Google Pixel 5: 5 best and 5 worst things

Google's flagship for 2020 is here: this is the pixel 5 and before our full review of this phone, we'll be taking a look at five, great and five, not so great things about the pixel 5. , as always starting off with the good stuff we're looking at the cameras when you think about pixel phones, you automatically think about their cameras. Yet again, Google's image processing remains something special, and it makes for some excellent shots. Video stabilization has gotten some upgrades as well and there's now studio lighting for portrait shots, which is pretty neat and there's. Finally, an ultra-wide angle, camera you'd love to see it next, the display it's a six inch, 1080p 90 hertz panel. It's got good, color accuracy, it's crisp, and it's clean, it's great for all kinds of different uses, and you do get immersed pretty nicely with the thin bezels which, by the way, are symmetrical so huge thumbs up for that.

This is a very nice OLED panel for sure. Next, up battery, the pixel 5 is packing a 4 080 William hour battery, which is not only significantly larger than the 4a's battery. It's also significantly larger than the Pixel 4 XL's battery and that's a bigger phone battery life with the pixel 5 is very good. It's strong, it's reliable, and you'll easily be able to make it through a day of heavy use on a single charge. This is definitely one of the phone's biggest strong points.

Next software. This is always one of the best parts when it comes to pixels. Android 11 has a number of nice additions updates to the notification system there's baked in screen recording. Finally, there are new media controls. Pixelated android is as smart as ever.

Of course, the software plays a part in just about everything, including the great pictures that we get, and you can't go wrong with being the first in line to receive new software updates for the next three years. It's clean and simple, but it's got a nice handful of tweaks that you can make to the experience it's good stuff. Last but not least in this category, we're talking about the design. Just like the software. The hardware is clean and simple, and it's quite nice- it's aluminum unibody, but it does have a matte coating on it, which makes it feel closer to a plastic finish, but it's still solid, and it doesn't feel cheap.

The buttons are nice and solid and click the rear mounted fingerprint reader made a return. It's just a nice comfortable, easy phone to use, and again the symmetrical bezels bring it all together very nicely before we move on to the not so great things. I just wanted to give a quick shout out to this video sponsor brand. They make awesome, looking skins for all kinds of devices, and I'll actually be using their grip case for the pixel 5, for not just grip and not just drop protection, but to give my phone a different look when I feel like switching it up, check them out using the very first link down below moving on to the not so great things. First up, there's only one size, while the size of this phone is good, it would be great to have another size option since the beginning of the pixel line of phones.

There's pretty much. Been Always a XL variant and a larger pixel 5 would have been awesome, who doesn't like having options. Kind of seems like a missed opportunity. Next, the processor now the 765 isn't a bad processor, but it isn't a super high-end chip either compared to last year's pixel, which had the latest and greatest at the time. Getting this in this year's flagship from Google, relatively speaking, is an actual downgrade, we'll see how things go moving forward, but again it is unfortunate.

We didn't get that high-end chip this time around, especially when you consider this phone's price, seven hundred dollars now seven hundred dollars is a good price point in general right, and it's the least expensive flagship pixel that we've gotten in a while, which is nice, but it's 700 for a reason. Not only is it tough because of the lack of a higher end processor, among other things, it's also tough because of what else you can get out there in this price tier. So it may be a nice lowered price point, but getting this phone is not a no-brainer. Next, there's no form of face unlock google's secure, face recognition that they were so incredibly proud of last year is now gone. Take this how you will- and I know some people- don't really care for face unlock, but some people do, and that leaves users with no choice other than the fingerprint scanner.

Speaking of choices, there's no telephoto camera now as glad as we are to finally have an ultra-wide on a pixel, I'm not so sure that choosing to replace the telephoto altogether was the best thing. As David said in his written review, Google's super res zoom is good, but its nowhere near makes up for not having the telephoto good. I understand this won't be a dealbreaker for some people. We just think it's an unfortunate cut that didn't necessarily have to be done. Make sure you keep an eye out for our full review coming soon.

You can check out our written review of the pixel 5 linked below. We hope you enjoyed this video if you did go ahead and drop a like sub to the android police channel, if you're new, it's been Zack, and thanks for watching.
