Pixel 3a & 3a XL vs Pixel 3 & 3 XL - Everything You Need to Know By ZONEofTECH

Okay, so in yesterday's video I had to look at a mystery box that Google has sent over in case. You missed that video check it out here, but now that a full embargo has lifted. I can finally talk about everything regarding these two new phones in a Pixel 3a Excel and the Pixel 3a, because yes, Google has just unveiled these two brand-new pixel phones- and here are my full impressions on both of them. Okay, so I'm. Actually, a pretty big pixel fan myself. I bought the original pixel when it came out- and this is even before Google started, sending over anything, and I've used every single pixel ever since, as my daily driver for quite some time, usually from October, when a new pixel phone gets released up until March or April a year after.

This is when Samsung releases a brand-new Galaxy phone I'm using a pixel. As my main Android driver case II, don't know the way I test phones is that I always have an iPhone and an Android. When, let's say a new pixel gets released, that becomes my main phone and then the iPhone becomes my secondary and I use it as my main phone for a few weeks or a few months until I'd or something better comes along, or I decide to switch back to the iPhone as my main phone for a specific reason, and then my pixel becomes my secondary, but still my main Android phone, my s10, plus, is now replaced by iPhone tennis Mac's is my main daily driver ever since it was released, but now that Google has released not one but two new pixel phones, I might replace my s10 again. However, these two brand-new pixel phones are not Google's big pixel for this year or anything like that, in fact, they're, not even the pixel 3s, instead they're more entry-level options to the pixel line. We all know that Google's pixel phones haven't been selling that well, and this is Google's response to that.

The pixel 3 a and a pixel 3 an Excel okay. So how much do these cost and how different are they from the pixel 3 and the pixel 3 XL? Well, the pixel 3 a costs 400 pounds in the UK. This is for the 64 gigabyte model. This is the only model by the way, and this is almost half of what the original pixel 3 used to cost and then the pixel 3 an Excel. This one costs 470 pounds which is again almost half of what the original pixel 3 Excel used to cost.

So the pixel 3 a and a pixel 3 an Excel are definitely priced as mid-range phones, but, are they? That is the question well yeah kind of in order for Google to get to this price. They of course have to cut a few features out of the equation from the pixel 3, so we are losing on a few things, but not as many as you would expect so. First off they both come with an OLED display, which is very surprising to see at this price point, especially on the 400 pound Pixel 3a, now to display on both are a bit lower res than on the pixel threes they're, full HD, plus rather than quad HD plus. So realistically, you want is that much of a difference. Anyways.

The biggest difference would have been between LCD and eyelids, and I'm really surprised to see OLED on the pixel three A's. Now, aside from the resolution that displays are a bit smaller as well, so the 3a comes with a five point: six inches play, which really enough is actually larger than the 5.5 inch one on the pixel three, the pixel 3x held this one is the one that comes with a smaller display, so it comes with a six inch vs. This is point three inch display that we had on a pixel three XL. All models come with four gigabytes of RAM, so you're not really missing out on any of that. But what you are missing out on is the processor, the three and the three excel come with a snapdragon 845.

Yes, 845, not 855, because the 855 wasn't out yet when the pixel 3 was released and then the 3a and the 3a Excel they both come with a Snapdragon 670. So if you're into gaming and more intensive apps, then the pixel 3s are indeed a better choice, but for anything else such as browsing the web watching YouTube videos and social media, the 670 is more than powerful enough to handle that, firstly, I haven't noticed any lag on either of these phones, since they run with stock Android and their pixel phones, they're, very well, optimized now, I know that some reviewers have had issues with a pixel three. Personally, aside from the right management, I haven't in a 3a and a 3a Excel, they seem to be incredibly fluid. Everything is very smooth, and I do like feeling that's Nexus vibe once again, I really, really missed that. Ok, so what are our trade-offs? Do we get with a 3a in the three XL? Well, they're still fast charging on both, but while the charging is missing from the three A's, which is a big downside coming from a flagship but then again at this price point, it's almost impossible to find a phone that does have wireless charging in the first place, and you get Stair of speakers on both of these.

