TCL 20 Pro 5G - Unboxing & First Impressions

Hey, what's going on, everybody welcome to PTR practical tech reviews. I am your host Brandon thanks, so much for stopping by in this video we're going to talk about the recently released TCL pro 5g. This is TCL's second year in a row, making a whole series of devices shout out to TCL for sending this device over for review, just as a quick disclaimer in no way shape or form. Am I compensated for making these videos these uh? These opinions of this particular device are mine and mine alone, and TCO will see it at the same time that you do so without further ado. Let's go ahead and get into the unboxing and first impressions of this device. So for the sake of argument, let's go ahead and take a look and see what you will get inside your box, you're going to get your power, brick and cable, USB type c, your reading material, which you will never read and a clear case, shout out to TCL for putting the case inside a box yeah all right.

So here's what we came for the piece they resist on the phone itself again. This is the tcl20 pro 5g. I've never seen one in person. So let's go ahead and take a look slide it out if it could taste all right boy. Okay, what is this color? This is marine blue.

Okay, there are two colors in the pro model, uh series floating around out there's. I think it's called moon dust black and then this thing, the marine blue boy, look at that it might show up green, but it says blue, but it's like a bluish green man. You just got to see it in person like this phone uh, no joke like in all impressions and all rare good and all sincerity. I can't even speak. This is probably the prettiest phone I have ever held no joke, literally the prettiest phone that I have ever held glass back, two-tone, uh polish.

I don't think I've ever seen that in the phone before other than what TCL has done, there may have been a couple others I think that have been actually taking it back. I think Huawei may have done that years ago, but so first phone that I've ever owned, that does this polished brushed. Oh, now. How well is that going to hold up over time unless you're, one of those individuals who like to rock a phone raw yeah, you rock it raw you're gonna, get what you're going to get, but if you put a case on it, it'll last like this for a long time I mean look at that. I mean they took so much.

They paid so much attention to detail. I mean you can't really see it and get the full effect, but once you get one in your hand, you'll understand even the rings around the cameras have a texture to them, so just everything shimmers, just ever so slightly, but so cleanly, that's dope! You got your light here. The LED lights. There's no camera bump. Look at that.

The only thing that protrudes- and I mean ever so slightly- is the camera the lens. Are they the lighting? Look at that I mean jeez guys. This is just a first impression video, so we're not going to dive deep into this phone. Um, I'm speechless, but let's take a walk around uh this phone here, so you got your power button power button. It is uh, not textured, but it is.

You can see that there is a difference there, because it's got an orange button there. I do believe this is probably your yep, your volume up and down button and in old TCL fashion. They've got a button here that you can. I think you can map these out to it. Whatever you want um, it's textured there.

So you know the difference. Pretty cool uh 6.7 inch display 1080p AMOLED USB here um, that is your sim tray single firing bottom speaker uh. I do believe that they brought back the infrared. Blaster I mean would make sense TCL they have TVs, so it would make sense for them to have an infrared blaster in their phone and headphone jack. That is it.

As far as around the body of this phone, I mean just take a look at that I mean that's just gorgeous you all I mean yeah. There are a lot of phones out there that have you know the glass sandwich cool, but if you're going to do it, do it right and make it your own? I mean they did a wonderful job. On this I mean that's just, just flipping gorgeous. So let's go ahead. I'm going to pause.

The video here get my information set up in this phone, and we'll kind of take a walk around the UI, and you see what you think. Okay. So now we've got some things set up in the phone, just some basic information. I want to talk about a couple of things that I think are noteworthy so, first and foremost the size again, the screen size is 6.7 inches with a 21 by 9 aspect ratio. Essentially what that's going to mean you're, going to notice that this phone feels very narrow despite being very tall, so whether you have large hands small hands, this phone is going to feel comfortable now.

Is it going to be one-handed for most people, probably not, but again at least you'll be able to grip the phone comfortably, regardless of your hand, size. So there's that speaking of the display, one of the things that this phone boasts is that of an in-display fingerprint sensor. That's pretty dope! So let's go ahead and try this out pretty fast. In my opinion, works just well boom 100 of the time now there are some phones out there that operate faster, they're, going to be some YouTubers out there. That say: oh! This is too slow again.

Look at the price point: okay and look at the fact this is TC. You know second go around with their first uh with a phone with their own branding on it, and I think they did a very good job. So there's that um, the phone has kind of a slight curve display. Some people may find that okay, some people will find maybe find that old, I'm old school I'm used to flatting displays. But again you know at least the curves aren't either overly pronounced um just enough not completely flush, not completely straight, but it is what it is.

Some say it gives you more of an immersive experience, but that's to each own um. You also are going to have an always on display um, so that's kind of nice there um, you know I haven't really played around anymore with the phone I said, would expect you know some gaming um, some video uh footage and what not to test out um, but you know just something to be mindful of going back to the display. There are going to be phones in this price range of around 499 that have either a 90 or in some cases, 120 hertz refresh rate. Honestly, I don't think you're going to notice that much of a difference to be totally honest with you from day to day usage, there might be some instances where you would notice it is that a dealbreaker in my opinion, absolutely not. I think this phone for the money so far from an initial impressions' perspective.

It does the job very well. The screen is very bright, we'll test daytime, brightness um again we'll test gaming and things like that in a future video. But again, this is just an initial impression. Video um things seem to run fairly smoothly here, no real hiccups or anything like that. Getting in and out of stuff here, uh we'll just go into the play, store, and we'll open up another.

Let's see here we'll open up um, I don't have any real apps downloaded on here. Just yet we'll open up YouTube. You know getting in between stuff, it's fairly easy um. Once you go through the setup process, you know it's going to give you the options of how you want your um, how you want your apps to be shown and whatnot, do you want to old school? Do you want it like an app drawer, there's a lot of versatility with this phone, in my opinion, and I think um again with the fact that they give you those options versus just telling you how you're going to use your phone is another plus, in my opinion, um? But with that being said, you know that's kind of it with this little walk-around one. Well, there you guys have the impressions of the tcl20 pro 5g.

So far, so good it looks good um did I say it looks good and um one two three! Oh yes, this thing looks good um beside that. It feels great in the hand that 21 by nine aspect ratio I'm glad they stuck with it. They could have gone in a different direction, but they didn't, so it feels great in the hand again it looks good the display, despite it not being you know, 4k, it's fine, it's 1080p, and it does a great job at it. Button placement everything feels right. The fact that it has no camera bump is just an impressive, impressive feat, even in 2021, so shout out to TCL for doing that.

Um and again special. Thank you to the folks over at TCL, for sending this phone out for review. Definitely appreciate the opportunity of working with you again in 2021.
