Xiaomi Mi 10S - Unboxing & Thoughts: Snapdragon 870 Beast!

Hey everyone it's jams from namespace well before I get into this video, I want to announce the winner of the last giveaway, which was the telephone w3, and it can do pro that winner is stag. So if you get this message, make sure that you contact me we'll organize shipping and now to announce my next giveaway, I'm giving away the staff this video, the Xiaomi me 10 s, all you have to do to have a chance to win, is been a subscriber to my channel so subscribe, and I'll pick a random winner in a future video. Let's proceed with the video, hey everyone, it's jams from namespace- and I hope you're doing well got an interesting video here. This is the Xiaomi 10 s. Now this is the follow-up to last year's me 10, and it's essentially the s model, much like how apple used to do the s model with all of their iPhones. This is effectively a souped up version of the mi 10 from last year, but, interestingly, having a look at some specs and just the general aesthetics, I feel that it has a lot in common with this year's me 11.

So I was interested to get this phone because it has the snapdragon 870 processors. This is my first snapdragon 870 processors of the year. It's an interesting processor. It's basically an overclocked 865, plus it's an interesting processor, because it doesn't do much other than give you an extra 0.1 gigahertz speed, which is not massive, so marginal speed, improvement, there's not much in terms of graphical improvements or any other features, but yeah. Furthermore, it has a little of a performance boost, and it's interesting because it's a much cheaper alternative to the 888.

So you should get some phones out there with perfect performances using the 870 processor that comes in a lot cheaper and the camera system includes 108, megapixel, whopper, and we'll go more into the camera. When we open the phone box- and you can get this phone in either eight gigabytes or 12 gigabytes. Of course, the snapdragon 870 processors, which does support 5g battery, is about 4800 Williams, so not the biggest but pretty substantial, regardless gorilla, glass, 5 fast charging, 33 watts. It has wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, no IPA rating, but it is splash resistant. Now like the me11.

This actually comes with the speakers which are tuned by Harman Kardon as well, and this one is going to fetch you about 669. However, I managed to get this for about 420 pounds, which is about 500 using a discount code that I had considering all the specs to get this phone for about that amount of money.400 is. I actually think that's perfect value, so the only thing to do now is obviously open the box. So I ordered this phone from trading Shenzhen. By the way you can't get this phone officially from the Xiaomi outlets in the UK.

You have to get it on import, so a nicely packaged box. This will be your paperwork. So your warranty, your instructions, sim card tray, open up instructions in Chinese, so no use to me that is an USB type-c to audio jack adapter. So that's pretty cool that they give that to you in the box. Okay, let's have a look standard.

Silicon case, the type that you get from really cheap of eBay, but it's good that they put it in the box, because, when you're ordering things from import to order a case, you're often ordering it up from China- and it can take a good couple of weeks to get to you so very happy that they gave that to us, of course, the phone itself and that's it so no charger in the box. So they are following suite with that. God awful trend of companies not providing charges. Most of us have spare charges around. But still, if you don't, it's an extra expense.

Finally, the phone itself. So let's have a little look now you can get three colors. I believe you can get white black and this kind of like sky blue. So this is really cool. I really like this, so this has a blue hue with kind of like gradient, and I think at the bottom its lighter, and it gets darker at the top.

For me, it's reminiscent of the Huawei p30, the aura colorway, not the P30 Pro just the standard, the bog-standard p30. I had this aura colorway, which is very similar to this. Now. This camera sensor has four cameras on it. The camera module actually does look quite similar to the mi 11.

In my opinion, over the mi 10, it looks more similar to the mi 11. The speakers are meant to be designed by Harman Kardon, but, unlike the 11, it doesn't actually have the Harman Kardon branding on it. Well, it does on the box, there's a lot of action going on at the bottom, so your sim card tray USB type c, and your speakers, like I say these speakers are designed by Harman Kardon, which are very good audio brand. Nothing on the left hand, side stereo speakers, so your top has the speaker and an infrared pointer at the top as well. So you can use as a there's a Xiaomi mi remote, which you can use to control your infrared products, your TV, your sky boxes, side.

Here the right-hand side is your volume clicker and your power button. As mentioned no headphone jack anywhere, it's a curved display, so the screen tapers off a little. It's its actually a lot more abrupt than what you get on the recent Samsung, but not quite as abrupt as something such as the Motorola edge, plus initial thoughts on size. It's a pretty substantial size. Furthermore, it's not a whopper like the um Samsung s21 ultra, which is absolutely huge, but it's pretty big but feels okay in the hand.

Furthermore, it's not too overwhelmingly big weight, wise, it's nice! Let's turn it on now. Let's have a little look. Okay, it's interesting! It goes straight in, so obviously I've got this from trading Shenzhen, so they obviously do initial setup um to make sure that it will work in the UK and Europe. So I don't have the initial setup screen. This phone is not set up and ready with all my contacts and details and apps.

So I'm going to get that done now, but before I do that, let's turn this phone to its full brightness. So we can explore the screen somewhat. So this phone is a full HD 90 hertz display, so the pixels per inch on this one is about 386, which is not super high dense, it's pretty average. I mean bear minus full HD display, spread over 6.7 inches there about. So it's quite a big display in full HD spread over such a large real estate.

