Hi guys this is json. com, and I'm here with a review of the Samsung Galaxy z4 2 5g. Yes, the foldable phone, the one that goes like this and turns into a smaller diagonal, but also bigger than the predecessor. Now this handset was unveiled on August 5th, and it was detailed further on September 1st, its affordable phone priced at around 2 000, and it's got a triple camera. It's got a bigger external screen and also a bigger internal screen. That's able to fold in two aside from that.
We have here the mystic bronze version of the device, there's also mystic black and a tome brown. Let's get straight to the design. Okay. So, first, this is a huge device. It's quite gigantic.
It weighs 282 grams, which is about 20 grams, more than the predecessor when closed it's 16.8 millimeters in thickness and when opened up it's a more reasonable, 6.9 millimeters in thickness. Now the build involves the following materials. This is glass. This is also glass, and here we have aluminum on the frames, and this is the special hinge with a cam cover and some special sweepers inside that will sweep all the particles which would damage the hinge and its mechanisms. There is a bit of space here in between the two things, and this hinge and this general mechanism feels more reassuring than the previous galaxy fold that much I can tell you while being reassuring.
It's also more flexible, it's less strict with the opening gesture. Now, when you were using the first fold, you felt something like this: I'm opening it, I'm prying it I'm trying to right now, it's more fluid, more natural, that's the difference between the feeling of the first galaxy fold and the feeling of the z fold tool. Okay, so in 22 countries in the world you can customize this area with four metallic hues and the build is excellent. I have to say that, and let's go to the inside now. This screen here has a pre-applied from the factory plastic cover and under that you can find the ultra-thin glass the solution that we also saw the Galaxy Z, flip.
Okay, so that's pretty much it. You can also open it up to new angles. The galaxy fold only opened up to 90 degrees. This one you can open it up from 75 to 115 degrees, and it stays like that. Basically recreating sort of a 12 mini laptop experience.
Does anyone remember the mid or the UPC long gone? Okay, we're done with the design, I'm pretty happy with the choices they made, maybe minus the weight and as far as the screens are concerned, the inner one is bigger than the predecessor it's 7.6 inch or this time around dynamic AMOLED 2208 over 1768 pixels, HDR, 10, plus and 120 hertz, refresh rate of the adaptive kind. So it's not always 120 hertz. Sometimes it goes down. Sometimes it goes up depending on the situation. This is the inner screen 7.6 inch and the outer screen has definitely increased a lot from the galaxy fold that one had a 4.6 inches. This one has a 6.23 inches, which is actually usable, super AMOLED 2260 over 816, pixel and quite usable, although I still find the keyboard to be a bit cramped. Okay, so you cannot test the screen without watching a video.
That's a mantra of mine, and here we go test video like this, and if you want to enjoy it in a full screen experience, you have to go like this, and you cannot avoid the typical black bars. We also saw them on the Huawei Mate XS. We also saw them on the first galaxy fall. Then here they are again now set from the black bars. You can see here the cutout for the selfie camera, which is unavoidable and may spoil part of the experience, but it's better than the notch of the predecessor for sure the screen you're seeing here it's bright, crisp excellently calibrated.
It has a very wide range of colors. The contrast is excellent in the sunlight and the view angles are, as you can see excellent now. The external screen is also pretty good, and I'm curious to see if the experience will be kept here. Let's see nope, and we have to go again do like this and let's see how video looks like here, so that's about it, a bit more cinematic, and you're wasting a part of it when you're zooming like this anyway, I'm satisfied with experience on both screen minus the black bars on the main one. Now we also do tests on our displays and one of the tests involves brightness.
Okay. So here we are. This is the screen brightness test, and this is the main screen we achieved 552 lux units, which is a very solid result. It actually beats rivals from the segment uh. It beats.
Let's see, rivals like the galaxy s20 series. It beats the first galaxy fault which had 404 lux units, it picks the Galaxy Z, flip and also the Huawei Mate XS. It only stays below something like the iPhone 11 Pro max and the Galaxy Note 10 plus. If you really are keeping score. This is the internal screen.
