Well, everyone is talking about the great snapdragon 888 chipsets, which fights fierce battles for the crown of the best strongest and undisputed performance king on the smartphone market. The snapdragon 870 is slowly emerging from the shadows, a chipset that will apparently mark the year ahead with the better performance than the previous snapdragon 865 and a65 plus flagships. We expect nothing less from the 870 in the top performance. The first phone to arrive for testing with this chipset is the Motorola motor g100, a new middle glass device that seems very ambitious with the European price of 499 euros or roughly 585 dollars. The phone comes packed with the snapdragon 870 processors, 8, gigabytes of ram and 128 gigabytes of very fast UFS 3.1 storage memory and brings performance better than last year's best smartphones at almost one third of the price. Less putting the 870 chipset in this price range is really hard, since as an example, it is also found in the VIVO x60 pro, which costs almost 200 euros.
More funny way to make it available at this price is a huge feat and to that we have to commend Motorola on a brave move at the moment, while we're still waiting for the Paco, f3 Motorola definitely doesn't have any competition in this price range and will certainly capture the interest of anyone who is looking for an extremely flash processor at an acceptable price plus. The aforementioned Paco f3 is not the clear winner in terms of all specs compared to the g100 model. When you look at the comparison sheet also, we won't be expecting the Paco f3 right away, since it would easily cannibalize the rest of the Xiaomi's phone lineup, including some recent ones, all in all, the g100 definitely has a month or two to brags about being the only phone with an extremely powerful processor and still a true mid-range price. On paper, the g100 seems like a great device with a decent price. Motorola made a strong decision that they are going to release near flagship level performance at a price point that doesn't go over 500 euros, which certainly deserves praise.
The question is: if the aforementioned performance is everything stick to the end of our video to find out the motor g100 comes in a plastic chassis with a plastic frame, but this is definitely not the impression you get when you hold it. In your hand, the frame is massive with a nice shiny finish that you can't tell from metal one until you scratch it with some other metal object, which we did not do. Of course, the build quality is at the highest level, so nothing on the phone moves or gives in under pressure. Even if you try hard the frame surrounds a slightly curved 6.7 inch, IPS screen with full HD plus resolution and a refresh rate of 90 hertz protected by gorilla glass 3. The 21 to 9 movie aspect ratios feels better when you hold the phone with one hand, but unless you have extremely long fingers, you won't be able to reach the top of the screen with only one hand.
Clearly, Motorola decided that this was a fair compromise. Narrow long phones provide better one-hand grip, but makes it more difficult to use with one hand, while models with a slightly more conventional aspect. Ratio provide greater comfort, physically larger screen area, but awkward single hand grip. The screen has slightly more noticeable bezels, especially on the bottom, but also very curved corners, which follow the curvature of the body and emphasize it. The two front cameras are housed in the punch hole openings in the upper left corner, a 16 megapixel standard and 8 megapixel ultra-wide camera for taking pictures with friends and wider selfie shots, not a favorite solution for many, but there are also those who, like this solution, if you're surprised by the fact that g100 comes with an IPS instead of an OLED screen, we will once again remind you that the price of this phone does not exceed 500 euros.
Sure there are phones with AMOLED screens in this price range, but they don't have such a powerful processor, not even close. The screen. Brightness is good as well as the contrast, so you will be satisfied with the phone. Even on a sunny day. The screen supports HDR 10, so you'll fully enjoy movies and shows on Netflix, Amazon, prime HBO go and other services.
What somewhat spoils the overall experience for that purpose, though, is the lack of stereo speakers. The headset speaker does not double as a second speaker, so for best experience you will need headphones or external speakers. Good news is that the g100 comes with 3.5 millimeter audio connector, so those of you who own high quality wire headphones will now be able to put them in use for those who gave up on wired headphones. There is also a Bluetooth 5.1, with a2dp and low energy support on the bottom edge. In addition to the aforementioned 3.5 millimeter audio jack, you will also find an USB 3.1, a speaker and a microphone opening, while at the top there is only a secondary microphone. Motorola is not giving up on its Google Assistant button on its g series, phones, which is located on the left side above the slot for two sim cards, or one sim card and one micro SD card in a slight recess on the right side, just below the thumb area.
There is a power button with an integrated fingerprint sensor and right above it, there are volume, control keys, while the position of the power key is perfect. The sound control will require a bit of a finger gymnastics because the keys are placed quite high, so you will have to change the position of the phone or use the other hand. The use of USB 3.1 port for data transfer and charging is a very pleasant surprise and something we don't always see on even some more expensive phones. We assume that the fast USB is a consequence of ready for software support that allows you to use the phone as a desktop gaming console watching movies, on the big screen or for video calls. When you add the UFS 3.1 standard for storage memory, it is clear that the g100 has excellent data performance in every aspect: the color in the back of the phone changes between green, blue and purple. Depending on the angle at which you look at it, the discrete Motorola logo is located where the Moto G phones usually have fingerprint sensors.
