Red Magic 6R | Unboxing, Gaming Test & RM6 Comparison

So today we're going to be checking out a fresh gaming smartphone, the red magic 6r, where the r stands for racing uh. For some reason, it's a more affordable version of the standard red magic 6, which of course launched earlier in 2021. This bad boy will be going on sale from June, the 24th from 419 pounds, direct from Nubia's red magic website so surprisingly, affordable considering it still packs in Qualcomm's billy, big bollocks, snapdragon, 888 chipsets, and apparently it also looks a lot less like it belongs in some sort of weird 1990s sci-fi movie. So let's check out that red magic 6-0 get it all set up. Do a good bit of performance testing with gentian impact and also going to do a side-by-side comparison with the standard red magic six to see exactly what has changed up and for more than the latest greatest tech. Please do poke subscribe and hang that notifications bell cheers.

So, let's have a gander at what you get in this very black box. Obviously, one red magic, 6r smartphone you've got a 30 watt adapter. In my case a 2 pin one because mine came from Asia. Got an USP type c cable, which is of course appropriately red, magic and yeah. You get a type c, an USB to 3.5, mil headphone adapter as well, because suddenly there's no headphone jack on the red magic 6r and that's almost it, but Nubia is also bundled in a condom case with the red magic six saw as well just to help keep it protected from the elements. Slash your own butterfingered clumsiness.

So stick the red magic six saw side by side with the original red magic, six you'll notice. It is a might smaller, not a huge amount of difference, but it's a 6.67 inches compared with a behemoth, 6.8 inch, smartphone and the red magic 6r is definitely a bit more subtle in its game of styling. Compared with the red magic 6. , you don't have as many streaks of red the camera. Chassis is shunted away in the corner kind of looks almost like a regular camera chassis but yeah, let's face it.

This is still very much a gaming smartphone through and through you've still got some weird angular design work here. On the back end, it's nice and shiny up top around that camera chassis, and then you've got kind of more of a matte finish, which is good, because that should hopefully help to mask any finger scuffs and though, of course, when you are gaming on the red, magic, 6-0, presumably you're going to be clutching it like this. Quite a lot, in which case yeah that shiny bar up top is going to get just as smudgy. You've got a similar construction here on the red magic 6r, compared with the original red magic. Six you've got glass around back, you've got nice metal bit of edging and then more glass up front.

It's actually gorilla glass, 3. One difference I certainly have noticed between these two red magic smartphones is that the 6l might not be much smaller than the regular 6, but it certainly is lighter at just 186 grams. Compared with that 220 gram, heifer and while the original red magic 6 came with the almost obligatory for a game and smartphone a light up, led elements here around the back there's. Thankfully, none of that RGB three here on the red, magic 6r, and you can grab the 6r in two different colors. This is the silver model, but you can also grab it in black if you're, uh, you're kind of like batman, you prefer your darker hues and the button placement has changed up quite a bit for the red magic 6r as well.

The power button is still in the same place, but as you can see, the volume rockers move to the right edge, whereas you had vents on the original red magic 6. For that internal fan, you do still get those trigger buttons here on the red magic 6r. But if you flip around to the other side, you'll see that the little game space switch here on the original 6 is unfortunately missing in action on the race and model and yeah. The 6r is a bit skinnier than the original 6, but 4s you do have that rather button camera chassis, whereas the originals was almost flush with the surface and when you come to stick, your sim inside you've got a choice of two different slots in that dual sim setup. It's having no space for a micro, SD memory card to expand the 128 or 256 gigs of internal storage, all right red magic 6 are all set up ready for action and what you got here, certainly as far as the software's concerned.

Very similar experience to the standard red magic 6, it's android 11, of course, but on top of that you've got slathered the red magic OS version, 4.0 and, as you can see, this adds in extra random bits, like sponsored ads in the notifications, not ideal, exactly definitely be getting rid of that also changes up the general look and vibe. Of course, you've got your red magic wallpapers, in the background of which you have a small selection to choose between it's a very stylistic app icon action going on as well, thankfully, not too much in the way of crap ware pre-installed on here. Just a few uh red magic apps, like the sound recorder, you've got the next word browser, but certainly nowhere near as bad as the likes of what you get on a Xiaomi smartphone and because the red magic 6r is such a beast. It's definitely great to see. You've got a proper, dedicated, one-handed mode as well to have you reach up to that top end of the screen when needed and plenty of other bonus features tucked away in that settings menu as well, quite a few of which are, of course, as you would expect, gaming related, and so I'll touch on those when we actually get some mention on the go and, of course, all the features you would expect all present and correct here on the red magic.

