Introducing The Sony Xperia 5 ii 5G Compact, Built For Speed, Great Cameras (Xperia 5 Mark 2)

Sarah everybody and welcome back to the channel today we're going to check out the brand new Sony, Xperia 5 mark ii, the sequel to the Sony, Xperia 5 that we saw last year with a lot of optimizations, one of which is the one I'm actually using right. Now, I'm using the audio jack to be able to get an audio input directly from the microphone that I have on me and, of course, we're using the HDMI out to be able to show you guys this nice little monitor kind of on the go setup that I like to use with it to be able to shoot video with the new system on cinema pro. This is TK, and this is the Sony Xperia 5 mark ii like and subscribe and make sure you hit that bell icon, so you're always notified to whenever we have new videos on the channel, so we finally have the brand new Xperia 5 mark ii, I'm going to say this right off the bat uh. The fact that they kept at the same form factor as the first Xperia 5 from last year is definitely a very appreciative feature because we actually do need somewhat more experience with the same form factor. We don't necessarily need to have the larger bigger brother. So what we have here is the Xperia one mark ii, and now we have the Xperia 5 mark ii, exact same dimension, pretty much the exact same feel as you had with the Xperia 1 mark ii.

It's a glass on glass experience with pretty much a lot of improvements that we've wanted on a Xperia and actually some things that we even asked for Sony when it was coming to the actual Xperia one mark ii. So the Xperia 5 mark ii has a much better faster display at 120, hertz uh. We have a lot of the similarities and basically front-facing speakers. Now we brought in the headphone jack a lot of cool things that we've been waiting for from Sony uh, obviously on the Xperia line, the triple camera setup that we have on the back is pretty much the same one. We have on the Sony, Xperia one mark ii, so three 12 megapixel sensors, the main one well, three different focal lengths, a 16, megapixel sensor, well, 16 millimeter focal length at 24 millimeter focal length and a 70 millimeter focal length um.

The 16 millimeter has a basic face detection and autofocus. The 24 millimeter, which is the primary sensor, is going to be basically dual face: detection with auto, focusing as well as is the seven millimeter, which is the wider angle lens that we have here, is going to be basically face. Detection, auto, focusing as well as all is so definitely the best cameras that we have on this device are sitting here on the back. The front-facing camera is an 8 megapixel sensor, pretty much the same. One we've been carrying for basically uh 2020 and 2019 when it comes to Xperia lineup devices.

Now, as far as the backing here, there is no wireless charging like the Xperia one mark ii, and we'll talk a little more about the fact that why that wasn't possible, but not only that also the big improvement that we have here on the battery. We went up to 4 000 milliampere as far as the internal battery from the 3140 that we saw with the Xperia 5. , not only that we went from the 18 watt charging capabilities up to 21 watt, although the charger is in the box that, as I'm showing you guys with the quick unboxing right now, is pretty much the same. It's an 18 watt charger, but if you have a power, delivery, 21 watt charger or higher you'll be able to charge this a little faster and one thing to keep in mind is they do have the battery protection features in here. So we will not get superfast charging, but we'll definitely have much better battery health when it comes to our Sony devices, especially from the Xperia 1 and the Xperia 5 line devices.

The processor that we have in here is the snapdragon 865. With the x55 modem in the US, this will not carry any 5g technology, so it's not enabled to work on either at tor T-Mobile. One thing to keep in mind that if you are using this in the European market, those models will carry 5g or even in the Asian market. So just keep that in mind. As far as the actual uh storage, we have 128 gigs of storage.