While the camera body carries four lenses, a flash and an additional microphone for better audio for video recording as the phone comes with a transparent silicone case, it won't mean much up to the user whether the back of the phone is made of plastic or glass, since it will help eliminate any accidental scratches. The screen protection is gorilla, glass 3, which means that it should be just as scratch resistant as if it was the latest version, but that the drop resistance will be somewhat weaker. All in all. As long as you have a protective case, you won't have to worry too much. We should note that the screen is a bit dimmer around the camera in the very corner, which is a known thing for screens with this type of selfie camera, we have to admit with Motorola phones, we like their attention to details and those little things with which this company wins over its users.
If we ignore many cleverly designed gestures for which Motorola has been known for years, when you take selfies depending on which front camera you use main or wide angle, a circle will light up around the lens to let you know where to look, even though the cameras are only five to six millimeters apart, the increasingly popular adaptive screen refresh rate option is also present here and during testing. We noticed that the refresh rate jumps from 60 to 90 hertz and vice versa, without any intermediate steps, as we had seen on flagship phones model, g100 phone is based on the snapdragon 870 chipsets, which is also the star feature of this device with one core 3.2 gigahertz 3 at gigahertz and 4 at 1.8 gigahertz. This chipset is a true powerhouse when it comes to smartphones, with up to 3.2 gigahertz on its fastest score. This is the highest operating frequency of any core on smartphones. Note that the snapdragon 870, unlike the 888, relies on the previous generation of cry chorus and represents an improved version of the 7 nanometer snapdragon 865 chipsets.
While the 870 uses a combination of the fast cry 585 and slightly slower cry 385 cores, the strongest 888 chipsets relies on the 5 nanometer cry 680 cores, which have slightly lowed clock speed but are significantly improved. The Motorola motor g100 comes in two memory configurations: eight 128 and 12 256 gigabytes, so you can choose a version with more memory right away and have a more future-proof. Phone. The camera system on the g100 seems very interesting. The main sensor is a 64 megapixel Univision and uses a pixel binning technology which merges four adjacent pixels, thus giving 16 megapixel photos.
The pixels are 0.7 micrometers in size and are located behind the f 1.7 lens, with a focal length of 25 millimeters. Also, it uses time-of-flight laser-assisted phase detection, autofocus system, the ultra wide-angle lens captures 16 megapixel photos with an angle of 117 degrees, plus. It also doubles as a macro sensor, to help with the macrophotography. There is a LED ring around the lens that helps with object. Illumination, the other two sensors are the time of flight, as well as the 2 megapixel depth sensor.
When we talk about the performance of the main camera, we have to say we are quite satisfied, especially with the details and sharpness. The colors are reproduced beautifully. The white balance is precise and dynamic range is good, especially when all this is put into the perspective of a price of this device. The situation is similar with wide-angle lens thanks to the autofocus. The sharpness is good, as well as the amount of detail with a little more noise than on the main camera, which is to be expected.
The colors are still true to those in reality, though, with a much narrower dynamic range, which is always a weak point of this type of camera. The software nicely corrects the lens distortion, but there is no option to disable it, and maybe get a bit of extra width. Macro mode is not activated automatically, but is a special option in the camera software. Given the resolution of the sensor, the images are very good but require a lot of light to preserve the details. There is also the aforementioned led ring that adds light in low light conditions, but it seems to us that this is a bit too much proving to be more of a nuisance than it actually helps.
If there was an option to adjust the light intensity, the ring would be much more usable. This way it can be a bit too strong and ruin the shot night photos are where all the flaws of phone cameras, no matter how small are highlighted. The most the motor g100 takes good night photos with flaws corrected by the use of night mode. Here we primarily mean a somewhat narrower dynamic range, especially in the shadows, which open up somewhat when you turn on night mode. Images are generally good with a lot of details, especially when your subject or object is somewhat illuminated.
The wide angle camera doesn't shine in the dark and there is no night mode to help the sharpness decreases from the center to the edges. The details are somewhat blurry and there is a lot of noise, so it is recommended to avoid this camera when the light conditions are challenging. The main 16 megapixel selfie camera also uses pixel binning, so the resulting images have a resolution of 4 megapixels. Although the resolution is not too high, the facial tones are good. The dynamic range is decent with a lot of details where there is enough light.
The wide angle selfie camera is much softer than the main one, with narrower dynamic range and lower contrast. This still isn't too big of a problem, so this camera will come in handy when you need a wider shot, so just make sure that the light source is not directly behind you. The model g100 allows you to record video in 6k at 30, fps 4k at 30 or 60 fps and 1080p at 120 fps for slow motion. Shots 6k at 30fps does not use electronic stabilization, and the resolution itself does not seem too tempting because it's not a standard used by either TVs or YouTube. So we feel Motorola should have either gone with 8k or forget about it altogether and just use 4k instead in 4k, 30 or 60 stabilization is active, which does its job very well.
