Pixel 3 XL vs iPhone XS Max - The ULTIMATE Camera Comparison!

Welcome to the ultimate camera comparison between the iPhones and s-max and a Google Pixel three excel so in my previous videos, I compared the iPhone tennis max with the Samsung Galaxy note, 9 the iPhone 10, as well as the pixel to Excel so do check those videos out in case you missed Elm, but in this one its pixel 3xl oops almost dropped this and the iPhone tennis max. So in this ultimate American person, I'll be testing pretty much everything you can think of when it comes to a camera with these two phones, so I'll be doing over 20 individual test categories from general photography to smart HDR comparison, macro shots, zoom, shots, microphone, tests, front, HDR, portrait mode bit rate comparison, slow-motion shots, time-lapse panorama, auto, focusing speed test, and so, so much more so yeah it's going to be a long, but very interesting. Video so get our snacks ready, get a popcorn ready because yeah this is going to be a very interesting one, sit back, relax and, let's see which one is the smartphone King when it comes to the camera, we're going to start off with some HDR shots taken with the back facing camera. Speaking of the HDR section of this video, the weather's been awful and awful is an understatement, literally no Sun for a few days, so all shots were actually taken in cloudy conditions and rain. So yeah had a really, really fun time. Recording these.

So first off we have this wide-angle shot of this bridge here and the main difference is actually in terms of the color balance, so the pixel 3 is so much darker and warmer, whereas the iPhone tennis max is brighter and also cooler, and then the pixel 3. Now, if you zoom onto the bridge in the middle ?, tennis max, is also much sharper than a pixel 3. Also, there's less noise. If you take a look at the clouds, only iPhone 10s max so in this one I actually do prefer antennas. Now, in the second HDR shot, we can see pretty much the exact same result, so the pixel 3 is darker, but it's time cooler than the iPhone 10s, which is brighter and this time warmer, so sharpness wise, ? 10 s is again sharper, especially if you look at the gate in the middle, but a pixel is in fact more true to life as it's closer to how this actually looks like in real life.

And now here we have a close-up HDR shot, and here we can see another massive difference between the two, so the iPhone 10s is again brighter, maybe a bit too bright and also gets all the backgrounds sharp and focus, whereas the pixel 3 achieves a shot similar to what a DSLR would actually take on a fast aperture again, a pixel 3 is more realistic to what I was seeing in real life, but the iPhone tennis max is overall, a better shot, also sharper on the brickwork on the bottom. Next up we have the macro test, and here I took the exact same shot with the main module, not a zoom lens from the exact same distance. The zoom test is actually coming out after this one, and here in the macro test, we can see the exact same trend as before. The iPhone tennis is brighter when compared to the pixel 3, it's also sharper. If you look at the top portion of the cactus compared to the pixel 3 Excel, however, I feel like it's way too processed, there's a bit too much processing done in post, especially when it comes to sharpening look at the spikes on the cactus.

Let me know in the comments actually, which one do you guys prefer: I still prefer the iPhone 10s. With this one. Moving on to the zoom test now I know, I know what pixel 3 doesn't have optical zoom, because it only has one single camera module, but it does have something called super zoom resolution, zoom essentially enhanced digital zoom, where a certain algorithms can approximate the pixels and basically recreate the original image. Even when zoomed in a bit. Skeptical of this, so, let's see how well it actually works, and this first image taken with 2x zoom on both.

We basically have the exact same trend as before, so the tennis max process, everything a bit too much, as in the pixel 3 gaudy images, exactly the way it was in real life, so very cloudy and dark, whereas the iPhone 10s created this blue sky, which was definitely not a case now, I do prefer the image from the 10s I think it looks better, especially take a look at how much sharper it is thanks to that optical zoom. This is achieved thanks to that second camera module ii, telephoto lens that we have only iPhone tennis max the pixel 3 is also a bit noisier quite a bit noisier than the iPhone 10s is and now in a second image here of this boy, the iPhones and s is again brighter the boy itself being yellow her. Yes, that's that's how this thing is actually called and again. Pixel 3 is more true to life, as in it's really similar to exactly how I've seen this in real life, so yeah in this case I actually do prefer the pixel 3. Moving on to video taken with the back facing camera, this was shot in 4k 60 on the iPhone tennis max and 4k 30 on a pixel, 3 XL.

