Pixel 5a with 5G: Everything you need to know! By 9to5Google

We know that the pixel, 6 and 6 pro could end up providing the biggest leap for the made by google smartphone series in years, but the pixel 5a with 5g is the newest, affordable phone and the first device as part of that wider 2021 lineup. But now it's released. You might think you know everything about this latest affordable, android device, much like ourselves did actually but like many things in life, there is far more nuance here. That needs to be fully explained and also working out just where this follow-up 2d Pixel 4a fits, is also going to be a confusing prospect with the pixel 6 series on the horizon and some existing devices offering very much of the same thing. The kicker right up top, though, is, as this latest pixel is getting an even more limited release than normal.

The only two markets where it will officially be available is the US and Japan and pre-orders have opened right now on the Google store in both nations, whether the official launch day posted as thursday, August 26th, where hopefully, devices should be in people's hands limited releases are nothing new, but the Pixel 4a saw a similar sort of launch period and launched preview pane last year before coming to further regions shortly after the launch knight in event for the pixel 4 a5g and pixel 5 devices. However, unlike last year, Google has not confirmed if this will be the case this time around. Unfortunately, so that means it may genuinely be limited to the US and Japan and sadly, those of us in global markets won't be able to get hold of this mid-range affordably focused pixel this year. That is, unless you're happy to import a device and deal with any associated complications there. A quick glance at the spec sheet of the pixel 5a, with 5g and you'll, probably struggle to see the differences between the pixel 5 and the 4a 5g.

The design is practically identical to the latter, but with a notable difference being a metal chassis if you've held the pixel 5. The experience is fairly similar from what we've been told. A bio resin coating is over a metal unibody with five layers of forest green paint. This means it does way more around 15 grams, more to be precise, like the Pixel 4a and the pixel 45g, though there is only one color available and google calls this mostly black, but, as we know it's a very deep, deep, green. Another touch that indicates this is a Google design device.

Is the return of that playful ridged lighter green, lock button, which I think is another welcome addition. Probably one of the biggest upgrades is in the water resistance. Here, though, the pixel 5a with 5g, is the first a series phone to include an ip67 water and dust resistance rating, there's no loss of a 3.5 millimeter headphone port here either, which is another massive bonus, and that's just great for wired, audio enthusiasts and just everyday convenience. If you don't want to carry Bluetooth headphones around, the display is covered with gorilla glass 6. As well, which is a huge step over the gorilla glass 3 that was used on the 4a and 4a 5g, and it should provide a great protection element for that, slightly larger 6.34 inch 2400 by 1080p display, which equates to 413 PPI over there. There about the OLED screen is capped at 60.

Hertz, though, which is a little disappointing as a 90 hertz refresh rate had been rumored by some out there, but it is capped at 60. Unfortunately, like its predecessors, the pixel 5a with 5g is powered by Qualcomm silicon and not google's own tensor chip, the snapdragon 765g chipset to be precise, and although it was released back in q1 2020, it's still a step-up over the Pixel 4a's snapdragon 730 g, as this phone is technically targeting that this is also backed by six gigabytes of ram and 128 gigabytes of internal storage, with only the one configuration available. So there's no eight gigabyte ram option and higher storage tier available you'll also find a titan m security module inside. It's got Bluetooth, 5.0 support, 802.11, ac, Wi-Fi and sub 6 5g connectivity. There are also standard stereo speakers consisting of an app speaker and a bottom firing cutout that avoids the admittedly poor, pixel 5 under display earpiece speaker for better overall audio.

We are hoping, though, for exceptional lifespan, as a pixel 5a, with 5g includes the biggest battery module in a made by google smartphone. Today, the hundred and eighty million pound battery is almost twenty percent larger than the three thousand eight hundred and eighty-five million parcel found in the four a5g and, as we have stated, it is the largest ever battery found in a pixel phone, but as an affordable android. There is no wireless charging included here with just an USB port and 18 watt wired charging available for power. The pixel 5a with 5g does not ship, though with android 12, but instead the latest stable release, which is technically android 11. You can, though, install the android 12 beta programs, which we've done some stellar deep dives into, and you can check them out, should you wish, which will obviously will give you access to the likes of the material you redesign and then much more of that interesting stuff.

On top, you will get three years of full OS upgrades, though up to and including android 14 with a further year of security patches and extra support on top. Not many devices at this price range will offer such long-term support. So it's actually a big bonus if you do care for keeping the device for longer than a couple of years. So that's the software and the main hardware out of the way in terms of cameras. You're, probably wondering has anything changed well.

In short, no, the pixel 5a with 5g is shipping with the exact same camera setup as seen on the pixel for a 5g and pixel 5 before it. That means utilizing the aging Sony, mix 363 sensors and the main shooter is rated at 12.2 megapixels with a 77 degree field of view, which you've all probably come accustomed to. The 16 megapixel ultrawide lens has that same 117 degree fields of view too, for what amounts to exactly the same setup. While it is effectively the same setup as found on the pixel 4 a5g and the pixel 5. There are a couple of things missing here, and they are the spectral and flicker sensors as they're not present on the 5a.

These sensors help improve shooting when there is a pulsing light source such as under fluorescent or led lighting, we're not entirely sure if any issues associated with light sources have been resolved by software, but the sensors are missing from the Pixel 4a, which doesn't seem to suffer from any related issues in regard to photo and video quality. All the camera software features do remain the same though so that means things like cinematic, pan, portrait mode night sight and the associated Castro photography, Motorola included. Here too, some owners of the four a5 g and the pixel five they're, probably wondering what happens to those devices well, the middle child or the pixel 4 a5g of that 2020 lineup does look suspiciously close to the pixel 5 with 5g, and so it's very likely it's going to fade off into obscurity as the newer device takes the opening spot in the 2021 lineup for Google. For the foreseeable we wouldn't say it's particularly much of an upgrade save in a few areas. So if you are holding onto the pixel 4 a5g, then you are unlikely to switch anyway.

As for the pixel 5, it's unlikely that 2020s, a flagship made by google smartphone will be kept in the lineup on stock, has dried up at the various online and brick and mortar stores across the globe. For those of us, though, in regions where the pixel 5a with 5g won't officially be available, we simply don't know at this stage what google has planned, but the Pixel 4a will remain on sale, at least for now. The upside is, though, that, with the same core specifications, the experience shouldn't differ, save in a few areas, such as battery longevity and that added ip67 rating over the Pixel 4a with 5g and the pixel 5, which is going to be a major bonus. If you are looking to pick this device up, and it's available in your region. The downside to all of this, though, is the limited nature of the release of the pixel 5a, with 5g means that we can only give you us and Japanese pricing at 449 449.51 700 yen respectively. It's a perfect package, even with what is effectively the same internals as the pixel 5 and 4a 5g, while the Pixel 4a will remain on sale for a little while longer for just 100 more the upgrades is pretty remarkable, to say the least.

That said, if you don't like larger phones, it is going to be a tougher sell than it probably ought to be, and we don't know if Google has another smaller device planned in the future.
