TCL 10 5G UW - Review!

Hey there guys and welcome back to another video in today's video. I'm going to give you my review of the TCL 10 5g UW, all right and first just to give you some specs on the TCL 10 5g UW. The pricing on this phone is just 400, so this is probably one of the cheapest 5g full 5g phones. You can buy right now, and it does come in at just 16.66 a month if you decided to finance it on Verizon. So this is a Verizon exclusive phone, but as it does have in the name, it does have 5g and ultra-wideband. So this does cover Verizon's ultra-wideband network, which is really cool, so you'll get the fastest speeds on this phone for our display.

We have a 6.53 inch, full HD plus display it's an lcd coming in at a resolution of 2340x1080, we have an aspect ratio of 19.5 to 9, and they also feature their next vision technology in this display, which I'll show you in just a little for our processor, we have a Qualcomm, snapdragon, 765 g. We have six gigs of ram on board. Furthermore, we also have 128 gigs of storage, so that's actually pretty good uh for a phone at this price point. You can expand that also via micros, which is in the sim card slot, and you can expand that up to 256 gigs. This also features android 10, of course, and we're on the October 5th 2020 security patch level.

But one thing I will say is that TCL is perfect with actually getting updates to their unlocked phones, so this might be a Verizon issue. The reason it's on the October one, because the other phones that they offer that are unlocked are on the newest security patch. For our cameras on the front, we do have a punch, hole, camera up at the left-hand corner and that one is a 16 megapixel camera, and it can capture video up to 1080p at 30 frames per second for our rear cameras. We have three, so we have a 48 megapixel uh camera as our primary, an 8 megapixel wide sensor and a 5 megapixel macro sensor, and they are flanked by two LED flashes, and then you can also see for our biometrics. We do have a rear mounted fingerprint scanner right above the TCL logo there, so the TCL 105 gun also has a 4500 William hour battery, which has been perfect.

In my experience so far we have USB c for charging, and it does offer fast charging for connectivity. Of course, we have 5g ultra-wide band for Wi-Fi. We have 802.11 b g n and ac offers Wi-Fi direct and Wi-Fi display and Bluetooth 5.0. Now you may be wondering what comes in the box. So, as you can see, we have our box here.

It has the phone picture of the phone front and back of course we would have gotten our device on top on the inside. We get our documentation, quick reference guide, as well as a sim eject tool and on the inside we would get. We would also get our USB c to USB a charging cable, and it is braided, so it looks really nice, and we also get our fast charging brick with TCL branding here. Taking a look at the design of the phone on the front you can see, we have this beautiful 6.53 inch display. So again, it is full HD plus.

So it's going to look really, really nice, and you can see going around here. We have very minimal bezel going around the phone, and we have our punch hole camera up here in the left corner at the top. We have our earpiece, which is kind of hidden away. Actually, if you kind of look at that, it's kind of hidden away as the uh as the edge of the phone curves right there, which is pretty interesting at the bottom, we do have a little of a chin, but of course it is an lcd. So that's to be expected.

But overall I think the display looks really nice and of course again it has that next vision technology. So, as you can see on the side, we have a sim card tray and our micro SD all in one right there- and this is a nice shiny frame on the bottom. We have our USB for charging. We have our speaker and microphone there. On the other side, we have our volume and our power key, and the volume is just both all in one kind of deal so up for up and down for down and, of course, the shiny frame going all the way around.

On the top you can see. We have a microphone and our 3.5 uh jack for headphones, so you can actually use regular headphones with this, which is nice. Taking a look at the back, you can see we have our triple camera setup with those two LED flashes now that is really nice, also that it doesn't actually jut out a lot. So no real big hump, like some of these other phones and checking out the back of the phone you can see. We have our triple camera setup as well as our two LED flashes, and this actually doesn't jut out too much.