Obviously, the pixel density is not going to be super intense on first force, the brightness is pretty good and the quality of the display is really nice. I love this wallpaper in the background that kind of like changes orientation as you flick through the pages- that's really cool. It looks like you can jump right in. It's got this 3d effect. Furthermore, it's awesome right.

So the only thing for me to do now is to set up all my apps and get all my data across and play with it for the next 24 hours really. So I can give you my force so stick around for that. I will see you in a bit okay, so I'm back, and I've spent 24 frustrating hours with this phone. Now this phone has got some software problems which I'm going to get onto any second, but first and foremost, this is the always on display. You get a selection of graphics that you can use, and I'm using this really cool eclipse one.

It looks really cool in the settings, there's a whole massive before of choices that you can use, but this is my favorite one. Also, in regard to the case. Remember they give you a free case. It's all right. It does a job until you get like a more premium case, but the problem with this is that it's quite slippy like you, you can just be holding it in your hand, and it just comes off, which is not really the point of the case.

Furthermore, it should always be firmly attached to the actual body of the phone and this one just easily slips off whilst you're using a phone. So it's not the greatest of case, but it's free at the end of the day, and it's some protection now before I deep dive into all the you know the aspects such as the screen um and the camera and everything else. This phone is really quite frustrating because there's so many software problems. Now you have to remember that this is an imported phone from China when you import a phone which is just for Chinese markets only, you are always taking a risk, and it reminds me of the problems that I had with the IQ neo3 when I bought. That is a few that I did a long time ago.

So you have to remember that normally the language is fully in Chinese. The vendors that you buy this off. They install the Google Play Services onto it because it's actually not there. So what you end up doing is you have to do a lot of work just to get this phone having any sort of semblance of a westernized phone which is somewhat usable now that process was very frustrating because I couldn't log into my Google account and just have all the apps and data just come across. I had to use apps like share me and bring all the apps individually across which took forever the fingerprint setup.

I mean it works fine. You know, I'm in also notice that animation is really cool. I really like that animation. Let's show you that animation again keep an eye on the wallpaper, and you just zoom in onto the surface of the planet, and it is pretty cool. I have to give them credit, that's cool, but yeah, setting up the fingerprint, for this was an absolute nightmare.

So, as you see it works, but it wouldn't understand my fingerprint whilst trying to set it up when you go into the settings, and you want to add a fingerprint, you see it's just it's really struggling and sometimes- and sometimes it just will kick you out of it, or you just keep on doing it all the way till you get to the end which takes ages by the way. Then it will just kick you out, and you have to do it all over again. It took me forever to get the free fingerprints um now registered with this phone took me forever to get that registered. Let's just talk about a few of these software glitches for a moment. Okay, now one of them is it won't.

Let me go into links. So if I'm on Facebook or Instagram and someone posts a link, try and go, do you see that it comes out? It doesn't go to the link. Let's do it again, so I'm going to try that again right, there's a link here, someone's posted a YouTube video. I click on it. Okay, this time it's loaded, but you saw beforehand.

It kicked me out and that's a very frustrating problem, so sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't so many times. I've seen a link that someone's posted doesn't have to be on. Facebook can literally be anywhere. I click on it, and it just kicks me out now watch this.

If I come out of Facebook, there should be a weird kind of like glitch animation. Do you see that up there, the Facebook symbol? Let's do that again keep an eye on the top left here? Okay, there? What is that? It just looks unsightly. I don't like the way it looks, and for me that isn't normal, I think that's a glitch. I don't think that's part of the animation that Xiaomi wanted. Furthermore, I just think that's a glitch! Okay, emails are incredibly important to me.

You know I work from home and I have a lot of important stuff that I do via communication, which is done by email right. So, first, I set up the emails using this email app here. Blu email the widget doesn't work. Click on the email, app just comes out again, just like what happens on Facebook. So another problem is: is missing apps, so you know here's all my media apps that I use quite prolifically, but you notice, I haven't, got my Netflix or Disney plus, which I watch a lot of content on, because they're not available they're not available to download um.

They just don't work on this phone and I don't know why that it is android. At the end of the day, it's android 11 and prime video can download now TV can download, but for whatever reason, Disney plus and Netflix know- and that is quite annoying because I watch a lot of stuff on those uh two apps. The other thing I don't like about this is its over invasive now. I know that's quite common in Chinese phones, but you don't get this problem when you buy a Xiaomi phone in the UK and what I mean by over invasive, it literally asks you permission for everything. If you try and attach something to WhatsApp, it asks for permission.

If you want to open your camera on, WhatsApp is asking for permission. If you open my business or teams from Microsoft, it's asking you permission to open it, because it's a third-party app. I mean it's Microsoft. At the end of today, one of the biggest most trusted tech companies out there. Why are you asking permission, and also you are just completely locked in to everything Xiaomi? So, for example, if you want to set up a different launcher, so you've got your default launchers here, okay, so you've got the standard launcher which I didn't like, and I'm using the pocket launcher, because I like its more simplified layout with the app drawer.

