Hey everyone Hudson here welcome to the world of ha. Today I have a very special unboxing video for you. This is the new 2020 iPad Pro 4th generation. Here it is the 12.9 inch space, gray, very, very excited about it and the Apple Pencil 2 as well. So I decided that I was going to upgrade. I have as I've done a video of in the past, the second generation iPad Pro 12.9 inch. This is the uh 2017 uh release.
This came out, 2017. Um and it's a solid device. I'm not going to lie. I think this iPad is um is pretty great um, but there are some enhancements to the new iPad that I definitely wanted to check out uh for a couple of reasons. One being this uses face as touch ID.
The new iPad face ID uh, this Apple Pencil charges down here, and it's kind of awkward new Apple Pencil magnetic plus they release the new magic keyboard, which I did order, but it's arriving in a couple of weeks, so I'll be doing a second video with the magic keyboard when it arrives, but I'm excited about all that, so I thought it was worth me upgrading. So here it is, and we're going to do an unboxing video. So before we get to the main event, let's just jump into the Apple Pencil, real quick since it's right here um. This is sort of the appetizer before the meal um. I do like the Apple Pencil.
I use it um, sometimes especially for taking notes for work. Furthermore, I actually use it with my iPad Mini now. This Apple Pencil is not compatible with the iPad Mini 5 um. So I still have my old one for the data iPad Mini, but here it is and as it mentions, it attaches magnetically right there and uh yeah. Let's, let's check this thing out.
I definitely do like the way that it feels when you're you're writing with it. Like. I think it's its definitely um a pretty solid product, and I'm excited about the improvements they've made to the way that you charge it, because it's so awkward on the old model, um, definitely uh. Let's see, is there anything of note in here, probably not just probably standard stuff. So let's just jump straight to the pencil.
Let's take off this plastic here and uh. Here we go. This is the new iPad pencil. Well, it's not technically new. It's been out for at least a year.
I just didn't get it until now um, but here it is, so it does say, Apple Pencil right there really nice, I will say um immediately. The first thing, that's obviously very noticeable is the flat edge on one side which allows for a really nice feeling grip. Definitely so that right there already is better and second on the old iPad Apple Pencil. So the other thing that you'll notice is this one's a little longer on the old one, because you had the little connector, the lightning connector. This thing I would periodically drop and lose, and now this little piece inside comes out and stuff, so I don't have to worry about that.
I don't have to worry about losing the cap, because it's all just one piece since it magnetically charges now so gone are the days of basically. This is how you charge it for those that don't know um sticking out the iPad now granted. I live with it because it's not it's not a dealbreaker in the sense that, like it, charges really fast. So if I do need to charge it I'll like to plug it into my desk at work for, like you know, five or ten minutes- and I got you know plenty of charge right, so it charges really fast um, and I'm still going to have to use this on my iPad Mini, but at least I don't have to worry about it now right. So that's the first thing right there, the Apple Pencil, so we'll put that to the side and take a look at the Apple Pencil with the new iPad.
Once I open that up, so let's jump right to that next, so here it is in all its glory. Um the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro. They didn't change the design since last year, except for, I think, like the camera, module and stuff which we'll take a look at uh, because this has the LIDAR sensor and everything um, but I have the old iPad that has touch ID, so this will be a change for me at least so, like I said uh, this is the 12.9 inch fourth generation Wi-Fi model. I got the 256 gigabyte, which is what I have on my current iPad Pro as well, and the difference this charges via USB. Unlike my current iPad, which is still lightninged so starting to transition to more and more USB-C around the house, I have the 16-inch MacBook Pro as well, and that's you know obviously USB-C so um, the more that uses that I think that will be better all right here.
We go, try and slide this out boom. Oh man, I love the big screen on the 12.9, like the 12.9 inch display it's great. I love it um. It do you know uh, you can watch like movies and HDR, and it's super nice, but man I'm looking forward to having the same screen but a little of a smaller form factor. That's going to be real nice.
So before we jump into that, let's just grab all the other stuff inside you have your standard. Things included your Apple logo, stickers, um, and then you have your charger right here. Okay, this is a how many watt charger uh. Does it say I don't think I see it on there. I don't know if I'm missing it um.
Well, it's whatever charger comes with the iPad Pro, I guess uh. Does it say on the back of the box. It might say it doesn't say I don't know. Maybe I don't know well it's this size, iPad charger. I don't know if they make a fast charger or not.
I suppose I could use my MacBook charger and see if that charges it faster or not, but um, because apple tends to not include fast chargers with their devices but all right and then, of course you have your USB cable right here for charging. So pretty standard stuff. So let's move this out of the way, move the wires out of the way and get to the main event. Oh man, this already just feels real nice. So there's the improved or the new camera model, which is on the uh, the latest iPhone the 11 pro max and pro, and all that um, the uh, which I don't have.
I have the 10s max, but this year later this year, when I upgrade I'll have the whatever new camera model module is on that one. So, let's, oh man now that looks real good. So there we have the space gray model right here. I do want to quickly grab something for comparison, and that is my 16-inch MacBook Pro um. Let me see if there's a way I can do this.
I guess I'll prop this up right there. So there's my MacBook Pro it's upside down. Let's fix that um! So in case you have the 16-inch MacBook Pro or something, and you want to be able to do a size comparison here. It is right there aren't they both. I thought I had a space gray one of this.
This is definitely darker, it's darker than what I was expecting um. I wonder if I did. I order the right color, I'm pretty sure, with space gray, because this is the uh yeah. This is like what I have for my MacBook Pro uh, which I thought was space gray, but apparently it wasn't, so that's definitely different from what I was expecting, but I will double-check and see, but this is the uh. It still looks nice, though so I don't mind but um just kind of little different from what I was than what I was expecting so um.
