Speed Test - $300 Chromebook v $1300 Apple MacBook Pro. The Results May Surprise You

What is up YouTube. Today we have a video with a bit of a difference. I guess you could call it. You know why you're here, you've seen the title. Obviously, so what we can do today is compared a $300, Chromebook or 270 bankroll books to a $1,300 or a 1200 pound MacBook, but before we get to comparisons, because that's what we're all here for right make sure you subscribe tap down of Cajun Belle, so you don't miss any of the videos when they go live before we get the video huh just teasing. You know right.

Sorry, let's do quick, rundown, the specs, so you have an Intel Celeron, 1.1, gigahertz and 4000 processors here, yoga, gram, 64, gigabytes of storage, running Chrome OS and that's the Chromebook. The MacBook is an I-5 quad-core processor, 8, gigabytes, Arm, 128, gigabytes of storage and runs macOS. So that's enough of the fancy stuff and the techie stuff. Let's see who wins and what the comparisons are. Let's go so for the first test, we're going to run a quick boot uptime, so a count of 3.

You push both at the same time.1 2 3, let's see who wins, there's a point time: smaller storage on the Chromebook 64 gig 128 on the MacBook, so he's the MacBook score a loading screen. Even though all the software is up-to-date, which is a bit weird, it would be lucky to get to the login screen and there you have it the Chromebooks already there. Whilst the MacBook is loading, and it's eventually a, so it's about 2 to 3. Second difference there with a Chromebook loading, much faster than the actual math book itself, which is a bit of a surprise. Actually so we're going to run the boot up test again just for coupe sync, it goes and because well just to be fair to see is not an anomaly.

So again, three two one both feet, clicked, let's see what's wrong. Last time the Chromebook was faster terms of upload and the MacBook again they were got a loading bar again and the Chromebook is going to I. Believe looks great I know the Chromebook is gonna, be the one here again so boot uptimes on a Chromebook is much faster, but again not to me excuses for the MacBook which I use every day, but that possibly could be down to the fact. It's more web-based and what's actually stored on the device itself is quite low, but still thumbs up on a win for the Chromebook. So the next tests will be about internet speed, so both are on Virgin Media.

Both the connectors same server, going to click both at the same time and see what we can get upload and download speeds as well just a gauge. So you go I see what's available, so I have got a hundred Meg internet connection in terms of the house itself. That's what runs on upload does vary wildly in between sort of six to ten megabytes per second and oh looks like the Chromebook has got this one again unless we got something different from the MacBook in the end. No, it's a huge difference, so 72 Meg on the Chromebook and 47 on the MacBook, with a ping bean Bailey one millisecond different 24 on the Chromebook and 25 on the MacBook upload speeds is a difference there, though 5.6 on the MacBook and 4.7 on the Chromebook. But let's run that again just for test purposes, just a season on, and normally we run them again, again same servers same everything, no difference in terms of any changes at all connected to the same server simulator connection, not no programs open other than Chrome on both of the devices.

So it is potentially a bit of a difference here. The pink on the Chromebook was 31 in 25 on the MacBook, but again the download 79 on the Chromebook and 67 on the MacBook. So there is again a difference. Looks like this is not an anomaly at all. Surprising again looks like the upload on a MacBook is gonna, be mad better at 6.0, 4 megabits per second and the Chromebook of 5.37. So not a big difference, upload wise, but download wise, hey, huge difference.

If you factor in both of those tests, the next be tests are currently to an ode to the Chromebook. Shockingly is loading a video on YouTube got off pasted both into the address bar. You can either copy the exact same video I'm Nessie, which gets there first with slow twists and go so definitely the MacBook one there I'm pretty certain yeah. Definitely, let's try that again back, go back in the game again. So again, three two one yeah definitely MacBook marginal, are definitely a math book in terms of how quickly they loaded there as well.

So I think these much further along in the video, then that one is there so yeah I went from MacBook to one now. We're going to run a test on loading a web page. Ironically, it's something as twenty web pages, but just because that device is coming out now. Would you review by the way, keep an eye on the channel for that shameless plug, but nevertheless yeah we're going to see how quickly is loads, a webpage, so both web pages at the same thing of a s2000 crappie own page? Basically, as twenty pre-order pages, you should say so: three two one, oh by a mile I, was even close yep. It wasn't even close that was by a mile, the MacBook.

So let's go back on both again three two one run the same thing again: yeah, it's nice and close. It's a quite big difference there. Well, it's big like a two-second difference, but yeah the MacBook renders that much faster than the Chromebook. This is our next test is gonna, be of sound output, so you've got the Chromebook on the Left MacBook on the right again. My obsession with this one car is one video, sorry, but it's the best test for me, I think, gives you good low end as well as a lot of different sounds.

We were on the same video on both and see what we get sound quality wise, so BOGO, Chromebook, first I'll skip ahead a little when it goes a bit wild yep. Now, let's do the exact same one for the MacBook, the volume right, the way up, dddd to do so. Yeah, it's quite a big difference. There I think with the Chromebook. They do get perfect sand output, especially factoring in the price you have to factor in the price when you're looking at a Chromebook, it's less than $300 or 270 pounds wherever it was that I paid for it.

The output in terms of what it's doing sound quality is perfect, but the clarity, the depth of sound, is much better on the MacBook I think it's pretty obvious. There's a four-time price differences about $1,300, but 1200 pounds roughly give or take. There is a huge difference between the two in terms of sound output. One thing it did also want to comment on. Is your screens quickly? It's quite evident from this video here you could see as well.

That's F HD. This is above I believe this is 1440p, and it's retina as well, so I mean there's a huge difference. There's a live! Look at the two images: the color reproduction on here. It's a lot better than what you get here is well as effectively LCD panel, there ? a retina panel, the Apple called it. So there is that significant difference as well.

So that's the end of the tests. Closer than a lot of people would have thought out of it, and the wind does actually go to the MacBook, but whether it justifies four times the cost. I'll leave you to decide. I think you probably know the answer, as discussed in our previous video and review over the Chromebook itself. If you haven't seen that make sure to hit the link above, it is 270 pounds or $300.

There are compromises with it, but if you just want the basics, and you're happy for with the basics, you're not bothered about things like office and video editing and photo editing and having everything run on it, then a Chromebook is a brilliant option. If you're a power user like myself, who uses Adobe Premiere Pro pretty much every day and needs the horsepower underneath, then the MacBook is a better option. Thank you for watching, don't forget to subscribe, tap the notification bell and smash that like button as well until I next video yeah.