The shots are sharp detailed with the excellent noise reduction in all parts of the frame. The colors are a little over saturated, but nothing that will make you change the shooting mode. Yes, we would also like to see optical stabilization, but it would affect the price and Motorola is probably already pushing it in that department. In terms of software, we have to mention that Motorola really tried to make the g100 shine in this regard. The phone comes with an android 11, with a classic pure android experience enriched with several motor accessories with the g100 Motorola has introduced the aforementioned ready for platform, which raises the functionality of this affordable phone to a much higher level ready for allows you to connect your phone to a TV or monitor via USB or HDMI cable and use it as a desktop computer.
Motorola will soon start selling a phone dock. That is a vital part for the ready for platform and allows for easy control. Ready 4 is designed as a platform that allows your phone to become a desktop computer game, console portable cinema or a tool for a powerful video calling by connecting to the monitor via the mentioned cables. You get a desktop experience, similar to what Samsung and Huawei offered with their flagship models, although ready for is nothing new and other companies offered these features few years ago. The main difference is that Motorola, thanks to its powerful hardware base, offers these features in the mid-range phone, while the competition reserves them only for their top models.
By connecting your phone to the big screen and using an external Bluetooth controller, you can easily turn the g100 into a gaming console, no matter which game you like everything, is better on a big screen and with a controller in your hand, in addition that we especially like this ability to play video content on a large TV screen without the need to install an adequate application on it, the motor g100 allows direct streaming, provided you bring a HDMI cable which greatly solves the problem of screen and phone compatibility. Of course, Motorola also enables the use of its powerful rear camera. When you connect the g100 to the TV in order to have a far better video calls, a large TV screen to better see the person you are talking to and a large main camera sensor. So they can see you better at the price. This phone goes for ready, for is a serious software platform.
The users will be able to appreciate best of all. This is just the beginning, and there is no reason for Motorola not to continue developing this platform to provide added value to its users. The part we haven't mentioned so far is the phone's battery and the charger that, unlike some still comes in the package with five thousand William hours, g100 has the battery capacity, which is popular among the current mid-range phones. Since manufacturers do not feel the need to make the mid-range phones ultra-thin, we often see a trend when they pack some beefy batteries, with two to three days of autonomy. With about two hours of charging from a fully discharged battery to one hundred percent, the motor g100 will provide its users with up to two days of autonomy.
At the end of our 10 hour, YouTube playback video test with 50 screen brightness. There was 44 percent of the battery remaining. This should be taken with a grain of salt, because in the YouTube application, the screen refresh rate drops to 60 hertz, so the autonomy for each user will vary depending on their affinities and the way they use their phone. In any case, two days of use will be realistic for every user. Unless you really go overboard on gaming with the most powerful chipset in this price range, the Motorola motor g100 seems like an perfect purchase.
The mid-range motor g100 offers performance better than last year's, the fastest phones, extremely fast internal memory and data transfer, a good camera system and a good battery life. After that, the free, ready, 4 software package and the list of good things for the motor g100 is getting longer. Yes, the frame could have been metal and the back could be glass. A zoom camera would fit nicely as well as an OLED screen at 120 hertz, but then the price would most likely be 30 percent higher and the phone would have completely had different competition. The real objections we have to the Moto G 100 are the slightly slower charger and the average design of both the phone and the user interface.
The dim pastel colors on the backgrounds of the motor g100 phone makes the screen look much worse than it really is, and the slightly boring stock android looks like it's from 2016. A small redesign of the user interface would not hurt as well as a bunch of new wallpapers. That would freshen up the look and not affect the final price of the phone too much. If at all, we mentioned before that, it's about time that Motorola created a visual identity. When it comes to phone software with a little design freedom, it would be nice to see what Motorola could have come up with.
If I were a user of this phone first thing I would do is install the nova launcher, set some more modern icons and a nicer wallpaper long story short. The model g100 is a great phone at a great price. Design and appearance are a matter of personal taste and depend on the user. What is objective is the performance that rivals the phones in the class of over 1 000 euros and a solid camera system, plus a 2 day of battery life. Of course, you can find a nicer phone.
You can get a better screen, stereo speakers even for this amount of money, but when it comes to speed the g100 will leave each of these phones in the dust. Of course, you can find a nicer phone. You can get a better screen, stereo speakers even for this amount of money, but when it comes to speed, the g100 will leave each of these phones in the dust. If you want a phone that, you can be sure, will easily handle absolutely any mobile game in two to three years, and you don't have the money to buy a flagship at the moment. The only phone that guarantees this is the Motorola g100.