We have eight gigs of ram over the six that we had last year, uh, and not only that, of course, uh that you know it's going to be basically starting off with android 10 as opposed to what we saw. The Xperia 5 last year getting upgraded, and we obviously have been promised with an android 11 upgrade to this. As I mentioned to you guys, the cameras that we have here maximum is going to be 1080p 30 frames per second on the front-facing sensor and, if you're using the default camera app with the Sony device that comes with it, maximum will be 40k 30 frames per second, but when we jump into cinema pro or basically the two pro camera tools so photo pro and cinema pro again similar to the way we saw in the 301 mark 5 mark ii, um is essentially where you're able to go to 4k 60 frames per second, but not only that also the ability of jumping in to 4k at up to 120 frames per second for slow motion, no sound, but definitely the experience of using 4k 120 120 frames per second is definitely a unique experience that not even very well flagship devices in 2020. Carry this feature now, of course, within the photo pro we do have right out-of-the-box raw and JPEG support, so where the Xperia one did not have that. But of course, here is this kind of actually mimics exactly the.

I would say the Sony alpha experience that we are expected to use with this device, so we have three camera apps, there's the default camera app, as I mentioned to you guys, and of course we have the photo pro in cinema pro. We have a dedicated button specifically put here that we can program to basically launch here. We can launch the camera pro and I also have the ability of configuring it so that I'm also able to do this. If I press and hold it a little longer, I'm able to launch cinema pro on top, as opposed to basically launching the camera pro. So some nice features there.

We also have a dedicated voice assistant. So this is the Google Assistant non-removable button, uh the power button and the fingerprint sensor are actually housed in the exact same spots here where we had a separate button for the Xperia 5 and, of course, as I'm, showing you guys real quick here, we have the volume rocker on the top. We have the microphone, and you can definitely see some differences between this and the Xperia 5 from 2020. Uh. One thing to mention, though, that the SD card or the sim tray here is a slightly different one, because we actually support up to two uh sim cards on this device, so either two sim cards or a sim card and a SD card to be able to expand 128 gigs of internal storage that we have here so from the storage capability, again expandable with a SD card, which is definitely nice.

Android 10 in the box, a 4 000 milliampere battery NFC support in the back 12 megapixel sensors triple on the back uh. We do not have that time of flight sensor that we have on the Xperia one mark ii, but again, that's mostly intended for portrait imagery, but the auto, focusing basically the burst shot and of continuous autofocusing for humans and for animals is still here and definitely very nice and appreciated. Of course, they all a very nice DAC that supports the headphone jack on this device and the last thing to mention we have an ip65 and ip68 certification on this device for obviously water and dust resistance. Although both of these devices look and pretty much feel the exact same way, honestly, aesthetically they're very close, and you can kind of see a very small amount of more rounding here on the edges. But when it comes to the sensors they're in the same spot, the NFC tags are in the same spot.

We have the same name. Of course, Sony. We have the same number of buttons on the left side, but the difference obviously, is that second button, there is not a power button. It's the assistant button, although just kind of reference you are able to wake up the display with it, but it actually again launches the assistant. So just keep that in mind, uh and unfortunately, currently no option to remap it.

I'm hoping we'll have that option in the future. But again, as I mentioned, they both pretty much occupy the same space. The same 6.1 inch display 60 hertz here, 120 hertz here and, of course, the experience slightly different with the 855, as opposed to the 865. , a nice upgrade and, of course appreciate it for anybody that isn't well. Anybody that enjoys content creation and content consumption on a Sony.

As far as the launcher, it's pretty much. The similar experience, we've seen with Sony, minimal, launcher customizable by pressing and holding you, can change the wallpaper widget home screen settings change it. Basically, notification dots show the Google app, which essentially is swiping to the left very nice and, of course you can add multiple screens and, of course, the app drawer sitting right there. The search bar is present on the bottom. We have the ability of obviously turning on dark mode, as you can imagine, customizing basically the options here so dark theme is off.

You can turn it off and then turn it back on. If you'd, like with the toggle that you have in here, jumping over here uh for the most part, all I have here one account- and it's just asking me to add more stuff. So under the settings we'll notice, we have network and internet which essentially, where you can configure those two sim cards again: 4g LTE in the US, but 5g support in the European market, uh device connection, of course, for NFC Bluetooth and TV connections, appearance. This is where you can customize the wallpapers the ambient display, since we have an always on display- and of course the clock are all customizable within that section. After notifications, you can jump in here and go and customize them and of course, what we can jump in is of course see the brand-new battery here again.21 watt is the maximum charging capacity or a capability that we're able to do, unfortunately, not with the included charger. But if you have another pd charger, that is a higher rating, it will charge at that rate uh.

