Remember that famous company Motorola well they're back with a brand-new smartphone, and this is it the Motorola edge plus, and I've, been using this for a couple of weeks now so in this video I'm going to be sharing with you. My experiences with this device here on em Juan reviews. So this is the Motorola edge plus it's Motorola's attempt at competing in a pretty cramped environment already, but it's an interesting device. It's good to see. Motorola renowned, smartphone manufacturer come and try and compete in this space. Now I want to start this video off by talking about the design, because that's the first thing that really stood out to me about the Motorola edge plus.
To begin with, that display, you've got a beautiful six point: seven inch OLED display it's a 1080 resolution with 385 PPI, and it's a display that really, really pops. It's got a 90 Hertz refresh rate to it and there's a really cool feature which will allow you to use it in auto mode. Essentially, I mean it will switch between 60 or 90 Hertz, but for the purposes of my review, I've used this throughout with 90 Hertz, and it's a really, really beautiful panel. It really pops, and it's very hard to show on camera just how vibrant this display is now sticking to that display. One of the things that you'll notice is that the display does curve over that's where you get the name edge+ now.
This display does look nice, but I can't help but feel that this display is actually quite an old display. Now this is the kind of display that we would have seen a year ago, perhaps even a year and a half ago. A lot of manufacturers now are moving away from this over curved display, because, although it looks nice, it can be a nightmare when you have it in the hand in terms of unwanted touch, gestures, I was getting a lot of those both in out, but also on the home screen. Now Motorola have incorporated some software tweaks there to help prevent this, but I certainly notice this a lot more with the device. One of the other things to note is that, on the top, the top left-hand side, you have a cutout for the front facing camera and below the display.
You also have a fingerprint scanner. Now. This fingerprint scanner is really easy to set up, but it's also reliable as well. So I had no issues there whatsoever, so both the front and the back is guerrilla glass 5. And what is interesting is that sandwiched between an aluminum frame now it doesn't feel cheap at all.
It feels quite premium and sturdy in the hand, and you also have a power button on the right hand, side next to a volume rocker. The left is completely flushed and then check this right at the top. You have a three-and-a-half millimeter headphone jack, which is quite unusual to see for a flagship device in 2020, which is actually quite nice as well now down at the bottom. You have an SD card slot with the USB charging port and an out firing speaker. Incidentally, those speakers on this device really surprised me because they are very, very good.
Overall, sound quality is perfect, and you're going to notice. Quite a balanced, sound for multimedia and also for gaming as well. Now, one of the really unusual things about the design here is that, on the back, you've got quite a camera setup of some unusual reason. It doesn't sit very flat on the table now. I understand that you know camera bumps do that, but on this device really couldn't stay still.
Next, let's talk about performance, so this runs the snapdragon 865 chipsets. This has a 5g capabilities. So if you're looking for a 5g ready, smartphone, then the Motorola edge plus is perfect to go. It also has 12 gigabytes of RAM with the Adrian 650 GPU. That total combination means that you get a very powerful device for the full time that I was using the Motorola edge plus I noticed absolutely zero in terms of lag issues when multitasking playing games.
Graphic intensive games like nothing whatsoever, which is a perfect positive sign now inside it also runs Android ten, and it has this kind of Motorola skin. On top of it, it's a very stuff, like Android experience, with some minor twists like gestures. Is this really cool one where you double flip it? If you like to bring up the camera, tiny sort of tweaks that are tastefully done, so I think from a UI element. Most people will be really happy with this. There's, absolutely no bloatware, so to speak, so you're getting a very close like Android experience so sticking to internals.
This has a whopping five thousand William hour battery the battery life on this device is perfect. Someone like news and intensive user was getting just over a day and a half worth of use I think most people will be able to stretch that, particularly if you lower that refresh rates or sixty Hertz but check this, it supports fast charging up to 18 watts, and it also has reverse wireless charging up to five watts, and this is great if you have accessories, and you want to charge them on the go, but Motorola have included an absolutely lousy five watt charger right out of the box, so it means it takes forever to charge up the device if you were to use that particular charges. So something to be aware of next. Let's talk about the old important camera, because on this we have a pretty impressive quad camera setup. It's made up of a hundred and eight megapixel F 1.8 main sensor and an 8 megapixel F 2.4 for the telephoto we're three times: optical zoom and optical image, stabilization and then a 16 megapixel F 2.2 ultra-wide. Finally, you have a time-of-flight 3d for the depth.
Now, in total, the cameras work together to produce some pretty consistent images, particularly in normal lighting, between ultra-wide all the way up to maximum zoom color accuracy. Is there it's vibrant, sometimes slightly overexposed on the greens and the blues, but for the most part in normal lighting, I think it does an excellent job. There's all the details that you would come to expect. Incidentally, if you want to use that main sensor it by default, it bins those images down, save on file size. But if you really want to use that 108 megapixel main sensor, then you can- and you will get some results that really do have a lot of detail in them, as you can see here now in terms of the camera app itself.
This is really odd because the camera app could do in my opinion, with some improvement. It's quite it takes multiple steps to get to certain functions and features. If you look on the side, you'll notice that you have multiple zoom and on first glances, you'd assume that those would be fixed zoom, but in fact, in order to zoom in further, you actually have to pinch to zoom now in low-light. This is something that you'll notice ultra-wide suffers a little, but the other images taken with the standard night mode actually do produce some good results. Video on this is very interesting because you have 6k at 30 frames per second.
Some results from video are actually pretty decent, so this is a little test of what the video quality looks like here. Let's see this building work going on over here, quite a lot of dynamic range as well I'm, just going to walk around give you an idea of what stabilization is like seems to do a reasonable job in terms of accuracy, colors vibrancy as well. It's quite bright today. Let me know what you think of the quality. This will only allow you to take 6 K in 1 X.
So if you want to use 6 K but ultra-wide, we won't be able to do that. You also get 4k at 30 frames per second, and then you get 1080p at 30, 60 or 120 frames per second as well. Now, on the front, you have a selfie camera, that's a twenty-five megapixels F 2.0 selfie camera and that will record video at 1080 at 30 or 128 frames per second and I. Think for the most part, the front-facing selfie camera does a good job. So that's the device in summary, I mean I.
Think it's a perfect all-round device, but there's an important question to ask here and that is half Motorola succeeded in launching and giving us a good flagship, Android smartphone I think for the most part they have particularly with the Motorola edge plus, but it's up against some really, really tough competition. When you factor in the price, the Motorola one for the edge Plus, which in this market is three thousand 999 Durhams that equates to just under around about $900. It really puts it squarely in the space up against some other flagship, Android smartphones, and it's got a lot of competition there. So if I was to take the device on its own I like the display I like the camera I like the battery life I like the build quality and I, also like the fact that it has a very stock like Android experience, but is it worth that price ultimately I think it's worth asking yourself whether you're willing to pay the price with what you'll get with the Motorola edge, plus I'd love to know your thoughts so feel free to leave your comments down below?
