OnePlus 8 Pro In 2021! (Still Worth Buying?) (Review)

Welcome back everyone, let's go ahead and talk about none other than the OnePlus 8 pro and see how this phone holds up in 2021. Now this phone is still completely worth it for sure. There's been some changes with the OnePlus lineup, I would say you know: OnePlus has released a lot more budget phones, and we should be getting the OnePlus, 9 and 9 pro coming out. I think in just like a week or two, so I wanted to get this review out of the way, just in case the OnePlus 9 pro. So I want to get this review out of the way before the OnePlus 9 pro comes out now. First, if you want to pick one of these things, up, links will be down in the description you can get them from there and help support the channel at the same time, but starting off with the front of the OnePlus 8 pro, you can see that we still obviously have that 6.78 inch, fluid AMOLED display, and it is a solid panel for sure really. I think I don't think it was the best panel last year, but it was like really, really good and, to be honest, I'm surprised by how you know OnePlus is going to improve on this panel.

The bezels are pretty much all the way pushed out to the sides. I have heard we're still going to be having the whole punch display. I think we're getting a little higher refresh rates like 144 or something like that, but still the 120 hertz panel, that this thing has its still so good. It's 1440p, and I think it's like a perfect panel. I really don't have any problems with it.

I think, of course, compared to like the galaxy s20 ultra from last year. That panel is probably the best panel hands down, but this one is still a really, really good panel for sure, and I would say it is one of its biggest assets for sure now it still has USB on the bottom of the exchange there and on the back, you can actually see we have that frosted glass back, and I think this was one of the best improvements that OnePlus did. I guess in the 2020 lineup, when you look at the OnePlus 7 pro and the OnePlus 7t pro I like those bags. I think they look good. Furthermore, I like the OnePlus 7t pro McLaren edition, but I think the OnePlus 8 pro killed it on the back, just like how you know the iPhone 11 Pro and the galaxy s, 21, plus and all them have frosted glass backs this thing by having that capability is seriously so cool, and I love having that.

On top of that, you have wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, which is huge. We normally don't get either one of those things on. You know an OnePlus device, but I'm super glad we had that capability, and we actually had IP certification on these. You know top and one plus a pro as well the standard one plus I did not have that, but the OnePlus 8 pro had that capability. So I will definitely tell you know when you're holding this phone in the hand, whenever you're really going to do anything with it.

I think it's going to be a solid contender for sure. I think this phone is a solid phone. You know fingerprint sensor in the display 120 hertz refresh rate frosted glass back. This is a solid phone. So there's really nothing that's bad about it.

I think there are some areas where it could have been a little of an improvement. I would have loved to see some type of micro SD card slot on this thing, but other than that, I think this phone in terms of like a body standpoint, is solid. There's really not that much to complain about so in terms of the body thumbs up for sure. Now, camera wise. This is the one area of this phone that I really wish.

You know. OnePlus would take a little more seriously and based on the rumors, it is looking like. OnePlus is really focusing down on their cameras, and they've hyped up their camera for the OnePlus 9 pro so much that I'm going to be so disappointed. If it's not a good sensor, I'll, be completely honest. If it's not the perfect sensor or the best sensor this year, I'm probably going to be a little disappointed by the amount they're hyping it up now.

This thing on the back has a quadruple camera setup, so it has a 48 megapixel wide nickel lens, an 8 megapixel telephoto lens and a 48 megapixel ultrawide sensor. Then a 5 megapixel, color filter camera. I'm not even to sure what that is. Maybe it's a depth sensor. I don't know now.

This is what I'll tell you about this camera. I think this camera isn't that bad. I actually think it's a pretty good camera on the back. It is 100 percent, not the best camera of 2020. If I've easily given that to the s20 ultra.

Maybe that's what 11 pro max for the 12 pro max. I think the OnePlus 8 pros camera is good enough, but for it being a flagship, it really needs to have some groundbreaking feature. If it's not like a top of the top like the pixel 5, I would even argue in a way the Pixel 4a single sensor may have been better quality than all lenses on this OnePlus 8 pro. But I do like how it has a triple camera or the quadruple camera setup, but I'm glad it has those three main lenses: the wide telephoto and ultrawide sensors. I think those are really, really important things to have, and even though it's not like the perfect camera lens, I'm sure it still has a lot of capability.

The quality of the camera lenses are pretty good. You have the ability of shooting 4k at 60, which I think is also something that's really impressive. So at the end of the day, I think this camera is pretty solid on the back, definitely not perfect, but I think it gets the job done, but I think the biggest disappointment was probably in the front camera. So a 16 megapixel sensor, which sounds pretty good. You know when you think about it: 16 megapixel, that's a pretty high lens, but when it actually comes down to it, you can only do 1080p at 30 on that front camera, and that is a very, very, very low resolution to be able to film it on the front camera for a flagship phone in 2020 and now coming into 2021.

That is still a pretty. I mean that it's only gotten, you know front cameras have only gotten better. We look at phones like the s21, the iPhone 11s, the iPhone 12s. All these phones, even I think the pixel 5 they all can shoot 4k on the front camera. Unfortunately, with this device, there's nothing like that.