This is a bit strange, I know: pixel 3xl can only do 4k 30, even though it has the snapdragon 845 processors, meaning that this is the only phone with that processor that cannot do 4k 16, that's because of the HDR processing, my guess, which I'll get to in a second now, in terms of the nitrate, we have 100 3 megabits per second on the iPhone 10s max and 48 megabits per second on the pics of 3 Excel, which is the exact same nitrate as on the pixel 2 XL from last year. By the way. Now, when it comes to the actual color and dynamic range, it's basically the same situation as before the iPhone Tennis max is brighter, but also significantly sharper because of the post-processing. Also, one thing interesting thing to point out is how much wider the video coming from the iPhone Turns Max is when compared to the pixel, but same as before. The pixel manages to reproduce the scene almost perfectly, whereas the iPhone tennis max is way to process, especially terms of the color and also, if you zoom in you, can actually take a look at a brickwork on the buildings.

The pixel 3 gets those perfectly in the shot, whereas the iPhone 10s misses those entirely. So I do prefer the pixel 3 in this one. Moving on to 4k 30 video taken with the back facing camera I've shot this because Apple says that you get hired under micro range on the iPhone Menace max. If you should in 30 frames per second and the pixel 3 also does 4k HDR video as well in 4k 30, so yeah go 4k HDR on both of these phones and here in the first half of the video they're, both very, very good. They expose the sky quite well, and the clouds are very visible, a bit more visible in the iPhone 10s max compared to the pixel, and the iPhone.10S also exposes the trees a bit better, as the shadows are not that harsh. Now, after we get into a dark portion of the scene and the pixel 3 blows out all the highlights, which are a bit more visible on the iPhone 10s.

So yeah highlights wise in this case the iPhone 10s is better, and this is specially visible. If you take a look at a car is on the right-hand side of the video moving on to the stabilization test. This was shot in 4k 60 on the iPhone 10s Max and 4k 30 on a pixel 3 Excel, because that's the highest it can do, and okay first off, we have this section of me walking and here these two videos cannot be more different from this. The pics of three stabilization is just incredible. It's so, so good take a look.

It is. Furthermore, it looks as if I was literally on a gimbals. Furthermore, it looks so so so stable very impressed and then also take a look at how well the pixel exposes the bright highlights: they're, not perfect, but definitely more visible than on the iPhone 10s. However, everything has this very red tint for some reason. Now, when it comes to running they both are pretty similar, so the iPhone tennis max does seem to be a bit more stable, but not by a lot.

Now, when it comes to auto, focusing both are really, really fast about the same I would say the biggest difference here is 4k 60 versus 4k 30 on a pixel which actually makes a huge difference and I also take a look at how gradual the exposure is set on the sky on a pixel 3 versus the iPhone 10s, so the pixel 3 doesn't blow out the sky while the iPhone 10s does just that. But overall, you won't have any issues in terms of auto, focusing with either of these phones, because they're both really, really fast. Okay. So what about low lights? Well, google says that the pixel 3 is the best bar phone for low-light photography. So, let's see how it compares to the iPhone 10s max now disclaimer the nitrite feature that you've seen at the event that one isn't out yet, so it's coming out in a future update, we're not sure when.

So all of this will be taken on auto mode on both of these phones and in this first shot Wow, the pixel 3 is so much brighter than the iPhone 10s max is the 10s did expose the lights better. If you take a look at the ones on the bridge, because nothing gets blown out so very impressive and the 10s is also sharper and a bit more in focus. If you zoom on to the bill in the middle but yeah, that's the pixel. Three definitely takes this. One.