We do have stamina mode and, of course, apps running adaptive battery and battery percentage. You can turn that on and there, and it also has a feature where, if you're charging the device overnight, that it will actually won't charge it until a specific time, so it almost sets it itself a timer to get to the point where it's able to charge it. So definitely battery care is very nice, so you have an automatic custom always on and of course, it'll also give you this nice little ability of customizing the experience in here. You can turn it on or have it turned on for you by default, very nice and again an upgraded 4000 milliampere battery, as opposed to the 3140 from last year, in the same form factor which could have caused them to actually and, of course they included the headphone jack, so that could have caused the reason why we don't have wireless charging. So for that reason, for me, I prefer a larger battery faster charging and, of course, the headphone jack uh.

If that's basically the compromise, we have to go down the road with as far as the display, we have a few options in here. We have the image quality option where we're able to turn on creator mode or standard mode where it's actually configured correctly. This is not where we're going to be able to turn on and turn off, 120 hertz, but again by default, it's sent to be standard. You have auto creator mode which will launch with whenever you're playing movies and just keep in mind that creator mode is intended to basically play the content in a video format or in an experience the way the video creator initially made. What intended for it the device is a 21x9 aspect ratio which makes it very basically cinematic experience built in.

We, of course, have video and image enhancement. You can turn it on of course, and check it out, and you can kind of see here the different little preview that they give us of what it's supposed to look like. Now, you can have the device in creator mode all the time, but my recommendation would be is just to have the automatic or, if you want to turn it on, you can jump back in right away. We do have the ability of basically customizing the white balance again same thing. We can customize it only when we're able to turn it on so first turn it on go into cool, and you'll notice here that the d65 d61, all the way to d93 are customizable.

If you want to go in, but I prefer to keep my device or the display running as cool more of a cooler temperature to it. Now the refresh rate is pretty simple. You either turn it on or turn it off. So, if you're running at 120 hertz, it's going to be on all the time, and you'll be able to use it in all the different elements that utilize it and what I mean by this essentially is once you have that feature on you're able to actually jump in and use the different experience. So this is kind of a quick, easy way to show you guys that we're running 120, hertz, 120 frames per second um refresh rate on this device and supporting it all the way from 30 60 to 120, very, very nice and very easy, just turn it on and enjoy the content.

As far as the sound, we have Dolby atlas. As far as the configuration for audio settings you can go in, there turn it on the DSE ultimate, as well as the intelligent wind filter. That will also help us in video, which helps us reduce uh, almost like external audio interfaces when interference when we're making videos. Last but not least, you can customize the different options here: sim 1 sim 2, as I mentioned dual sim, if you're not using a SD card and, of course, customizing the rest of the interfaces there, the last few options we have here: privacy, location, security, all the standard accounts you can log in set up accessibility, digital well-being, parental control, standard, google support and under system you're able to basically customize or update your device. It is running android 10.0. As far as the gestures we have the one-handed gestures customizing, you can use them with the buttons or, with the gestures side sense you can activate.

And of course, last but not least, is you have the ability of turning on the ambient display if you'd like to set it up? Having a fast display is only as good as being able to enjoy content at that refresh rate, so jumping into the game enhancer. This is the built-in game system or game app that we have from Sony uh. It automatically recognizes all the applications that I have installed, and you can see. I have a nice little collection of applications, so space racing odyssey, PUBG, of course, asphalt, 8 model combat versus that trigger 2, and I also have asphalt 9, and I'll. Explain to you why I have two different versions of asphalt and that's going to be mostly because of the fish controller that I've been enjoying playing with the device, so you can open it up, and although we have a lot of good customizations done to this device, I'm enjoying playing with it here, because the experience becomes a lot like a gaming console, especially when we have front-facing speakers and great audio and 120 hertz refresh rate on this.

