Google Pixel 4a 5G Unboxing and First Impressions!

All right, hey, what's up guys it's Roy here and with today's video, as you can see, I'm going to be doing an unboxing of the Google Pixel 4 a5g that I just picked up from T-Mobile. Now this device comes in at 499. , so I did a job to jump into this, so I can have this for a little because, to be honest with you guys, I have been missing that true, google just standard experience just pure android, really missing it so wanted to get into it. Now. This is the only Google Pixel device that T-Mobile is currently selling. If they had the five, I would have gotten the five.

So let's go ahead and dive into the actual unboxing, I have not opened it. I ran straight from T-Mobile to do this, video real quick. So then I could pop my sim card in it and play with it. So, as the box goes, you have the basic just standard white clean. Looking box from Google got the Google logo there, Pixel 4a 5g half picture of the device, as you can see there T-Mobile sticker for the restocking, google on this side.5G on this side and just a clean white back with team pixel on the back here, so let's go ahead and get it out so, like I said, I literally didn't even open it at the store. I wanted to do my first impressions and everything with you all live as I'm doing the video.

So I'm going to put that to the side here, there's the actual device. So let's go ahead and get that out and put it to the side, so I'll play with that in just a second right off the bat. I can really tell I'm going to really like that. Matte finish. So let's go ahead and get this out here.

So I got my uh T-Mobile sim card, which I'm not going to waste. My time with uh. You do have a Google little book here. You know. So it's certain it's like a quick start guide yeah.

So I'm not going to bore you all with that in this video and something that's not kind of the norm anymore. Are you do get a power brick with it and a charging cable? So it is an 18 watt, fast charging power. Brick! That's standard for all Google Pixel devices and then, of course you do get your USB c to c charging cable and then, of course it looks like you do, get your. If I can get it out, you also get the um. You know type a to USB uh.

You know data transfer thing there. If you wanted to kind of use that which, as many of these I've gotten over the years, I've never used it so but either way, that's what you get as well. So now let's go ahead and look at the main attraction here. So there it is. There is the matte black 5g from Google.

Absolutely love the look of this. So far. Now let's go ahead and do that peeling off voil? and there is the device, so the device in hand at right off the bat feels very good uh. It is 6.2 inches, so it is on the larger side. I would almost jokingly call it a 4a XL, but it's not it's a 4a5g.

So obviously it's got 5g. It has the snapdragon 765 g chip in it. So, instead of what the regular 4a has, you will see a significant performance boost with this, but you are getting 5g capability with this device here, as you can see here, you do have that fingerprint sensor on the back, so you've got that fingerprint scanner there. Instead of the face unlock like the pixel 4 does, so I'm a fan. I do welcome the fingerprint scanner back.

I do wish they did a combination of the fingerprint scanner and some sort of face unlock, but that's just wishful thinking on my part. You do have the g there, so the signature, google g and then here you do have your camera bump that mimics exactly the same. Look as the Google Pixel 4's camera bump, and you are getting a just, a regular wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide angle lens with this particular camera set up so no telephoto lens, but most people don't use a telephoto lens and especially with the software that the Google pixels have with being able to zoom in and really use the software to make it look good. I don't know if it's necessary to have an actual telephoto lens. Obviously I would have loved it, but it is what it is.

Then you got your flash and all that up here. The other thing is, you do get a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack there, which is awesome. So definitely a nice bonus there and then, of course, you got the mic cut out there on the side. You do have your pop of color with a white power button and then, of course, the volume up and down buttons are on the same side as traditional for a Google Pixel. Nothing on this side except your sim card, ejector portion there.

So that's where your sim card tray is going to be and then at the bottom you do have two down fire stereo speakers and also your USB port and then, like I said you do have this nice flat front display here: let's go ahead and power, the device on real, quick, like I said first time, turning it on, so we'll see how fast that turn it takes to boot. And then, as you can see here, uh you got a nice bezel here. So they're not seamless they're, not super thin, but they are nice and symmetrical, so you're, not getting that chunkier forehead or chin like the pixel 4, and you do have that single uh whole camera punch out there for your selfie camera and, as you can see there too, you do have the speaker grille there as well. So you do have stereo speakers to be determined on how loud and good they sound, but there is the actual device. So let me go ahead and get this bad boy set up real, quick, and then I'll, just kind of show off the screen a little, and we'll uh in the video.

So let me go ahead and do that right now, all right guys so got it all set up here. So let's go ahead and do a rundown on some specs as we got the phone turned on. So as you can see, you have a very nice OLED display on the Google Pixel 4 a5g. It is 6.2 inches, so it is a bigger screen than some of the other pixels that I've had in the past. I welcome this size.

I think 6.2 inches is actually the perfect size. For example, here is my Samsung Galaxy s21 and, as you can see here, the screen is identical. Uh the pixel 4 a5g, though, is a little wider of an aspect. This is a 20 aspect or 20 by nine or whatever it is, and this is a 19 by five or something like that. I believe, but either way, as you can see, it's a little wider, but definitely has a really nice OLED display it is 168 grams.

