Apple iPhone 12 Review : More Like The Pro Than Ever Before

Hey guys, what's up, my name is Bharat you're watching Aidan, and today we're going to be reviewing the iPhone 12. So, let's quickly get started now apple launches a new phone every year. This time around, they also launched the iPhone SE, which makes their cheapest phone now available for around 30 000 rupees. However, the iPhone 12 series brings about considerable amounts of changes and the iPhone 12 and the 12 pro are what is going to be primarily what people are upgrading to if they've been using a previous generation iPhone now the iPhone 12 and 12 pro are closer than a non-pro phone and a pro phone have ever been before. As far as iPhones are concerned, with respect to hardware and with respect to the display, everything is closely matched so the iPhone 12 starts in India at around 79 900 rupees, and you can get higher variance as well. So if you want more storage, you can pick a higher variant, and they are available up to 256 gigabytes of storage.

If you do want more storage, then you will have to pick a pro variant and that goes up to 512 gigabytes. Now, with respect to design and build quality, the phones are identical to the pro series of phones, but the materials used are different, so the iPhone 12 is made out of aluminum, and it is still very rigid, and it is extremely well-made, as you would have seen, demonstrated in various bend tests and scratch tests. The phone on the front has something that apple calls: NATO ceramic glass or NATO ceramic shield where in which they have grown NATO ceramic crystals within the glass layer to make this tougher and more resilient, and that has shown in several tests that people have done. This also prevents your screen from heating up, and if you end up leaving your phone on your dashboard or in your car in the sun, the phone will not be burning up as it would previously. The good thing about the iPhone 12 now is the form factor and the shape of the phone it's more squared off the display is flatter, and hence the display looks nicer.

It's also more comfortable to hold in the hand, and if you want to you, can prop it up vertically as well. One notable difference with respect to the iPhone 12 is now that the iPhone 12 comes with an OLED display apple calls this the super retina Dr display- and this is basically the same display as the iPhone 12 Pro series. The only difference between the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro with respect to the display is that the max brightness is lower on the iPhone 12, and you get higher max brightness on the iPhone 12 Pro. The OLED displays make the experience of using the iPhone 12 much more improved, and if you were previously using an iPhone 11, this will be a big jump coming over to the OLED side of things. The good thing is that apple has also continued to include things like the MagSafe compatibility on all the iPhone 12 series of devices.

So if you buy an iPhone 12, you can get any of the mac safe accessories and the maxim accessories work in a very simple way. There are a bunch of magnets on the back of the iPhone that are put in a circular format, and then one is a fitting magnet. All you do is line up. Your magnetic accessory and then it sort of falls into place automatically apple has launched a bunch of magnetic accessories for their mac. Safe lineup, including a maxi wireless charger, a MagSafe wallet and mac safe covers for your iPhones that continue to extend the mac save capability.

So if you do have a mac safe cover, you can still install a mac, safe wallet accessory on the back of the iPhone, and this makes it work really. Well. Every time you install a mac safe accessory, you do get the animation on the screen, and it goes to the line where, in certain cases there is use of NFC. So if you pop on a Mac safe cover which is green, the animation is then green, if you pop on a clear case, you will get a clear animation and then hence for whatever color you put, you will get that animation, so that's cool and then, when you pop in a wireless charger, MagSafe accessory, then you do get the charging animation, and then you still get the mac save animation with it. So it gives you all of those features built in and that's thanks to the NFC capability that they've installed into their mac, safe accessories and then mac safe, has been opened up to third party accessories as well, and there are lots of other manufacturers who have already shown off some interesting maxi accessories, which will make the use of the iPhone a lot more versatile.

Another major advantage of the iPhone 12, at least not for India, however, is uh the addition of the 5g capabilities on the iPhones. Now the iPhones have the maximum amount of 5g bands that are capable on the device anywhere from any device that is available in the market. So if you do get an iPhone 12 today, you can pop in a 5g sim card whenever it is available and the iPhone will support it. If you travel with your iPhone, if you are doing that anytime soon, you can get the iPhone and pop in a 5g chip overseas and get 5g capability on your device instantly. It's already there on the device it's already unlocked, so it is the most 5g compatible device that you can buy in the market today.

Now a lot of people don't look at the iPhone for performance because they generally do outperform most of the phones in the same category, but the iPhone 12 also has the a14 bionic chip. Now this a14 bionic chip is uh revolutionary to the point where this is the first five nanometer process based chip in any device ever so with the five nanometer process on the iPhone's a14 bionic. What you're getting is improved performance and a lower power consumption and also lower heat. So not only is it delivering more power per the transistor, that's on this device, but also delivering uh less heat on the thermals and also consuming less power. So the same battery, that's in the iPhone will last much longer, but from a performance perspective, whether you're a pro gamer content, creator or even a business person.

You won't really feel the need for additional power. The iPhone 12, even though it has only four gigabytes of ram because of the optimizations of both the hardware and the software uh four gigabytes of ram, is actually quite a lot for the iPhone and in any task that you may want to run on the iPhone 12. You will find it sufficient with respect to performance with the power of the CPU, as well as the ram capability. That's in the device, along with the quick or the super, fast storage that is on the iPhone everything runs super smooth. This performance also translates to games.

So if you're, an avid gamer, the iPhone has always been a benchmark device for gaming, and it continues to be so with the iPhone 12, because there is not a lot of difference between the iPhone 12 and 12 pro gaming on the iPhone 12 is almost identical. Now the additional ram may come in handy if you do game a lot. So, if you are somebody who's, a pro gamer, you might want to pick up the six gigabyte variant, which is basically the pro iPhone 12. Another thing that is almost identical with respect to both these phones is the battery life. Also, the battery size is completely identical.

