How's it going everyone. My name is RJ, and I've been using the m1 11-inch iPad Pro for over 72 hours now, and I have some initial thoughts primarily in this video. I want to focus on the power of the m1 chipset, how I've been using the iPad over the span of 72 hours. And finally, I want to discuss a bit about if upgrading from the 2018 12.9-inch iPad Pro to the 11-inch m1 iPad Pro was a worthwhile upgrade. You know what I hate. I absolutely hate falling victim to the yearly upgrade cycle.
If I wasn't a tech YouTuber, there is no way. I would be willing to drop this kind of money for these minor yearly upgrades that quite honestly, we can't even take advantage of yet that all depends on what apple decides to give us with iPadOS 15. One of my primary goals as this channel grows, is to help you guys save some money. I've seen far too many channels push products to their audience, simply because it's new, I will never do that unless it's a product that I truly do believe in. We all work hard for our money and, if you already own a tech product, in this case, an iPad Pro there's no real need to upgrade every single year.
Of course, a valid argument can be made if you do own a 2017 iPad Pro or older, then upgrading to the new 2021 iPad Pro is quite the significant upgrade, but before we do continue, if you want to see more content on the 11 inch, m1 iPad Pro, then of course consider subscribing to the channel and leave a like on this video to help push my content to a larger audience. I have a valuable comparison. Video coming up in the next few days between the m1 11a iPad Pro and the new iPad Air 4, so make sure you tune in for that one. So about a week ago, I conducted a poll and asked you guys if you are content with the current design of the iPad Pro and an overwhelming 74 percent of you voted that you are content, and you know what I have to agree. The design language of the current iPad Pro is so futuristic.
It literally looks like a tablet straight out of west world the 11-inch iPad Pro has a screen to body ratio of 83. I would have loved to see apple bump up that ratio to around 88. I think that would have given the iPad Pro quite the design overhaul without changing the overall form factor, but for now I really can't complain. Furthermore, I do dig this design. Apart from the screen to body ratio, the design language of the iPad Pro is truly undefeated.
It's hard to fathom, but within this tiny form factor is a powerhouse of a tablet funny enough, I'm actually starting to fall in love with the 11-inch iPad. When I initially purchased my 2018 iPad Pro, I thought that I had to go with a bigger tablet because of my use case, I was going to use my iPad Pro as my primary go to computer and figure that everything would be just much better on a bigger panel. But after having used the 11-inch iPad Pro for three days now, I honestly do not miss my bigger iPad. This, in my opinion, is the perfect hybrid size for a tablet. I can easily detach it from the magic keyboard go lay in my bed and watch an entire 10-minute YouTube video simply by holding the 11 inch in my hands.
If I were to do this with my 12.9-inch iPad Pro after about 2 minutes, I would have to put it down simply because hand. Fatigue starts to kick in, and it becomes far too uncomfortable. The 11-inch iPad Pro only weighs 1.03 pounds, which is about 74 percent, lighter than my 12.9-inch iPad Pro. So portability is terrific, with the 11 inch with the 11-inch iPad Pro. I can easily slide this into my backpack without the feeling of any additional weight.
However, I am a big guy, I'm about six feet tall, and I weigh around 200 pounds. So when I use the 11-inch iPad in combination with the magic keyboard, I do feel rather uncomfortable typing for long durations. The magic keyboard is much smaller. On the 11 inch, I find myself making more mistakes while I'm typing- and I do feel like I'm enclosed in this tiny little box, just some food for thought. For you guys, if you are contemplating between the 11 inch or the 12.9, inch iPad Pro apart from that, though, from now on, I am definitely an 11-inch iPad Pro kind of guy, I feel like this tablet is just better suited for my use case, which entails a lot of media consumption, editing, photos playing, games and jotting down notes. Most of this usually happens in the comfort of my own bed, so I've been really enjoying using a lighter, more portable tablet.
Let's talk about the m1 chipset for a second over the past three days, I've been really trying to push this iPad to its limits, and I can't think of a better way currently to push the m1 iPad Pro than by doing some gaming. So I've been playing a lot of League of Legends wild rift on this iPad, and this is one of my favorite games for mobile, and it is also now available on iPadOS. Unfortunately, there is no controller support for this game, but it's been easy to play on the 11-inch form factor now. This is a very graphic, intense game. I play this game on flagship android devices like the OnePlus 9 pro and the s21 ultra.
If you try to run wild rift at the highest of settings on 120hz, the phone will eventually start to overheat, which does play a role in battery degradation. I have also noticed some stuttering and some frame drop issues, but on the m1 iPad Pro running this game on the highest of settings runs flawlessly. It's just so smooth. Currently, I'm running this game at 120, fps, graphics are set to ultra and both the effects, quality and the resolution are set to high, as you guys can see. For yourself, everything is just running like butter, the graphics look awesome and that 120 hertz frames per second is putting in some work.
Really helping me not miss those, oh so critical skill shots. What's even more impressive is that after a couple of hours of gaming, the iPad Pro doesn't even get remotely hot. That is just mind-boggling. For me, I mean just think about it. In such a thin and narrow form factor apple somehow found a way to deal with heat dissipation, so the iPad Pro doesn't overheat.
Even when pushed by some graphic intense games such as war drift, I have to mention these speakers. Man apple, somehow always finds a way to improve upon their speakers. Take a listen to this comparison between the m1 speakers and the 12.9-inch 2018 iPad Pro speakers, and you guys tell me which one sounds better in the comments below I've also tried editing some 4k 60 fps footage, while on suffusion and just check out how smooth it is to scrub through this 4k timeline, the iPad can fly and scrubbing through. This 4k timeline is something that my intel i9 16 inches maxed out. MacBook Pro struggles with on the daily the m1 chipset is truly impressive, but I wouldn't call suffusion a pro editing application.
I'm really curious to see what apple does with iPadOS 15, which is about one week away. If apple gives us pro applications and unleashes the true power of the m1 with iPadOS 15, then this may actually be a worthwhile upgrade, especially for users who want to use the iPad as their primary computer without any limitations. So, to summarize my thoughts, the m1 iPad Pro has been great. So far, I've been really enjoying the performance, even though we can't fully take advantage of it. Yet what's funny is.
I was initially supposed to get the 12.9-inch m1 iPad Pro to test out that Dr display, but those sold out like hot cakes, and I was only left with the 11-inch m1 since then I have truly fallen in love with the 11-inch form factor. I truly believe this is the perfect size for a tablet. It doesn't sacrifice my productivity all while maintaining the portability of a tablet. If you were unsure on which size to get give the 11-inch iPad Pro a shot, you may actually fall in love with it. Like I have, the title of this video is asking: was I wrong to upgrade? Well, quite honestly, I don't know yet that all depends on what apple decides to do with iPadOS 15.
, but for now, for the time being, if I were you, I would hold that from upgrading. Remember apple makes future-proof products, and they support their older devices for many years to come. As long as you have software support on your iPad and the performance hasn't dwindled, then you are better off saving your money. I will be covering a lot more of this iPad, all this month, so make sure to subscribe to the channel if you made it till the end of this video. Thank you so much for watching all the way till the end.
It really does mean a lot to me and, as always, don't forget to flex with your tech.
