Sony Xperia 1 ii Unboxing & Walkthrough

Hazard land grant here welcome back to the channel, and I'm super excited. The exterior one mark too has finally arrived, as you can see, I've been a huge Sony fan. I featured several Sony phones on this channel. I've got the Xperia one from last year. So do a bit of comparison to that, but the mark 2 is here, and it seems like the experiment. One from last year got a lot of negative reviews from people and Sony tried to seemingly set things right.

You know they went and targeted to prove the right things in the mark. ?, especially the cameras they've got their mobile team partnering with their Sony alpha camera team. They increase the battery capacity, they've added back the headphone, jack, and they've, given us wireless charging. So, as you can see here, some basic specs still has that same triple 12 megapixel camera system, but it is coupled with Mass lenses this time, so we'll see how much of an improvement that makes, but really we'll see how much improvement. The processing of the images are.

Now that the Sony alpha camera teams involved, and they've got dedicated pro camera apps dedicated just for that, so we'll check those out. It's got the same: 8 megapixel, front-facing, selfie camera, so I'm not expecting a lot from the front-facing camera, but it still has that really great 4k HDR OLED display, so we'll definitely check that out as well again increased battery capacity to 4,000, Williams and you've got the snapdragon 865 the latest in the greatest processor this year, and it's IP 65 /, 68, water, resistant and dust resistance. I! Don't know why it's 65, / 68, but I'm assuming it's gonna, be the higher number. So there it is. Let's just break into the box here.

I know a lot of talking, and I'm definitely excited I've been waiting for this for a while I've actually had the international model, because I got the white color I believe only the black color is coming to the US and I want to try something different. It comes in black white and purple, just like the Xperia one from last year, so we'll go ahead and check these out. But again, if you preorder in the US again I think only the black car is available, but you'll get the Sony W F, 1000, X and three buds as well. That's a promotion they're going with, but I already have those, and I want to get a different color, and hopefully you know reduce the amount of fingerprints that are on this day. So here it is the experiment, 1 mark, 2 and white, obviously Sony's nighttime reading there.

So there is a quick start guide, and here you go international charging. Brick I've got an adapter for that, but you can see 18 watt fast charging, USB power, delivery, brick they're, tight, see, cable right there, and then you've got some headphones, I'm, not sure. If it, the US model comes with earbuds. Usually it doesn't, but you're getting those nice W, 1000, X and three is through wireless earbuds. If you preorder, so that's going to be way better than these.

But at least someone gives you something within it. International model there right. So, let's check out the phone here. Take it out of the sleeve and already can tell a difference from last year's model. They kind of flattened out these edges, but pretty much.

You still got that 21 by 9, really long cinematic display, 4k, OLED display, and we'll take off the sticker. Here you can see that back there. So all glass back aluminum side frames just like last year, but you can see they kind of adjusted the camera module to more of this year's kind of style of camera system module, so triple camera setup. You can see they're highlighting those Mass lenses, the flash. You have your NFC contact right there, so new branding, Experian I, definitely flatten out the side.

So the last year was much more curved, and you can see the volume rocker, the power /, fingerprint scanner right there in the middle and your dedicated camera shutter button, that's going to be important and on the left-hand side they just have your SIM card and micros card tray. That's the normal Sony pull out style flap there and on the bottom, you've got your type C port as well as microphone and on the top. You've got your headphone jack back, so Sony has added back the headphone jack little disappointing is on the top. It's a lot more convenient it's on the bottom, it's easier! If you put this into your pocket, but at least you got your headphone jack back in Sony. Audio is usually pretty good, not the best, but pretty good, and you've got your secondary mic right there.

So let's go ahead and pull off the plastic. Hopefully you heard that and let's go ahead and power this on and check it out, and here you are just a quick comparison to last year's experiment here. In my left hand, obviously I've got the purple. I've got this nice silver skin on the back there, the honeycomb skin, but it's pretty much the same overall size as you can see here and pretty much the same width overall and kind of see they're they definitely flatten out the sides like I was saying earlier. So if you look it's much more rounded on the exterior one and on the mark ?, it's a lot.

More flattened looks kind of like more like, like that iPhone 4 kind of edges. Very flat squared off sides there, but otherwise pretty much the same to pick your last year's model. There's the bottom there's a left-hand side there's the top. Obviously, last year they did not have B headphone jack and you've got the sim card on the top instead of on the but on the side, and so just a quick, real comparison. There size-wise between last year's experiments the same size just really more on the flattened side, edges there, alright, so I finished the setup process and I have not installed any of my own apps.

This is pretty much what it's gonna look like straight out the box once you set yours up, so as you can see, this is a stock look here and Sony software has always been pretty much stock Android, and so, if you swipe up, you can see the app drawer. This is everything that's preloaded, at least on the international model, so you can clearly see they've added their cinema Pro and photo Pro apps. Those are going to be key. That's the reason why you're probably getting this phone is because that's we're going to see the much improvement in the cameras, but everything else you've got game enhancer, but pretty much everything else looks talkie got some bloat we're here with Facebook and Netflix. Here's all your basic google apps, and you've got title and Amazon Prime Video.