This is the secondary screen, the external one. The scores are very close, 550 lux pretty much the same thing: okay, so we're done with the screens, I'm happy with them. Aside from the black bars and we're now going inside we're going into the actual device where we find the familiar face: Qualcomm snapdragon, 865, plus the most powerful CPU on the market right now, it's accompanied by 12 gigs of ram should be lpddr5 and uh 256 or 520 gigabytes of storage of the UFS 3.1 variety, no micros here, and also no trace of lag zero lag, no matter if you're browsing no matter if you're, watching videos or even playing PUBG, as I have on this device, and you'll see at the end of the review. So all the only good things happen when it comes to the performance of the device. Zero problems with lag stutter freezes actually didn't expect to have any problems.
We have benchmarks here and, as you can see, we place high in most of them in on two to eight fifth spot uh beating out several other models. Several other factions from this year, one plus eight oppos, find x2 and the list goes on and also the galaxy s20 ultra. We stayed below the gaming phones like the ASUS ROG phone 3 and below the freshly launched before 7. Pro when it comes to the more famous geek bench 5, this is the multi-core score were placed on the 10th spot, beating the Huawei Mate XS and Huawei p40 pro scoring below the Motorola edge plus and the galaxy uh. Well, uh.
Excuse me below the OnePlus 8. When it comes to 3dmark, slingshot uh, it's actually very relevant here for gaming, and I have good news. It's placed on the fourth spot. It's only beaten by uh gaming phone ROG phone 3, Motorola, h, plus and before 7 pro. Otherwise, it beats all the other models, so it's definitely suitable for gaming.
There's no overheating, no matter what I did pictures in the park at 30 degrees Celsius in the sun, benchmarking gaming, no matter what I did. There was no overheating, and now, let's talk battery. So when it comes to battery life, we're dealing with a 4 500 William hour unit here, which charges via wire at 25 watts, 11 watts via wireless and can juice up another device. If you put it on its backside with reverse-charge at 4.5 watts. As usual, we do three tests.
The first of them involves video playback in a loop, so let's see how we did okay, so we go here tests battery video playback. Actually, I would say pretty nice for a phone with 120 hertz adaptive refresh rate. We achieved 12 hours and 53 minutes. I know it's not a record. Nowadays.
Phones even get well 20 hours, but I would say it's fine 12 hours and 53 minutes is superior to the Huawei, mate XS and the first fold. So that's an upgrade. It's inferior to the Galaxy Z flip if you're only counting foldable. Now, if you're, counting the continuous usage now in this department, we achieved a pretty low score, 8 hours and 11 minutes. What this means is that, if you're in the office all day, if you're going to towards your home, you may need to recharge your phone from your car.
That's the current situation with continuous usage. It's inferior to a lot of phones, 167 of them and expect just a little more, but it can be fixed with a setting of 60 hertz. The charging is done, but in one hour and 53 minutes and after 30 minutes you're 45 after one hour, you're 85, which I would say it's okay, but the total charging is a bit on the long side uh. It's actually erroneously stated here. I actually must make a correction, it's actually 1 hour and 24 minutes.
That's the full charge time we have written it down wrong anyway, I would say it's still quite long compared to what we're getting nowadays with those crazy phones from China in the acoustics department. Things are pretty clear and self-explanatory. One speaker here, one speaker here: stereo with the promise of 22 bit AKG tuning and also a bunch of headphones, which you saw on the galaxy s20 and note 20 they're exactly the same. Now you can do your own tuning from here, and you've got your options like this. It will be Atmos, which is available here and Dolby Atmos for gaming and Dolby.
Atmos itself has several sub settings: auto movie, music and voice. There's an equalizer here. There's a new HQ upscale. So enough things to keep you busy if you're an audiophile. Who knows what he's doing we have our sample of copyright free music right here? Okay, so this is enough.
I probably deafened my neighbors already, so you probably already figured out that we have a bunch of very powerful speakers, they're, actually reminding me of tablets which come with very potent quad speakers. Nowadays. I have two speakers here: they're deafening, I would even say they're too loud at 70. They should deliver enough power. They have a solid base, okay, high notes and a nice voice.
