Google Pixel 2 Review: 1 Month Later By GadgetGuruHD
The Google Pixel 2 was released about one month ago and since then I’ve been using it as my daily driver for all four of those weeks. I’ve played games, tested the battery life, used the camera, and have a lot of data to help you all decide whether this is the phone for you. Starting off with the good - the battery life on the Pixel 2 has been very impressive. The pixel 2 has a 2700mAh battery, and I’m generally finishing my days with around 40-45% battery life and that’s with about three hours of on screen time. I have my gmail set to always refresh for emails, so this kind of battery life will be an enormous improvement for anyone with a Nexus 5X or Nexus 6. The camera on the Pixel 2 is awesome, especially when you’re looking to take quick pictures without adjusting the iso or other settings.
Additionally, I did a video showing off the Pixel 2’s IP67 water resistance feature where I recorded underwater video and used the phone in the pool. The phone’s been completely fine after that, which is a huge plus. The Pixel 2 is incredibly quick. Opening apps, playing games, watching videos, and general day to day usage is a pleasure. I’ve experience no lag whatsoever and the screen looks great throughout the process.
Just a quick disclaimer here, I did not use any cases with the Google Pixel 2 during the past month, but I did drop it on three separate occasions when it slipped out of my pocket onto hardwood floor from about three feet up. The few didn’t receive any dings or scratches during the falls whatsoever. You can see around the edges and the back, the phone looks completely brand new. However, you can see on the front that there are some light scratches forming. I did say, that I dropped the phone, but none of these scratches are due to drops.
I always make sure I have my keys in the pocket opposite of my phone, and I’ve been extra careful about the screen in general, so it’s a surprise to me that these light scratches are here in the first place. I don’t know that this problem is unique to the Pixel 2, but I only bring this as a precaution to anyone future or current Pixel 2 owners. If you do end up picking up the Pixel 2 and you want to prevent this problem altogether, a screen protector is always an option, and I’ll link one down in the description. One thing I’ve found quite frustrating is the lack of a headphone jack. I have a pair of JayBird X3 wireless ear buds which are great, but it’s still so inconvenient to not have the option to use wired earbuds.
Is the lack of a headphone jack a deal breaker for me? No, but it’s still something I’ll have to get used to, even after a month of usage. After one month, I’m am really enjoying the Google Pixel 2. It’s quick, it has great battery life, and an incredible camera. The lack of a headphone jack is frustrating, but it’s also far from a deal breaker.
