Samsung Galaxy A20s - 1 Year Later! (Still Worth It?)

What's going on everyone, this is Kevin here and in this video we're going to be checking out the Samsung Galaxy a20s one year later, so it has already been over one year really, since the a20s was launched and the phone even today is still very relevant, which is very interesting. I know that there's still a lot of demand for this device and to make things even better. The phone has recently gotten the android 10 updates. Now I don't know what plans Samsung has as far as getting this device android 11. If at all I mean, I certainly hope it will get android 11, but I have no idea if that's going to happen, but I'm definitely very grateful that they have managed to update it to android 10. Now this phone does feature many similarities to the regular galaxy a20, but it also has many differences as well and on my main channel.

I do have a comparison between this phone and that phone, so you might want to check that out, but basically some improvements with the a20s include having better camera, especially a better ultra-wide angle. Camera now stay tuned to later on in the video as I'll show you some fresh test photos and videos that I've taken with this phone that I took literally today. So I don't know if the android 10 updates has resulted in any improvements. As far as the photo and video quality goes, I haven't really been able to notice, but at the same time, this device never really took bad photos and videos now in case you've forgotten the a20s features, a pretty large 6.5 inch display. The display is IPS LCD, so that is another difference between this phone and the regular a20, as the a20 does have an AMOLED display, which I do prefer over LCD.

But I think the display on this phone still does look really nice, and it has good colors in general and despite it being 720p, I think things look very crisp and clear. Now the PPI here with the phone is 264, and we're getting a 19 and a half by 9 aspect ratios. So a narrow but tall form factor here with the device which I certainly don't have an issue with and with the display being 6.5 inches. This phone is going to be perfect for content consumption, whether that's browsing the web, going on social media or watching video content. Now with this device, we do have a water drop notch on the top, and in that notch is an 8 megapixel front-facing camera.

Now, at this point in late 2020, I do prefer to have the hole punch design instead of the water drop notch, which is what we have with the a21s, which is the successor to this phone, but even though it does have the water drop notch, I think it is perfectly fine. I don't think it really gets in the way at all, and another thing to remember too, is that we do have a little of a thicker bottom bezel, but still, even though this phone is a year old, I think the design still looks very nice, and it certainly is very usable now, internally with the a20s, we have 32 gigabytes of storage, and we also have micro, SD card expansion. Now 32 gigs is not necessarily enough space. It is nice, though, that we do have that micro, SD card expansion, so that you are able to use that space to offload your photos and videos, for example, but you can see with the system software on this phone and some of my favorite applications as well. We do get 17.9 gigabytes still available, so not terrible, that's for sure, but at the same time, at this point I do prefer to get phones that have 64 gigs but then again for the segment. This phone is in most other devices are also limited at 32 gigabytes.

Now, there's no wireless charging with the a20s, but we do have a fingerprint sensor on the back. We also have faced unlock as well, so a lot of different options here to get into the phone, but the fingerprint sensor is nice and fast. It does get the job done. So no issues there now taking a look at the camera module, we do have a triple camera setup with the a20s. We have a 13 megapixel main camera, an 8 megapixel, ultra-wide angle, camera and a 5 megapixel dev sensing camera, and with this phone we do have portrait mode with both the back and front cameras.

Now, in general, I've been very happy with the photo and video quality from the a20s. Like I mentioned earlier on in the video, it doesn't seem like the android 10 updates has necessarily improved things when it comes to the photo and video quality, but it wasn't really lacking in the first place either so photo and video quality is certainly a strong point for the a20s, especially considering the price range that it's in. This is a test video using the Samsung Galaxy a20s using the front-facing camera at 1080p at 30 frames per second. This is a test video using the Samsung Galaxy a20s. Using the main camera at 1080p, nice, quick autofocus and here's a test video using the Samsung Galaxy a20s with the ultra-wide angle, camera.

It is pretty bright outside at the moment. So there's quite a bit of contrast between the areas that are in the sun and the areas that are in the shade. Now, with this device we're getting three gigabytes of ram and the Qualcomm snapdragon 450 processors, I did run a geek bench 5 benchmark test with the phone, and these are the scores that I got, so I got a single core score of 148 and a multi-core score of 921. So what I recommend doing is downloading geek bench 5 on your current phone running this benchmark test and then comparing the results that you get to these scores right here now, video recording with the a20s maxes out at 1080p at 30fps, with both the back and front cameras and with the a20s we are getting a pretty large 4 000 William hour internal battery, so you're going to be getting very nice battery life with this phone as well. Now the software with the a20s is android 10, as I mentioned earlier.

Originally, it was android nine pi, but it has gotten that update, but now that we've gone over the major specifications of the phone, let's take a closer look at the hardware. Now, in general, this phone is held up very well over the year that I've had it. Everything still feels really solid. Here, it's been nice and reliable, which is awesome, that's definitely important for a smartphone and I think it's still a really stylish device. I really like this material on the back, especially it is reflective, and it does pick up fingerprints, but I, like the really wavy, look to it now, taking a look on the left side of the phone, we have the slot for the micro SD card and sim card.

Then we have the volume up and volume down then on the right side, with the power button, then up top we have the noise-canceling microphone and then on the bottom. We have the speaker. We have the USB c port for charging and data transfer. Furthermore, we have the microphone, and we have the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack and then on the back. Like I just mentioned, we have that wavy look.

We have the fingerprint sensor, we have the triple camera setup and a beam pod format, and we have the flash. So is the Samsung Galaxy a20s still worth buying when this phone was launched a year ago it was a very competitive phone, and it still remains that way. Now, of course, it does depend on what other options are out there. I know there are many other good phones in this price range, including the Moto G fast, for example, and you might even want to look at the a21s to see how much more that costs most likely. It is still going to be quite a bit of extra money, but some of my favorite things about this phone include the large display that still does look perfect, even though it isn't AMOLED, and it's only LCD.

I like the camera quality, and I've already said that quite a few times, the ultra-wide angle, camera especially does take very good usable photos. I appreciate that Samsung has updated the software to android, 10, and they've, also very well optimized the device to work well with the Qualcomm, snapdragon 450 and three gigabytes of ram, so this phone certainly has a lot to offer on its own. It really comes down to what other options are available and if you think those options are a better value, but I definitely don't think this is a phone that you should avoid. That's for sure, because it is a very good, well-rounded device, but I'm really curious to know what you think about the Samsung Galaxy a20s. Definitely let me know, but this is Kevin here.

This is the a20s and I will see you in the next one.