So a little of bloatware, not a ton pretty much. This is all you're getting straight on the box and if you want, then you can probably go ahead and install this. Let's see so app info, and actually you cannot uninstall some of these things like Facebook. You can only go ahead and disable can't uninstall, unfortunately, but that's pretty much what it's going to look from an app out of the box, and you can see here pretty much stock, Android look. You can see your settings menu here that we can go into, and so we go into about phone and check out the Android version.

Here you can see on the box, it is Android 10, it's running the May first security patch. But if we go into system we can go ahead and check for an update software update. You can see here. A system update is available in waiting, so that could be the latest June security patch. There I'll install it, and we'll check that out, but otherwise you can see here pretty stock settings menu.

Nothing too fancy. This is pretty standard Sony and got some basic additional features like your Xperia SST and so a few other things, but we'll go through that. Maybe in a future video you can see here, here's your kind of home settings on the standard launcher. So you do have your Google app swipe on the left. You can see that not a lot of additional settings here, I'll turn off at I.

Add you apps at the home screen, but that's about it. You have the quick search box on the bottom. If you swipe over here, that's gonna, be your Google now page so pretty much. Every stock Android experience you can see here pretty fast I'll expect nothing less. The Xperia one from last year was fast.

This year has the latest processor: it's not dragging 65. It's going to fly through everything: I'm not expecting any kind of performance issues there, and if you want to go back and check who can actually see how much storage is eaten out of the box. So here we go, you've got 256 gigs of storage. This should have I, believe 8 gigs of ram in it, and you can see here that the system is taking up 14 gigs of the overall storage, so not too large of a footprint there on the initial system install, but you've got 256 gigs to play with, and it's expandable through micros card slot. Alright, so one of the big features here on the Xperia one mark 2, just like the Xperia one from last year- is its 21 by 9 cinematic 4k OLED display.

So let's go ahead and queue up a video here, so we have a 8k HDR 60 frames per second video. Let's try to play that in 4k on this display. So, let's make sure it's playing in 4k, so 2160p 60 frames per second HDR volumes all the way up there we go all right so I, don't know how that comes across on video, but in person that looks really, really clear. The fur on the animals is very, very detailed, very, very fine. So some may say you don't need a 4k display.

You really can't tell on a small display like this, but when you actually see it in person, it is pretty striking. It looks perfect and Sony can make some really great displays. I mean they've got their whole line of TV's, their bra via TVs. They try to pack that same try to luminous technology into their display. And if you look at this thing in person, it really shows it really really looks nice and yes, you may not need a 4k display on a small device like this, but it is a very nice thing to have when you see it in person now.

Obviously the other big thing that Sony is saying they improved are the cameras and that's always been the big thing. That's seemingly held back. Sony phones for a while now they've got great hardware and great displays now that they have these great 4k displays in them. They've upped the battery capacity in this thing, and it's always been the cameras that held them back. Everyone always says you know: they've got these mobile camera sensors that are in pretty much every phone, but they can't produce the same results that maybe some other films can, but those very same sensors and so Sony's mobile team is partnered with their alpha camera team, and so last year they had the cinema Pro app on experiment 1.

Now they have a photo Pro app here on the Xperia 1 mark 2. So let's take a look at a standard camera app. First, you can see here. This is their basic camera app on the phone, and so here you can toggle between the modes. You've got your standard wide.

You've got your telephoto and your ultra-wide camera. There you've got additional features here, so you can toggle between the other modes too. You can get to your photo Pro app straight from here. You've got Google Lens slow-motion portrait, selfie creative effect and panorama, so those are some additional camera modes you get there. Furthermore, you have your flash up top.

This is your portrait mode, so you tap that, and it's a just above area before shin mode here. So if you bring in an object, you should be able to kind of see the portrait mode effect, and then you have the ability to add extra blur or less blur. So a nice variable portrait mode there in toggle it off, and you can see it's the auto-detecting. So it says macro mode: I'll, try to adjust you've got additional things here to adjust here. You've got your color and white balance as well as some brightness settings here straight from the auto mode on the main camera app.

You can all these switch your cameras there and let's take a look at the settings. Real quick, so you've got object tracking, we'll turn that on Sol skin effect, I'm going to turn that off QR code, reader off no save location. For me, for now, grid lines I like to use those we've got burst with a camera. So that's a big deal. You've got burst shot with this and because of the RAW processing power that burst mode is supposed to be very good, so I'll be testing that out I'll turn off the cameras, Allen, so very basic settings there and then, if you also got your video mode and see what it comes with here, you can actually toggle on HDR, video on and off switch to cameras, as well as, let's check out the settings here.

You get your resolutions, your file format, so you can have h.264 or HEV C to save some space. If you want that file format and your video quality here, so you've got Full HD, that's tiny P! This is gonna, be tiny. P 60 frames per second you've got your 4k. So, let's see if the device temperature rises, the app may close during use, your recording will be saved automatically. So Sony has always had this notice on all their phones because they tend to overheat, and this is no exception here on the mark ii.