But if you're listening to rock music or drum and bass, there may be a bit of noise happening because it's simply too loud in the camera department, I'm going to keep things short, 10, megapixel, selfie camera here in a punch, hole. The predecessor had an ugly notch in this area and another 10 megapixel camera here and then another punch hole a hole right in the screen. At the back side, a combo of three 12 megapixel cameras led flash. So it's a very simple recipe: 12 megapixel main camera optical image, stabilization with a wide angle, lens, ultra white 12, megapixel camera with the biggest degree on the market, 123 degrees and finally, the 12 megapixel telephoto camera with a pretty underwhelming 2x optical zoom. I wanted 3x but who's going to listen to me.
We have the single take feature. So basically, we have all the core features on the galaxy s20 series single take, there's a video here. You can shoot up to 4k 60 frames per second and the more department you got. Your live focus video night pro video super slo-mo, you get the gist of it, and you even have a food option. Okay, so let's go to the gallery now, because we have a gigantic amount of photos and boy.
Am I going to waste time scrolling through them? Luckily, we have this big screen to enjoy them on. Okay. My first impression is that there is a lot of over saturation and the colors are definitely a few degrees warmer than they should be. This also happened to me on the galaxy s20, plus, it's the fault of the AI. I deactivated the scene optimizer and things got a bit better, but not by very much okay, so this should be the regular shot.
This is the 2x zoom shot, and this is the ultra white shot, which luckily doesn't deform the colors too much okay and once again testing out the zoom. I'm a bit underwhelmed by this zoom. It feels like a mid-range phone nowadays, and I've seen better on the OnePlus 7t pro and the Motorola one zoom. To be honest, now the colors got a bit better later on, but I still feel that the water, the sky and the vegetation are too brightly. Colored and vivid for my taste and maybe anyone's taste, the ultrawide shots are very detailed and very white.
The sky is pretty nightly rendered. Some phones have their ultraviolet cameras, deform the colors compared to the main camera colors. Even more colors happen here, as usual, Samsung produces some of the best reds on the market, a variety of shades of red which are pretty well shown. Okay, I also did a single take and a bunch of selfies. These are irrelevant with the glasses on.
These are a bit more relevant now something I noticed here, I'm a bit underwhelmed by the behavior of the external 10 megapixel camera. I actually liked the internal one more, even though my face is too white. It's actually not that white in real life. It feels a bit odd that it will be shown like this. So there's a lot of detail here in the hair area, the clothes the texture is excellent, and the eyes are very human.
I got rid of all the beautifying effects so, aside from the extra white face, I'm happy with the selfie capture, but the internal camera feels a bit better, even more colors here in these toys, and I even played with the both effect for this little dog. Of course, both is also available for your face. You can play with it accordingly, okay, more shots here, and the one thing to remember is that this handles close-ups pretty well, unlike the s20 ultra. So that's a plus and the colors of the flowers were pretty well calibrated, so I would say it fits somewhere between the Galaxy Note, 10 series and the note 20 series, maybe even close to the s10 plus and there's a bit of over saturation going on, especially if you keep the AI on these are daytime photos and these are low light photos which are frankly, not bad. Of course, the ultra white one is disappointing.
My ultraviolet cameras cannot handle low light situations, but the main camera ones actually above expectation they feel like 2020 and not like 2019 and there's a series of them here. There's a bit of noise happening. If you look in the distance, but it was to be expected from the 12 megapixel sensor, and these are some shots of close-ups of toys during the nighttime, not half bad. Look at the texture of objects, not half bad, actually, quite good and the best one is this one. This is the regular shot and check this out, regular, shot and night mode shot quite impressive, quite the difference, even though in the distance there's a bit of noise but the well.
The way the shot is lit up is definitely impressive, and you have to keep your phone steady if you really want to take a proper shot like this, of course, also have some food photos, if you're really into that. My impression is that the night mode is closer to um 2020 and the daytime photos are closer to 2019, maybe to a note 10, so not a huge upgrade and if you're really comparing to the past year phone, especially the zoom, let me down it feels like something from last year. Okay, so this is all we have to say about the photos for videos, I'm going to resort to this app here we have 18 videos, I'm going to start with the stabilization test and go like this. Okay, so uh, even the Galaxy Z flip. The clamshell had excellent stabilization.
