Google Pixel 5a - FIRST LOOK By TechTalkTV
So ever since the Pixel 3a, Google has followed the tradition of launching a lower specced version of its top-tier Pixel phone. The Pixel 3a was a game-changer. When it came out almost a couple of years ago, it was the only Android phone in its price range with guaranteed software updates and camera performance on par with significantly more expensive flagship handsets. while the Pixel 4a once again manages to be a strong offering for the price—particularly for shutterbugs—it isn't the same clear-cut winner as its predecessor. With fierce competition from Samsung and Apple with devices like the Galaxy A51, A71, and iPhone SE that offer multiple years of software updates, the Pixel 4a is definitely the right midrange phone for many users, but not all of them. Anyway, a lot of people are looking forward to what Google has in store with their midrange offerings in 2021.
Onleaks has revealed the first look of the Pixel 5a as well as some key specifications of the handset. This may disappoint some of you but the Pixel 5a doesn't just look similar to the Pixel 4a 5G but looks absolutely identical to the Pixel 4a 5G. It won't be wrong if we say Google has spent absolutely nothing in R&D for this handset. The exterior, as well as the interior, is going to remain the same with the exception of the chipset. The Pixel 4a 5G had Snapdragon 765G but there's no information about the chipset of this new handset, if I were to guess it should be Snapdragon 750.
Other specs include a 6.2" FHD+ OLED panel, stereo speaker, a plastic unibody construction, a rear fingerprint scanner at the back, a headphone jack that lives on, and finally a dual-camera setup with the same camera sensor we have on the Pixel 5. I hope at least with the Pixel 6 we see a fresh and unique design. Last year, a codename passport appeared in the Google database and 9to5Google reported that it is for a foldable phone from Google which could be launched alongside the Pixel 6 at the end of this year. Turns out, it was actually true, at least the first part. Google is indeed working on a foldable Pixel phone as confirmed by a South Korean publication the Elec.
They have found that Google has ordered foldable displays from Samsung. The foldable Pixel will apparently have a 7.6-inch main display, just like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 2. So basically it won't be a clamshell device but will appear more like a passport kinda like Microsoft Surface Duo. Aside from the display size, however, the report doesn't reveal anything else about the device. The foldable Pixel phone only makes sense, given the amount of work Google has put into developing Android with a set of features specifically aimed at foldable display functionality.
But even though Google has just requested foldable panels from Samsung, the final device isn’t anywhere near completion because it needs years to develop a new product especially if it's a novel technology such as a foldable phone. So it will be really surprising if Google can manage to launch the Foldable Pixel as soon as this October.