Just like on the larger pixel threes, which I do you like the pixel three XL speakers are both oriented towards the front while on the three A's ones on the front and the other ones. On the side, a lot of manufacturers exclude this from their phones, even flat chip ones, and it's great having some good speakers for when you need to use them all doors or like me, in the shower yeah I, listen to music on my phone in the shower whew nice external speaker doesn't have enough battery. So yeah and I need some good speakers for that, and in case you're wondering yes, here's how they actually sound like now, personally, I actually preferred Pixel 3a and a Pixel 3a Excel in terms of the sound they sound clear. They don't sound as loud as the pixel 3 Excel, but it D sound clear. Let me know the comments, if you think that's the case as well and speaking on the speakers and the sound, the 3a and a 3a Excel.

They also come with a headphone jack which the pixel threes don't, so we actually have an advantage over two pixel threes. In this case we don't get water resistance, though so remember when I said it I like using the pixel 3 excel in the shower, to listen to music, well avoid doing that with a Pixel 3a and a 3a excel, or you know any water submersion at all. They don't have any water resistance, so yeah, okay. So what about the build quality ends? The design well build quality wise, the pixel 3 Excel does feel more premium, so the frame is made out of metal on the pixel, 3 Excel, verses, I, believe plastic on a Pixel 3a and a Pixel 3a Excel. Then the frosted glass texture that we get to the pixel threes is missing from the pixel three A's, where it seems like we're getting a different textured plastic and, of course, that the bezels are another big difference here as well.

So we don't have a knob to an idea of the pixel three A's, but we do have slightly thicker side bezels, as well as a thicker top and bottom bezel. I. Don't think that this is that big of an issue considering the price point but fun fact, the Pixel 3a Excel does look almost identical to the pixel to Excel from 2017. We get the same just black and Cooling the white colors on a pixel three A's, but instead of the not pink color that we got for the pixel threes, we now get this new purplish color yeah. That's that's how it's actually called, and I do like it.

I do really like it. It has this vibrant neon, green power button as well, so I think it looks really, really good. Then the squeeze for the Google Assistant function is still there on both the three A's, and I wasn't expecting to see this. But it seems to me, like both the three A's have the same haptic engine as the larger pixel three Excel dough's in our pixel 3 Excel review I did say that a haptic engine on a pixel 3 Excel, was the best I've seen on any Android phone and the best part about it is that it's also used when typing on the keyboard so typing on a pixel 3 is the most fluid the easiest experience. I've ever had on any phone, including an iPhone.

It's just incredible, and I'm very happy to see the same thing on the mid-range pixel 3 days as well. Ok, so you're all probably wondering what about a camera? Think cell phones have always been known as the ones with one of the best cameras or in some cases the best smartphone camera on the market, and it seems, like google, hasn't made any trade-offs here at all and that's because both the Pixel 3a and a Pixel 3a excel. They use the exact same back facing camera as the pixel 3 and a pixel 3 excel. Now. Did you like the wide-angle front camera that we got to the pixel 3s, but the back facing camera seems to be identical? The specs are identical, and the photos look to me pretty much the same now.

This isn't the full review by the way. These are just my first impressions and from those first impressions, I'm very, very happy with a camera on both of these. We get the same 4k video recording the same night, sights that we get to the pixel 3s and the same amazing, HDR, processing and I. Absolutely love that so the pixel 3s camera was actually one of my picks for the zone of tech, 2019 blind camera test. It seems like both the 3a and the 3 excel, have the exact same back facing camera. Now the pixel 3s visual core is missing from the three A's, but then I haven't really noticed any downgrade in quality at all. In fact, some shots do look even better on the three A's they were a bit more vibrant. So in quite a few cases, I ended up picking the shots from the three A's, probably because the three A's were running on a newer version of Google's camera, which hasn't been released yet for two pixel threes. Also Google will be adding a time-lapse mode to all of their pixel phones.

Finally, this is this was the main thing that we couldn't show in any of the previous note that camera comparisons on a pixel phones, because you know it wasn't there, but probably the best part about pixel phones is that it have zero bloatware and google promises they want updates for at least three years. Yes, pixel 3, a's included, oh and I. Obviously this was not my full review of the pixel three A's, even though our first impression videos end up being more detailed than most in-depth reviews out there.
