Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra REVIEW: 30 Days Later! By Thao Huynh

When I take a step back and look at what they've done over the past few years, it's really changed my perception of what a phone can actually do. What do I mean? Let's get to the review hi everyone tad here, so say what you want about this camera design, but you can't deny that it's eye-catching. It's definitely different and makes the phone stand out. Even when you throw a case on it on the front, you get a super nice massive display, I've gotten so used to their screens.

Now that I almost take them for granted, it's stunning, it features a 120 hertz refresh rate, that's adaptive, so it can automatically drop all the way down to 10 hertz. What this does are that it'll save you a lot of battery. Unlike last year, you can actually run 120 hertz at the full 1440p resolution. Do I notice it over 1080p? No, not really but hey Samsung named it ultra-right, so give us the ultra experience curved displays aren't for everyone I mean, even I prefer a flat display, but the slight curve plays really nice with the software. The swipe to go back or even just bringing up the edge panel feels a lot nicer on the thumb.

Okay, these speakers are kind of amazing. I thought the sound on the smaller s21 was good, but when I heard these, damn put it side by side with the note 10 plus, which is almost two years old now, and you really hear the improvements. There's more bass and the high end isn't as harsh. They do a great job, filling up a small to medium-sized room, perfect for kicking back and relaxing to something like an audiobook from today's video sponsor audible. This one is both larger and faster, making it so much more reliable versus the one from last year. Glass screen protectors still don't play well with it, so I'd probably stay away from those. It also tends to act up when my finger gets really dry from the cold weather.

I'll usually have to press down extra hard for it to register. You've also still got the 2d face, unlock option which works really well, but its nowhere as secure use it for convenience, but for security. I'd stick to the fingerprint scanner: this is a hefty phone and thankfully the battery makes it worth it. I've been averaging close to two days per charge, with like eight to nine hours of screen on time, gaming or using the camera. A lot will hit the battery harder, but otherwise we're getting really close to a weekend.

Long battery I've been very happy with it. Something you might not be happy about is the lack of a charging brick in the box, that's kind of the direction the industry is going in here in Canada, I saw that Samsung had the 25 watt charging brick on sale for like 1250, which is cheap, but once again that's something you used to get in the box. Samsung also quietly removed, expandable storage. I wish they didn't, but it is what it is.128 gigs is probably enough, but spring for 256 or 512. If you shoot a lot of video, one of the biggest reasons to grab the ultra over the s21 or s21 plus, is that it's the only one that works with the s pen? Now I didn't pick up the pen and case combo, because I already have one of their tablets and the included s pen there works on here.

I just couldn't see myself rocking a case that added so much width to the phone compared to the galaxy notes being able to slide the pen into the phone is way more elegant and portable, but the full-sized s-pen is so much more comfortable to write with you've essentially got a digital notepad for jotting down ideas sketches highlighting documents filling out forms. If these things improve your workflow, it's a great tool to have. I can't stress enough how much more comfortable this larger s pen is. I really like what Samsung's doing with their software, except for these banner ads that they've thrown into Samsung health yeah, not a fan of those. The software is still jammed, packed with features and one UI 3 just feels a lot cleaner and more refined, 120 hertz plenty of ram and extra attention to the animations makes this phone feel really smooth.

No matter what you're doing a highlight for me is the outrageous number of multitasking options. Sliding in a calculator for quick, math or dragging stuff from my clipboard into an email is so helpful. Some other practical examples. I can watch a YouTube video while scrolling through something like twitter, how about pin important info on the screen while filling out a form or even open apps in a pop-up that you can minimize and pull up whenever you want now, if you like to tinker and customize your phone, I think you'll really appreciate the widget customization. The stuff you can do in here is next level. I also can't forget about DEX if there's a feature that almost justifies a phone's one thousand dollar price tag, it's gotta be decks. You can literally plug or cast the phone to a monitor or TV and bam. It's a makeshift computer, add a Bluetooth keyboard, and you can get a good amount of work done. Oh, don't look now, but Samsung's also piecing together a nice little ecosystem of their own with tablets, watches earbuds and their partnership with Microsoft has led to some cool integration with windows.

I will admit the learning curve is sort of steep for a lot of these features, and if you prefer simplicity, all these options can get overwhelming really fast. It also boils down to if you'll actually use them. If you do, you'll likely love them, but if not they're kind of just there right. What about the cameras? Well, they're, perfect for the price I wouldn't expect any less. Can we just take a moment to appreciate how great smartphone cameras have gone? This is a quad lens setup, a wide ultra-wide, plus dual telephoto lenses, a three times optical and a ten times optical.

The zoom capability is what really separates this. It's a lot of fun to zoom in on things and get very nice looking photos that just weren't possible before it goes all the way to 100 times, which is great for marketing, but I haven't found it all that useful in everyday life. Okay, I love the selfies they've toned down the processing a lot, and so you get way more natural. Looking pictures, the camera app itself is very Samsung in that there's, so many options and tweaks available new one here is focus assist where it switches to the ultra-wide lens. When you get close enough to your subject, you'll get more in focus, and it acts like a macro lens too, which is cool.

Just look at how close you can get in every situation. These rear cameras have met or exceeded my expectations, except for one, and it's a big one. For me, I still get a lot of motion blur with indoor lighting pictures of my dog-end up looking a little fuzzy, even though he's not even moving all that much I've gotten in the habit of taking burst shots and then selecting the best frame. But ideally I'd want to be able to just point and shoot video quality overall is solid. Footage looks great, it's nice and stable too.

If I had to nitpick, it can occasionally miss focus for like a split second. At a time, I'm hoping that's something they'll fix with an update. Why do I always film on the coldest days of winter? Okay, there's a lot of rocks here, so I'm currently testing director's view. It's a new feature that allows you to film, with both the front and back camera at the same time and right now, I'm using the main lens, but you can switch between the different lenses with no issues. So let's get that waterfall right there, I'm going to switch to the telephoto lens.

Look at that. Let's get the ultra-wide shot here. Nice. I love the concept I just wish. There was some sort of stabilization in this mode.

As you can see, it's a little shaky. This is definitely overkilled for phone. The average person doesn't need all this heck. I don't even use half the features the phone is capable of, but that doesn't take away how much of a monster this thing is. They called it ultra and this year they've delivered the best phone I've ever used.

It's got some quirks and a few things could be improved, but I have to give them props for the overall package. If you're looking for the ultimate android phone and don't mind paying for it, the s21 ultra is easy to recommend it's over the top. But man it's a lot of fun to use as usual.
