Samsung Galaxy A42 5G - Tips and Tricks! (Hidden Features)

What's going on everyone, this is Kevin here from smartphone review pro and in this video we're going to be going over Samsung Galaxy, a42, 5g tips and tricks and hidden features. So let's go over a list of different things that you need to know about the phone now. The first thing I want to show you is how to get a battery percentage in the upper right corner of the phone. So by default we just have the icon for the battery, and it does give you an idea of how much charge is left in the phone, but nothing's more precise and accurate than having the actual percentage in the corner at all times. So to do this, you're going to pull down the shade you're going to go to the settings you're going to go to search and type in battery, and you'll, see right here, show battery percentage, tap on that and then tap on it again, and now it doesn't matter where you go throughout the operating system, you're going to have the battery percentage in the corner at all times. So that's definitely very helpful.

Now, in addition to that, go to battery under device care- and we have some interesting options here, so the first one is battery usage, and by going to this, you can see how much battery you're consuming on a regular basis, you'll also see as well, which apps are consuming the most amount of battery too. So, if it does seem like the battery on the phone is depleting faster than you expect it to, then you can see here which apps specifically are using the most amount of battery now going back here. We also have some power management modes, so tap on power mode, and you'll see that we have three different options. So there's optimized and by going to optimize you're, going to be getting the recommended balance of performance and battery life, there's also medium power saving, and by going to that you're going to extend the battery life by limiting some functions, there's also maximum power saving which will save you as much battery life as possible, which is pretty awesome as well and in addition to that, there's adaptive power saving. So by doing this, you're going to set the power mode automatically, based on your usage patterns, to save power when it's not needed, and apparently by doing this, it can turn off 5g.

So, as you use the phone more and more you're going to get a better idea of, if you even need to worry about these various power modes, of course, if you go through the entire day, and you've still got 50 40 left on the phone, then you probably don't even have to worry about any of this. But these are some different options for you. If you do notice that you run out of battery faster than you expect now, thankfully, with the a425g, we do have a really large 5 000 William hour battery. So the likelihood of you running into any battery issues is probably pretty small now moving on. The next thing that I want to show you here is how to hide certain apps in the app drawer.

Now, I'm definitely a big fan of the app drawer, as it does show you all the various apps that you have installed. But if you do want to clean it up further or if there are certain icons that you just don't want to see at all, then it is pretty easy to hide them. So in this demonstration here we're going to hide Facebook. So what you're going to do is go to the upper right corner tap in those three dots go home screen settings then from here scroll to the bottom and then go to hide apps and then from here you have a list of all your different apps. So again, we're going to hide Facebook for this example so tap on Facebook, and you can see it's now in the list of hidden apps, so tap on done and now going back to the app drawer here there is no Facebook to be found anywhere, and in addition to that, I originally had Facebook on my home screen and that has disappeared as well.

So this is a really cool way to clean things up and hide certain apps that you don't want to have present on either the home screen or in the app drawer and then to get this back. You just do the same process, so tap on those three buttons go home. Screen settings scroll down to the bottom, go to hide apps, and then you're going to see all of your hidden apps right here. So we're going to remove Facebook tap on done and then now, when you go back, you can see Facebook has been added once again now it doesn't put it right back where it was before, unfortunately, and to get it back on the home screen, you are going to have to re-add it so there it is again, but that's how you hide apps with the Samsung Galaxy a42 5g now with the a425g, we do have the app edge on the right side of the device. Now I think this feature is pretty cool.

Essentially in this little almost notch type of thing here you just swipe over, and the app edge will appear now. There are some different ways to customize this, so I'll show you that right now, and then I'll show you how to remove it completely, but to customize it you're going to tap on this gear right here and then from here. We have a bunch of different options, so you can add contacts, you can add apps, you can add different tasks here. Instead, you can add the weather tools different reminders, so there are a bunch of different options, and it looks like there's even more in the galaxy store, but then up top here you do have the option to turn off the edge panel completely. So now it's off, and now you won't see it on the right side of the phone anymore, but to bring it back.

You pull down the shade, go to the settings, go to search type in edge, and you'll see right here edge panel, and then you can turn it back on once again. So I think it's a nice feature to have, but if you do find yourself not using it- and you do want to get rid of this little side indentation, then you do have the ability to remove it completely. Now on the galaxy a42 5g, we do have a pretty nice presentation here when it comes to the lock screen. However, you can further customize this so to change it you're, going to pull down the shade, go to the settings, go to search, you're, going to type in lock, screen, and then you'll see right here, lock, screen type tap on that, and then you'll see clock style, tap on that and then now we have a bunch of different ways that we can customize this clock style. So this is the default right here.

You can actually change up the colors of that as well. So if you want to give it an adaptive color, you can have it do that you can also pick certain colors as well. So there's blue red, yellow, there's also some rainbow gradients as well, and then there's also a full color palette here too, so you can customize things even further, but we're going to switch that back to adaptive for now and then going back to type. You can see that there's a bunch of different types here to choose from, so I definitely recommend going through these and seeing which ones you prefer and then making those adjustments accordingly, but we're going to go with this one. For now, I'm going to tap on done so now, when we go to the lock screen, we have a different style here now, with the Samsung Galaxy a425g by default, we do get the standard android three button navigation.

