Apple Watch vs. Amazfit Bip: Best value smartwatch By CNET

The Apple Watch Series four starts at $400. This Smartwatch looks just like it, but it's only $80. So is this the best cheap Apple Watch alternative okay. So there are a lot of Apple Watch alternatives out there, especially on the cheaper end of the spectrum. If you don't quite want to spend four to five hundred dollars on this series, for you can do something from brands like Garmin, maybe it's a Fitbit or even Samsung. Maybe you even go a cheaper Apple Watch like this series, one or series three but I, don't want to spend anywhere near that sort of money, so I've decided $80 is my limit.

So what do you get for that? This is the amazed Fitbit be IP, and it costs $80, and it's regularly even cheaper when it's on sale. So as you can see, this looks kind of like an Apple Watch. If you're not paying too much attention, I've been wearing it for a few weeks and several people have come up to me and said: oh I didn't realize the Apple Watch came in that orange color, and then they came a little closer I went up. It's not an approach, but it looks like it and yeah that's the trick. It looks a lot like it, but it doesn't cost anywhere near the price.

So both of these watches are designed to withstand the rough and tumble of your everyday active life. The amazed Fitbit has a gorilla glass on it, so it's going to be fine from scratches. The Apple Watch also has a protective glass, but I've been wearing the Apple Watch for maybe eight months now, and it has not developed a scratch on it. This one I've been wearing for a couple of weeks, and it's still totally fine, and I've done a lot of active stuff with it. So I think you'll be okay.

Okay. So let's talk about the biggest difference between these two first up, iOS and Android, Apple Watch your iOS only I'm. Sorry, that's all you're going to get with this and there's probably no sign that that's ever gonna change, we'd be amazed, Fitbit, iOS and Android compatibility. So if you are an Android user and you kind of want the look of an Apple Watch, then maybe you could consider this one. The amazed Fitbit is very comfortable to wear, although I do have to say the strap that it comes with that default.

Strap is so long for someone with a smaller wrist. Like me, just like look at this flap, it's just hanging off it's getting caught on everything, so you definitely change the strap out. If you have a smaller wrist like me, really easy to do, but it does add a little of cost, obviously, because you have to buy another, strap it's not in the box like this, for the Apple Watch. So let's talk about fitness features. For me, this is one of the most important parts of a Smartwatch, and it's a big reason why I would buy one is to keep an eye on my steps, keep an eye on my activity and my exercise, so I will both of these during a couple of different workouts.

The first was a run and I left. The phone at home I took voices of out on a beautiful sunny day running around with both of them. I've got a lot of wet, looks because I had two watches on either wrist, but hey I do this for you to find out the best option. The results from both were pretty similar when I compared them in the apps after I got home from that run. So the route was correct on both the GPS picked up when I paused and unpaused my workout.

It was also fairly accurate, ? on the heart rate reading that it was giving me on the Amaze Fitbit compared to the Apple Watch and I really appreciated how the amazement app also had splits, so I could see how well I did each kilometer or each mile that I ran. You can also get that too in the Apple Watch, but I was just genuinely surprised at how much data that this little watch gave me. The Amaze fib has only four activities that you can track, whereas the Apple Watch has around twelve, including a lot of things like rowing, elliptical, yoga and even another category that you can put everything else in, so I tried to track a Pilates workout using treadmill I guess that was probably the closest thing, and it just was not accurate at all. It couldn't give me anything. It said: I bent five calories, which was very sad because I spent an hour in that class and the Apple Watch was like well done, 300 calories and then this one was like.

Oh, you've done. Five calories I can't eat that slice of cake. So don't use this for Pilates. But if you do one of those four activities perfect, maybe that's all you need for me. I need a little more flexibility, so fitness and health features all very closely entwined and the Apple, which definitely has the advantage here.

It has a lot more options to choose from than the Amaze Fitbit, so you'll get things like high-low and a regular heart rate detection fall detection to call emergency services. If you have a tumble and there's also an ECG or EKG available, although that's only in the U. S. parts of Europe and Hong Kong at the time that I recorded this battery life, is such a big deal for me, especially because I don't like charging my devices every night, except for my phone. If I don't have to it's a real pain point that the Apple Watch only gives me I, guess a day and a half of usage.

That's weird, like notifications turned on a workout in between, and then it's completely dead after a day and a half the amazed Fitbit is amazing. When I first got it, I took it out of the box charged it a hundred percent I wore it for a day with all my notifications turned on, and I did an update on the watch at the end of the day or the first thing in the morning, when I put it back on again, it was at 99 percent, which was crazy, so I, don't know how it does it. But if you want the best battery life, there is no question. It's going to be this watch. So, let's talk about notifications and how each watch deals with him like any Smartwatch worth their salt.

