Pixel 4a First Impressions + Camera Test vs Pixel 3a!

For the record I'm done trying to make you all okay, so it's! Finally, here I do have the Pixel 4a in my hands. I think I pre-ordered this about a month ago, and it finally arrived last night now I'm coming to my Pixel 4a from my note, 20 ultra. So of course, there's going to be a significant drop-off right. You see, I thought I would miss the bigger form factor, the bigger display and just the overall flag clip experience you get from the note 20 ultra, but that wasn't really the case at all. You see the Pixel 4a is such a well-built snappy device with an exceptional camera that it really made me question, is the note 20 ultra really worth four times the price of the 4a, and to answer that question we need to take a closer look at this device. I feel, like.

Google has really learned a lot from the original pixel. When google decided to enter the smartphone market, they only had one mission in mind and that was to bring us the best stock android experience on a premium device. Well, Google didn't really nail the premium market. You see some people like myself, love the pixel flagship, lineup and others simply just didn't so. In may 2019 google decided to target a different market enter the Pixel 3a google decided to make a mid-range device with the lower-end chipset, but with that same fluid stock, android experience and the best-in-class camera and to no one's surprise, this thing sold really well.

The mid-range market I feel like is a market that google should be targeting pixel devices already run so well because of how well optimized stock android is, so you don't necessarily need flagship specs to get the same. Os experiences like you would say on the note.20 ultra and Google has nailed computational photography down to a tee, so google, going with a single rear lens, isn't necessarily going to hurt them just quickly before we do continue. If this is your first time here on this channel, consider leaving a like down below and subscribing to the channel, because I do have a ton of content coming up on the Pixel 4a and my galaxy z4 2 is set to arrive next week. So just make sure you are subscribed, and you have that bell notification icon turned on to all notifications, so you don't miss a single upcoming video. I promise you it's going to be hype first impressions.

I was really taken aback by just how small and compact google made the 4a in comparison. Quite frankly, the 3a does look gigantic and outdated. Google was able to give us a smaller form factor all while being able to give us a bigger 5.8 inch. OLED panel, the 4a looks like a modern device that was made for 2020. We do have an 82.53 screen to body ratio, which is about nine percent. More screen real estate than the 3a, so consider me impressed the back is made of plastic, but it does have that nice matte finish to it, which feels excellent to the touch and provides a ton of grip, I'm actually quite comfortable carrying the foray around without a case just because of the smaller form factor and this extra grip.

Due to this matte finish over on the back, we do still have a fingerprint reader, and you know what I'm done with my infatuation over. In display fingerprint scanners, like I've, used both an optical and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on a ton of flagship devices this year, and quite honestly, they just aren't reliable the sheer amount of times I've gotten locked out of my phones is simply far too many. So in the midst of a pandemic with everyone wearing masks, I think we need to go back to the fingerprint readers, but they need to be physical readers on the back of the device. Quite honestly, I really don't care if they're not as secure as an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, just because I value convenience over security any day of the week and of course, we still have the iconic pixel trademark of being able to pull down on the fingerprint reader to view notifications, an underrated feature that I use every day to no one's surprise. We still have a headphone jack located over on the top.

I would have personally preferred it to be over on the bottom, but I'll live with it being on the top. This year, the power button and the volume markers feel a bit sturdier. They do provide more feedback when you do press down on them and overall they just sound louder this year. Take a listen for yourself. This display is pretty much the same as the one found on the 3a.

It's still an OLED panel with a PPI of 444. We do get HDR support this year as well as gorilla glass 3. It's nice to see google moving away from dragon trail, because I'm not sure you guys can notice or not, but my Pixel 3a has a ton of scratches on it. So hopefully gorilla gas 3 does a better job on the 4a. So far, I've been able to consume some content on this, and I have to say it's a more pleasurable experience this year, just because we do have a bigger screen with smaller bezels.

So it is a more immersive experience. Just in case some of you out there did forget. This is a 350 phone, and this 1080p panel is more than acceptable. If you aren't the type of person who notices, pixel densities and high refresh rates, then this display will serve you well, no problem personally for me. Coming from the note 20 ultra, it was a bit of an adjustment process, but one that I quickly adapted to both the Pixel 3a and the 4a have excellent speakers.

I feel like the 4a does have better too speakers, and they do sound a tad bit louder. But let me know which one you guys think sounds better in the comments below the 4a definitely feels snappier over its predecessor than 3a, and this is mainly due to the new snapdragon 730 chipsets and 6 gigabytes of ram found within the 4a. You are able to play games such as Call of Duty mobile in high settings at 60 fps. I did notice a few frame drops after about 10 minutes of play and the phone did get rather hot, but it's nothing significant enough. That would hinder your gaming and, of course you cannot talk about any pixel device without mentioning the cameras.

Once again, we have a single 12 megapixel lens, with electronic image stabilization and over on the front, we have an 8, megapixel, selfie shooter sensor wise. It's the same Sony sensors. Google has been using since the pixel 3, but does it capture better pictures, the Pixel 4a and the pixel 4 produce images that are almost impossible to distinguish it looks like Google did, give the 4a a flagship camera system, the same images in comparison to the Pixel 3a produce higher contrast, sharper details and more accurate color tones even night mode has improved on the foray in comparison to the 3a. Here are some images zoomed up to seven times and the Pixel 4a does a better job of keeping detail than the 3a. So early impressions indicate that the camera system has definitely gotten better on the 4a.

So if you are looking to upgrade to the 4a just because you want a better camera, the Pixel 4a is vastly improved this year. Now, video on the foray, just like other pixel devices, still struggles. Pixel devices still can't shoot in frame rates common of modern day smartphones, if you are comparing the 4a to say the iPhone SE or even an average Samsung device. Both those phones do a better job with the dynamic range and just overall quality. I've only spent one day with the device and battery life so far seems to be terrific.

I unplugged my foray around 8am this morning, and it is now 7 p. m, and I have around 35 battery health so, on the first day, battery life checks out pretty well my initial impressions with the foray just like so many people out. There is very positive. It truly seems, like Google has given us everything. We asked for a great camera, a large online panel stereo speakers and all of this just for 350 dollars.

Take that in for a second, if you think about it, there isn't much of a trade-off with the foray sure we don't have wireless charging, we don't have the latest processor, and we don't have a premium build, but these are all trade-offs. I'm willing to sacrifice for a price tag of 350 I'll leave you guys with my Pixel 3a review. You guys can watch that right here and stay tuned for my full Pixel 4a review, which should be dropping in about two weeks from now, as always I'll catch you guys all in the next one. Thank you so much for watching and don't forget to flex with your tech.
