Samsung Galaxy Note 20 vs Samsung Galaxy S10e - Battery Comparison

Hey guys and gals Danny boy here, and today I want to talk about the battery life here and comparing the Galaxy Note 20 with the Galaxy S10e. Okay, so we're here in the fall of 2020. The note 20 came out not too long ago. You know the retail price on it is 999 bucks, okay, s10e we're looking at 599 bucks we're about a 400 difference here, but both of these phones have the flat displays, which you know. I really like flat displays on a smartphone when I can get one. We do also nowadays have the galaxy s 20 Fe, which also has a flat display.

I don't have that phone, but I think it would be a good option here too, in the flat display department, but anyway guys. What I want to talk about is the batteries on these phones. So let's go ahead and kind of jump right into this. So Galaxy Note 20. What we got going on here is a 4300 William hour battery.

Now we can see this phone is pretty thin. Okay, it is a bigger phone. We do have a 6.7 inch display here, um, but pretty thin phone nonetheless and 4 300 William hours. I'd say: that's pretty good. Okay, it's definitely not the best I've ever seen, but it's definitely not bad.

Okay, so pretty good size battery here on the note, 20. , okay, Galaxy S10e: here we have a 3100 William hour battery okay, and this is a smaller phone. Okay, so about you know roughly 25 smaller battery size and as far as physical dimensions. I don't know what percentage I'd put it at, but it definitely is a smaller phone. As you can see, we got a 5.8 inch display on the s10e here. So you know definitely more one-handed friendly, okay phone does feel a bit thicker.

Okay, then the note 20. Obviously these aren't the same cases, but just in feeling the phone, I would say it feels a little thicker. I don't know the actual dimensions on them. It could just be this case, but I think in general here let's go ahead and pull the case off just to get this right. Ah, let's make sure but yeah I mean just eyeballing it here guys.

I don't know, I mean they're, pretty close, I guess it was just the case they're pretty close on thickness as a matter of fact, ah yeah, the note 20 might be a touch thicker. I don't know it's pretty close there. Okay, but you know that's where we stand now um both of these phones do have wireless charging and obviously, with the note 20 here, there was kind of a lot of. I don't know if I want to say controversy, but some people weren't happy with the choice of the plastic back here on the note, 20. , don't get me wrong, it definitely looks beautiful uh it just.

It looks real solid kind of matte finish here. However, for a thousand dollars, I definitely would expect a glass back right. I mean that only makes sense, but Samsung did retain the um, the wireless charging here, so Galaxy S10e. You know four hundred dollars cheaper, but it does to have wireless charging. It's got this nice shiny, glossy glass back here; okay, so both phones can charge wirelessly and they both do have corded fast charging as well.

I'm not sure what the amount is on that. I know with the note 20 I think it's like 25 watts, I'm not sure if it's that much on the s10e, but both do cord fast charging, um, so good experience there guys you know. As a matter of fact, I find myself using that cord every once in a while on the note 20, just to top myself uh off a little since the wireless charging uh is a bit slower for me anyway, I don't have a fast wireless charger, but anyway that's kind of where we're at here. Okay, let's actually get these cases situated with the right phone here, okay, so basically what you're probably wondering is: what's been my experience, okay, so I've daily driven both of these phones for a pretty substantial amount of time. Uh.

I don't remember exactly how long I did the s10e. I think I daily drove it for about six seven months. Furthermore, I want to say the note 20 um. Furthermore, I think about six weeks I daily drove it um. So basically you know what has my experience been with the batteries on these phones? Okay, now we know both of these phones do have an always on display.

Okay, so that's going to hit your battery uh. They both do have 60 hertz displays, okay, which is a little surprising here for the note 20 being 2020, but it is what it is that was kind of another point of criticism by some, especially considering the thousand dollar price tag here, uh, but obviously that's easier on the battery life. However, the Galaxy Note 20 does have something that the s10e doesn't and that's 5g. Okay, so I use aunt and um. You know, so I'm connected to 5g and what I've found is um that the 5g here uh definitely takes a hit on the battery guys it definitely at least that's what I think is going on.

Let me kind of back up here and explain, so we said 4300 William hours here versus 3100 here, um generally, by the end of the day, I'm a kind of medium user, usually 12 13 hours off charge right. So here on the note 20 uh, I generally have about 50 battery life left. Now, let's give or take okay, maybe five or ten percent, but about 50 battery life here left at the end of the day, whereas with the s10e same identical usage, 12, 13 hours, off charge kind of medium usage. Here I have about 60 battery life left at the end of the day. Okay, so that to me, I think uh means.

The only thing I can think of here guys is the 5g. I think the 5g is hitting the battery here on the note 20. , I don't know what else we could point to it doesn't have a higher refresh rate. You know I rock them the same setup about the same brightness. You know, so I'm not quite sure why um, especially considering we have a bigger battery here, you know, but we do have a bigger phone.

Furthermore, you know bigger display uh, but that's been my experience, so bottom line here guys is that both of these phones have good batteries. Okay, 50 left at the end of the day is acceptable. That's that's! Okay! That's you know it's even good. I guess you could say it's not the best. I've seen it's, not the 60 that I see here or the 65 or 70 I've.

Seen like on my OnePlus 7t or one plus, seven pro that I used to have, or even my iPhone 10s max. It's not that, but it's definitely not bad here. Yes, but I think considering you do have a 4300 William hour battery here, you would expect more. You know I would expect to at least be at that 60 percent point here at the end of the day and um, the other thing of it is, I haven't been able to find a way to turn off the 5g at least natively within the Samsung settings. Now I think you can download third-party apps that will allow you to disable the 5g if you want to try to save some of that battery life, but you shouldn't have to do that.

I wish Samsung would let you know say I want to turn off 5g. I just want 4g that would be sweet, but I haven't been able to find it in the settings guys or even in the developer options or anything. Maybe I'm missing it, but I haven't seen it so. I kind of wish that seeing I know it's going to sound bad people probably are going to disagree about this, but I kind of wish Samsung had waited another year before putting the 5g in. For me, 4g is plenty fast I can get by on 4g any day.

It's really 4g is more than I even need, so 5g is kind of like overkill. For me, I just don't need that kind of speed um, but it is what it is here guys they did put it in, and you know 50 not bad right. It's still good uh, but it is'd be nice to see it at 70. That would be sweet uh, but it is what it is here guys. So those are my kind of thoughts here on comparing these phones' battery wise, definite winner for me has been the Galaxy S10e here so guys.

I hope you have enjoyed this video and, of course, if you're enjoying my videos be sure to subscribe to my channel and then, of course, hitting that thumbs up button helps as well, but for now guys peace out.