This one continues in the same vein. This is with the super, steady mode activated and, as you can see, I'm descending stairs and the image doesn't flicker and there's no problem. Okay. So this checks out. I also checked the focus focusing on a close-up and on the background and quickly alternating between them.
As you can see, very fast focus. Samsung is a bit of a landmark in this department, and we also have the both video, where I'm applying a bunch of effects. It looks pretty cool on par with the note 10. Maybe the note 20 series and I noticed a bit of a problem a bit of a tendency here: um, sometimes when you're shooting 4k video in 60 frames per second, the image is wobbly. It feels like you're on a boat, and it's doing something like this.
That's the vibe I'm getting so, if you're, watching this on YouTube you're going to get this feeling like the camera, is doing something like that. Like you're on a ship or a boat, don't know if you can see it here, it happens when it's trying to stabilize as you're panning, okay, and it doesn't happen at 4k 30 frames per second, which is rather odd. We have more videos here, we'll detail them in the full text review, but I'm happier with the capture with the video capture during the day than the photo capture, as you can probably tell even the colors are a bit more okay, but the zoom once again doesn't impress uh now the nighttime capture. Sadly underwhelmed me, I started off with this one, which was actually weird, it's very ghostly, very murky and noisy. It was a dark area, so it's not very relevant, but it's still 4k in 60 frames expected better.
This is actually a bit better, but there's a lot of artifacts and reflections which don't do justice to such an expensive phone. Okay and finally, the 4k 30 frames per second looks better. So, oddly enough, 4k 60 frames per second looks weird on this phone. It may be captured with the ultrawide camera. It's a theory of mine, don't bet on it, but it looks strange, and I prefer 4k in 30 frames to 4k in 60 frames or, as it may seem, okay.
So this is pretty much it when it comes to the photo and video test. Once again as a whole, the cameras are closer to 2019 than to 2020. Now, if you want to talk about connectivity, things are simple: USB port here, there's 5g, there's Wi-Fi 6. , there's Bluetooth, 5.0 GPS NFC, and I don't think I forgot anything now. Luckily, I had the Wi-Fi six routers lying around, and I managed to take some nifty tests.
Don't know if I saved the capture here and maybe even didn't. Oh, no here we are okay, so uh. This is my first test and the highest result.765 mega per second download 520 mega per second upload. People are going to ask me what country is this speed achievable Romania with the local carrier, several other tests and attempts using a Wi-Fi, six routers, and I would say, I'm happy with the results. Okay, we're done with the connectivity.
Let's talk about this software, so software wise. This is android 10 with one UI 2.5. On top the same one, from the note 20 series, you still got your window here on the left side, which aggregates your useful stuff like Netflix, Spotify news and more. These are cards, and then we have the main interface. You can change your wallpaper theme, widgets, which are minimalistic for sure, and you can also change the layout if you want to, you, can have the home and app screens and home screen only app buttons, app icon, edges and so forth.
The edge from back in the days of the Galaxy S7 edge is still here, and you can actually trigger multitasking from this area in a simpler fashion. There's an extra layer of multitasking here. So if you want to apply on these two windows, something extra, you tap, this open a pop-up view and now right now, I'm using three applications. Maybe the play store as well, so I'm in the play store I'm in the settings, and I'm also in the gallery at the same time and there's also a cool feature here. So as far as I know, you should be able to.
Actually here we are now we have the screen split in three sections. I can navigate the settings, the apps and the gallery at the same time with ease and with no problem. So this is one aspect of the multitasking splitting the screen and, of course it also works in other orientations. So you can take over your work. You can also swap content between these apps.
You can also transfer data. Furthermore, you can also transfer a screenshot, for example, and once again drag and drop useful stuff. There's only one element here forgot to show you something: the flex mode in the camera department goes like this. So if you do this, you can see here a preview of your last video or photo, so you're no longer forced to leave the camera app. You can see the settings here and this 90 degree opening allows you to use the phone like a tripod, just put it on a flat surface, and it will take a picture of you and another useful feature involves the camera.