Six are the likes of NFC for your contactless payments. As far as connectivity goes, you've got 5g support, thanks to that snapdragon 888 with its built-in and modem. You've also got Wi-Fi 6e support as well, and if you've got a bit of extra cache display, you can upgrade the 128 gigs of UFS 3.1 storage to 256 gigs for double the space, especially good. If you're going to be downloading massive games like gentian impact, which is pretty much 10 gigs by its frigging self, especially there's. No micro, SD support here now.

Let's check out that display, and it's a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen very similar to the original red magic 6. But just slightly smaller, that said, unfortunately, the selfie cam is right there on the display right in the central position similar to recent Samsung smartphones, rather than hidden away in that top bezel like it was on the original red magic six. So we'll slightly intrude on the action. It's a full HD plus resolution. So despite the rather spacious panel uh, those visuals come through and nice and crisp the OLED tech means the colors are nice and punchy uh.

You do have vivid mode set by default. You can bump that down to a more natural mode, if you prefer more lifelike visuals Anubis was a bit vague on whether there was actually any HDR 10 support here on the red, magic 6 or like the original. Certainly Netflix reckons there's no HDR capabilities right now, but that might just be that it's not supported in that app just, yet that's for the refresh rate. Well, the red magic 6-0 tops off at 144 hertz, so not quite as strong as the 165 hertz effort of the original red magic six. But let's face it.

My Navajo peepers can't really tell the difference once you get to that sort of level. This still proves buttery smooth for any supported, apps, most of which top off at 120 frames per second right now anyway, and sadly, no there's no stereo speakers set up here in the red magic 6-0, which is definitely a shame. I really like my gaming smartphones to give you that sort of stereo effects. You don't have to be plugging in headphones all the time and, of course, there's no headphone jack, either boo, hiss etc. But thankfully Nubia hasn't had a skim when it comes to the performance, because the red magic 6r is once again powered by Qualcomm's flagship mobile platform, the snapdragon 888, which was launched, of course, until end of last year, and that's backed here by either eight or 12 gigs of ddr5 ram and, as I mentioned before.

Sadly, no slider switch to quickly activate that game space feature. So what you'll have to do is basically just start up a game and then, when it do, you'll get this little option down below which you'll have to quickly tap because otherwise it'll bugger off. Otherwise, thankfully you can just pull down the notifications bar during the game and also there is a game space option in there. So, as you can see, that's now turned on and then at any point during the game, you can swipe from the edge here and, as you can see, there, you'll pull up the game space menu which, as far as I can see, seems to be exactly the same as on that standard red magic. Six.

So for first, as you can see exactly how much pressure has been put on your CPU and your GPU as well as your network, you can change up the screen brightness in a jiffy, as well as the refresh rate. If you find yourself playing a real resource guzzling hardcore title on those top details, settings likes gaining impact. Well, you've got the game, enhancement feature which you can use to get a bit of. GPU, turbo action on the go or just go for all out super performance. You've got some other handy features in here as well, such as the aim and assist as well.

So, for instance, if you don't have any kind of reticle there in the center of your screen, you can add one yourself: you can make it different. Colors all kinds of stuff you've also got the likes, the hunting mode as well, which inverts the colors which can help you to pick out any sneaky little gates, hiding away in the scenery somewhere. In the background, you could also record the action for posterity. You've got your macro feature all kinds of stuff to play around with definitely highly recommend blocking messages. If you don't want to be distracted at all and blocking calls as well and then, of course, you've got the shoulder trigger feature as well, which is highly recommended for fast-paced action games like Call of Duty mobile.

All you need to do is drag the left and the right buttons to exactly where you want them. So, for instance, left button for aim right button for fire. We've got vibration feedback on as well and now should be able to aim with that left trigger button, as you can see there and fire with the right. So I did a good bit of gaming with gentian impact jacked up to the maximum detail. Settings set at 60 frames per second as well in game bench.

I set the performance modes to max as well to sort of give it a fight and chance the screen seems reasonably responsive. We've got a 360 hertz multi-touch sampling rate, similar to the original red magic. Six. I did find in Call of Duty mobile. I did actually have to bump up the screen sensitivity a little because I didn't find it was quite as fast as I liked it, but in generation impact no such worries and the performance when playing games and impact was certainly absolutely fine on those maxed out sends at least it was for about sort of 25 to 30 minutes, didn't notice any drops in that frame rate, nice and silky smooth, even during intense combat, during which I occasionally got my ass handed to me.