This just begs to be played in this format so asphalt it does support fish, although asphalt 9 did not. So that's the reason why I have a little of a different experience and you guys can actually see that a little when I start talking about the actual gaming experience as I'm showing you guys, some of those b-roll footage that we're looking at right now. So what that means essentially, is that we can launch any of the games here and by the way, if you're, missing a game that you buy has downloaded, and it's not sitting here. You can definitely add it in there, and it works pretty easily. Once you add it, and exactly you can see here with maps, I was actually trying to record some screen-on stuff, and you can obviously add almost every app except for camera applications.

So let's go ahead and turn on PUBG. The game. Enhancer will actually sit pretty much here on the top left. You can customize it to be either a floating window or you can have it just basically be a little bubble or a little basically square. There's a few things we need to know so.

There's focus settings the ability of customizing the different options, so releasing ram hiding notification height calls. This is just normal to be able to disable anything that could potentially uh disrupt your gaming experience the menu option. Here, as I mentioned, you either have the pull down or the button I like to keep it as a pull down. As it hides very nicely. We have the ability of searching for different videos and content that is available for us to be able to see videos related to the content that we're watching.

So this is PUBG. There's a lot of other videos created there on YouTube or on the internet, screenshot, pretty simple, just straightforward. You could just basically acknowledge take it in, and it'll grab the ability of either doing multiple images, one screenshot and, of course, going back to the normal settings, so they have them very nicely, segregated and organized in a way. It's super easy to customize. Recording pretty much follows the exact same.

The only difference here is: we have the ability of customizing it so that we can turn on the front-facing camera. So the 8-megapixel sensor that we have in the front here we can actually record that, at the same time as being in the game, so you're also able to customize the experience when it comes to the audio, basically between game and media volume. Of course, the voice volume, if you decide to actually record the audio with it very easy, very simple and all of it is really accessible simply just swipe down and access it. Now. What I want to talk to you guys a little more, is about the gaming mode and definitely the options that you have in here to be able to customize them out of the box.

Most games will run under a balanced mode and if you change it to whatever option you'd like it definitely remembers it for the next game, as you saw when I turned it on it, automatically went to custom so by default. Balance just gives us access to the normal ballast experience, even though we have 120 frames per second, it is not necessarily forced meaning if the game needs to see, but that the system recognizes it. You do need to turn on a couple more options, so under the custom tab we'll go under settings and there are three options that we can customize here: the ability of customizing the screen refresh rate, so we can force it to go all the way to 120. Now the 240 option here is beside basically where it's talking about the touch sampling rate is up to 240, even though it's 240 sitting there uh the touch screen response speed. Of course, we can go to high medium so, depending on the game that you're playing and, of course, touch tracking.

Definitely all of these you can turn them on. For me, I like to basically just punch it all on high and then go from there, but what I also want to mention to you guys that is the ability of basically customizing the voice-over microphone and, of course, the ability turning on HS power control, now HS power control. Does this nice little function that we saw with the Xperia one mark ii and that's the ability that allows us to power the device with an external cable? So I can run a power to it, as you guys will see in a second with some of those game: experiences that I'm sharing and without necessarily charging the device, which means we don't. We don't actually generate heat while keeping the device charged for extended gaming sessions. Now because we have a headphone jack, which means we have low latency, actually, no latency sound experience.

Obviously we have Bluetooth. We have perfect front-facing speakers that will give us great audio, let's not waste any time. Let me share with you guys a few samples of gaming on the brand new Xperia 5.2 me. Oh, now we did talk about the fact that this is a 6.1 inch display with 21 by 9 aspect ratio, which means that it really is just poised to give you guys, especially when the creator mode turns on here for Netflix the ability of enjoying content in the exact way that the directors or the video producers wanted to produce this video, so definitely very nice. So you can see.