So it is a lightweight phone feels very good in the hands with my first impressions feels very, very good. Now, with it being 5g, it is sub 6, 5g and millimeter wave. So that is something to keep in mind, but to be honest with you, I'm not buying phones for it having 5g, I couldn't care less if they have 5g, but it is what it is uh. It is a glass front, so you got gorilla glass, 3 on the front and a plastic back on the back. Here you don't get any wireless charging.

There is no IP rating with this phone. Unfortunately, but once again, I'm okay with that um because of the price of it only being 4.99 uh now. Another thing to point out is that you do get an always on display, which I always bring that up, because at the end of the day uh it blows my mind that a lot of phones don't have always on displays, so you do get the always on display, so that is a plus for sure. So next you are going to be getting that 765g uh 5g Qualcomm snapdragon chip um. It is uh 60 hertz, so you're not going to be getting that buttery, smooth, 90, hertz or anything like that, but so far with me just playing around with it, I don't miss the 90 hertz, but the more I play with this phone I guarantee I probably will, I do wish this had 90 hertz, but is what it is um.

But you are gonna, get a little of performance boost if you do have a Google Pixel 4a, since this chipset is a little better now to be determined compared to other 4a users. If you notice it or not, I have to imagine I won't notice a difference to be honest with you, even though it is a mirror or a mid-level chipset, but coming from a snapdragon, 888 uh. Obviously I think I'll know I'll notice some difference, but at the end of the day, I'm not a gamer. I don't play games on my phone, so I'm not gonna, be just killing it uh with that type of uh performance or play, but everyday use using the phone using my Google Maps. Using you know, just all the things that I use with the normal phone is what I typically would be caring about the most now there is no card slot, so you know no expandable storage or anything like that already touched on the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack um, the cameras. So you do get the dual camera setup like I said so, you're getting a 12.2, megapixel main shooter, and then you are getting a 16 megapixel ultra-wide and then on the front. You are getting an 8 megapixel, uh, selfie camera as well, so obviously to be determined on the quality of the camera.

But with it being a pixel device, I have to imagine the camera quality is going to be superb, especially in low light conditions, etc. , etc. , and having that added benefit of the ultra-wide. That's a huge win, because I have not owned a pixel device. Yet that has had the ultra-wide angle lens.

I've always had the telephoto or the just regular, wide angle lens like on my pixel 4 or 4xl. So it is going to be a nice addition to play with the um ultra-wide angle lens to see how google does theirs and I have to imagine it's going to perform very well also to talk about the camera, the video capabilities you are able to shoot, 4k at 30 and 60 frames per second and 1080 at 30, 60, 120 and 240. So that is something if you are a fan of the slo-mo uh, you can shoot up to 240 frames per second at 1080p on the selfie camera for video you're, only going to be able to shoot and record in 1080 at 30 frames per second. As far as the speakers go, you do have that front facing speaker there with your actual earpiece and then the down firing ones. Here they are stereo speakers.

Do they get loud? I don't know yet, but from all the videos I've seen I've heard that they're about mediocre at best, but once again, I'm not really just jamming out to music on my phone, I'm actually listening to it on headphones and stuff, like that. So as long as it performs somewhat I'm okay with it and to kind of touch on the last few things, you are getting Bluetooth 5.0 with this, so you are getting uh the latest and greatest. Well, I think there's like 5.1 or 5.2 out now, but you're at least getting 5.0 at least um. So you will be able to take advantage of that and then also, let's see to talk about this, you do get your fingerprint scanner there to show you all real, quick, the performance of it. It's very quick, very instant, so very fast, I'm going to definitely enjoy using that because that face unlocks on the pixel 4 was sometimes glitchy, especially in this COVID-19 times, if you're wearing a mask, which I typically don't like to wear a mask, especially now that in Texas, the mask mandate has been lifted uh, but when I was wearing a mask a lot that mask really was a pain in the butt when you were doing face unlock so having that fingerprint scanner, uh would have been a nice added addition to the pixel 4, but hey you got it here, so big one there! So that's about it guys, I'm not going to go into too much else.

Obviously you got the USB type-c port here at the bottom, so in combination with your charger you're getting 18 watts of fast charging, it's what google pixels have had for a long time. I look forward to the day when google decides to bump up to maybe like 25 watts or something like that hell who knows maybe even faster uh, but I'll. Take it. It's still quick enough for me uh so and then, oh as far as the battery goes, I completely forgot to talk about that. As far as the battery goes, I completely forgot to touch on that.

It is a 3885 William battery, it's non-removable um, so to be determined on screen on time. I've heard that the battery life is pretty decent on this phone, so to be determined once again with my testing. So there you have it guys. There is the just black 4a5g uh hit that like button. If you liked the video, if you loved it, obviously sub and ring that notification bell for up-to-date content, but until next time guys be safe, and we'll see on the next video.
