Samsung Galaxy A12 vs Nokia 3.4 - Best value for money

This is the Nokia 3.4, and right next to it is the Samsung Galaxy A12. Both budget smartphones, similarly priced and also close in specifications, but they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Which of these is the best device for you? Let's find out... What is up guys, welcome to the channel. My name is Izzi and as always I bring you informative tech reviews. Today we're comparing the Samsung Galaxy A12 to the Nokia 3.4 to help you decide which will be the better buy for you since they are closely priced. While it may eventually come down to personal preference choosing between these two, you should know what areas one excels over the other.

I've done separate reviews on both the A12 and Nokia 3.4 and you can find the links down in the description along with my affiliate links should you decide to purchase any of these devices. Also, please subscribe to the channel, we are almost at 10,000 subscribers. With that said, let's get right to it. Both the Nokia 3.4 and Samsung Galaxy A12 are priced the same, about $160 for the 4 gig option. The first advantages on each side starts with the box.

The Nokia 3.4 packs an extra accessory which you're not going to find with the Samsung Galaxy A12 and that is the protective casing. Aside that we have standard accessories in both boxes, however, as an edge, the A12 comes with a 15 watt fast charger in the box. You get just a 10 watts charger with the Nokia 3.4. Believe me it takes a while to charge. On specifications, both devices in this comparison have 4 gigs of RAM and 64 gigs of storage, 720p displays though one is LCD and the other TFT, more on that later.

Similar camera configuration except that the Samsung Galaxy A12 has an extra macro camera and a larger 48 megapixel main camera, also, more on those later. The Samsung Galaxy A12 has a bigger battery at 5,000mAH and also supports fast charging while the Nokia 3.4 has just 4,000mAH battery which is not small by any means. It comes with just a 10 watts charger but it seems to also support fast charging as it detected a fast charger when I plugged it in, and it charged significantly faster. However, I'm not sure of the implication of this on the long term battery life and its charging port, so best stick with the recommended charger that comes in the box. Both devices are built of plastic on the rear and glass on the display, nice designs with textured rear finish for easy grip.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 has a more boxy design with a matte finish towards the bottom part of the rear and a slant stripes textured finish on the larger top part of the rear. Its rear cameras are arranged in a square bump to the top left with the flash just underneath. The Nokia 3.4 on the other hand takes some design inspiration from the Nokia 5.3, with a circular rear camera arrangement which sits nicely with the rear design, also a striped textured finish but straight and not slant like the A12. Though it is blue, there is this shade of purple when you look at it from an angle, cool stuff. It has its fingerprint scanner sitting right underneath its triple rear cameras.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 has a side mounted fingerprint scanner, both are responsive and will do just fine to unlock the device quickly. They also have the same ports and buttons but the Nokia 3.4 has an extra button for google assistant which is sadly not remappable, but it can be disabled. The Samsung Galaxy A12 has all its ports at the bottom whereas the Nokia 3.4 has its headphone jack at the top of the device. On to the display, both have 720p resolution however the Nokia 3.4 is a 6.4 inch IPS LCD display with the infinity-o design, having the selfie camera on the left side of the display. The A12 has a 6.5 inches TFT display with an infinity-v design most will prefer the infinity-o design on the Nokia 3.4. There is very little to separate them at a glance when it comes to the picture quality on the displays, but I'll pick an LCD display over TFT.

While choosing between the Samsung Galaxy A12 and the Nokia 3.4 one deciding factor could be the software experience. Both run Android 10 and should get Android 11. Though Android 12 is only guaranteed with the Nokia, uncertain about the Samsung Galaxy A12. Regardless of the Android versions however, it is between the pure stock Android experience on the Nokia 3.4 and the feature packed One UI on the Samsung Galaxy A12. Both are snappy and will get the job done, but it will all come down to what you like.

I'm sure the more techie or geeky ones will go with the stock Android and those with less care for stock Android and wants feature packed experience should go with One UI. Your choice at the end of the day. By the way, I'm using a custom launcher on the Nokia 3.4, it's the Microsoft Launcher. Another possible deciding factor when choosing between these devices could be the processors. The Samsung Galaxy A12 comes with the Mediatek Helio P35 processor, whereas the Nokia 3.4 uses the Snapdragon 460. Both processors are capable, but the Snapdragon 460 has significantly higher benchmark scores, and also performs better with gaming.

Both phones can handle games decently but with the Samsung Galaxy A12 you will only have the option to play at the lowest settings available, and you're bound to experience lags much sooner than you would with the Nokia 3.4. The Nokia 3.4 offers a more stable gaming experience but I'd say that is only a concern for the A12 if you use your device for gaming more often than not. On other activities like app switching, retention, and multitasking, both will handle it just fine. In an app launch speed test they're mostly on par, but on occasions where one was faster it was the Nokia 3.4. When it comes to the battery life the Samsung Galaxy A12 has the edge with its 5,000mAH battery and fast charging, you're going to get better battery performance here.

But that is not to say the Nokia 3.4's 4,000mAH battery is not good enough, you'll still get at least a full day of use from it. Now on to the cameras. Both devices here have an 8 megapixels selfie camera, 5 megapixels ultra-wide camera, and a 2 megapixels depth sensor. The main camera on the Nokia 3.4 is 13 megapixels while that on the Samsung Galaxy A12 is 48 megapixels. The A12 also has an added 2 megapixels macro camera.

On the available camera modes, the A12 has macro and pro modes, that is to say it might be the better choice if you are into mobile photography. The Nokia 3.4 has night mode which is also missing from the A12. While the final choice for which takes the better photos will come down to personal preference, I uploaded some samples on twitter for comparison and most people preferred pictures from the Samsung Galaxy A12. Here are some of the photos shot on both devices, look through them and tell me in the comments section which you think takes the better pictures overall. There is a 48 megapixel mode on the Samsung Galaxy A12 which allows it take higher resolution photos, this gives it an edge over the Nokia 3.4. Both are able to shoot videos up to 1080p full hd at 30 frames per second from both the front and rear cameras.

Okay, testing, we are testing the selfie cameras of the Nokia 3.4 and the Samsung Galaxy A12, both have an 8-megapixel selfie camera and can shoot full hd videos up to 1080p 30 frames per second. What do you think about the quality, which has the better selfie image quality? In summary, if you're going for the Samsung Galaxy A12, you'll be getting bigger battery, fast charging, and arguably the better cameras. With the Nokia 3.4 you get stock Android, slightly better gaming performance, also arguably the better processor, and better display design. Both phones are priced the same and will give you good value for money. Whichever you choose in the end will be based on your usage as I have already highlighted their strengths and weaknesses.