Take a look at how much brighter everything is. How much more light than pixel three captures, so I definitely will for the pixel three next up. We have this shot of this building and some very low light conditions and here's the iPhone 10s max is sharper and much more in focus in terms of the building itself. You can also see how well it exposed the inside of the apartments, but a pixel three does get the plans more in focus and the images overall brighter on the pixel versus the iPhone and next up. We have this lamppost here and there is a very big difference here between the two, so the iPhone 10s gets a much more even exposure and nothing gets blown out of the shots, not even the light bulb itself.

That's very impressive and same goes for all the leaves which the pixel blows out in some cases and even the dark here. If they look at that on the top, it's more visible on the iPhone 10s versus the pixel, so iPhone 10s takes this one. So what about low-light? But this time with a flash turned on, so I took this shot, especially since there was a really strong light source on the left-hand side of the image and the right-hand side was very dark. So I wanted to see how they would both handle this, and in this case we have a very big difference between the two, so ? 10 s max, has a cooler, tint and also blows out the light area on the left, whereas the pixel three exposes that very, very well. And now, if you take a look at the plant in the middle, the pixel 3 gets that perfectly in focus.

The iPhone 10s does a bit too much sharpening in post and the colors are bits way too washed out, but a pixel is too saturated, so yeah the pixel definitely takes this one, but it's not a perfect shot. So now what about low-light with a zoom module, so the pixel 3? You probably know that it doesn't have a zoom module only a single lens. But if you remember from the daytime zoom test that I did before it does have that super resume feature. So yeah. Let's see how well that works and wow, it seems, like the super resume feature, works way better in low lights than in daytime.

So take a look at that the pixel 3 sky is way noisier than the iPhone 10 is max is, but it's also brighter. The biggest difference here is in terms of the building, take a look at that building, it's very impressive, how much clear and how much less noise we have, especially on the top of the building and a whole building, actually in general, on the pixel 3 versus the iPhone 10s max. This is very, very impressive, especially considering how the pixel 3 is using digital zoom versus optical zoom on the iPhone 10 s, and yet it's still better than the 10s okay. Now moving on to taken with the back facing camera in low-light and Wow, there is a massive difference between the two, so take a look at not only how much more noise we have on the pixel 3, but also how much more washed out everything is on the pixel 3 versus the iPhone 10s max. Also, this was taken my way in 4k 30 on both of these phones, because again the pixel 3 Kennedy 4k 60, also notice how well the iPhone exposes the lights and everything in the scene.

So yeah. This looked like the Apple A12 processor inside the iPhone 10s max is indeed doing all the post-processing for every single frame in real time over a 4k 30 video, which is very, very impressive. The pixel seems either not to be doing that at all, or it's trying to do that, but the snapdragon, a 45, is, cannot match the power of the a12 processor, so yeah very big difference between the two inches of low-light video. Ok, now moving on to the front-facing camera, shots apologies for my hair I got soaked, but yeah here take a look at how much sharper and how much more in focus the pixel 3 is one compared to the iPhone.10S max and I actually took a number of photos in this case by the way- and this was the one in which the iPhone 10s was actually the sharpest now color wise. The 10s max is a bit too warm.

My face is just way too orange, so yeah front-facing camera shots in this case. The pixel 3 definitely takes this one. Also, something to point out is that a pixel 3 also has a second wide-angle module on the front, so you can actually zoom out and get this really wide shot like this one here and yes, everything would be a bit distorted, including my face, but at least you get so much more in the scene. So what about front-facing HDR? Well here the iPhone tennis max- has that orange tint again on my face, the pixel 3 is indeed more natural. However, the iPhone 10s max actually gets the clouds perfectly exposed and the skies well, while the pixel 3 blew those out completely so yeah.

The pixel 3 is a bit too dark. The iPhone tennis max is a bit too bright, but as an AGR shot itself, the icon tennis max takes this one okay. So this is a front-facing camera test between the Google Pixel 3 XL and the iPhone 10s max. If this max at 1080p 16. This is so windy here and the pixel 3 Excel shoots at 1080p 30.

