M1 iPad Pro Review - Unboxing and First Impressions

Since, the very first iPad Pro release back in november 2015. I have always been a believer in the iPad tablets becoming a laptop replacement. It just took a lot longer than I had initially thought now we are here in 2021, and I think finally, the new m1 iPad Pro 12.9 inch could be exactly what I have dreamt about all of this time since the introduction of Apple Silicon and the new m1 chips, I truly believe apple's latest devices due to the power, efficiency and performance are truly revolutionary. I had turned my back on apple in the recent years. I was getting tired of the poor price to performance and the same old design coming out of the MacBook pros, every single device being the same as the last one, but their latest stuff has got me pretty excited about the future. So what is new with the m1 iPad Pro inside the 2021 iPad Pro? We now have a desktop processor, the m1 chip.

This is the exact same processor that is found inside of apple's latest MacBook Air MacBook, pro m1 Mac mini and also the new m1 iMac, which I will be reviewing here on this channel, so make sure you like and subscribe for my videos when it finally arrives. The 8 core CPU of m1 delivers up to 50, faster performance and m1 has an 8 core GPU, providing up to 40, faster graphics performance over the last generation of iPads. We now have the addition of 5g to the cellular models of the iPad Pro, which is the model that I currently own. I bought the Wi-Fi plus cellular to give me the most versatility in use cases. The new iPad Pro now has the same screen that is found inside the pro display, Dr monitor, which is a five grand monitor that apple sells on their website.

So what I hope to achieve is when I finally receive my new m1 iMac. I want to use that, as my main video editing, computer and then by using the sidecar feature on Apple devices, I'll be able to use my iPad as a secondary, monitor. To give me crazy accuracy when doing all of my color grading, so what do you get inside the box? Well, I purchased the 12.9-inch m1 iPad Pro with 256 gigabytes of internal storage and also the 5g compatibility. This model that I own has got 8 gigabytes of ram, which is the same as my m1 Mac mini desktop, which is just unbelievable if you purchase the one terabyte or two terabytes m1 iPad Pro, this will come with 16 gigabytes of ram. But if you need that much ram inside your iPad, you must be seriously an absolute legend.

So let me know in the comment section down below what you actually require that much ram for inside a tablet. Inside the box, you get a 20 watt, USB power adapter, along with an USB charging cable, and I'm glad to see these accessories are still included, unlike with the newer iPhones. Obviously, if you buy a new iPhone, they no longer come with a charger. You also get some stickers a setup guide and if you have the 5g cellular model, you also get a pin allowing you to add a sim card. Now I don't know about yourself, but for me, I have never.

Once in my life used apple stickers that are provided with any of the products that I have purchased, I'm surprised apples still include them, considering how eco-friendly they are, as a company constantly recycling things and talking about that in their marketing, I'm really shocked that they still provide the stickers because I've never used them once, and I can't be the only person that never uses them. There's a new flagship feature on the m1 iPad Pro and that is center stage. So, on this generation of iPad there is a new selfie camera, that's 12 megapixels and has a huge, very wide viewing angle of 122 degrees. Now center stage allows you to use popular apps like FaceTime and zoom, for doing your video conferences, and it allows you to walk around your room and your iPad will track you now. My iPad is stationary on my desk.

It's not moving, but the super wide viewing angle of the selfie camera is tracking me perfectly fine. So this is perfect. If you're, maybe doing a keynote presentation, you've got a whiteboard you're in a conference room. You can do your presentation as if someone sat at the desk watching you walk around the room. It gives you a much more natural presentation style without you having to sit stationary at your desk and have a very fixed camera angle, keeps things dynamic, exciting and, as you can see, the tracking works exceptionally.

Well, I'm in a very dark room right now the lighting isn't too strong, and it's still tracking me even very, very far away, although both of the cameras have been improved on this iPad, the rear facing camera and also the selfie facing camera. I still am not too happy with the placement of the selfie camera, and this has been an issue with the iPad since the first generation. The problem with the iPad is the selfie. Camera is located to the left-hand side. If you have it in landscape like this, and you're, using it in laptop fashion, which you're probably going to do with this one, so that means, if you're doing a conference call or FaceTime when you're actually looking at the iPad and at the person that you're talking to because the camera is so far to the left-hand side.

It looks like you're not looking at them at all, whereas if it was at least located in the center up here, you will be looking at the center of your screen, and it would still look like you're at least kind of looking at the person you're talking to. I have no idea why Apple haven't moved that, because it kind of looks really silly when you're talking to the camera, the liquid retina Dr display, looks stunning and has excellent brightness, with one million to one contrast: ratio along with a thousand nits of full screen, brightness and 1 600 nits of peak brightness with HDR content. This makes it ideal for any task you throw at it from photo, editing, graphics, design or just simply watching, Netflix or Disney plus. To achieve this high brightness level. There are 10 000 mini LEDs in this 13 inch display achieving 2, 500 local dimming zones, allowing for more detail to be showcased between the dark and highlights in an image.

This mini led technology works very similar to OLED. Now I've been using an OLED TV for maybe the past six seven, eight months so far, and I've been really impressed by OLED, but with mini led you get the same performance benefits of having you know, one thousand to one contrast: ratio like infinite black levels, but you don't get the burning. Obviously a huge, down flow or negative of OLED is burning on the screen. If you have elements static for a long period of time, whereas with mini led, apparently burning, isn't so much of an issue. The biggest question surrounding the new m1 iPad Pro is: why on earth do we need all of this power at this moment in time? There are very few apps that require these specs and remember.

The m1 iPad is still running iPad, OS, which is fair to say quite limiting for more professional work situations. However, with WWDC just around the corner, I have a very good feeling that something special is going to happen with the iPad. I truly hope that all the leaks and rumors that I've seen so far become true, and we will see pro apps like Logic Pro x and Final Cut Pro finally come to the iPad, it's safe to say that I am blown away by my new iPad. What a huge and noticeable upgrade it is from my 2015 iPad Pro from the breathtaking display to the newest sleeker form factor with smaller bezels and face ID. It feels so good that I can now retire.

My all 2014 MacBook Pro, which is in such awful and barely usable condition and replace it with the m1 iPad. For my day-to-day computing needs, such as researching and planning YouTube videos, editing photos in adobe, Lightroom and so much more drop. This video a like if you enjoyed it, and please subscribe to my channel for my full long term, review on the m1 iPad Pro and so many other videos to come on this device along with the new m1 iMac. But as always, I've been Ben Rollins. Thank you.

So much for watching, and I'll see you in the next one.