Admittedly, however, once we hit around 25-30 minutes, the phone was really starting to get very hot, indeed, especially up towards the top end, and that's when I noticed that the frame rate was starting to drop, as confirmed by the game bench benchmark until I was running in the background. In fact, things started to seriously slow down to the point where I had to actually bump down the diesel settings. Turn it off that performance mode to try and allow the phone to cool down a little. Anubis has stuffed plenty of coolant. Smarts inside the red magic at six saws, you've got a viper chamber, you've got copper, heat sinks you've got thermal gel and unfortunately, unlike the standard red magic, six and the very best gaming smartphones out there, the coolant tech just can't keep up with the performance when something as demanding as gen chin impact on this max detail.

Setting comes along, so you will notice some serious throttling. Of course, this is quite an extreme scenario. You know you can still play game, changing impact, absolutely fine on just the standard detail, settings without overheating and absolutely booking the red, magic, 6r and, of course, games like Call of Duty pub gall that kind of stuff play like a dream and as always, I really enjoyed those shoulder triggers as well, which really helped out when gaming only likes a call of duty, gentian impact anything where fast-paced action is involved. You got 400 hertz response rate in there, so next to zero latency, you can even tinker with the pressure sensitivity in that game space menu as well to get them set up exactly the way you like. As for the battery.

Well, it's a 4 200 William cell stuffed inside the red magic 6r, which is significantly smaller than the 5 000 William battery, crammed inside the very big bollocks red magic. Six. Now, if you filled the red magic six hours battery, so it was a hundred percent and then played a good bit against you on this top detail. Settings you'll find that that battery will be drained in about two hours, but of course that was with game space's performance mode. Maxed out as well, so if you just pin the likes of pub g called unimobile, you don't need to get that sort of serious grunt on the go.

That means you'll get much longer battery life. If you do find that you're running out of juice, where you've got 30 watt fast charging on the red magic 6r, which ain't too shabby you've, also got the charge separation feature built into game space as well, which allows you to plug in the phone and keep it juiced up without actually charging the battery at the same time to help prevent the overheating from being quite so bad, and the camera tech has changed up a little for this race and model as well, compared with the original red magic 6. So what you've got here is a 64 megapixel, Sony mix 682 sensors, but it does shoot at 16 megapixels by default, you've got the usual AI smarts HDR filters. All of that good stuff. You can also switch to pro mode if you want to have a fiddle about like the white balance, the ISO levels, all that good stuff and as well as that 64 megapixel primary sensor.

You've also got an 8 megapixel ultra-wide angle effort as well. If you want to shoot a very different view, point plenty of other bonus modes as well, including of course, the obligatory night mod for shooting your low-light shots and a bit of portrait mode action as well, which uses the 2-megapixel depth of field sensor to just help provide a nice bit of Bucky action. In the background. You've even got a 5 megapixel macro lens on here as well. If you want to get really up close to your subject and as you can see there, bugger tons of other bonus features pretty much everything you could possibly ever dream and hope for and if you switch to the video mode, it's in full HD resolution by default, you can actually switch that all the way up to 8k believe it or not recommended for outdoor use.

Otherwise, you've also got 4k at 30 or 60 fps and then around front. You've got a basic 16, megapixel selfie shooter as well, which would be absolutely fine for your every day uh snaps. Of course, you can do a bit of portrait mode action with this as well to blur out the background. Just don't forget to, of course, turn off the old watermark, because that's always a pin in the ass and also don't like to talk and look gormless when shooting a selfie and to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't expect too much from the red magic oz, camera tech. It's usually an afterthought at best on gaming smartphones.

So it should be all right for everyday snaps as long as you're, obviously mindful of your environment, make sure you've got a decent amount of light and all that so that, in a nutshell, is the new Nubia red magic, 6r 6 racing gaming smartphone, as you can see some pretty solid specs for 429 quid the fact that you've got snapdragon, 88 chipsets, packed in there good luck finding that in many of the smartphones at all around this mid-range price point you've got a great screen on there. All kinds of gaming features packed on there as well, of course uh. So definitely, if you are a gamer uh on a bit of a tighter budget, can't quite stretch up to the standard red magic, six likes the black shark pros uh or the rogue phones, of course, then definitely could be an option just be mindful that it is limited. Despite that snapdragon 88, the coolant tech can't quite keep up with the likes of benching impact on those maxed out detail settings. So that's my thoughts anyway, be great to hear thoughts down in the comments below.

Please do put subscribe ding that notifications bell and have yourselves a fine rest of the week, cheers everyone loves you. You.
