OnePlus 6 Speed Tests & Gaming Review: The Fastest You Can Get

OnePlus devices are known to be extremely speedy and, with the OnePlus 6, the company doubled down on that reputation. You probably saw that OnePlus is using the marketing motto, the speed you need, but we all know that promotional slogans can often be misleading packing. The latest Snapdragon 845, UFS, 2.1 storage and up to 8 gigabytes of RAM it'd be silly to expect a slow phone, but just how fast is it when compared to competitors? I'm Daniel Marietta for DA? Let's get hands-on. So before we start. All of these findings come from an insanely, in-depth article published on the DA portal. There you'll find all the graphs and tons of details as to what everything means: here's the gist of it.

We put the 1 + 6, the 1 + 5 t and the pixel to excel to the test. In order to compare how much of a difference the snapdragon 845 makes in the six overs predecessor and how smooth the phone is compared to the most fluid device on the market, we added some gaming tests for those who want to squeeze every bit of juice out of this hardware. The first thing we tested is app opening speed. You can find the methodology details in the article, but in short, here's what we did. We measured the cold start launch time performance of Gmail, the Play Store and YouTube on the pixel to excel the 1 + 5 t and the 1 + 6 by launching applications and recording their layout inflation times, which ignores inline processes and minimizes extraneous variables.

This makes a good proxy for determining which phone is constructing the applications main screen faster, and we repeated this process 150 times for each application to validate our results. Here are the numbers. These are the best results we managed to obtain for each device, and they really showcase how the OnePlus 6 slightly improves launch times for day-to-day applications. Under these tests, the OnePlus 6 managed to be almost 40% faster in some apps, though, this ignores the fetching and rendering of resources which equalizes the final app loading time. Speed tests are often difficult to get right, and I've written an entire art call about what factors one must keep in mind when designing one of these tests.

You can find that link below, but if you want to see a more traditional test here are some clips of the 5 t, + 6, opening some heavy 3d games. As you can see, the advantage of the 6 in these tests is much smaller, largely owing to the fact that they packed the same UFS, 2.1 storage. So clearly the 1 + 6 is a really fast phone when compared to its predecessor, but sadly the 1 + devices are not exactly known to be smooth. The 1 + 6 brings an updated processor with a scheduled frequency governor. So we expected to see some marked improvements in this regard to test smoothness.

We extracted and parsed the frame data while running automated g. y tests that were calibrated to run identically across phones. We ran these tests too many times and obtained consistent results, but unfortunately, at the time of testing they performed a largely similar to the 5 T and worse than the pixel 2xo. Every bar above the horizontal line, represents a missed frame and, while the 1 plus 6 does a good job at not stuttering in both basic and complex list, scrolling such as Gmail in the Play Store many actions, such as activating side panels or more complex navigation, showed it's still no match for Google's buttery, smooth pixel to excel. With all of that said, these are tiny stutters that you likely won't perceive all the time, even if the more frequent enemy delight.

Lastly, we tried out some gaming on the OnePlus 6, mainly player, unknowns, battlegrounds with very high graphic settings and a frame rate cap set at 30 and lineage to revolution on max settings with a frame rate ceiling of 60. As expected, the Arduino GPU of the 1 + 6 performed admirably. Both games topped their respective SPS caps with almost flawless FPS stability, and only a handful of short-lived drops showing the 1 + 6 is an excellent phone for gaming with the inclusion of gaming mode. You can also with a resolution of specific games or a limit, the frame rate if either ever become an issue, but we doubt you'd struggle to max out any games for the foreseeable future. That said, it might help you save some battery life beyond the excellent speed, decent UI, smoothness and great gaming performance.

The OnePlus 6 comes with dash charge, which enables you to top up your battery extremely fast, even and while you're playing a 3d game. The phone's face unlock is also route acoustically fast at 0.4 seconds, even if it's a bit less secure. All of these factors also enhance the notion. ? 1, + 6 is a phone that never leaves you waiting, and we've been thoroughly surprised throughout our time with the phone. That said, there's still room for improvement, but most of our criticism could be addressed by future updates, just like the 1 plus 5t performance changed over time and across Otis right now, though, we can confidently say that the OnePlus 6 lives up to its slogan and does indeed offer the speed you need.
