Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G Review

This is Lisa from mobile tech review and this is the galaxy s20 again this time it's the s20 Fe, which stands for fan, edition, 5g phone, just trying to say all that together right anyway, fan edition right. What that so, first off notice, the back on this. This is not a glass back. This is plastic, in other words, plastic. That's meant to feel like glass, sorry, and before you go boo and hiss, and you know this cheese ball ah hear me out and listen to this, so this fan edition means it has all the core nifty things that you like about a galaxy but in a more affordable package. So you get that 120 hertz fast, refresh OLED display it's a full HD plus resolution, not the super crazy high resolution of getting the other s20 members of the family, but then again those are all set to run at full, HD plus resolution.

By default, anyway, in the United States, you get the snapdragon 865 sorry overseas, to get the no CPU you get 5g support on this. You get triple cameras, main ultra-wide telephoto lens and very good cameras. The same ones that are on the s20 nice, it's starting to sound, pretty good right, so you're getting pretty much everything that you would expect from the s20 family, but this is 6.99 instead and at launch. In fact, the best buy and Amazon are selling for 5.99 even more exciting. So what did they cut out? Well, obviously, the back is not glass anymore, which I actually kind of like you know, because glass backs crack, let's face it, and this is 20 20.

If this is the year you're going to drop your phone and crack if it's going to be 20 20. , I know I did with one of my phones for the first time in 10 years right, so it's also less cold to the side, just less slippery, it's kind of matte- and the fact is most of you are going to put a case on this anyway. So whatever gorgeous stunning back that has uh the phone has you're, not even going to see it. You know the arguments for that. So, besides that, just like the iPhone 11 and probably upcoming, iPhone 12 that this wants to compete with you get to have six different colors to choose from which is kind of neat.

We're gonna, look at it now, and the feature list just goes on from there. Micro SD card slot check yep right there in the same carrier with the NATO sim we've got Wi-Fi 6 on here: Bluetooth, 5 NFC for Google Pay or Samsung pay whatever it is. You want to use. We've got support for fast charging.25 watt, though there's only a 15 watt charger in the box. So here's one of those cost-cutting concessions.

If you want faster charging, you got to go get that charger. If you don't have it already, it supports 15 watt wireless QI, wireless charging and also reverse wireless charging, which Samsung calls power share. So if you've got galaxy, buzz or a galaxy watch put it on the back of the phone, and it will charge it for you. It's also ip68 water resistant, so yay that this has the usual in display front camera on it, and it's 32 megapixel, which is different. So some of the other phones we've seen recently from Samsung or 10, and it does pixel binning down to eight megapixels.

It's pretty decent. The one thing that's kind of weird, though, is the lens is kind of like reflective iridescent, so you'll notice it more than the others which just kind of are a little black dot. You hardly see it on. I don't know why this is, but this is how it is in terms of the cameras on this. Like I said, this is the s20 set of cameras, and they're good they're.

All 12 megapixel and you've got 3x optical zoom on the telephoto lens at up to 30x, with their super digital zoom, whatever, which is useful really at about up to 10x at most and then, after that it starts to look a little messier, but it can be kind of fun. I suppose, once in a while, I'm not going to go into detail on this, because I've already reviewed the s20 family of phones, and you get the idea. This is. These are very good cameras. The night mode on this is also very good, particularly for still photos.

A little more so than video, and while you might argue, is this the best night mode or is that a Google Pixel or somebody else? You know it matters when you're paying flagship prices, a thousand dollars or more, when you're, paying 699 or 599. It doesn't have to be the very best if it's really darn good and the camera is that's good enough. You also have pro mode support here from usual 4k at 60 frames per second slow motion, super slow motion, video recording, but wait, there's more there's support for Samsung DEX. I know a lot of you like that. There's a 4500 William battery, it's pretty darn big, so all day battery life for most of us.

Yes, that's should be a reality. You know just stay away from the Pok?mon Go, and you'll be okay in terms of size and pricing and where this fits in Samsung's strategy, and it can get to be a little confusing. That's probably why you have to watch this video right now is they want to have something at every price point? They don't want more than 200 dollars a gap without having a phone. So that's the deal here so if you want even more affordable, there's the a51 and the a71, and then they jump up to the s20, and they felt that that was too much of a price jump. Now, if you can get a s20 at a good deal, then you still might want to consider that if you want that super premium, glass back and all that sort of stuff, but there's a segment of people, I think who, like the bigger screen, so the regular s20 is 6.2 inches, the s20 plus, which is just about the same size and thicknesses. That's just a little taller, which is tiny for a phone with the 6.7 inch display is twelve hundred dollars list price. You might get deals for less and all that.

So, if you're looking at, I really wanted the plus size this one's at six point five inches. So it's just closer to the plus. This is a way more affordable way to get a bigger screen phone. That's the idea there, while getting more premium than say the Samsung a71 model phone in terms of software. It's android 10 with one UI 2.5 and Samsung. He said they guaranteed three years of OS updates for the phone, so nice to know and nice to have on this.

The speakers are pretty much like what you'd expect say from the s20 plus, which is to say very good. You've got stereo speakers bottom firing and there's the earpiece which becomes the speaker as well pretty loud, pretty full. It is a phone folk. It can only sound so good. This is not your home stereo system, but by phone standards.

It sounds very nice for biometrics we have the usual 2d facial recognition, which is not the most secure. If you're really feeling paranoid, there's the in display fingerprint scanner which, as we know in Samsung phones, can be a little bulky, though it behaved pretty well for me. So what about the competition? The competition would be either older generation. Phones in some cases are the OnePlus family say the OnePlus 8, the OnePlus 8 pro is actually getting more expensive. So it's interesting.

There is a price hole right here that this fits into really nicely, and I hope a lot of retailers continue to discount to 5.99. Obviously, the iPhone 12 is coming up. This is probably going to be another competitor for it, but until it's out, and we can see what it has to offer- I can't really say how it holds up. So that's the galaxy s20 Fe or fan edition 5g phone available on all major carriers in the United States and also sold as an unlocked phone for those who hate carrier bloatware and all that sort of stuff uh. You know it's a pretty positive review and now that doesn't make me a Samsung shell.

I just think that for the price they've got here like I said, particularly when it's on sale, it's a lot of fun with most everything that you get from a s20 to a s20 plus family phone for a lot less money and a less breakable back. I mean I'm sorry. Furthermore, I really just can't hate on it.
