Samsung Galaxy A02s vs Samsung Galaxy A12 - Who Will Win?

Hey everybody- this is Andre here covering for Kevin on the Kevin breeze channel and in this video we're going to be doing a comparison between the Samsung Galaxy a02s and the Samsung Galaxy a12. To get some more information on the pricing and availability of these devices be sure to check the links in the description. These links will take you directly to the phones on Samsung's website, where a lot of the time they run some great trade-in deals that you might not be able to find anywhere else. That being said, let's get started so the Samsung Galaxy a02s has a six and a half inch pl sips lcd, with a resolution of 720p, a PPI of 270, an aspect ratio of by 20x9 and a screen to body ratio of 81.8 percent. The Samsung Galaxy a12 has a six and a half inch pl sips lcd, as well, with a resolution of 720p, a PPI of 264, an aspect ratio of 20 by 9 and a screen to body ratio of 85.5. So really these displays are going to be almost the same.

The main noticeable difference between the two is that the Samsung Galaxy a12 has a slightly higher screen to body ratio, so the bezels are a little smaller, which makes the screen look a little bigger. Having smaller bezels means the phone's going to look a lot more sleek and a lot more modern, but overall they do look almost the same display wise now. Both phones have a water drop notch for the front facing camera, which I personally don't like this appearance at all. It makes the bezel look thicker than it actually is, and it's just a more dated, look as opposed to the hole punch. That looks a lot more modern, so really being that these are both newer phones.

I do wish they had the hole, punch, design, and I'm hoping that in successors in the future. They do change to that. Look because I think it looks a lot better now. As far as the front-facing cameras go, the Samsung Galaxy a02s has a five megapixel front-facing camera, whereas the front-facing camera for the Samsung Galaxy 812 is eight megapixels. Now the Samsung Galaxy a02s has 64 gigabytes of internal storage with micros card expansion, and the same goes for the Samsung Galaxy a12.

Now this is definitely a good amount of internal storage, especially compared to some other entry-level smartphones. A lot of them only have 32 gigabytes of internal storage, which, in my opinion, is definitely not enough. I would say 64 gigabytes, isn't amazing. I would consider it more of a minimum, but the fact that both devices have that instead of 32 is pretty good. To give you an idea of what this looks like right now, both phones have stuff that you would normally use on a daily basis, downloaded onto them, including the system and basic apps, and it's really not taking up more than 30 of the storage on either of these phones definitely a decent amount of space.

If you're taking a lot of photos and videos- or if you have a lot of apps or larger things like games, then you might need to use the micros card to expand the storage on these phones, but for basic use. It is pretty good now. Neither of these phones have wireless charging, but the Samsung Galaxy a12 does have a fingerprint scanner. Now the Samsung Galaxy a02s doesn't have a fingerprint scanner, which is unfortunate, but it does have faced unlock, which is a nice alternative. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy a12, it does have a fingerprint scanner right here on the power button, which I think is great.

This is my favorite location for a fingerprint scanner, and also it works very well. Let's try it out so right now the phone is locked, and here we go. Let's try it one more time, as you can see, it works really well, and that second time my thumb was in a really weird position, not quite even on the scanner properly, and it still did recognize it, and it's still unlocked really fast with no issues, and this phone also does have faced unlock as well. So, even though the a02s doesn't have a fingerprint scanner, both devices do have faced unlock, which is nice in the case of the a02s. It is too bad.

It has no fingerprint scanner, but at least it has faced unlock, which is still more convenient than a pin. So that's good, at least taking a look at the camera setup to these two phones, the Samsung Galaxy a02s has a 13 megapixel, rear camera, 2, megapixel depth, sensing camera and a 2 megapixel macro camera. The Samsung Galaxy 812 has a 48 megapixel rear camera, a 5 megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 2 megapixel depth, sensing camera and a two megapixel macro camera. So definitely on paper, the Samsung Galaxy a12 does have a better camera. Not only does it have an ultra-wide camera that the Samsung Galaxy a02s doesn't have, but it also has a much higher megapixel rear camera as well.

So let's see how these cameras actually look, starting with the Samsung Galaxy a12, the image is definitely good. It's decently crisp, and the colors are balanced. Well, it's nothing too special. It definitely doesn't have the feel of those high-end flagship phones, but I would say it's pretty usable so far. It doesn't have any problems with exposure and I would say overall, it does look decent.

The ultra-wide mode is really nice, it's a little blurry when you go into ultra-wide, but at the same time a lot of entry-level smartphones that have ultra-wide cameras do have some sort of distortion. Sometimes the outer part of the image is a little warped, but you don't see that with this camera really the only drawback is. It is a little blurry, but it's really not that bad. Now checking out the macro mode. You can see those close-up details there.

It's not really that impressive. The image isn't really as crisp as I would expect a macro camera to be and there's a little of a glare on the outer edge. But that might be the angle in the specific lighting of this image other than that the colors are pretty well-balanced, and it looks decent. This is the front-facing camera for the Samsung Galaxy a12. It does look pretty good.

The image isn't quite the best. The exposure is a little high, but nothing too bad. It's not amazing, but it is usable I would say in a professional setting, if I were taking pictures for serious content creation. I don't think I would use this camera that much, but at the same time, for casual use, it is pretty good. This is the portrait mode.