Definitely the colors look perfect and again, if the well, the video that you're watching supports 21x9, it works great. Otherwise, you just need to zoom in on it a little, as I mentioned to you guys earlier. The front-facing speakers on here are definitely a big improvement. We no longer have a side firing speaker and one that's on the top. Both of them are big.

The both of them are giving us a perfect experience, and we're going to go ahead and check it out with Alex squint jumbo by NCS release. Let's go and play a little of music, for you guys so definitely sounds perfect. Again. Dolby Atmos configuration you're able to turn that on and customize the experience when it comes to audio gaming on this is going to be really nice again, you can fine tune the experience down to the game, and it will save all the settings for each game that you have installed and if you can, you don't see the game directly within the game enhancer, you definitely can turn it on and just get a chance to play some Call of Duty and again there's a big partnership with Call of Duty here. The gameplay, as you saw, is just buttery smooth and, as I'll show, you guys in a second some of the benchmarks that I was able to get while I was playing games now that we've covered the gaming experience, the new upgrade to the display, let's go ahead and talk about cinema pro and photography pro both of these camera applications are intended to use the system to the fullest extent, and you can definitely see here.

I've been doing a lot of different samples going on. We have access to all three different systems here, but you need to understand that cinema pro uses the cameras as a project format, meaning if I start shooting my content in one format, meaning 24 millimeters on the on this lens, the 12 megapixel sensor. It's gonna stick to this, and it will not allow me to change it. So you'll notice, right there 4k cannot be actually changed. So it's jumping me into a new project for me to be able to basically create content using the second sensors again you'll notice, right there, it's locked- and this is mostly because of the way it works it likes to keep the footage consistent in the same format so that it gives you a better experience.

We have an audio meter here on the left, of course, how much what the codec that we're using h.265 65, of course for the battery level, the remaining storage on here and, of course, we have a digital level, uh display you're able to turn it up and obviously turn off the different measurement. Here, of course, we have the nice little white balance, it's definitely overexposed over there. We have a grab for screen grab and, of course, this is just video recording. As I mentioned you guys at the beginning, this is capable of going all the way to 120 frames per second, I'm going to share with you guys a clip there of my son jumping. This was again shot in 4k at 120 frames per.

Second, there is no audio most of the time. Slow motion videos does not actually get uh any audio with it now, even though it's recorded at 120 frames 120 frames per second on our on the actual device it registers at 4k, 24 frames per second. So just keep that in mind, but when you play it back, you'll be able to control the actual configuration there now jumping over to the camera pro application again. This is exactly the same experience as you're getting with the cinema pro. The difference here is.

This is literally more of an experience if you ever used a camera from Sony like an alpha camera or even the uh Rx 7100 cameras, so we have automatic mode, a fire and shutter priority and, of course, manual mode. You can customize your different experience. Um you were able to basically, let's go and jump into a shutter priority, you're able to jump between the three different lenses, and you're able to actually kind of customize it. So let me show you what I mean so here's the 70 millimeter I'm actually able to zoom all the way up to 200 from this. So it goes from 70 to 200, from 24 to 70 and, of course, from the 16.

It goes from 16 to 24. , so essentially giving us that trinity of lenses that we always should have as professionals a 24 16 and a 70, millimeter, and you're able to also again go with the seven millimeter all the way up to 200, millimeters and again that'll be basically the best that you're able to go into uh. Most of the tricks that are in here for best performance will be on the 24 millimeter sensor, which essentially is the main primary sensor. We have burst shot. Of course, ISO configuration of course.

Here we have the exposure, we can lock the actual interface, and this is also the ability of changing from single shot to high burst shot if you want to be able to shoot up to 20 frames per second now, Sony still includes a standard camera application that you're able to use to take video with basically the all the sensors on here. The 8 megapixel sensor is only accessible through this application, so for front-facing, video uh, 1080p front 1080p 30 frames per second front-facing video. This is pretty much the best that you're able to get um, and you have to use this app if you're using it. Obviously for the back sensor, you're able to use all three sensors, but the maximum resolution here is 4k 30 frames per second, the 4k 60 and the 4k 120 are reserved to cinema pro, but other than that you're able to use the sensors. Personally, I recommend, if you're, going to use this for front-facing video, definitely use the default camera app that'll be the best experience you're able to get there, but for anything else I would recommend you jumping into photo pro or cinema pro, and, as I mentioned you guys at the beginning, you have actually the ability for customizing this button.

