2020 TCL 6 Series Mini-LED QLED 4KTV Review (R635)! - Is THX Game Mode Good?

What is going on guys, BCD here, and today we finally have my full review of the TCL six series.2020 mini lead, you all ready, let's get into it, so a few reminders before I start here. This will not be my last video on this television. So if you want to see more content, don't forget to like and subscribe to be the first to see in the future now drum roll, please I like it uh. Let me explain that I feel, like that's controversial, for some reason uh, but let me explain when going through these tests, I began to see some flaws of my Samsung that this budget TCL beat, and it kind of got me thinking about the bigger picture and what truly matters on a television like to give more context to that, I want to talk about the gaming mode thanks, the new technology fresh off the press, the strong features, that's inside this budget television, I'm kind of going to break it down by category for thanks and go over each metric. That needs to be met in order for to get this certification. So first up is color.

Ensure picture settings are carefully adjusted to deliver vibrant colors. It did not do that at first. So for my experience with the ta he gaming mode, it that is falling flat on the actual colors, I actually had to punch up my color uh setting to 100 versus the standard 46 that it starts on that actually did solve the problem. It created more saturation that I was looking for kind of similar to my q led now. I agree in some games that over saturation could cause a lot of lost detail.

But overall I enjoy my games saturated and gives me a better gaming experience. So the good thing is that it meets it, but the bad thing is it's not out the gate now. Could this have been met in different modes on the television? Yes, but did I want it to be met in those modes? No, I feel as if the thanks certified mode is the best mode to play in. As of now, there has not been any clarification around whether all the other features are in other modes, with the game mode just turned on manually. So as of now, I only use thanks certified gaming mode, so in summary, the TH gaming mode does not deliver more saturation or vibrant colors, but with a few tweaks you can restore that lost color.

Now next thing I want to talk about is the refresh rate or speed being that this is a 120 hertz native panel, very smooth transitions and image retention. In my opinion, clarity is great, while playing fast-paced like shooters as well as side, strollers and platformers. Keeping the image, retained and refined as motion occurs overall for this panel, I give it a solid thumbs up, in my opinion, for approval. This is a perfect panel for just clarity. I know this kind of videos that I've been doing hasn't showed that in a lot of ways, but from what I am seeing.

Trust me this is a very clear panel input lag, so this is where the TCL shines the most. For me, I have never experienced input. Latency this low on a television ever not my OLED, not my Samsung led, this set hand downbeats both of them. Now I don't have equipment to actually show you the technical and prove it, but I am an advent. Gamer I'll be showcasing that in some footage, and I'm very twitchy.

So this had me changing my sensitivity because I felt as if I was no longer hitting my headshots because of how quickly the reticle would move from me pushing my uh joystick, so it actually made me change my settings. I usually run on a very high sensitivity in order to supplement the lag, but I had to lower that because it was not needed and that's how much of a difference it made when it came to this game mode in this television and this input latency next up, we got rise time. This feature ensures low, dark to light rise time transitions um. This is something I couldn't see any immediate benefit from. It could work in conjunction with the clarity and like the speed of the image, but not much that I can test with the naked eye.

What I will say is moving from a dark to light location and gaming happens pretty often so that mostly where black levels come into play and really test a budget set with no visual difference, I would say it more aligns to clarity and refining motion uh, which this set does well, in my opinion. Lastly, we have auto low latency mode, switching to game mode immediately upon recognizing a signal. It does this very well whether it be HDR or regular gaming. I had no issues, they didn't have to go black and then start up. It was something that was immediate and quick, and that's what I enjoy about this television that is very snappy and quick.

So to sum it all up, I appreciate what thanks did in creating like a standardized functions and requirements necessary to get the certification, because it raises the bar as well as it makes other manufacturers become certified and brings that uniformity to the TV space for gamers, which is me, I think, TCL showcase a lot of what that mode can do well and some that needs improvement or better implementation. Honestly, they could probably fix my color issues with the update, but as of now where it stands, I did have color issues and I did have the tweak, but outside that everything else worked straight out the gate, and it worked well. So thinking that this was really a gimmick, I'm glad it actually proved me wrong, and the features don't really stop there. When it comes to this budget television, it has HDR 10, adobe vision, adobe Atmos, it has the 120 hertz panel variable refresh rate it has Roku. Roku is probably the best UI I have experienced in a long time.

I'm telling you, as I was working on this thing, and I was going back to my lg and my Samsung. I just felt slow, it felt sluggish, and I felt as if this budget television was out doing something I paid thousands of dollars, for I didn't pay them thousands of dollars for either one of them, because I'm very cheap, but I people paid thousands of dollars for this television. So, in my opinion, this thing is feature heavy has a decent screen black levels, and overall this is a solid television. Reflections are handled well, just as good as my Samsung Qlik understanding sound is one of the most important parts of the viewing experience. I can say that, right out of the box without any additional assistance, the sound of dialogue is crisp and clear and the sound effects within movies are balanced.