The nice thing about this portrait mode is you can control the blur of the portrait mode. So if you want the subject to stand out a lot, you can turn the blur all the way up. If you want it to look more normal, you can turn the blur down. Overall, it's not the greatest, but it's not bad either. I would definitely say it is usable now checking out the normal camera mode of the Samsung Galaxy a02s.

It does look decent. It doesn't have quite as good quality as the Samsung Galaxy a12, but then again it's not really that much worse either the colors are decently balanced, but it's not quite as vivid as the a12 and the image is actually pretty crisp too. This is the macro mode and honestly, I'm actually pretty impressed by this macro mode. There's still a glare there. Just like there was with the Samsung Galaxy a12, but I think the details are a little more crisp too.

You can really see the close-up details really well without it being blurry or grainy. This is the front-facing camera for the Samsung Galaxy a02s. Now this is definitely not as good quality as the Samsung Galaxy a12. I definitely wouldn't use this camera in a professional setting either. I don't really know if it's even that usable for casual use any picture I take with this camera.

Furthermore, I wouldn't really want to post on social media, whether I'm doing social media for a serious professional purpose or, if I'm just doing it for fun. It just doesn't really look that good, maybe something like snap, something that you're just sending a picture for fun. Maybe I could understand that, but as far as making a picture that you actually want to use for something, I don't really think that this front facing camera is really that usable for that purpose. Let's check out portrait mode surprisingly, even though I still wouldn't really use it for anything, the portrait mode isn't as bad as I was expecting. It's pretty decently, blended again, you can control the blur, which is a really nice feature, and I really wasn't expecting it to be blended that well now, since the quality of the overall image isn't really that great, especially the colors, I don't think that having a good portrait mode in itself makes that big a difference.

At the same time, it is interesting to note the portrait mode is actually pretty decent in comparison to the quality of the rest of the camera. Now, overall, I would say that, although the Samsung Galaxy a02s seems to have a better macro camera, the overall performance of the camera is better with the Samsung Galaxy 812. It does have a better rear camera and a more usable front-facing camera. So I will give it that, in addition to that, both cameras can shoot video in 1080p on both the front and rear cameras. So there's really not much of a difference there.

Now, internally, the Samsung Galaxy a02s gets four gigabytes of ram with a Qualcomm snapdragon 450 processors. I ran a geek bench 5 benchmark test on this phone a little while ago, and it came back with a single core score of 129 and a multi-core score of 488. Now these scores really aren't that great. If you're doing anything above basic activities like sending text messages making calls, maybe browsing the web a little and doing some content consumption. It's not really going to hold up.

It's definitely not going to handle things like gaming that require higher amounts of processing. So that's something to keep in mind now. The Samsung Galaxy 812 also gets four gigabytes of ram, and it has the MediaTek hello p35 processor. I ran a geek bench 5 benchmark test on this phone as well. It came back with a single core score of 169 and a multi-core score of 965.

So again anything that much over basic activities is not going to go too well with either of these phones, but really the Samsung Galaxy a12 has significantly higher processing power than the Samsung Galaxy a02s. If you're doing a little more moderate activities like higher levels of video streaming and that sort of content, consumption and maybe some photo editing and that sort of stuff as well and maybe some light gaming like a really simple game that doesn't take up a lot of processing power, then the Samsung Galaxy a12 would probably work out for you. But if you're doing those activities with the Samsung Galaxy a02s, then you're most likely going to have a little of trouble, because the processing power for this phone just really isn't that great. Now, both of these phones have 5 000 William hour batteries that support 15 watt fast charging, and this is some great battery power. It's going to give you a lot of life and the fast charging is really nice because you'll be able to charge the battery faster.

Now, in conclusion, which one of these is the better phone, I would definitely say, specs, wise and everything else, the Samsung Galaxy a12 is gonna, have much higher capabilities than the Samsung Galaxy a02s. Not only does it have a much more powerful processor and a better camera, but it also has a fingerprint scanner, whereas the Samsung Galaxy a02s doesn't, and not only that, but the fingerprint scanner is in a location, that's really hard to beat. This is probably the best location possible for a fingerprint scanner in general, unlocking the phone as far as security and everything goes is going to be a lot more convenient. Another thing to note is the display, even though the display is almost the same, the Samsung Galaxy a12 has significantly thinner bezels, which gives it a more modern look and just a better experience with the display in general. Now the one thing the Samsung Galaxy a02s does have is a better macro camera and that's a really subjective thing, because really, when looking super close, it's not really that much of a difference.

So I definitely wouldn't base the decision on which phone has a better macro camera. It's really a small detail and when you really compare the two, I don't personally think either of them are usable for professional purposes and if you are looking for a phone that has a camera that you can use for professional purposes, I don't think these phones are really going to cut it for you. I think in that case you might want to look at something a little higher end like the Samsung Galaxy a51, for example. That has an excellent camera, but as far as casual use, I really do think that the Samsung Galaxy a12, while being a bit of a step-up from the Samsung Galaxy a02s in general, does have a more usable camera, more usable processor, better features in general for casual use if you're doing anything more than basic activities like sending text messages, making calls doing a little of video streaming here and there and web browsing all that stuff. If you're doing anything more, then the Samsung Galaxy a12 is most likely going to suit.

Your needs better. That being said, if you're still torn between these two phones and want some more information on pricing and availability be sure to check the links in the description they'll. Take you right to the phones on Samsung's website, where a lot of the time they have some great trade-in deals that you might not be able to find anywhere else, and that might help you make your decision better. I hope you guys enjoyed the video and, as always I'll see you in the next one.