There's that size comparison so now let me move that away all right. Well here it is um, there's already so much like dust and stuff on it yeah. This is definitely really, really nice. It's just it's all pretty much almost all screen right like there's no buttons or anything right there. It's just it's all screen like that's! That's so nice um! So now you have your USB connector, your speakers right there um the uh um like smart connector, your volume buttons and then the lock button right there, as well with speakers and then the back.
You have the little connector Apple logo and then the camera module right here with the LIDAR sensor and everything. So that is actually real, nice and so the idea is. How does this work? Does this just yeah? So I guess it that it's this. Maybe this is the the. So this is the magnet for the Apple Pencil.
So that's how you charge the Apple Pencil now, which is real nice. Look how convenient and easy that is so, whether you know, whichever way you're watching stuff with this thing, is charging it's right there with you, whether you put it this way or flip it the other way. You know it all connects and works, and that's super convenient, so that is the new Apple Pencil um. So let's just open this thing up real, quick, I'm not going to go through the whole setup process, but just uh see what it looks like. Let's see if there's any juice in this thing um and try and get this thing turned on.
So let me see what I can start to set up, and then we'll check in after this all right, so the iPad has been set up. It's currently restoring things from the back of my old iPad um, one quick note uh in between I. I did check on something because the space gray, color was kind of throwing me off the fact that it's a darker shade of space gray. Apparently, when apple uses, space gray uh, they are not consistent in their actual colors. So space gray on the 16-inch MacBook Pro is more of a lighter color kind of silverfish color, whereas space gray on the iPad Pro is this sort of darker color a little.
So keep that in mind? It's not the exact same shade. So if you want like consistency amongst your devices, that is going to be an important thing to note. I don't care too much. I think it still looks great. The other option is, they do have a silver one, but I don't know how that compares to the space gray MacBook Pro if it's lighter or not.
I'm sticking with what I got, but just keep that in mind. I did want to address that they are both space gray on the Apple website, but they're different shades of space gray. So I have the two iPads right here, and I wanted to do a little comparison, um of the two side by side. If I can somehow oops fit them all in front of the camera possibly um, are they fitting I'm trying to see? Okay, I think they are um. Let me see if I can just kind of set them there for just for a second there we go okay, so, as you can see, obviously the main difference is the screen itself.
If I, if I am to try and lift this up slightly, it's a little hard to tell, but the screen is the same size, so let me put it down. The big difference is the bezels are shorter, smaller because there's no button, that's needed there um, and so you have a what looks to be like a wider, ranging screen, but it's the same screen size, smaller form factor, makes it a little more portable, which is very, very nice, um and so uh. You know when you close it again. This is sort of the difference there uh looking at it at a glance comparing the two like thinness-wise um, you can start to see a little more of the differences, so the other big design difference, there's a couple of things that have been moved around, whereas this little smart connector is on the side of the old iPad. It's at the bottom um of uh- or I guess, on the other or on the back here, there's this little connector here.
So they kind of move things around. But also, if you look at the old iPad Pro, have these little curved edges right, whereas the new one is all just the sort of flat edges all the way around which I actually kind of like. I think it looks real slick. Um- and I do appreciate that, so I definitely like the new design of this uh, this iPad Pro in comparison um, but this is it I mean it's all screen the other nice thing, because there's no button, you can just tap to wake it, and then you just swipe up, and you're you're good to go um, and so that's actually really, really cool um. I do appreciate that so um, that's it.
Basically we are. We are this. Is this? Is the new iPad um there's not too much more too really? You know say about it right now, specifically just because I have to kind of use it and see how it is, I'm sure. Obviously the standard stuff is gonna. It's its faster um.
I know you do. I guess, with the camera, there's a couple differences where you have the uh, the wide angle lens. So you have the standard 1x uh zoom, but then you have the wide angle, which is on the iPhone 11. Um, but I don't have the 11. So this is the uh, the only device where I currently have this sort of wider view, which is pretty cool um but otherwise yeah I mean it works pretty well, um, there's this is the new iPad Pro which I'm very, very excited about.
Uh. Let me see if I can just pair the Apple Pencil to it real quick. So I connected the Apple Pencil. Oh, it just popped up on the side. Look at how easy that is continued, double tap on the Apple Pencil to switch between the tool you're using and the eraser, which is very helpful.
Oh, can I try that, let's see so use my Apple Pencil, I'm drawing right. I don't know if you can see that let's draw something else and double tap. Oh, wow! That's actually really easy. I almost don't even notice it like there's no feedback or anything it just does it so hello. Stop popping asking me for my password um all right.
Sorry, I can't show you, because I have to keep black out the screen, because it keeps asking me for my password for my email um, but basically you get the idea for you. You can easily oh, come on all right. Well, you get the idea. I can't, I'm not going to try and enter in all my email and stuff right now, but uh that's actually really, really cool. It actually works, really well uh, which I appreciate and as soon as you plug it in I don't know.
If you saw that as well, it pops up right at the top. Let me see if I can show you here- Apple Pencil and the battery right there, which is very, very cool, so anyways, that's pretty much if I'm going to go finish, setting this thing up, um and yeah. Let me know in the comments below, if you have the new iPad Pro or what your thoughts are on this device as well. I will do another follow-up video in a few weeks when the magic keyboard arrives. So I can test that out and show you all what that's like, and then I'll give you an update on my impressions during that video, as well after using it for a few weeks, but I'm excited about it.
It definitely looks really cool and uh yeah. This is pretty great. So that's it. Thank you all so much for watching as always take care, and I will see you later- you.