You know only 1080p at 30 and the OnePlus 8t also could only shoot 1080p at 30. , and this is one of the biggest. You know disappointments on these cameras, so hopefully OnePlus fixes it on the OnePlus 9. I would really love to see that, but in terms of the camera setup that really pretty much covers it up now, let's go ahead and hit on. Probably, I think the most important thing about this phone as well as another, perfect thing about this phone, which is actually the software and the battery life.

So this thing started off with android 10 right now it is on android 11 and, as I said before, the software auction OS is probably the best software from any android device. Right now, I think, even still with the not bloatware but the little change that OnePlus did with option OS 11. I still think it's top tier. I love stock android. Furthermore, I love having these type of capabilities and stock android is great.

Furthermore, I love it, but oxygen. Os is stock android with more features, and I've said this for years now, and it's still going to be my favorite version of software, probably forever as long as OnePlus doesn't switch over to one UI, and you know with this phone there are roots out for, and I'm sure, there's custom ROMs up for this thing as well, so you're going to have a solid experience when it comes down to it. It's definitely not going to be perfect, but I think it's going to be a solid. You know phone in terms of the software standpoint and, most importantly, I think one of the best things about this phone is the battery life. This thing has that 4510 millibar battery, and that is a massive size battery to have on this thing.

It's not quite as big as a galaxy s20 ultra, but it's still a really good-sized battery and the fact that it's pretty much almost a stock version of android- and it has you know this much capability. I think it's a really decent battery size to have on this thing, and I'll definitely tell you. I think the software and the battery size are the top two things about this phone for sure, and probably the main reasons why I would recommend people picking up this phone in 2021 now ending it off with the performance. This device has that Qualcomm snapdragon 865 chipsets, an autocore CPU and arena 650, GPU and 8 gigs of ram on the base model and 12 gigs of ram on the top tier model. Now, with this phone in particular, I think it's still, as I mentioned all the time, you know it's a very fast phone.

You know it had the best chipset of that time last year, pretty much except for the plus version, and I don't even think the eight gigs of ram option is a bad option either, like I think, with the stock, almost documented version of phone like this, it's a solid phone for sure in terms of the performance standpoint and with 12 gigs of ram. You are future proofing yourself like crazy. This type of device, in my opinion, is one of those phones that you can pick up now and still have you know relevancy for so many years. I mean I even look at phones like the OnePlus 6 that I just re-reviewed and dude. That's still a super relevant phone that has so many features that, like this day and age, is still relevant and with the OnePlus 8 pro this phone.

If you even get it now, if you get it next year, it's still going to be holding you up for quite a bit of time. In terms of performance standpoint- and I think you know- one plus animations are smooth- the 120 hertz adds so much more smoothness to this phone too, and I think, with the ram inside it, the performance inside it, the chipsets, it's a solid performing phone. You know I mean it's, I think you know this year with the OnePlus 99 pro from what I've heard. The snapdragon 888 is supposed to be bringing that up a notch, but that doesn't make the old phone slower. You know I mean this phone is still plenty of fast and unless you're doing crazy, large video editing or photo editing of some sorts that you're requiring a bunch of ram to be stored up.

In the background, that's really the only problem that I would have in this phone, but even then 12 gigs of ram, I mean dude, that's a ton of ram to have on a phone, so this phone is still an extremely fast phone. Last year, when I did a bunch of speed comparisons and stuff, I saw that this phone was faster than almost all other phones, and I still think nowadays it's still an extremely fast phone, so in terms of speed and performance that pretty much covers it up now, to kind of sum up this video and to answer the question: should you go and buy an OnePlus 8 pro in 2021 right now? Well, this is what I'll tell you. I would definitely not recommend buying it right now before the OnePlus 9 comes out, because it's coming out in like less than a week, I think so. I would definitely wait until that phone comes out, and then I would recommend seeing you know how much these phones depreciate in the used market, because you know once that phone comes out. This device is not going to be worth it whatever a thousand dollars or 8.99 or whatever it is. It's probably going to be worth probably half the cost of that now.

OnePlus devices do keep their value pretty well, so I would still recommend you know once the OnePlus 99 pro come out. The OnePlus 8 pro is still going to be a solid deal, and it may even become a better value per dollar, depending on how much these phones depreciate after the OnePlus 9 pro this phone still has a ton of capability. The 120 hertz refresh rate is beautiful. The display size is perfect. You know the USB c port, I mean that's like a given nowadays reverse.

While this charging is really nice on this device wit hip certification, the back camera on this phone, I think, is okay, it's good! You know, it's definitely not something I would like brag about, but I think it's a solid camera. The battery life in the battery says about this thing. The software is the best thing about this phone for sure and again there's just not that much to complain about. My only gripe is maybe the front camera. I wish this thing had a better front facing camera.

You know I if it had a little more capability there with 4k 60 or some other crazy thing. That would have been really awesome, but I do think at the end of the day, this phone is a solid phone and for 2020 phones. This is probably one of the best ones of last year, in my opinion, so that really pretty much covers it up.