Now I know that many people like this type of navigation in comparison to the gestures. However, many people might not know that you do have the option with this phone to go either way. So I'll show you right now how to switch this over to gestures. So to do that, you're going to pull down the shade, go to the settings, go to search type in nav, and then you'll see right here: navigation bar so tap on that go there, and then you'll see that we get a bunch of different options here. So the first option is actually to change the button placement down below.

So we can switch it over to this one, and we now have the back button on the left side, the home button in the middle and then the recent apps on the right side. So you have that ability to make that adjustment and then also we have swipe gestures. So you can tap on that now. You can see that we just have a little line at the bottom and then with the gestures you can swipe up to go home. You can also swipe partially up to go back to your recent apps, and then you can swipe from the side to go back.

So that's pretty awesome as well. There's also some other customization options here too. So we can go to more options, so we actually have the ability to adjust the sensitivity of the swipes, but also we can go over to swipe from bottom, and then we have three little lines at the bottom here now and then, instead of doing a gesture from the side to go back and then a partial gesture up to go to your recent apps, each individual line here represents each of the three traditional android navigation buttons. So, for example, on the left side here, swiping up will take you to your recent apps swiping from the center will take you home and then swiping on the one on the right will take you back. So you definitely get a lot of different options here when it comes to navigating around the phone and what I recommend doing is trying out everything that's offered here to really see what best fits your needs.

Now, this next tip that I'm going to show you is called side key, so pull down the shade, go to the settings, go to search type inside, and you'll, see right here, side key and then go to side key. So there's a couple of things. First thing is by default side key is enabled, and in addition to that, it's enabled so that if you double press on the power button, it's going to pull up the camera. So it doesn't matter where you are within the operating system by double tapping on that button, it's going to pull up the camera app, so I'm definitely a big fan of that. However, you also have the ability to customize the button so that, if you double tap on it, it will pull up any app of your choice.

In addition to that, it can also activate some different functions, like the flashlight, for example, so definitely really cool that we have this ability to customize this, but in this demonstration let's have it now pull up Instagram. So Instagram is now selected and then now, when I double tap on the power button, it's going to pull up Instagram right away. So that's really convenient. Now, with this device, there are quite a few animations, whether it's going to your app drawer or just moving on the phone in general, maybe pulling up the camera. There are definitely some animations here now to give it the effect of being faster.

You do have the ability to remove those animations so type in animation, and you'll see right here. We have some different options, so under advanced features, there's reduce animations and then under accessibility. We have remove animations, so let's first reduce the animations. So there we go right, there reduce animations and then now, when going around the phone, there are definitely fewer animations they're not completely gone, but the animations are certainly sped up here, which is gonna, make navigating around the phone a bit more efficient, which I'm all for now we're going to turn that off. For now and I'll show you how remove animations looks, so you can see right there remove animations, and now there are no animations at all.

So you can really get through this phone very quickly. You can see right here how fast I'm able to navigate, so we're going to turn that off for now, but those are two different methods to make the device run a bit faster and more efficient. I'm going to be showing you how to get pop-up view for video, so we're on youtube right now, and basically what I want is that when you're in other parts of the operating system, the video will pop up so to do this, you're going to have to already pull up the YouTube app and then go to your recent apps and then, when you see YouTube right here, hold your finger over the logo up the top and then go to open in pop-up view. So now we have almost like a mini app here that you're able to move around, which is pretty cool. You can even scroll through and everything, but we are able to resize this to just the size of the video, and then you can go ahead and play that video here and meanwhile you can go through the phone and do whatever you would typically do now.

In addition to that, we have some transparency options as well, so we can make things a little transparent so that you're still able to see what's going on behind the video. But at the same time you can still watch the video too. So that's pretty awesome as well, and then, if you want to get out of this, you can just tap on the x in the corner. This next feature is pretty awesome as well. It's called dual messenger so for certain apps that are compatible like Snapchat and Facebook, you're actually able to install a second copy of those apps, and you're able to sign in on a different account.

For example, with Snapchat there is no multi-account support, but with dual messenger you can install two copies of that. So pull down the shade, go to the settings type in dual, and you're, going to see right there, dual messenger and there it is- and you can see that actually Snapchat, Facebook and Facebook Messenger are all compatible with this. So as you install different apps on your phone, the ones that are compatible are going to pop up here. But then, if you do want to install a second copy of those apps, all you have to do is activate dual messenger and the second copy will install and for the final tip in this video I'm going to be showing you device care. So it doesn't matter what phone you use the more clutter that is on the device, the more likely it is to slow down so Samsung does have a pretty cool feature here called device care that I definitely think you should be aware of so go to the settings, go to the search type in device care there.

It is right there device care. So by going to device care, it will run through a variety of different things on the phone, and then it will come up with a list of things that need changed to better optimize the device. Now, if your phone seems to be running fine for you, then you don't necessarily have to do this very often. But if you do want your phone to run as fast as it possibly can and as efficiently as well, then I recommend doing this about once every two weeks, but basically all you got to do is just tap on optimize now, and it's now going to optimize the phone. So it is closing out some background apps, for example, and it's now 100 optimized so tap on done and then now everything is all good.

So that's definitely something that you're going to want to keep in mind, especially if your phone seems to be running slower, but I hope you enjoyed these tips and tricks and hidden features about the Samsung Galaxy a42 5g, if you like, the video, definitely give it a thumbs up, but this is Kevin here. I hope you enjoyed it and I will see you in the next one.