So if I press and hold the button right now, it opens up the camera pro application, and you can customize it there. One thing I was able to also do on this. If I press and hold the button, I can actually allow it to launch cinema pro on top of it by remapping the button functionality, so very nice, very easy, very simple and all in here now regarding the front-facing camera here on the Xperia 5 mark ii, it's an 8, megapixel sensor. It's the same one that we've seen in the past, I'm using the default standard, camera application to be able to do this. Video, because the cinema pro and the photography pro only recognize the back sensors so think of a Sony alpha camera.

It only has front-facing uh, you know front-facing sensors. It doesn't actually really recognize anything on the primary side, like the main shooter here in the front. So short answer for video calls. This is going to be fine. Uh general, you know picks as I'm showing you guys right now, a few pictures here and there with the front-facing camera.

I don't think it's going to be a bad camera realistically, if you're getting the Xperia 5 you're, really getting it for the sensors on the back. The sensors that we have on the back are truly the star cameras of this device and what I mean by this, even if you're, using the cinema pro, or you're, using the default camera app you're going to be able to get some perfect footage out of it. What I would probably say, though, is that just think of this as an alpha camera, it's really meant to be used with these sensors. One thing I would probably say, though, if you're these type of videos that we actually can't do these type of videos by ourselves with the cinema pro app, because you can't really compose the picture and make sure that you're exposing correctly for the subject. So that's really more of a creator base.

So that's why I'm not actually using the internal, like the cinema pro to do a handheld video, I'm using the default camera application, 4k 30 on the back 1080p 30 on the front. If we want to go to 4k, 60 or even 4k 120, then we need to use the cinema pro app to try to put it. In a few words, there is a lot to talk about in the Xperia 5 mark ii um. Today's video is pretty much focusing on the experience and some of the things that god upgraded and the improvements that we've seen here, there's going to be more focused, videos done on this uh, specifically when it comes to gaming and also when it comes to the actual experience of either photography uh things to do comparison to the Xperia one mark ii. A lot of things like that, but my goal that I wanted to share with you guys today is that gaming on the Xperia 5 mark ii is, I feel, like one of the primary focuses of this device.

It has great cameras on the back and also obviously learned a lot from the Xperia 1 mark ii, but I feel like the 120 frames per second refresh rate, the customization with the game enhancer the ability of having HS power control, the headphone jack are all really talking to the gamer side of me. That right now is just giggling for this, because the reality of the matter is in a smaller form factor. This is definitely a competitor. The 21 by 9 aspect ratio gives us a much better field of view when we're playing with the device in hand. But if you decide to let's say, go with something else, like I said, with the fish controller directly from racer you're able to expand that experience, because your hands get a little further out, you're still getting 120 frames per second again with supported games, stereo speakers and, of course the entire experience is just screaming crazy, good experience.

So um. Let me know in the comments below what do you guys think of the Xperia 5 mark ii. Definitely, thank you very much for all the support and I hope you guys are as excited about it as much as I am pre-sales are going to start off on the 29th, with basically 950 price tag, but there's going to be a for pre-orders, a 400 rebate or basically combination of headset power uh. Basically, I think power bank and some accessories that will actually in a way sweeten the spot there. If you think about it, it's not going to be as bad of a pill to swallow on that.

I think all the improvements that they've done over the Xperia 5 are well justified in the price increase. But again this is a opera. It is again just giving us what Sony feels are just the best of the best when it comes to gaming and, of course, photography on their devices. Thank you very much for the support like and subscribe as usual, and I'll see you guys in the next video.
