Compared: iPhone SE VS iPhone SE 2020 -- What A Difference!

Hey everyone, it is Andrew here from Apple Insider. Today we were talking once more about the new iPhone SE, but not just the new iPhone SE. We're also gonna talk about the old iPhone SE, yes, even just for fun or for information. We're going to be tackling both the previous generation iPhone SE and comparing it to the brand-new iPhone SE and see what you guys think see how far Apple has come to in their entry-level phones from 2016 to 2020, so uh. Let's just go ahead and dive right into it. The iPhone SE versus the iPhone SE between the two devices, one of the biggest differences, is just going to be in size.

In fact, just has an entirely new form factor from one generation to the other. The original iPhone SE had at iPhone 5 kind of shaped with the flat side, chambered edges and the solid back. It was a very small compact device with a 4-inch display. Now we have the new model, which is jumping up to that 4.7 inch display, and we have a more iPhone, 8 style design. Has that glass back, which enables things like wireless charging, then has the aluminum sides rounded displays on the front? It looks very, very nice, much more modern in still a small phone, though it is not as small as an original iPhone SE again going from a 4-inch display to a 4.7 inch display some people. That is good because.

It is still a very small compact bone, but you're getting a lot more screen real estate. Look at the iPhone SE today, the original. What God that screen is just so cramped on there I know a lot of people, love that side and I empathize with them, but trying to do stuff on that can be frustrating. It is just still crammed and tight compared to what you're looking at on the new iPhone SE. So I really do prefer that larger display, even if it is not as small as it used to be.

Now, it's not just about this size here that new display is also far more capable. The new display has a higher brightness. It can actually go up to 625 nits instead of just 500. It has the same 326 PPI as the previous generation, so they look pretty much the same as far as pixel density goes, but it's brighter has a better 1400 to one instead of 800 to 1 contrast ratio, it supports true tone and the p3 wide color gamut. So purely just on technology and capabilities of the display.

The been looked far nicer, it's very easy to tell, and even our older iPhone SE here you can't really see it on video, but a little of light bleed coming in from the top the new models. It's just a much better panel installed for that display other changes. Now they both still have the home button with touch ID. A lot of people do prefer touch ID over base ID more people for her face ID, but there are people who still like touch ID, and then they're still sticking around, but there is a difference in the home buttons, so the original one still uses that actual physical home button. Actually, the prices down where the new one is using that kind of tactic feedback to replicate it.

Click and I'll say the new one feels a far nicer and that leather one feels like it's definitely going to fail over time versus just that solid state home button. One of the benefits of the older model is it retains that headphone jack, so there's a headphone jack on the original iPhone SE, whereas the new one drops that, obviously in favor of that iPhone eight style design. We also want to talk hugely about the cameras on this guy. Now, if you just kind of looked at the raw specs, just quick overview, you'd see a 12 megapixel camera and a 12 megapixel camera, but that is not the whole picture. If you dig into the details, you're going to see how much better the new cameras are.

So it supports things like portrait mode, which is amazing, there's only one camera on the back of the iPhone SE 20/20, and yet it can capture portrait mode images, and they look fantastic. So that is one huge difference there. You also have differences in HDR, so it has smart. HDR has a large dynamic range for videos, has a new higher quality sensor inside there. You were getting a six element lens out of a five element legs.

We have a wider, faster aperture, that's gonna, let more lighting going from an F to point to between F 1.8. We have a still the true tone. Flash the new one has slow sink built in so to me more accurate. When lighting your photos there, the iPhone SE 2020 doesn't, have everything that we'd like from a camera. It doesn't have a night mode or deep fusion.

Apples really impressive photo technology, but it was a lot going on and especially compared to that original iPhone. Se is just a huge difference. Video wise the new one can shoot.4K video at 60 frames per second instead of just 4k at 30 frames per second and with the upgraded iPhone SE can handle a slow-motion video at 1080p at 240 frames per second previous iPhone. Se could do 240, but only at 720p. If we flip things around and take a look at the front-facing camera we're going from a 1.2 megapixel sensor. All the way up to a 7 megapixel sensor obviously doesn't have the true depth camera system that the face ID enabled iPhones have, which is a UV even better camera on there, but even with just the one camera we still get portrait mode for our selfies great higher resolution all around, and it can shoot higher quality video from 720p up to 1080 at 30 frames per second.

So a lot better capabilities on the front-facing camera. Huge changes on that back facing cameras- there's not you know as much camera tech as the bigger ones, but simply going from the SE to the SE 2020 you're going to get a huge difference in the quality of those photos and, of course, there are videos. Other changes of the new iPhone SE brings along. We have haptic feedback, haptic touch, so it's kind of replicating 3d touch on here, but we don't just you. Don't have 3d touch anymore, so it's haptic touch.

You can long press on icon, so you get haptic feedback when you're, actually getting in those contextual menus or previewing links. All of that really cool feature there. We have dual sim support on the new iPhone SE. We have ip67 water-resistant, so there's going to be a much more durable phone in that regard. Anybody gives that glass back.

It's going to enable wireless charging, so you can charge this thing over lightning or through any wireless charger, but with a metal back of the previous gen you're, not going to get any wireless charging there. So there are quite a few changes going from that iPhone SE 16 to the iPhone SE 20. A lot of the tech in the upgraded iPhone SE is powered by the 13 biotic processor. Apple did not skimp here in any regard, this is the same. Processor apple includes and all the other iPhones that are launched in 2019, including its pro model.

So this is Apple the fastest iPhone ship, yet they baked in to their lowest entry level cost iPhone. So it's incredible to see that here we do see that there's a huge performance boost over the 89 processor found in the original iPhone SE and should because it's a four-year gap in terms of releases, so you're going to get ridiculously more performance on here and not just now, not just comparing the two, but you're going to have performance going into the future, because this is their highest end. Chipset you're, going to get great performance now and for the next several years so which make this is what makes this a great budget phone is the fact that you're getting its pro level processor in an entry-level phone apple supports their phones for many years. In fact, our original iPhone SE, here even with it's old, a 9 processor that is shipped with it's still supporting iOS, the routine and new features. So it's great to see how Apple supports its devices and the new low-cost iPhone is no difference so that pretty much sums it up.

Those are the huge differences in mind you. There are a lot of differences, there's more stuff to here, that we didn't quite touch on, but the biggest differences we've absolutely covered and to hear what you think, even if you're nine iPhone SE fan.
