Battle of the Toughest Phones - Destruction Test

Everyone, a chili Marc Saltzman here at Ace part of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, located in Oshawa Ontario, just east of Toronto I'm here, because ace is one of the world's most sophisticated product testing facilities which features climatic wind tunnels like the one I'm in right now, a multi-axis shaker table or mast and other chambers that can replicate virtually any temperature climate and even violent vibrations on earth, from tropical downpours to freezing rain desert heat to earthquakes, all right before I freeze to death. Let's see how these smartphones stack up. We've got the Samsung Galaxy s5 active the Kyocera, aura force, the sonic xp1 and the cat V 15. Granted. Not all of these phones claim to offer the same level of durability. Let's have some fun and see how they stack up after they take a beating.

First up, we blasted the phones with cold blowing snow in the climatic wind tunnel. Temperatures were at a negative 20 degrees, Celsius or -4 Fahrenheit. Next up a water torture test to see if they can stand up to a standard commercial grade pressure, washer 20 seconds per phone, as you might have guessed, not all of them made it through this test successfully, and now it's time for the drop test, we launched the phones from a height of more than 20 feet. Don't try this at home, and then we entered the mask chamber, shake rattle and roll Wow. Now that's what I call a durability test and, as you can see, some phones haven't fared so well.

While we didn't blow away the phones, I wanted to strap myself into ASE's climatic wind tunnel seemed like fun and here's what someone looks like trying to brave hurricane level winds, not a pretty sight. Okay back to the phones and our day-long battery of tests was there a clear winner. The winner is San. The xp7 was able to withstand all the tests that we put it through today, and there were many super, super rugged phone completely works and with no broken screen, Samsung took a beating and did better than we thought, and it still works. But the screen is cracked, and the back cover flew off, as you can see no big deal, but it did better than we thought this is the Galaxy s5 active so kudos there, and then these two guys forget about it.

The Kira series aura force and the V 15 from Kat didn't do so well, as you can see completely obliterated with the tests that we've put it through today. A big thank you again to ace part of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology for allowing us to put all these so-called rugged phones to the test. I'm Marc Saltzman, thanks for watching.