So if we go back, let's see if we can figure out 60 frames per second recording here. I, don't apparently see that out the box it's supposed to do.4K 60, maybe not from its standard camera, maybe have to go into the pro app, but I'm not seeing 4k 60 in a standard app. But so you know if we got kind of this Android guy here, I can go back to photo. Let's play with the portrait mode. We can turn on that portrait effect, and it does have that dedicated shutter button.

So if you hold it down halfway, you can see it. Try to focus so hold down halfway, actually will do it this way hold down halfway, you can see focus and a full press of the shutter will take the photo so go ahead and take this one here of the Android guy here, Android figurine actually to focus full shutter to take the picture and there you go. So that's what it looks like they're, not too bad edge detection and considering how close I am there's not much background separation, decent job on the fake bouquet or the process, bouquet background blur there and pretty good overall shutter speed. Considering so that's not too bad there. Alright, let's go ahead and check out the cinema pro and counter prolapse, so her cinema pro- and this is going to be for taking kind of cinematic video I believe this is going to be in 21 by 9.

So you kind of skip through all that's there for missions- and this is the cinema Pro app interface right here. So you have a lot of your controls if you're really into you know manual control on video, so obviously a resolution, 4k they're actual frames per second, you can set to your liking here, and you can have any kind of pre, prefiltered looks. You can see how that kind of changes there cool soft, even a monochrome, or you just turn it off completely- go back to that, and then we have your lens, which lens do you want to use? So there is your telephoto, your main wide I'm. Sorry, there's your telephoto! That's the mean wide 16 millimeter ultra-wide. There you go, so you can pick your lens set your ISO a little brighter a little darker set the ISO level that you want.

You've also got things like white balance, so white balance settings you can see kind of how that affects the color temperature. You have Auto, you can customize it to your own or use any of their presets here, so we'll set to auto shutter speed. Furthermore, you can set all that from here as well and focus, so it's on autofocus or manual focus you control all that from the cinema Pro app here and should be to grab some really nice video footage. If you know what you're doing I'll try to test this out, I'm, not much of a manual camera kind of guy. If you follow my channel I'm pretty much more of an autumn old kind of person, but you know cinema pro app here- tries to give you as much control as possible to really create what you want here.

So now we can go ahead and check out the phone Pro app, and this is really meant just like cinema Pro, to be used with the manual shutter button there. So you gives your kind of rundown here of how to use it and straight out the box. You can see its autofocus is on, so this is more of the controls here, so you can go full auto and which auto mode do you want or a manual mode here? So this is if you're familiar with Sony controls. This should look very familiar to you. They tried to make it very much like their Sony cameras.

So if you have any other Sony cameras, this should be fairly familiar to you, and so we go with auto mode, even in the pro app there is that autumn, oh just like their cameras, and so if you're intimidated by allowing these manual controls, you can just use the auto mode which is I'm going to try to test it on I'll, see what Otto mode through the caliper lab looks like versus auto mode. Through that standard, app camera app looks like, but even in auto mode. You have quick access to white balance. Here you can kind of change that around and some of your other basic controls as well. So you pick continuous, autofocus single shot, autofocus or go back to a manual focus at a tap.

So that's very nice. If you know what you're doing you want to use auto mode, but you want to adjust basic things like focus white balance, they're all right here right at your fingertips, ISO controls as well, so very nice, auto white balance. So you can see here auto ISO as well. Yeah, your flash there, as well as auto, focus and auto white balance, controls and here's where you can switch between your lenses so standard wide. There is your ultra-wide and there is your telephoto zoom lens go back to the main lens here, and you can go ahead again: user.

It's meant to be used with a shutter button. There is no digital shutter button here. Everything's got to be used with this actual physical button, so again half press on the shutter to focus, and you can see there, and it's got an autofocus so on humans and animals. It'll have that Sony IATA focus so autofocus I'm, expecting a lot of great things here and that burst mode will test out as well, but again half press on the shutter and try to get close up here, half press to focus and then full press it snaps the photo. And obviously you know this is real good lighting here.

This should look pretty good, and you can kind of see the Android figurine right there, but I'll definitely go ahead and be testing the cameras and seeing what it can really do here. Alright, so there you go. That's my unboxing of the Sony Xperia one mark ?, like I, said I'm really excited to finally have this in my hands. I want to really put it through its paces, especially the cameras. So if you have any phones, you want to see this compared to as far as camera comparisons go.

Let me know in the comments, if you want to see compared to the last year's experiment, to see it up against the pixel for Excel note, 10 I've got a bunch of different phones. Let me know what it Just's you most. Obviously the v60 as well, so let me know in the comments section what camera comparisons you want to see any other questions about the phone. Let me know in the comments as well: I'll try to answer them in future videos. Obviously anything else leave them in the comments.

Let's have a discussion down there and as always, thanks for watching.