So I tap this cover screen preview and can actually see using here. So people can take group photos more easily and selfies with the main camera, which is another cool feature triggered by the new display setup. Well, other than that, I think you pretty much know the experience of one UI. Not much has changed from the Galaxy S10. Excuse me, s20 from earlier this year, I have linked windows, I'm pretty sure you should have wireless decks, mirroring your screen, wirelessly to well display screen, recorder lighting edge, there's a dark mode and a variety of other features here, there's the digital well-being and for security.
You can notice that I usually press this power button, which has a fingerprint scanner and, as you can see, it's rather fast. This is not the finger. This is not the finger, but this is actually the finger, and it unlocks the device quite fast. So I think we covered up everything and if you're going to do some productivity stuff, you have the Microsoft folder here and if you're going to enter office and open up a document or things like that, you have a nifty bar at the top, and you can do what you want with it. So there should also here's the bar I mentioned before.
It's basically a tablet experience on a phone, that's the cool thing about it in outlook. The screen is split into inbox and recent conversations and that's pretty much it is useful apps Samsung provides with smart things, there's their galaxy store where there's Fortnite banned from the play store, Samsung health, there's, Netflix, Spotify, there's Facebook, which I should be logged into, not sure if I log into but probably am naught anyway. It remains to be c, okay, so that's pretty much it so far. Uh when it comes to the review of this handset and at the end, yes, we have reached the end: nope, not logged in after all, okay, so uh, some person asked me how PUBG looks here, so I have the game launcher installed, and it's time to show him or her what PUBG mobile is like for our viewers in India. I'm sad to remind you that PUBG mobile has been banning your country, which is a big loss, but you can probably get it somehow in some clandestine way.
Okay, so it's verdict time season 14 here: okay, I'm playing arena team that match start and the pros and cons for the galaxy z4 2 are the following: on the pro side: you're getting a device which is very powerful, processor wise. It's got an excellent, build superior to the predecessor for sure and basically any other foldable phone on the market, as well as bigger and improved screens which are quite bright and have vivid colors, and the speakers that we get here are also pretty loud. One would say too loud. The photos and videos look fine. I mean they look like a quality set of photos.
You can definitely take a decent gallery with them and some memorable shots. You could take 4k video 60 frames per second, you have multitasking, which is improved with the split screen thingy another big plus, the fingerprint scanner is fast connective is also fast. Furthermore, you saw me testing out the whole Wi-Fi six affairs. There's no overheating here, no matter what I did no overheating, so snapdragon was a good idea in order to replace got four bites an Enos and actually pretty solid. The low light photos, especially with the night mode on those, are the pros on the cones.
It's a heavy phone, the continuous usage isn't flattering you'll, be forced to charge the phone when you're coming back from work. I feel that the speakers are too loud, and they even get noisy, sometimes there's no ip60 certification. The charging is a bit on the long side, not hugely, but still a bit on the long side. The main screen draws quite a bit of fingerprints, grease and lint. I usually have to clean it, and also the camera was sometimes a bit underwhelming, especially when it comes to the 4k 60 frames per second video.
It looked a bit weird at times and actually felt that the 4k 30 frames was better. The zoom is lacking, which is another bit of a bummer, and some photos were a bit over saturated if you're really employing the AI mode and the black bars of the video playback may also come into play. Okay, so we're done with the pros and cons it's time to discuss the conclusion. Now. This phone is an improvement exactly in the ways the fan wanted.
The fans wanted from the galaxy fault. One gun is the notch. The external screen is bigger. We have a more reassuring hinge, which is more comfy now to open and close it's a more secure experience and a more relaxed experience. You don't feel like you, have something fragile in your hands like it's going to break or affect your usage.
That's probably the core of the experience. It's an expensive phone, it's a niche phone for sure it definitely kills tablets. For me, this is definitely a reason to never again buy an 8-inch tablet. It's basically useless at this point and that's got to account for something and also when everything is said and done. This is the only phone on the market which reminds me right now of the Nokia communicator when it started out, which is a pretty cool thing to do.
It's still a 2 000 phones, so you should stay informed on what you're buying a better zoom wouldn't have hurt a better battery, wouldn't have hurt, and maybe a stylus would have been nice to have at this price tag. But when all said and done, it's an excellent fit of engineering, and we should appreciate that this is the review from json. com hope. You stay informed and check out our website every once in a while, because we have even more reviews to show you in the future bye bye.
