Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: Hands on

Hello everyone Vicky with phone arena and fresh off Samsung unpacked. We have the Samsung Galaxy note, 20 ultra with the first hands-on look at the device. We had a couple of hours with it, and these are our first impressions. This is Samsung's next big thing, the note 20 ultra and right from the get go. You see that this is a big device with a brand-new design which looks more beautiful, but the essence and everything that makes the note a note is, of course, the s pen. Now the s pen, on this new note, 20 ultra, is moved to the left-hand side, because you have the buttons now on the right which are more convenient and easier, especially if you're a right-handed person taking out the s-pen is super easy.

You just click it, and it pops out, and you take it out, and it matches the color of the device that you have now here we are looking at the mystic black version of the note.20 ultra and the s pen is also black, and what you can do with the s pen is that you can write on your screen with a true pen to paper feel- and this is probably the biggest upgrade to the s pen since it's very launch and that's because of the improved lower latency. Now you have a latency of just 9 milliseconds, an improvement from the previous one, which used to be 42 milliseconds, and I know those numbers sound confusing, but latency is basically the time it takes for the screen to register what you write with the s pen from the moment. You touch the screen, so it's much faster nearly four times faster than before, and it has the true pen to paper feel it just it's just instantaneous very impressive, especially for drawing or writing stuff on the on your screen. If you're using the s pen a lot, you should definitely consider the note 20 ultra, as this is probably the biggest upgrade now back to the phone itself. It's a premium luxurious device, and you can see this from the very making of the phone it's made out of glass, and now it uses the latest corning gorilla, glass, Vitus and this latest version of gorilla glass ensures that the phone will withstand scratches and even drops a lot better.

So it's a lot tougher, and it won't break as easily, which is a great thing, especially considering that this is a pricey phone and if you drop it, of course, glass tends to break. But this is the toughest glass you can get right now what else? In terms of design the buttons on the right hand, side are a nice improvement. There is no headphone jack, just as you would expect in 2020 on a flagship. We still miss it a bit, but nowadays, you have plenty of wireless headphones option, have USB c port for charging and, of course, the biggest design accent on the note.20 ultra is that huge camera bump it protrudes in a big way from the back of the phone and it, actually. You can compare it to the note 10 plus it's a big difference.

The note 10 plus with this camera just looks tiny and the camera bump on the note 20 ultra is gigantic. Now we'll speak more about the camera later, but let's continue on with the design. Now, of course, since this is a big phone, we tried to put it in the pocket, and it does fit in a regular jeans pocket. But if you're, rocking skinny jeans or something with tinier pockets forget about it, this phone is huge. Apart from the design, one of the biggest reasons why you would want to go with a Samsung phone is the display and the display on the Galaxy Note.20 ultra is a gigantic 6.9 inch dynamic, AMOLED screen. This is the best screen Samsung has made so far, not just because of its size, but also because it features basically no bezel.

It's a true edge, edge-to-edge experience, and then you have the colors. The colors look really impressive and Samsung shows this with a selection of beautiful new live wallpapers that are animated in a very nice manner. Now this is a small touch, something that not everyone will use on a daily basis, but it just shows attention to detail, and it's something you expect out of a premium device now. Why does Samsung call this a dynamic, AMOLED screen and not a super AMOLED screen as before? Well, the dynamic part comes from the new refresh rate. The note 20 ultra is the first note series phone with a high refresh rate.

Here we have 120hz refresh rate, and it's dynamic, meaning that, unlike on the s20 ultra, it will automatically adjust depending on the context, for example, if you have a game running at 30 frames per second, the screen will also run at 30 hertz. If you have a YouTube video playing back at 60 frames per second, the screen will adjust to 60 hertz, and if you just use the interface, you would want the maximum 120 hertz and then the screen will also adjust, and this ensures that you get the best power efficiency out of the phone and back on the s20 ultra, which also had a high refresh rate. It was a static, high refresh rate, meaning it would all constantly draw a lot of power from the battery, and it would actually uh drain it much quicker. So the battery on the note 20 ultra is slightly smaller than on the s20 ultra. You have a 4500 William hour battery cell on the note compared to a 5 000 William hour battery in the s on the s20 ultra, but actually because of those improvements, it's quite possible that the note will get actually better battery life.

