Realme 8 Pro Review: Not a Worthy Successor? By Gadgets 360

Let's set the tone with the pricing. The 8 pro starts at 17 999 rupees for the base variant with 6 GB of ram and 128 GB of storage, while the other variant with 8 GB of ram and 128 GB of storage is priced a hundred at 19 nine rupees.

This makes it cheaper than the Realme seven pro now with that out of the way. Let's talk about the design. Realm has taken a new approach here, as the Realme eight pro has some bold styling there's. Obviously the rather tacky dare to leave tagline across the back of the smartphone, but it also dawns really bright, colors called infinite blue, which I have for this review and illuminating yellow. If you do prefer something subtle, the infinite black option is the one for you.

The camera system has also received a cosmetic upgrade. It has a quad camera setup at the back that protrudes in a two-step design. Much like the Redmi Note 10 pro max the first step houses the flash, while the second has four individual camera lenses. Despite all the busy design elements, I found the realm 8 pro to be relatively slim and easy to hold coming to the front it pretty much resembles its predecessor, the Realme 7 pro you have a 6.4 inch super AMOLED display with a hole, punch front camera in the top left corner. You also get an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Realm does say that the display is brighter than the Realme 7 pro, but the issue here is that it skips stereo speakers and uses ash dragon trail reinforced glass instead of corning gorilla glass. The display is crisp, and it gets bright enough when outdoors and the in-display fingerprint scanner is quick to unlock the smartphone. The underpinnings of the Realme 8 pro remain unchanged. However, the same Qualcomm snapdragon, 720g processor keeps the show running, and it is paired with the same storage and ram configurations. The battery capacity is also the same at 4500mah, but charging speed is now limited to 50 watt, while the 7 pro could do 65 watts.

There is another compromise in the connectivity department, and you have to settle for Bluetooth 5 instead of Bluetooth 5.1. On the other hand, some improvements include a better primary camera which we will get to in just a moment and android 11 out of the box compared to android 10, which the Realme 7 pro offered. When it comes to the UI, you get Realme UI 2.0, on top of android 11, along with the February android security patch, which is slightly dated at this point. The UI is customized, but not to the point of confusion, but you do have a ton of bloatware pre-installed, and you will receive a few spammy notifications from the hey fun theme store and even the browser in terms of performance. I did not face any issues while using the realm 8 pro with everyday apps Call of Duty mobile ran without any issues, and it defaulted to the high preset for graphics as well as frame rate.

The game ran fine at these settings and I did not notice any lag or stutter. The Realme 8 pro was slightly warm to the touch after playing the game for 20 minutes and registered a 6 battery drop. Speaking of battery drop. The battery on the Realme 8 pro lasted me about a day and a half with my usage in our HD video loop test, the phone managed to go on for 26 hours and 14 minutes, which is a very good score. Now, let's move on to the main highlight of the realm 8 pro the cameras, the rear, m8 pro houses, 108 megapixels, primary rear camera, which isn't very common in the sub 20 000 rupee market. It also has an 8 megapixel, ultra-wide angle, camera, a 2 megapixel macro camera and a 2 megapixel black and white camera daylight. Shots taken with the realm 8 pro were decent objects at a distance were recognizable but were not as sharp as I would have liked. I found the AI to be a tad aggressive, bumping up color saturation unnecessarily. At times, you can shoot at the full 108 megapixel resolution as it had better details and gives you the option to crop into the photo after shooting.

Close-Ups were good, and the phone does manage a soft depth effect around the subject. However, I noticed that the realm 8 pro failed to capture detail very well while shooting bright red flowers, the portrait shots were better with good edge detection between the subject and the background. The phone also lets you set the level of blur before taking the shot. The ultra-wide angle, camera produce softer images which lack detail, so it's best to use it for landscape shots. The macro camera is limited in terms of resolution, but it does help to deliver a sharp usable shot at close range, low light shots taken in the default mode looked good, but details weren't as sharp on zooming in the night mode takes about 5 seconds to take a shot and produce sharper images with better details, selfies taken with the realm 8 pro or crisp, and the phone managed to capture sharp shots in most lighting conditions.

It does offer the option to take portrait selfies as well. These photos had good edge detection, and it could detect faces even with masks on video recording tops out at 4k for the primary camera, but it lacks stabilization at this resolution. Footage shot at 1080p isn't stabilized by default, and you need to enable ultra steady mode manually. There is an ultra steady max mode as well, which shoots footage using the ultra-wide angle, camera for better stability. The process seems unnecessarily complicated, with an extra step for stabilization.

Video quality was average overall. To put it bluntly, the realm 8 series is not a significant upgrade over the realm 7 series. It's not very different from its predecessor and strangely, the list of feature omissions is a lot longer than the list of editions on the realm 8 pro. Yes, the phone is priced lower than the Realme 7 pro, but I still don't think it provides the same kind of value for money. The Realme 7 pro would be a better pick than the Realme 8 pro for most people, because you get faster charging steering speakers and better camera performance.

Plus you can save some money when the realm 7 pro goes on sale.
