Google Pixel 4a vs. 4 XL Full Comparison: Is One Actually Better?

Hello and welcome back to another video, so today we're doing a full comparison between the Pixel 4a and the Pixel 4 XL. I'm going to talk about many topics pertaining to these two phones as well as, if I think it's worth getting one over the other. So as for price, let's start with the 4 XL, so you can get the 4xl on Amazon renewed for about five hundred thirty dollars. You can get it on swap pa for around 450, depending on your carrier and new. It starts at 8.99, but there are always deals that will allow you to get it for cheaper, whereas the 4a starts at 350 and Verizon actually is a deal where you can get it for 240 dollars. If you do two years of monthly payments, so that's an absolute steal.

As for the biometrics, so the pixel uses face ID, as you can see there and its face unlock uses, an IR, camera and sensors that allow for a very secure face unlock. However, the rear, fingerprint scanner works a little better in today's world. It's also very quick and easy to use, and, as for software, you can see right here. Both are using stock android. It's the pixel launcher on android 10, which is very clean and probably one of my favorite, if not my favorite version of android and as for the update timetable, both were guaranteed three years of software updates.

Since this came out a little later, it might get a little more, but both will get the same major android, update versions. The biggest differences between these two phones probably lie within the spec sheet. The Pixel 4a rocks 128 gigabytes of base storage, six gigabytes of ram the snapdragon 730 g, a 5.8 inch OLED display with a 1080p resolution with gorilla glass 3 for protection. It has a 3140 William hour battery and the same 12.2 megapixel camera. That's found on the 4xl.

Now the Pixel 4 XL has 64 gigabytes of bass, storage, six gigabytes of ram the snapdragon 855 a 6.3 inch 90 hertz OLED display with a 1440p resolution and gorilla glass 5. It also has a 3700 William hour battery and a 16 megapixel telephoto lens. In addition to the already mentioned, 12.2 megapixel main sensor, as for the design of the phone itself, the more premium 4xl uses glass on both sides with coated aluminum rails, and it has a much bigger forehead due to the sensors or face unlock and project solely also worth mentioning. Is it has ip68 dust and water resistance? The Pixel 4a, on the other hand, is no tip certified. It uses an all plastic design with very click buttons, and although it feels cheaper than the 4xl, it doesn't feel cheap.

The matte finish on the plastic makes it feel premium, even though we're using plastic here, the front design actually looks more modern, with the hole punch cut up and both use Google's signature power button color it gives it a little extra design, cue that makes it google and I, for one, really enjoy the colored power buttons. One of the most important features to me personally is the display in this case. Both panels are very solid. The Pixel 4 XL's 1440p 90hz OLED display is a bit nicer. However, the 5.8 inch 1080p 60 hertz panel on the 4a, really impressed me and I would be content with either one. The biggest difference really comes down to the high refresh rate, which just makes the phone feel very smooth.

Now, as someone who watches a lot of YouTube on my phone content, consumption is also a key factor to me. We just mentioned that display is slightly nicer on the 4xl and that plays a role in content consumption. But we didn't talk about the speaker, quality, and I'll. Give you guys an example, so we're first going to play you a little example at 50 volume, because I actually find a big difference here. So here's the 4a and here is the 4xl and, as you can tell by there, the 4a sounds very quiet at 50, and I have found that I have to put it almost near 100 for it to sound the way.

I would like it to the pixel.4 XL gets a lot louder, so here's a quick sample at full loudness, so the 4xl sounds significantly louder, and it sounds a little clearer. Although the Pixel 4a is quite clear, that being said, the Pixel 4a, unlike the 4xl, does include the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack. So for you audio enthusiasts at least you have that, and this is what 16x9 content looks like in both we'll quickly show you 18 by nine. So here's a video in 18 by nine by my friend, Johannes, who created the channel tech PhD, which will be in the description we are also starting a podcast. So if you're interested in that, I can also link you to that.

But anyway, as you can see, 18x9 content looks pretty good in both and that's due to the aspect ratio of the phone itself. Overall content consumption is going to be better on the 4xl, but is it significantly better, I'm not sure if you'd have to decide. In the past. I have been critical of Google's decision to use a 3700 William hour battery on the Pixel 4 XL. They improved battery life significantly since the device was first released, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be better.

The actual difference in battery life should be noted. The 730g in the 4a makes the smaller 3140 William hour battery perform way better than what I'm getting on the 4xl I'm consistently getting over 7 hours of screen on time on the 4a, which is phenomenal for my usage sure you could make the argument that you could drop the 4xl to 60hz, and it would improve battery life, but I shouldn't have to make compromises on the flagship device. It's also worth noting that the pixel 4 can wirelessly charge both these phones fast charge at 18 watts, but the 4xl does allow you to wirelessly charge a staple feature of the pixel phones are their cameras and these cameras are more similar than they are different, but let's discuss the differences. They use similar 8 megapixel selfie cameras with the 4a1 being slightly bigger, with 24 rather than 22 millimeters. The 4xl has the 18 megapixel telephoto a time of flight depth sensor and the pixel neural core.

But are these differences enough? I will already have been showing you some samples and really there feels like a slight difference in zoom. Not enough. Video is also quite similar. Overall, these cameras are both incredible and this one may outperform it, but this one performs nearly as good speaking of performance. Let's talk about performance in gaming, so here we have the 730g and the 855.

As you know, the 855 wins easily like. If we look at the benchmarks, it's not a competition, but that doesn't tell the entire story. Real life usage is a slightly different story. Yes, it's the same trend of the 855 being better, but the 4xl actually gets hotter in longer use due to its lack of thermal management. Also, the 4a feels quite snappy.

Despite the 730g, the 730g is a mid-range chipset, but it's quite good. Overall. When it comes to gaming, the Pixel 4a performs well, and I will be showing you a quick gaming sample of the 4a, because you've already seen enough of it on the for Excel. If you've seen others in my channel, I was very impressed with how games felt even in a longer session. It definitely surprised me, as I felt significant differences when I used gaming on the Pixel 3a.

So we joined a little late and did well there, as you can see it's very, very smooth on the Pixel 4a, and it doesn't feel too hot on the back at all. Now that we've gone through all that here's. My final verdict, I don't know if you picked up on the theme of this- you probably did, but the 4xl is better in most areas, although not all the areas, and you have to decide if it's worth spending the extra money for me, I would actually recommend the 4a unless you need the faster and larger display of the 4xl. The 4a has thoroughly impressed me, and although I love my 4xl for many reasons, those reasons are also quite apparent on the 4a. So I hope you guys enjoyed this one.

Let me know what you think, which you would choose, and peace.