So let me know which one sounds better. This is the other coming from business max, and this is the audio coming from the Google Pixel 3 Excel, so which one does sound better, which one exposes everything better apologies for my hair. It's like really windy, yeah. Let me know pixel 3 vs. iPhone 10s, which one's better facing camera moving on to front-facing photo taken in low-light with the front facing camera.

So here there's a massive difference between the two. The pics of 3 takes this one by a long shot. So it's brighter the colors are more vibrant, instead of being basically absent completely on the iPhone 10s. Also, keep in mind that a pixel 3 has that second wide-angle camera on the front which captures so much more and in this case it's actually brighter and more usable than the iPhone tennis max with a regular module so yeah. Another extra point for the pixels moving on to low-light with a front-facing camera with the front flash this time and here to be honest, I, don't really like either of them.

The iPhone 10s is just way too them. My hair is barely even visible, but then the pixel 3 Excel is way too bright. It looks as if I'm using the back facing flash, so yeah I don't know. Maybe the pixel 3 is a bit more usable Gilliam in the comments which one would you guys pick, okay, so to say front facing camera test between the pixel 3 Excel and the iPhone 10s max I'm gonna comments, which one looks better in low light on facing camera again, I think the pixel 3 is brighter, but it's a bit hard to tell so. The iPhone tennis max seems to have more noise.

Now the viewing angles needs to be about the same on both, however, on the pixel I can actually zoom out. Let me try and do that Ago now on the pixel I'm zoomed out, and the second module is significantly worse in low-light, then the main one, but at least we can see more yeah. Let me know comments which one you guys think looks better. Moving on to portrait mode would a front-facing camera, and here there's a massive difference between the two, so the pixel 3 is so, so much sharper than the iPhone tennis max is the iPhone 10s. This gets more of the background and focused, so it's not as portrait you to say, as the pixel is so here.

I do prefer to pixel, even though it has no gradual depth of field like the iPhone 10s does, and instead, basically max asked me out and hardly liked in a Photoshop edit so and just blurt out everything in the background, but yeah Lin of comments, which one do you guys prefer I would go for the pixel move you're on to portrait mode, but with a back facing camera at this time and ok, probably the first thing that even noticed is the magical floating umbrella thumbs. For that the handle is completely blurred out on the iPhone 10s max the pixel three didn't do a perfect job, but at least it did a better job than the iPhone 10s. Also, the 10s messed up on the right hand, side of the image of the umbrella, so yeah some buildings are in focus where they shouldn't have been also the top of the umbrella that building as well and for some reason, my coat is also blurred out on the 10s, a tiny bit where you know it actually shouldn't see how the pixel three definitely takes this one, especially if you take a look at the sharpness of the umbrella, which were some reason. The eighth antennas blurred out, even though it was about at the same level as my face was and similar eyes to the water. The water waves take a look at how gradual the blur is on a pixel versus the iPhone tennis max, which is very surprising.

Considering that Google does all this through software and Apple has dedicated hardware for this with those two modules and Google still gets it much better, with no dedicated hover for this, so very, very impressive. Moving on to the panorama test, the iPhone 10 s, TK 7.7, megabytes image and 28 megapixels in size, whereas the pics of 3, XL, 2, K, 2, megabytes image, which I know seems quite low res and spoiler. It actually is 5 megapixels in size. That's a bit strange, so actually tried as multiple times and for some reason, the panorama on the pixel 3 has always been really low res. This is very visible if you zoom in a lot, for example, in the parking lot, there is a night and day difference between the two.