So it's not a huge hump, like some other phones. So a lot of phones have pretty large camera humps, but this one actually manages to make it very minimal right below that you can see. We have our fingerprint sensor. We have a TCL branding, and then we have the Verizon 5g branding and one thing to note with this phone it has a unique design on the back. So I really like this now this is plastic, but it just looks really, really cool now.

I know this is kind of subjective um, but I really like this. It kind of reminds me of feathers on a know on like a, don't know what bird but kind of reminds me. It reminds me of feathers because of the way the light hits it just really, really cool. I really like this. I really like this design just to show you.

The fingerprint scanner is pretty quick, so popping on there. You can see it's pretty much instant, so the reading on this is very, very good one. Other thing I really like about the tcl10 5g UW is it even though it is plastic? It's not super light, like some other phones, so it actually has a little of heft to it. Kind of feels good in the hand and uh doesn't feel like it's going to break if you drop it. So if the tcl105g UW looks a little familiar, it's because it's based on a design from another phone that they offered last year and that's the TCL 10l.

So you can see the big difference, of course, is the uh the pattern, that's on the back of the phone as well as the colors, but you can see the camera layout is pretty similar on the 10l. It actually has one extra camera, but this one is actually a cheaper phone, so it's not going to have uh the same camera lenses on the as the 5g UW does, but same fingerprint scanner and I believe the same screen also on both of these now. One difference I did notice with the 10 l and the 105 gun is the smart key is missing on the 10 5g UW, which is kind of disappointing. So, if you didn't know, the smart key is actually a key that can be assigned with different presses. So if you press it once you can assign it to do a task press it twice to do a task or press it three times to do a task, and it's um a really nice inclusion.

So, unfortunately, if you get the 105g UW, you don't get the smart key. The TCL 105g UW does run android 10 and has TCL's UI on top, which is pretty quick and fluid. One of the cool features from the tcl10 5g UW is called super Bluetooth. So what you can do with this is connected up to four audio devices at one time, so you can connect either headphones or speakers, and you can have a really cool uh experience. So, if you're, a bunch of friends that you want to share some music with or whatever you can do that with this phone, it's a pretty cool feature.

I did test this out on one of my other videos on a different TCL device, and I'll leave a link up above. If you want to check that out for security, you can use the fingerprint scanner on the back, or you do have a face unlock if you want to use that, but not only that you have a couple of interesting features that the fingerprint sensor offers. So, as you can see here, you can clear all notifications by double touching the fingerprint scanner to clear them. All. You can take a photo by just touching this, the scanner you can go back to the home screen.

If you long press it while you're in an application, you can pick up a call with it. You can show your notification panel, so you have a couple different little features that go along with this fingerprint scanner. It's pretty cool feature is this included smart manager, so this can optimize your phone. So if something is running slowly or if there's a ram hogged up, you can just go in here. It'll tell you what can be optimized, you can click that it'll tell you what it'll do so right here, it's going to optimize the memory and, as you can see, it's just going to go ahead and do that and voil?.

So your phone will run uh at a really great speed all the time and for performance. You can see on our geek bench score. We have a 607 single core and an 1877 multi-core score, so pretty good for a mid-range device. We also have six gigs of ram, so this should be great at multitasking. Also, right now, we'll do a quick social media test, so we're going to test out three different apps and see how well they run so.

First we'll go ahead and try twitter. As you can see that loaded up pretty quick, you have pretty smooth scrolling, you can see images. Are loading quickly, also open up a new tweet go back to the top check out our fleets and, as you can see, this phone just runs really, really well and next we'll try out Instagram, as you can see that loads up quickly. Also, I'm going to go to our camera. Double tap go back last, app we'll check out is tick-tock.

I do the sound off, so we don't hear anything, but, as you can see, videos come up quickly, and it works just great for our speakers. We only have just the one at the bottom, so this doesn't have dual firing speakers or stereo speakers, unfortunately, but it is still pretty loud. So I'll give you a quick speaker test, taking a quick look at our display. We have a really beautiful, 6.53 inch lcd. It does have full HD plus resolution, and it does look really, really good.