We're getting about five and a half hours of average screen on time with the iPhone 12, and that is with heavy usage that I do have in my everyday tasks. So what you are getting is pretty impressive battery capabilities, but also you're getting faster charging. This time around so 15 watt wireless charging and 20 watt wired charging is available with the iPhone 12s uh. This is a considerable up from the previous gen phones, which were only at 7.5 watts for most of the period and then 10 watt for certain devices. Now one of the major improvements or upgrades to the iPhone series of phones, or at least for the iPhone 12, has been the cameras and in our testing we found that the cameras are not only considerably improved but that much more intuitive and that much quicker if you're, using them in well-lit environments, if you're using them in low-light environments, uh the new a14 chip, the new sensors and the overall mix of things makes night mode really impressive and some videos.

Some of the images that we took in low light environments have come out really well, but, more importantly, the camera is super versatile and video recording with 4k at 60 fps. You can also now record HDR video with Dolby Vision in it directly on your iPhone. This makes it one of the most versatile video cameras on a smartphone available. Now we've been testing it out on the iPhone 12 for a bit, and some video capabilities of this device are super impressive. The front camera also does 4k video at 60 fps, which also looks glorious and front facing selfies.

Also, look impressive, there's also known night mode on other front-facing cameras which, if you're taking images in low-light on the front-facing camera, it uses a mix of the screen turning into a flash, as well as the night mode algorithms, to give you really impressive selfies in dim light environments, and you will see some samples on the screen right now, and they look absolutely fantastic, and we are really impressed with the camera capabilities of the iPhone 12. This between the iPhone 12 Pro. What you're missing is not only the telephoto lens but also the LIDAR sensor. Now we saw that the LIDAR sensor makes a big difference in focusing capabilities and also focusing on low light environments where the iPhone 12 struggles a little uh. The iPhone 12 Pro does have the LIDAR sensor, which does improve focusing on low light environments, so the iPhone 12 when you're in this price bracket.

Now for most people who are going to buy the iPhone 12, the base variant will not be their first choice. Most people will probably go for the 128 gigabyte variant, which will roughly cost upwards of 80 000 rupees. At this price, pretty much any other smartphone is within your price bracket. So if you look at devices from OnePlus, if you look at the ASUS ROG phone 3, if you look at Samsung's flagship devices, borrowing a few, you will find that within that budget, you can mostly buy any device. So this is in the upper sort of tier of smartphones available in the market, but then you also have that extended range where you can get foldable devices, Motorola, racer or the Samsung fold, or the Samsung flip that cross the one lakh ruby price bracket, barring those.

If you're looking for a performance to price ratio, the iPhone 12 really is the sweet spot. You can get an iPhone now for as low as 30 35 000 rupees with the iPhone SE. You do have varied phones in the price bracket, leading up to the iPhone 12. , and also it doesn't matter whether you're going to be creating content or using this for your work or just gaming on the device. If you are spending that much money for the iPhone 12, you are getting not only the access to some of the features that are directly built into the device, but also some of the services that are exclusive to Apple devices.

Sure MagSafe seems like a novelty right now, but it can develop into an ecosystem of accessories and peripherals that people can use on a day-to-day basis. There is also this whole chunk of apple services that come now with Apple devices, Apple TV plus, apple, music, apple, fitness. If you use an Apple Watch, the iPhone makes sense, there's also the whole ecosystem of apple with the iCloud services. If you use an iMac, the iPhone turns out to be the best device. If you use a MacBook, the iPhone turns out to be the best device to have for a portable experience of whatever files or data you have on either of those devices.

So considering those things, the iPhone 12 is an impressive device, because not only does it deliver on the hardware side of things, whether you're looking at benchmarks or performance, but also the whole entire experience, and even though the word ecosystem gets thrown a lot with Apple devices, it truly fits in with the iPhone 12 and if you want basically the best apple experience, you're going to get that when you use an iPhone when you use the MacBook when you use a home pod when you use an Apple Watch, and all of that combined gives you basically an experience that, for now till today is unmatched. When you try to put things together, you can't get the same experience. If you buy a Samsung phone and a windows' laptop, you can't get the same experience if you buy the Google Pixel and another device, so the iPhone not only delivers in performance and camera capability, but also the entire ecosystem, and I think that's why the iPhone 12 for a lot of people will be the sweet spot for the iPhone devices, because the iPhone 12 Pro may not have some of the features that everyday users use. So if you don't use a telephoto camera every day, you don't need the pro. If you don't use uh photography as much, and you don't care about low light photography, the LIDAR sensor may not be for you and because of those things, the iPhone 12 turns out to be a better purchase for 90 of the people who are going to be buying or upgrading to an iPhone.

Now, let's talk about the missing charger inside the box now I know this is a big deal for a lot of people, but for most users, if in 2020 you don't already have a charger inside your house, there's something wrong. That is happening for the fact that they haven't included a charger. I think most people who are going to be buying the iPhone, don't really care about it, and the people who are making the noise about buying a charger or not including a charger, are the people who are not going to be buying an iPhone so disregard the noise and don't let a simple charger decide whether you're going to buy the phone. If it's something that you like, if it's something that solves your purpose, if you're upgrading from a previous generation iPhone, you already have the charging infrastructure in your house, and they do include an USB c to lightning cable. So if you do have an android device that came with an USB charger, this will support 20 watt fast charging.

If you own a MacBook or an iPad, you already have the charging infrastructure available to you. So all of those things in mind, the iPhone 12 really does satisfy quite a lot of questions for a lot of people, and it will turn out to be one of the best phones of 2020. That's our review!
