iPad Pro 2021 - M1 Performance On A Tablet // Unboxing and Review

This is my iPad 3 from 2012, and it is still fast, responsive and in good shape, and that's the thing about the iPads they kind of last for a really long time. But whenever apple comes out and compares iPads to computers, we don't agree that much because in most cases an iPad compared to a laptop is more towards an iPhone than a Mac computer. But I think that's about to change. This. Is the fifth generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro compared to the previous generation. It has the m1 chip that is in apple's latest computers, a 5g cellular connection that is capable of insane speeds, especially when you're at the right spot, a thunderbolt, slash, USB 4 port that you can use to connect this to a 6k pro display, MTR, a new ultra-wide angle, front facing camera that brings back walking and talking during calls and the brand new Dr screen that is powered over 10 000 mini LEDs, which gives this device a crazy bright screen.

So I guess the question is: what's a computer? No I'm just kidding. The question is: is this 5th generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro any good, and here it is 12.9 inch. iPad pro comes in this nicely designed box inside the box, we're greeted with iPad Pro itself, some papers' sim card ejector. If you have the cellular model, stickers, 1 meter, USB, cable, 20, watt, USB power adapter instead of 18 and that's pretty much it iPad Pro has the same dimensions as the previous generation. Apart from the 5g antenna cuts, it has the same look, but it's a little heavier.

Let's begin with performance hold on to something, because this thing is flying this 12.9 inch fifth generation iPad Pro has eight core CPU in it. Four of them are high performance. Four of them are high efficiency. It has eight core GPU and 16 core neural engines, and if you get this with storage up to 512 gigabytes, you get eight gigabytes of ram and above that, with one terabyte and two terabytes, you get 16 gigabytes of ram. So this is very much like a m1 computer, the old iMac, the previous generation.

One only had 6 gigabytes of ram in it. The geek bench 5 pro score shows us that this device blows the previous generation away when we look at the compute score and one iPad Pro is once again far ahead. So let's go ahead and export a 3.7 gigabyte, 4k 12, minute, move video file and just for funsies, let's add a filter on top of it. M1 iPad Pro finishes the task in 7 minutes and 21 seconds, which is 1 minute and 35 seconds faster than the 4th generation iPad Pro. So this thing is fast, very fast, usually between each generation of products, we see a smaller performance increase, but this is nothing like that.

The performance difference also can be seen in regular things too, for example, when it comes to updating the iPadOS m1 iPad Pro finish, the test four minutes faster. That is why 12.9-inch iPad Pro has a bigger battery in it. A 40.88 watt hour battery compared to last generation's 36.71, which kind of explains the price increase of 12.9-inch iPad Pro as well, because you're no longer getting a tablet. That is a little faster than an iPhone you're, getting a tablet with serious processing power. So 12.9-inch iPad Pro is 100 more expensive up to 512 gigabytes compared to the previous generation, and if you want to get the cellular version instead of 150 more now, you pay 200 dollars more, but when it comes to one terabyte version that difference goes up to 300 and from uh one terabyte to two terabytes. The price difference is four hundred dollars, which is very interesting because it is exactly what you see when you want to customize your m1 mac.

The screen on iPad Pro is extremely bright and has a great contrast ratio. What that means is the blacks are pitch black and the brights are blinding bright to achieve that apple used. This new technology called mini LEDs. This is a display technology. We've been waiting for a while, and it can be a perfect alternative to all it.

Now, let's grab our light meter and see how bright these screens are when auto brightness is turned on 4th generation. iPad pro is at 571, lux 5th generation. iPad pro is at 621 lux when we turn auto brightness off 4th generation. iPad pro goes up to 683 lux and the fifth generation iPad Pro goes to 725 lux and when we turn on a HDR video, fourth generation iPad, pro stays at 678 lux. Meanwhile, fifth generation iPad Pro goes up to 1250 lux now.

Here's the interesting part if we put a black image on the screen and turn the brightness all the way up. Fourth generation iPad Pro gives us 1.6 lux and, as you can imagine fifth generation iPad Pro gives us 0 locks when it comes to flickering mini LED screen is not as flicker free as the regular LED screen, but compared to OLED. It is much better and so far it hasn't triggered my ocular migraine. I also don't think it will talk about screens. This machine has a thunderbolt port, which means I can connect this to a thunder ball display.

I can actually connect this to my Dr display and start working with two screens at the same time. Right now, not a lot of apps support this, but there are some hints here and there, so I'm guessing in time. This is gonna, be a really effective way to use your iPad. Even more efficiently, also, when you go into your iPad settings, you can find some special settings for the display it is connected to thunderbolt. Display also means I can connect my thunderbolt external storage to this device, which is great news in case you don't know, these NVMe external drives are extremely fast they're, almost as fast as the new internal storage we have on these Apple devices.

It even recognizes the encryption on your external drive. Talking about speed, let's go and check out the 5g connection. Okay, now I found a spot with 5g ultra-wide band and let's go to our speed test and see how fast it is. Let's see if it makes the cut by the way it's getting more and more common. As far as I can see, yeah, not bad, not bad.

It's this has to do it. I guess this will do it, it's okay, all right now. What I want to do is I want to go into my files, and there must be a file in here that I waited to download. It is the three gigabytes mac pro review, and it's downloading down to one gigabyte. Yep and it's here, it's downloaded three gigabytes just like that perfect.

Okay, the front facing camera on this iPad is now 12 megapixels, and it has an ultra-wide angle lens, and it has a new feature called center stage and using center stage. What it does is. It just puts you in the center of the stage, because it's such a wide angle lens, if you try to go out of the frame, just follows your app. You can do crazy stuff and try to lose it, but it can still find you and, and what you can do is you can come really close to the lens, and it zooms out as much as it can to have. You feel the frame, so you can create that scene from ace, Ventura.

Well, he's looking for the dolphin and when someone else comes next to me and doesn't necessarily be in the frame it zooms out to have that person in the frame as well. Let's see if I go here: oh yeah, oh yeah, but if I go over here, though, what if I'm like? Who do you like more? Who do you like you, like your mother or your father? No pressure, no pressure. I just feed you yeah, look how wide that is island and, as you can see, you have the option to turn it on or off. Here you can turn it off, however, when it comes to photo and video quality. The 12 megapixel front-facing camera on this iPad is still not good enough compared to the iPhones, and if you want to shoot in portrait mode, you can only use the front-facing camera.

It doesn't let you use the rear cameras, but it has the smart hdr3. It doesn't have Dolby Vision, but it has a standard range up to 4k 30 frames per second. The thing about the iPad is: you can just get the iPad itself and start using it you're probably going to love it. But when you want more from your iPad, you can always go back and, for example, get the Apple Pencil and this will open up a brand-new door to what you can do with the iPad. And then, if you want more, you can go and get a keyboard like this.

This is apple's magic keyboard for the iPad, and it just snaps in there and gives you an extra port for charging. So you get to keep your port for other connections and this white one looks beautiful. It reminds me of that 2006 mac books, remember those old white mac books reminds me of that one. So, in the end, in my opinion, this is the first iPad that entered the Mac computer area. Actually, this device is so powerful, so capable and so good that it made me look at the regular computers a little differently.

It's like seeing a Commodore 64 with its cassette player today, and I believe, if not this one, the next one may very well be the device I mainly use instead of a traditional computer. Well, thank you very much for watching this episode and I hope you enjoyed it, but, as usual, what I think doesn't matter what matters is what you think. What do you think about this new 12.9-inch iPad Pro? Please, let me know in the comment section below and until I see you next time take perfect care of yourselves and host chocolate. You.