Both of them can get notifications from your phone, whether that's text, messages, phone calls or even emails. That said, the Apple Watch has a lot more flexibility. When it comes to what app notifications you can get, you can go through in the Apple Watch app and just select all the specific app notifications you want to come through, or you can just get it to mirror what your iPhone already does with the amazed Fitbit. You can also get notifications for things like phone calls, text, messages and email from the fit app you just toggle on the ones you want. If you want third party app notifications, there is also a section that lets you give a little more granularity in what you want to come through say, for example, YouTube and Instagram notifications, but if there is another app that falls outside that say, maybe Gmail or slack you'll need to go to this other toggle and on to make sure that the watch will get them, and it will just basically mirror exactly what your phone is going to give you anyway.

So when I'd been wearing these watches side by side, I had them both connected to an iPhone and I found that messages came through fine on both notifications on both were totally acceptable, except the Amaze Fitbit was just a fraction slower than the Apple Watch, so it was maybe like half a second to a second, not a huge deal, but maybe that's something. That's important to you. One thing that is important to me is emojis and I do not get emoji support on the Amaze Fitbit screen. It just comes up as an ugly question mark box, rather than the fully fledged emojis. You know and love which show up on the Apple Watch, and that said, when you do get a phone call or a text message, you can only just get the notification buzzing on your wrist.

You can't respond. Furthermore, you can't answer the phone from the watch at all. Maybe that's! Okay, if you just want to be notified that this is happening, but if you want to be able to answer or respond, that's only available on the Apple Watch, part of making your watch your own is customizing it, and, apart from the straps and everything you can do with a physical hardware, what about the software? So the watch face is a big thing that you can change on the Apple Watch. You have a couple of options already baked in and there aren't any third-party watch faces to choose from, although Apple has said that there will be some more faces coming with watch OS 6. Thank goodness because I really want to have some more options.

The Amaze fit Biff has so many third-party watch faces available. It's kind of crazy. Not only do you get the ones in the main fit app, but you can also go to a site like I just found this one called amaze fit watch faces calm, and they have so many options. I mean Captain America. There is even a Casio watch face it's just pretty old-school and there's like pages and pages of this stuff.

Oh, there's an old school Rolex, that's pretty cool! You continue $80 Smartwatch into $10,000, plus Rolex I, guess now. When it comes to music storage, you're only going to get that on the Apple Watch, but there is a way to get music control on the Amaze Fitbit. Now this isn't an official app. This is definitely a third-party modification. You can't do this from within the official me fit app, but you just need to download an app called amazed tools on iOS or tools and amaze fib on Android, it's kind of a mouthful to say all that, and you'll be able to get control of your music app say, for example, Spotify.

So you can program the button to do a bunch of different things like maybe skip tracks, go forward backwards or start and stop the music. What I do love about the Amaze Fitbit /? The Apple Watch, though, is that it has an always-on display. So if you just want to check at the time which it's a watch, you're probably going to want to do that fairly frequently, you don't have to rotate your wrist and race to wake or tap the screen. You just simply look and go yeah. That's the time easy, as that.

Both of these watches are really easy to see in bright sunlight, especially if you crank up the brightness and I had to do that on the Amaze Fitbit, but I had no problem seeing it when I was outdoors, doing a run. So, let's see, what's in the box of each of these watches, with the Apple Watch, you get to watch itself a pouch two straps at different lengths and the charger with the amazed Fitbit. You get the watch itself with the strap already attached and a charger. Okay, let's check the specs, so the Apple Watch is either a 40 or 44 millimeters OLED Retina display, whereas the amaze Fitbit is a thirty-two point: five millimeter LCD: they both have a heart rate sensor and GPS. They are both water-resistant, although two slightly different levels, and they're around the same weight depending on the size of the watch face you get, the Apple Watch is the only one that has LTE, so you can take calls or send messages when you're, not with your phone.

Now it comes down to the one that I would choose. So this one I genuinely surprised myself, because it's going to be the Fitbit I honestly thought: I was going to choose the Apple Watch just because it does a lot more, but actually the more I dug into it. The more I found the capabilities of the amazed Fitbit, and it's $80 versus $400 or $500. If you get there to e-version this kind of no contest, if you're a cheapskate like me, I mean you can customize it so much. There is an amazing level of battery life, like this literally just gave me a low power warning, as we were filming like that's how much I drain the battery on this, whereas I've left this in the drawer for maybe 20 days and I came back, expecting it to be totally dead, and it's still working.

The battery is incredible. It can get all the notifications that you want yeah, you can't do calls and stuff, but maybe that's not important to you and fitness tracking features are fantastic if you are primarily a runner or a cyclist. I think this one is going to be great for pretty much most of your needs and it's so cheap, like I'm. Sorry, I have to keep coming back to the fact that this is so cheap. So that's my pick, but what about you?