Well, you don't have dialogue sounding higher than the audio for the sound effects or anything like that. It sounds perfect, and this was prominent, I'm talking about in the 17 and 25 level. It still kept that clarity, even as I went higher, that's amazing for a budget television. So I have all this praise. What do I actually don't like about the television? Well, I would say the picture, and this is kind of tricky, because I actually enjoyed the picture after allowing the television to stay on for a while and coming back to it.

Some of my bleed and cloudiness issues. Kinda went away. I read online, sometimes you have to, let the panel in the lights heat up, maybe that's what it was, but some of my issues went away granted. Not all of my issues went away. There is still heavy clouding around certain areas when it's trying to go from black to white.

It's if it's prominent. The strange thing about this is that when it's in motion it becomes less cloudy versus when it's standing still hear me out. So when it's smaller, it doesn't have that issue, but when it's huge it has such a significant issue. I don't understand it, I'm assuming it's because of the mini LEDs and the mini LEDs, having so many zones that when it comes to a bigger item, it causes it to where it has more cloudiness, because it's trying to heat up more zones- and this could be reeled in with some software, but as of now it is very weird. I will say that it's a very weird situation.

No, it doesn't take away from my experience. Now isn't if it's not as terrible as it is may look in these images. It may look on top on people's screens, it's not as terrible as people make it out to be, but it is there be sure of that, when you're purchasing to be sure that you're not expecting OLED quality black levels on a q-led television understand that this is still backlit. This was something I had to come to terms with when I first started looking at this thing, I was what do I want from this? What do I want this to be? Do I want to have those inky blacks, like my old LED, and I started crushing some of my actual detail to get that? But the thing is this ain't, no OLED, and you shouldn't treat it that way. So I had to reel out my settings.

I had to go back and really think about what I wanted out this television and what I really wanted out. This television is to be on par with my led Samsung and that's what it does. This is the television that's going to get you the closest to these high-end, LED TVs out there, like from the Sony from the Samsung. This will get you there, and it's at a budget friendly price, and it has more features than the older ones. So, if you're even really thinking about it, this is a no-brainer in a lot of situations.

It's just dealing with. You know the noise and TCL's uniformity issues they cannot. They cannot uniform their panels to save their lives. I don't I don't understand it. I don't get it, but that is the case.

You have to be able to try and give yours your account your panel, some time to heat up, see if it changes, but for some strange reason they have the worst quality control I have ever seen, because if I look at other people's videos, if I go online and hear the horror stories- and they have to you- know re issue out new panels each and every time it's crazy, I don't get that from the experience of a lg or a Samsung, but that's what you kind of get when you're playing with these low-end budget-friendly t televisions, they don't they kind of cut corners to make sure that you're getting the features that you need at the price that they want you to get it at okay. So keep that in mind as you're shopping is something that you want to take note of now. I know you're thinking. Well, BCD expectations are high. This is a 20 20 q lead with many LEDs in these are supposed to be revolutionary.

Understand that all technology isn't revolutionary. There was Blu-ray and then there was HD. Blue HD went away so there's. Sometimes there are gimmicky things and then sometimes you just have to read between the lines and understand that you're still getting a refined and pretty damn good panel you're getting a perfect set. If you just get out the space of these, many LEDs are supposed to be revolutionary because you don't necessarily have to have a revolution to have a great set, and that's all I'm going to say on that.

Overall I enjoyed this TCL. This is not going to be my last one. I enjoyed the UI. I enjoyed the clarity I enjoyed the latency. Furthermore, I enjoyed the picture for the most part.

Black screens definitely need some work, and they definitely need to work on how they utilize their local dimming. But for me to say that this is a bad television is not something I want to do. Nor do I feel at heart, so I am going to recommend this television for anybody going into the Xbox Series X or PS5 generation, and you're looking to get a good, solid TV with a lot of features. This is the one. This is the one that's going to actually bring in that next generation.

This is the one I'm going to be recommending to people as they pick up their PS5, and they want to cut cost on certain things. This is the one you can always have a better picture, but you're going to pay for it, and that's all I have for this. That's all I need to say I want to thank you guys for listening. Does this help in your purchase decision? Does this make it does this? Does the mo, like even matter, does the technology and the features matter to you? Do you really just want that pristine? Viewing experience? I think you should be looking into older sleds. Then I think you should really be looking into that.

If that's something that you really want to showcase and believe in and that's that's what you need, I suggest looking at some older sleds, you don't have to necessarily get the 2020. You can look at the 2017.2018 market use your resale, so that was how that would be my suggestion for anybody that cannot get over the black screens and the blooming and all that stuff. But anybody that's a gamer and anybody. That's really just looking for a solid purchase. This is it, thanks for watching.

I will talk to you guys in the next one peace you.