So this is a little 4k sample on YouTube. It goes up to 1080p at 60 frames per second, but one other thing that's offered with the TCL phones is the next vision technology. So, as you can see in the settings, we have a next vision setting and if we go in here we have visual enhancement and what it does. Is it automatically adjusts your contrast, sharpness and saturation to make the screen image clear with a richer depth of detail. So if we turn that on you'll see what it does, it changes this sample image and shows that it just pops the colors.

We also have that SDR to HDR, and then we also have a reading mode so optimize the screen display to make it more comfortable for reading, also as an e-book reader. Now you also can adjust the color temperature color mode and temperature, so you can turn it to standard if it's off, but when the next vision technology is on, it is in vivid mode, and you can adjust it to warmer or cooler temperatures, or you can have adaptive tone on if you want to turn that on, and it will adapt it based on whatever you're watching on your screen, and here is that same video that we were just looking at just a moment ago with the next vision technology turned on and what you'll notice is that colors are a lot more saturated. They just pop a lot more, and it looks really, really nice. So I do like the experience when you're watching videos with next vision. However, again I wish I could turn it off on certain apps or just have it on for videos now one more place that this phone shines is in its camera.

We do have a few on this, so we actually have a total of four. We have that 16 megapixel up front. Furthermore, we have the three on the back, so we have the 48 megapixel the wide lens, as well as the macro lens and those two LED flashes on the back. You can do up to 10x zoom on this. We have a portrait mode.

We have a super night mode as well as a pro mode where you can adjust a bunch of different things. So for video on the front, you can do 1080p at 30 frames per second on the back. You can do video up to 4k at 30 frames per second, so not like the super highest resolution or anything, but it still does take really nice video and for photos you can. It does take it at 12 megapixels on the back camera, but you can take it at the full 48 if you want to so. Let me go ahead and show you a couple samples from this camera.

Yes and here's a quick sample, video from the front facing camera on the TCL 105 gun, and it can do 1080p at 30 frames per second, so the tcl105guw does have a long name, but it is short on price, so it is only 400 bucks for this full 5g phone, and I have to say I really like this phone again. I really like the build quality of it. It has a nice heft to it. The screen on this is beautiful. Connectivity was perfect.

You don't get the full speeds that the flagship phones get. I think, just due to the modem that they used in this phone, but you are still getting full 5g ultra-wide band experience with this phone, which is really nice. The cameras on these are actually fantastic, and one of the highlights, I think, of this phone that really blew me away was just the battery life because it not only lasts all day, but it has perfect standby time. So if you don't use your phone for quite a while this thing it just will chug along and stay alive forever. So it is a really, really good phone um.

So again it has a lot to offer for a low price and um. I definitely recommend this phone if you're looking for an inexpensive, 5g phone, I also do really like that design on the back. So there were a couple compromises made with the phone. Unfortunately, so there is no wireless charging included, but it does have fast charging. So that's still pretty good.

They didn't include some other TCL features that they had in other phones, so they didn't include the smart key which again you would press once to initiate one task or twice for another task, which I really liked, and then they had a feature in the tcl10 pro where you could slide over, and you had your recent apps list, and you had a ruler, so you could actually use your phone as a ruler. Of course, it's only 6.53 inches, but still a nice little feature that was included um, so those little TCL features they didn't include in this and then the fact that it's not on its most up-to-date security patch, even though the other TCL phones are updated, which just is kind of strange. But again I think that's a Verizon issue, so not really sure, but anyway. Overall, I really like the phone so anyway, if you guys are interested in the TCL 105g UW I'll leave a link down below where you can check it out on Verizon's site and if you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them down below and if you guys like this video hit that like button, if you want to see more like this, consider, subscribing, and I'll see you guys in the next video you.
