already knew, which might disappoint the gamer audience. At the very least, both provide a good level of contrast and satisfactory brightness for use in sunny places but don't expect a display with quality equivalent to current generation cell phones, even in the 2021 edition. The front-end use is also exactly the same. No changes, we have a draw on screen.

Apparently, Xiaomi didn't want to evolve the Note 8 2021 in any of the multimedia aspects, so much so that the sound remains non-stereo since it's just a speaker used in the duo. Even mono, you won't be disappointed with the sonic power of both here. The audio is also well balanced between bass, mids and treble, which alleviates the lack of a secondary channel. Neither comes with a headset in the box but both have the physical connector for connecting an external accessory. This can improve the sound experience if you are more demanding.

Again, the devices tie. To create an updated version of an old phone the least thing to do is to put a newer Android and this Xiaomi didn't disappoint. While the old Note 8 still came with the 9 Pie version of Google's system, the 2021 model already has Android 11 under the MIUI 12.5 interface. As the first one only got one system update, you'll have a more up-to-date smartphone since it comes out of the box with the latest one. The features are compatible with what you find in each generation of Xiaomi system but the 2019 one may have some issues with memory management.

The 2021 model scores one more point. If everything looked the same so far, we had a big change in performance. The Chinese decided to exchange the Snapdragon 665 for the Helio G85. In the benchmarks they even turned out to be very similar but the scenario changes completely in our performance test. The 2021 Redmi Note 8 took an additional 40 seconds to complete the steps compared to the older model.

This was mainly due to the slower multitasking of the recent cell phone. At least both proved good for games and can run all titles without problems. The Note 8 from 2019 scores the point here. If in performance the hardware change didn't much, but the choice for MediaTek seems right. The new generation device gained more than 3 additional hours of autonomy and now passes the total 21 hours, as shown by our standardized tests.

Also new was the charger – the same 4,000 mAh of the newest device charges in less than 2 hours, thanks to the 22.5 Watt dd adapter. The older accessory has a power of 10 Watts, so it takes almost half an hour to get out of the socket. Battery is a quiet spot for the 2021 Note 8. The recent Redmi photo set comes with the same 4 cameras as the older one. The main one has 48 MP and hits more in post-processing in the 2019 cell phone, because of Qualcomm's chipset.

The newest lacks in sharpness and requires images at full resolution to reduce losses. Ultrawide suffers more at night in the 2021 model, but it wasn't her strong point since 2 years ago. Macro remains limited from one generation to the next with low resolution and lack of auto focus. The blur lens does not disappoint and satisfactorily hits the cutouts on the two smartphones. It's another point for the original Note 8.

Like the photos, the videos were also worse in the remastered version of the Redmi Note 8. Now the device has lost the ability to shoot in 4K, as it was in the past. At least there were no cuts in the electronic stabilization, which reduces shakes well, nor in the agile focus present in the pair. It's another point for the old Note 8. In the front camera the same sensor present in the original Redmi is also found in the Note 8 2021.

In practice, the current selfies have the same quality as before without major problems in MediaTek's post-processing. The richness of details only goes down at night, but it's no different from what we've known since 2019 The selfies item ends in a draw. The Redmi Note 8 from the past officially arrived in Brazil in partnership between Xiaomi and DL. Today it can be found at a suggested price of R$1,700, but at retail it is already in the range of R$1,100. It is the same value that appears in the 2021 version of the model, even before being released by the manufacturer in the country.

With the two at the same cost, it ends up being more business to get the recent cell phone as it will have a support for the system for a longer time. The last point goes to the Note 8 of the current generation. The very close score demonstrates how we don't have big differences between the original Redmi Note 8 with its remastered version. Another example of the lack of evolution was in the number of draws. There were three items that ended without a winner.

Overall, the 2019 model still manages to outperform the rear cameras. The benefits of having a Qualcomm chip were evident in the comparison. On the other hand, the 2021 is more battery-friendly and has improved Bluetooth connectivity not to mention the newest system for longer longevity. We are wrapping up another comparison with a difficult decision on the scoreboard, but now we want to hear your opinion. Do you also think that the evolutions were discreet or do you believe in a great advance in the two years of difference between the two phones?