The 10s panorama is also brighter again a bit on the blue side, whereas the pixel 3 is more natural in terms of the color, but aside from the color at the iPhone tennis max wins in every single way. Moving on to slow-motion the pixel 3 TK 720p video at 240 frames per second and the iPhone 10s take a 10 DB shot at 240 frames per second also. The audio is quite different, so 44.1 kilohertz sampling rates, audio-only iPhone 10s max versus 8 kilohertz on a googol, pixel 3xl. So listen to this now, I do like both capture 240 frames per second and both are about the same in terms of their sharpness. So 720p slow motion normally looks like 144 P on every phone, but on the pixel this actually looks pretty good ? 10 s max is sharper overall, especially if you stop and take a look at that coffee spill.

And finally, we have the time-lapse test and the iPhone tennis max takes a 1080p time-lapse at 30 frames per second 1080p 30 frames per second time-lapse. Why Apple you have the uh played 12 chips, but you're not using it for time lapses. Also, fun fact guys time-lapse is way easier on the processor on the CPU and the memory than 4k 60. Video is because you can take multiple images at specific intervals, and then you can merge those afterwards, not even in real time like you have to do for a video, so yeah for some reason, Apple doesn't allow you to do that and the worst part by the way is that Google doesn't even give you a time-lapse: option in the first place. So yeah, you cannot take a time-lapse on any pixel phone with a stock camera app okay.

So in the end, which one has a better camera, the new Google Pixel 3 Excel or the new iPhone tennis max. Well, the pixel 3 Excel takes the front-facing low-light shots by a long shot. Those were social sharp. The lighting was just so much better than the iPhone tennis max. The video Department goes to the iPhone tennis max in every single way, apart from stabilization, that's where the pixel definitely nailed it.

Now when it comes to regular photography and HDR shots, there are downsides and upsides to both, so the pixel does way more natural shots and colors than the iPhone does, which is a bit strange, because the iPhones have always been. You know well known for being natural and realistic, and the pixel seems to just do that better than the iPhone does. However, the iPhone tennis max processes everything way too much in the shots, even though in most cases that achieve the brighter sharper and better looking image. Low-Light shots with the back facing camera were a bit of a mix, so zoom wise, the pixel 3 takes it regular shots, mostly the 10s max. So it seems like the awfully tall processor inside the iPhone tennis max.

Let's play a huge role in processing every frame in the background, especially in the video yeah reason why we've seen such a big difference in low-light now there are a few issues with a pixel 3s camera app at the moment. So, for example, like I said the nitrite isn't available yet, so it will be coming in a future update, but we just don't know when and then taking a panorama on the pixel has been a hit-and-miss, so a lot of the times it wouldn't even process. The panorama at all I mean take a look at this I've been trying to process this one and some other panoramas as well, and it's been 30 minutes, and it's still not done yet. Now that a pixel 3 would be getting better with future software updates, and I'm, pretty confident that a panorama would be improved as well with high resolution and hopefully a time-lapse mode in the future as well. Google I know you're watching this video, so please add time-lapse and 4k be the first one to do.4K time-lapse is with a future software update and then finally, I couldn't really show you guys any daytime shots and bright sunlight conditions, because there was no Sun. It's been cloudy for a few days, and it's showing cloudy for the next week or so, so yeah thumbs up for UK weather, but I'll definitely have some HDR shots as soon as the Sun is out.

I, don't know when so do follow me on Twitter, at some tag for some behind-the-scenes content, and I'll be posting those comparisons as soon as again, the sound the Sun is out so yeah stay tuned for that. So we can see how they these two phones actually compare in bright, sunlight conditions with HDR again but yeah. Let me know which camera? Would you guys pick out of these two phones? Because they both have ups and downs, also check out my previous count, comparison between the iPhone tennis, max no 9, I phone tennis max and a pixel to excel, and also iPhone Tennis Max and the iPhone 10, but yeah I. Think of watching this video took quite some time to make. So every single feedback is really appreciated.

Kudos like you've enjoyed, let me know and support a channel, also joy. It is owned by tapping that joint button, and you can support a channel and also get some cool exclusive perks in return, but yeah. Thank you for watching I'm Daniel and stay tuned for some really cool videos coming very, very soon to the channel there of tag.