But if I wanted to choose Microsoft, launcher look, it says error as launcher. Apps from third parties may result in problems like leaked data, abnormal battery drain and lagging only those verified by mini can be set as your default launcher. Why I want the flexibility to choose? Whichever launcher I want so yeah, I'm not happy with that. That kind of irritates me a lot, so that's just me getting the rant about the software out of the way. So let's talk a little about the hardware, okay, because the hardware on this is very good.

So, first and foremost the screen is absolutely fantastic. You know it is an AMOLED display. The colors are really nice. Its night hurts it's buttery smooth, it's not the brightest display, but it's pretty bright. I was just out in the sunshine today, and it looked absolutely fine.

It's a nice display and even though it's only 386 pixels per inch, it seems reasonably sharp as well as you don't look at it and think. Oh, the quality is bad. You don't at all it's actually very sharp. It seems very sharp, actually sharper than what the PPI actually is. It seems like it's a sharper display, so yeah media on this is really quite good um and that is combined with its blistering performance.

So, even though it's got all of these software glitches, the actual sort of like smoothness and operation of it works really, really rapid. Now, if I open up the benchmark scores, can you believe this now? I want to open up the geek bench scores that I did earlier today go to history and I click on it, and it forces out the app you see. This is the problem that I get. I can't even do a proper video for you because of stupid glitches. Luckily, you can see the scores here right.

So single core is 1 000, which is rapid. That is super quick and the multi-core score is 3 343. So the performance on this with the 870 processor is really quite good in terms of just pure speed. As you can see, gaming is absolutely fine, and this works smoothly frame rate is high. Rendering is quick now.

Another thing I want to mention is obviously the Harman Kardon speakers. The speakers on this are absolutely banging seriously, so they're stereo speakers, and they've got so much warmth in the mid, the low end on the bass it just it. It literally rivals like a miniature Bluetooth. Speaker like this. You don't even need one, because the sound quality is so good seriously.

You can just play that in the background um and fill in a whole room with some good music just using this phone, nothing else, but the phone speakers- okay. So let's talk cameras. So on the back here we have a main sensor which is 108 megapixels with a 1.7 aperture. So that's pretty substantial on the bottom. There you have 32 megapixels, ultra-wide camera, which has 2.4 aperture and then the bottom to a macro and a depth camera to help with close-up shots and portrait shots um, and they are both eight megapixels with also 2.4 aperture. So the camera performance is pretty good.

I've done a quick sort of like a photo shoot which I'll flash some pictures here just to get a general senses of how good the cameras are, and they're pretty good. Now, I'm not going to give you the full low down on how good the cameras are, but Xiaomi's higher end cameras tend to be some of the best on the market and from what I've sensed from just taking these few quick pictures. I can tell that this is a good camera um, but I am going to do a full camera review going in depth on everything. You know all types of pictures facing some facing away: room photos, night, shots, camera, stabilization tests for the videos' portrait mode. All of that type of stuff will come in a follow-up video, so if you want to see that make sure you're subscribed yeah, but really that's my unboxing for this video and that's my initial thoughts.

So if I summarize my last 24 hours with this phone, I think this phone has got some really promising hardware I mean the screen is great: it looks fantastic. The design is really nice, it has promising cameras. The performance is very good. Very rapid, the benchmark scores were impressive, and the speakers are absolutely awesome. Some of the best speakers I've ever heard on a phone actually, to be honest, they're really, really good speakers, but this phone is massively let down by the problems with the software.

Now I don't know if it would be the same problems that you would get if you bought this phone in China and used it on its initial Chinese settings. I don't know if the problems are brought on by the fact that you're adapting it for UK European us market whatever, but there's so many things I mean you've seen so many times the app falls out. Emails are almost inaccessible setting it up was an absolute nightmare. You've got those weird glitchy animations that shouldn't be there and there's missing apps, so you're not really getting the full experience. You want from your phone, and you know if you're buying a phone if you're investing money, even though I think this is on a hardware point of view, a bargain, because the hardware that you get for this amount money is ridiculously good.

Furthermore, you know when the software lets it down. I think you're just wasting your money. You know, hopefully some software updates come. You know I'm going to be playing around with this phone for the next two weeks. Obviously I want to do a full review.

Hopefully software updates come and can fix it. Um, but if they don't, then you know, unfortunately, my experience with this phone will be tainted to the point that I just don't like the phone, and it's a shame, because I was quite excited about getting this because my last Xiaomi, the Xiaomi note 10 pro I absolutely loved, and that was my daily driver for about six months, and I was expecting to make this my daily driver, but truth be told. I'm going to go back to my Samsung s21 ultra anyway. That's what I think. Let me know what you think in the comments remember subscribe to this video comment and, like you'll, stand the chance to win this phone, I'm giving it away.

This will be my next giveaway and congratulations to stag for winning the last giveaway make sure you reach out to me, and we can organize the shipping for that anyway. This is jams from namespace. That's another video done. I hope you enjoyed it I'll, see you for the next one.