One other thing about this display is just the resolution. It goes to quad HD, which is super detailed. But unfortunately, if you want to use that 120 hertz option, you can only use it at 1080p, so it's either 1080p with a high refresh rate or quad HD, with a 60 frames per second 60hz refresh rate and that's a bit of a bummer, considering that devices like the OnePlus 8 pro can still rock a quad HD screen and a high refresh rate, but I guess Samsung just decided to better preserve battery life here, and this screen also gets brighter a lot brighter. Maximum brightness tops out at 1500 nits, and this means that you can comfortably use your phone outdoors under the direct. Sunlight and you'll still see the screen easily, and then you have the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and I say ultrasonic, and it means it hasn't changed from the s20 series from the not10 series from the s10 series, and this is a bit of a disappointment.

The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that Samsung uses is a bit slower than optical fingerprint scanners and using most other phones out there, it is quite easy to register it, and it's a bit faster than before, but still it doesn't feel as instantaneous as optical fingerprint scanners. So that's a bit of a downside and under the hood, just as you'd expect from a note 20 with an ultra in its name, you have the top of the line. Specs, you have a snapdragon 865 plus chip, which is a little faster than the regular 865 version. You have.12 gigabytes of ram and storage starts at 128 gigabytes for the US model, and you can also get a 512 gigabyte version as well and there's something else about the storage. It uses the newer UFS 3.1 standard, which is faster and will help with everything running just a little. Snappier everything in the interface you just notice that one UI in this version 2.5 here is just very quick and that's not only because of the high amount of ram and the fast processor, but also because of that faster storage. You also have a micros expandable card storage option with the card up on top of the phone.

But let's talk about those cameras. Shall we the main camera here? Is a 108 megapixel sensor pretty much the same one used on the s20 ultra, then you have a secondary 12, megapixel, ultra-wide shooter, and then finally, you have a periscope zoom lens, a 12 megapixel one that can go up to five times with a native optical zoom and that's the biggest highlight of the note 20 ultra now, unlike the s20 ultra, which used to have that 100 times, space, zoom branding right on the camera here, the maximum zoom you can get to is 50 times. But honestly, that's quite okay. Images at 100x zoom just looked a bit too blurry and not quite useful and at 50 times zoom. You still get a good amount of detail without the image looking completely blurry now in terms of quality, we cannot comment just yet.

After all, we've just been using the phone for a couple of hours, but stay tuned for our review. I'm really excited to test this phone to see if the camera has improved from the s20 ultra. One thing I did notice is that you now have laser autofocus on the side of the phone, and it makes autofocusing in both photos and videos. Nearly instantaneous just take a look at this just the moment. Something enters the frame, the focus snaps into it, and it's really instantaneous truly impressive, and it's probably the biggest change from the s20 ultra, which had a bit of a wonky autofocus issue.

On the video side. You have 8k video recording. You have manual controls, you can manually, select, select the zoom level, so you can choose which part of the image the microphone will be zoomed in. So you better hear the audio from that part of a scene, full manual controls everything you'd expect out of a Samsung camera. Let's also mention a few of the cool new tricks that the Samsung interface has gotten, and one of them is DEX, which is now wireless and DEX.

For those of you who haven't used. It is an interface that allows you to connect your phone to a different device and have your phone mirrored to a Samsung TV, which is quite useful. Another new feature is the ultra-wide band chip that basically allows you to point your phone in the direction of a different phone with the same chip and allow for quick nearby sharing features. So you can quickly share files, videos and so on. So that's it guys.

A quick overview of the Samsung Galaxy note 20 ultra a truly impressive flagship, with a truly impressive premium price, starting at 1 300 for the gigabyte version and 1 500 for the 512 gigabyte model. So that's it guys a quick overview of first hands-on. Look at the Samsung Galaxy note, 20 ultra the next big thing from Samsung: truly well-designed phone with big cameras, new s-pen, a couple of new cool features and overall few refinements that make it a great flagship device, especially for those fans of the s-pen experience. Let me know what you think about it in the comments right below. Do you like it? Do you think that Samsung has innovated enough, or is it too similar to the galaxy s20 ultra?
