Meizu 16s unboxing & first impressions

Hi Henry here from tech advisor and another unboxing today of the maze 16s, it's only just come out, it's a Chinese phone, so was competing in its home country with the likes of Vito, OPPO and Huawei, but can't buy over here at the moment, but on import at around 450 dollars or pounds. It could be a good choice, considering the specs, unlike fellow Chinese company Xiaomi, as well, which is just released in the UK. Officially maze is still pretty much an Eastern only company, that isn't to say it should be ignored. We've been kindly sent these 16's for review from Maisie and I hope, I'm pronouncing it correctly. Sorry, this is the box, it's black. It has specs on the back, and we find out that this is a fair flagship level phone.

So my Z fans that we've reviewed in the past have tended to be more mid-range good value, though particularly when you import them. This phone, however, has a cool, calm, snapdragon 855, so it's the same as the US variant of the galaxy s 10 the OnePlus 7 pro Xperia 1. All the new phones coming out on Android, which of the high-end this undercuts them by price but has the same specs. There is a 48 megapixel, an eye, jewel camera, which is pretty much all the sort of fatty things you can say about a camera in 2019 put into one, but let's not knock it till we've tried it NFC as well, which is actually remarkable on a Chinese phone, sometimes seeing as it's not as prevalent a technology in the East, and you also have an optical in screen fingerprint sensor to round up the snazzy new tech inside we've got a model with six gigs of ram 128 gigs of storage. So let me struggle to open it, and we'll see where you get inside okay.

So let's have a look plain map box, not much to write home about, but nice enough 16s on the front. There are other 16 phones as one that's called sixteenth, which has a TH which is kind of odd night Lie. What that stands for. Maybe that's a mistranslation on my part, and there is a sixteen as well. This is the BS model never been opened.

See, let's have a look at the fine there. It is. We have a white version, which is handy, as you can see there, that we have a camera nestled in that thin top bezel there. So if this phone I suppose is kind of similar in appearance to the galaxy is and s9, if you're familiar with those phones, because you have virtually no bezels but a camera in there, so no notch, no cutout, no under display camera yet to come, but ya know not cheese, no pop-ups- this is just a solid phone here. So we'll have a look at that in a moment, see what's inside, so you've got no sim tool which is falling out there.

Chinese plug see what else you get USB, cable, yep, don't get a case in here. Unfortunately, lots of little booklets that you probably never read it so no case in there. You just get the charger no headphones either. So it's all about the phone. Really, let's have a look.

Let's take this back plastic off now you see just get rid of all of this I. Think those glass. Don't quote me on that! Sorry. Everyone, I'm pretty sure, that's glass, but at this price is unlikely to have wireless charging very simple design on the back with the dual cameras up there, quite a nice feel it's smaller than I thought it would be as well. We've got I think 6.2-inch screen here, but even with my small hands that is quite manageable, and also we see here, the front cover which I can peel off is showing us where the in screen fingerprint sensor is Stingray. This is actually in English to get a complete fingerprint recognition function.

Peel the plastic film off. Well, I wasn't going to keep it on because you cannot see through it so silver rim. On this white version it looks basically like an iPhone 10. Doesn't if it's got the dual cameras there and that white and silver finish is one that was made popular, shall we say by Apple, but a lot of Chinese companies and non-Chinese companies to be fair, pretty shameless in how they ate an Apple device, but I cost half as much. So, let's not complain.

So, as we can see on the screen here, fly me: I presume, that's not pronounced flying fly me is the Android overlay. So on the moi 16 s, you do get Android 9 pie, but with its own skin, and luckily I'm not going to have to fight my way through a Chinese setup. It does give me the option there when you turn it on to go in English. Let's just go through here in case you hadn't guessed from my accent. We are in the UK, also good to see some of the Chinese phones we get sent.

Don't have Google services on them already, but it watches like my TV can I enough to send me one that does have Play services, so we're all good. So I'm just going to punch my information in here, and then we can have a look at what's on the phone. Ok, so I've gone through the Google stuff, and then you have you're flying by me. I presume flying the ID a bit like how you would log in with a Samsung phone or Huawei phone SE, you can opt to log into Macy's own cloud. Storage function I'm probably going to skip that for now, but it's the option is there if you want to, and as we've become accustomed to enrolling the fingerprint, let's do a very insecure password there and then yeah.

As you probably aware, you can now have a screen fingerprint sensor, which you just tap on in the area where it C shows you, so you register that they have got better. This is enrolling it firing it with have to see whether it actually unlocks the phone quickly. Some of them aren't great and is not necessarily better than having just a normal one. On the back or down the bottom. There.

Okay, it's gonna, try and make me install all these apps that I don't want, so I'm going to skip that. If it lets me press the skip burn there, we go, so this looks quite like if you're familiar more with Xiaomi phones. This does look quite a lot like Xiaomi in the look and feel of the UI, although they are different, we do have as I say, Google services on here. So if you import the correct version, you do actually have Android the Google's Android messages. App thought in there, which is great personally I, would use that anyway, and then we also have the whole suite of Google apps there as well pre-installed.

So, provided you get the correct one, we will put the correct model name in the description of the video, so you can check it out. You're going to be fine. You have USB see on the bottom there, unfortunately, no headphone, jack and I will check actually, because that is a shame if it doesn't have a dongle in the box, so you got the USB cable there and over yeah. So it seems our here. We have a no headphone jack phone with no dongle, so you're, probably going to have to want or already own Bluetooth headphones.

If you get this something to bear in mind, otherwise you overlay solve it's definitely manageable, but it's quite a changed Android version compared to something like OnePlus in this country or even like a Nokia phone which has fairly stock Android. This is going to be one that you will probably have to a little. You see, but this is actually quite a nice slim slick device. As we said earlier, six gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage. Is it expandable, let's find out with your SIM tray on the bottom.

There be really careful as oh I hate when they do this right. You got two dots. There do not poke the sim tool into your microphone you'll destroy it. Definitely yeah get that in the right. One I've done that before it's the worst so sim one Oh can't even hold on to it sim ?, so yeah.

This is jewel sim, which is nice to see one of the best things about Chinese phones or at least watch Chinese phones have encouraged. Western phones to do is put your sim in there, but what we have here for the wood, the 16s, is a good Chinese import option for you with dual cameras: eight five, five as well, so you're, going to undercut even the one plus seven pro now is over six hundred pounds in the UK. So if you want snapdragon 855 phones with Google services, a perfect price, then the made 16 s looks like it's worth a look thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next one. You.
