TCL 20 Pro 5G First Look: The Most Feature Complete?

Hey Mikey he likes it, TCL delivered. I mean some really fun. Phones over 2020, the 10 pro arrived at a tricky transition, though, as a premium feeling phone, it was feature-rich, but just before more mid-tier phones started getting that 5g. The TCL 10 5g arrived later in the year, but with a build more in line with the less expensive 10l than the nicer 10 pro well, we've cycled for 2021 and the tcl20 pro brings the nicer flagship, build quality, a more powerful chipset, 5g support and a more complete list of lifestyle features. TCL sent over a really well stocked, reviewer kit for me to test, drive the phone and share my thoughts, there are all kinds of stuff. In here sunscreen hand, sanitizer insect, repellent, insect bite, relief and after sun sprays.

This water bottle has a speaker in the lid back to the phone. Nearly every aspect of last year's phone has been tweaked or refined, and that starts with design the 20 pro recalls a combo of phones. I really like for build the OnePlus 8 and the lg velvet slightly squarer corners curved glass on the front and back and a side strip for the camera sensors. Yes, you should put your phone in a case and a bumper is included in the box, so no excuses there, but this is an aesthetic which should impress out of the box. TCL is a lifestyle.

Consumer tech, gadget brand and one of the things they're known for are TVs, so the screen here you would expect it to be nice, and it is nice. This is a vibrant OLED, though one of the few compromises, if we even want to call it that it doesn't have one of the faster refresh rates, 120 hertz, is the big fad that techies are getting real lit up about, but that most of the real average consumers. I show my phones to can't notice much of a difference, so we don't get 120 hertz 60 hertz should do you just fine now, maybe your app drawer isn't quite as liquid smooth, but at this performance tier we should be well served for a healthy chunk of mobile gaming. Given the focus of the label, it shouldn't be a surprise that TCL includes a number of screen customization options for juicing up your video and photo playback adapting to the surrounding light hdr10 certified, solid color accuracy, SDR to HDR conversion and something called true flesh tone which enhances lighting in the video without making human skin look weird, plus we get an IR blaster. So those of us who still have TV and entertainment kit that might need one our fully featured phone can also be a universal remote compared to where we were last year with the 10 pro.

The haptics here have a lighter, but more distinct feel there's a slightly tighter pop, which feels pretty good under your fingers, while you're typing, maybe my main complaint. The in-display fingerprint sensor is really finicky. I've trained both of my thumbs a couple of times, and it seems as if there's any wiggle or travel while scanning you know like how humans occasionally move, and they're. Not perfectly still, then it's probably gonna Bork that scan it's the main critique. I have overall with this phone and I hope it's something that can be refined a bit in a future update, but it's easy to get swept up in this hardware experiment how refreshing it is to get features to arrive at this price point compromising a little processing power and a faster screen means we get a headphone jack memory card expansion, the IR blaster, a decently quick charger in the box.

Wireless charging makes it to this phone, and, while TCL is saying this phone shouldn't be submerged in water, they did get it properly IP rated, and it should be decently rain and splash resistant rather than saving cash and just omitting the rating they are letting consumers know what the real IP rating is, which is way better than not knowing it's here in the mid-range, where our phones are most complete. There's a quad array of cameras on the back, and they're pretty good. The main shooter is a 48 megapixel sensor with optical image. Stabilization photos are still a bit social media, vibrant for my liking, but I think in general this is improved over the tcl10 from last year.4K, video from the main sensor ultra-wide and the selfie shooter, it kind of blows my mind how many premium phones won't match video quality on all the sensors on the phone, all right, switching gears talking about the software on tap very familiar territory for android, 11, very colorful, and with a few simple add-ons for additional controls like a side dock for shortcuts and other actions. That's what feels like classic TCL like the old school, Alcatel idols.

We also keep their programmable smart key. This has been a long tradition of TCL phones out of the box, long pressing, activates your assistant, and you get to pick the single and double press actions. Of course, there's a focus on multimedia features, one I love highlighting, which returns from last year, where users compare and simultaneously play audio on up to four Bluetooth devices connected to one phone, either multiple speakers or share playback with a friend on some Bluetooth, headphones, we're going to be traveling again soon, and if I want to watch a movie with my daughter on an airplane, we can sync up playback together. So this phone isn't cheap in a traditional budget sense but feature rich at a decent mid-ranger price. I'm happy to see TCL commit to at least two operating system updates and two years of security patching I'm hoping google play security updates can tackle some additional longer term support, but at least the commitment from TCL helps a phone like this feel a little less disposable.

The battery tech is solid, big capacity, lower powered chipset. It's easy running this for over a day with some room to spare even adding 5g into the mix. We don't pay much of a power penalty over the tcl10 pro recharge speeds are mid-pack. It took me a little less than 40 minutes to get a 50 charge. Of course, there are faster charging phones, but that's still pretty good.

A quick top off should get you plenty of time out in the field, and there is enough capacity where the idea of sharing some juice, with an accessory like some earbuds over a cable could make some sense. It's all the stuff. I liked about the 10 pro and what I like again here on the 20 pro. We can pick and choose features to focus on at different price points. TCL is showing a specific focus on their own branded phones in a lineup of lifestyle and entertainment, consumer tech, which is well refined year over year.

I love seeing more competition in this market and 4.99 is mid-pack pricing, but we're in perfect shape against other purpose-built mid-rangers, a 128 gigabyte, iPhone SE might be 50 dollars cheaper, but will lack cameras will have a poorer display. Smaller battery capacity won't have 5g, expandable storage, a headphone jack. That's a pretty broad hardware gap in that 50 price difference. TCL made some of my favorite classic mid-rangers back in the day with those Alcatel idols, and it's fun. Seeing some of that design.

DNA evolving for modern 5g phones too I'll, of course, leave some links down below for more info on the tcl20 pro, maybe shop. One of these bad boys online, as always, thanks.
