Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra vs Galaxy S20 Ultra Comparison

Which one: should you go for the brand new Samsung Galaxy note, 20 ultra or the s20 ultra hello, guys, I'm Vic with phone arena and Samsung has just released the brand-new note, 20 ultra with the biggest upgrade to the s pen so far. So if you want that just skip this video and get the note. If, however, like me, you are not using the s pen all that much, and you just want the very best Samsung phone stick with me, as I will tell you about the differences between these two first, it's just about pure size and both are big, XL sized phones. The note 20 ultra has a boxy rectangular shape, while the s20 ultra has rounded corners. I personally, like that edge look of the note a little better. It's just different from most other phones out there, and it has personality.

The note is also noticeably thinner at 8.1 millimeters versus the 8.8 millimeters on the s series, a small difference, but one that is noticeable and while the note is no lightweight phone, it weighs noticeably less than the s series phone and as for their construction, they are similar, but not the same. Both feature glass on the back, but the note has the newest generation toughened glass that is said to be able to survive a head-high drop and to better resist scratches, and we also have here the mystic bronze version of the note that has a frosted matte glass finish that doesn't attract fingerprints. Compare this to the very glossy and fingerprint magnet that you have on the s20 ultra. Also, both have camera units that stick out in a big way out of the back. The styling of the cameras on the note, however, is just prettier here: every single camera has a metal ring around it, and it looks beautiful.

So if we count all of this as round one for design and styling, the note easily has the upper hand, and then you have the screens now in the specs department. You'll see that both are 6.9 inch displays. That measure is just not very relevant these days now. The reality is that the note has a wider screen that feels a bit more immersive and appears bigger, while the screen on the s20 ultra is narrower and taller. So if you value a bigger screen in most cases, and not just video go for the note, it gives you that it's also just the better display overall colors are a tiny bit richer, a bit better refined, and it gets slightly brighter outdoors.

So it's easier to read now. Both phones also support a high refresh rate of 120hz, but there is a difference here as well. Now, if you use the 190hz option on the s20 ultra, the screen will be fixed, refreshing at 120 hertz all the time, while on the note it can now smartly adjust and will only go to 120 hertz when it needs to when you're scrolling around and so on. Now, if you're just watching a video, you don't need a high refresh rate or, if you're playing a game that doesn't support it and those times. The note will run at a lower refresh rate and save battery, and that's a big feature.

So to sum it up, if display quality was round two. Now that's an easy win for the note as well. Under the hood, the note 20 ultra runs on the snapdragon 865 plus chip compared to the regular snapdragon 865 on the s20 ultra now, the plus, in the name, refers to the higher clock, speeds that you get on the note, and this will result in up to 10 faster performance outside the United States. However, both phones will feature the same chip. The Samsung made Enos 990.

As for the rest of the specs, you get the same: 12 gigabytes of the latest generation lpddr5 ram on both phones and you have 128 gigabytes of onboard storage on the base models again. Another asterisk here is that the note uses slightly faster storage of the newer UFS 3.1 standard overall, while the note does have slightly faster performance, I wouldn't say that it's a huge difference again. If we have to count this, it will be a win for the note, but not a big one, and then you have the cameras, the bread and butter of premium smartphones. The note cameras look better, but do they take better photos? Well, we couldn't notice much of a difference at first sight, but we have to say that we are still running pre-production software and will reserve our final judgment for our reviews. Both phones feature 108, megapixel cameras that produce 12 megapixel shots.

Now, that's the main camera both have night mode on board both have the same 12 megapixel ultra-wide camera too plenty of similarities. One difference is in zooming. The s20 outer has that 100 times space zoom feature, while the note can go up to 50 times with digital zoom and has a lower resolution.12 megapixel camera on the note versus a 48 megapixel camera on the s20 ultra. Now, honestly, at first sight, that lower resolution of the note doesn't mean you get worse pictures when zooming and while the note can go to 50 times, I honestly don't think that even matters is 100 times. Zoomed photos on the s20 auto were just a bit of a gimmick.

They just look like a blurry mask that you would probably never actually share with anyone. So one interesting detail is that the time of flight depth camera on the s2022 is gone here on the note, and instead you get a laser autofocusing system. I tested the autofocus speeds on the note, and it was wicked fast and reliable too. It's just instantaneous the galaxy s20 ultra. On the other hand, it still has some problems with this wonky autofocus back from the launch.

So for what really matters? I would say that the note is an upgrade not a downgrade and on the video side, both can record videos at up to 8k whopping 8k video resolution, and the note also has richer manual controls, if you're into that. So to sum it up just from with the camera, it's mostly a draw, but the note does have a few slight advantages and a few extra features and finally battery life. The s20 ultra has the upper hand with a 5 000 William hour battery, compared to a 4 500 William hour cell. On the note again, this also means that the s20 ultra is noticeably thicker, as we showed you in the beginning and for me personally, that's a bit too thick. The note 20 ultra scores a bit less than the s20 ultra on our web browsing test, the s20 ultra scores nearly 12 hours and a half when used at 60 hertz, compare it to slightly short of 12 hours.

On the note, interestingly, battery life drops significantly on both phones. When you enable the 120 hertz option that buttery smooth experience comes at a cost and then there is YouTube video playback, where the note surprisingly had a very poor showing at just 7 hours of playtime compared to nearly 12 hours on the s20 ultra and finally, when it comes to 3d gaming, the note got quite hot and lasted just around 7 hours, while the s20 ultra did stay cooler and scored noticeably better at 9 hours of continuous game time. Both phones come with a 25 watt charger in the box. The s20 02 supports 45 watt, fast charging and now finally, the prices. Now when the s20 ultra launched it launched at the price of fourteen hundred dollars, which is a lot of money and at currently, you can find it with various deals.

You can get it on Amazon for about one thousand dollars, while the note starts at a lower price of thirteen hundred dollars now, currently, the note is still more expensive than the s20 ultra, because you have that many deals on the s20 ultra, but those prices are again on the premium side, so the note does cost a little more so that rounds up this comparison, while on paper, the note 20 ultra is not a big upgrade over the s20 ultra. The improvements add up for an overall, better experience in various areas and for those who care about that s pen. Well, of course the note is a far better choice and that's it for this comparison. I hope you guys enjoyed watching this. Give this video a thumbs up.
