NO DEX for Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G... AND HERE'S WHY!

Hey everybody welcome back to tech odyssey. So today I want to talk about the Samsung Galaxy z, flip, 3, 5g and how it doesn't have decks and how I think that's okay and some of you might be sitting out there saying what the heck is DEX and for those of you who are wondering that you're going to be just all right for those of you who are upset to hear this. I have some reasons on why I think that they don't put decks in there because clearly, it's powerful enough to run it and I don't think that's the problem. I think there are some other underlying problems, and we're going to talk about that in this video, so stay tuned, but before we get into that, I do want to say if this is your first time stopping by the channel. Thank you for being here. If you enjoy the video please hit the like, and the subscribe button and little notification bell.

If you want updates when new videos come out now, let's talk about this DEX dilemma. So for those of you who are still tuned in wondering what DEX is, DEX is Samsung's solution for a portable desktop computer. Basically, what it does. There are two different ways you can use this. You have wired decks where you can plug your phone into something, and then you've got the wired deck support.

It's basically like turning your phone into a computer. You can plug it into a monitor or TV, it's really cool, and then they have wireless decks. Where you can do this wirelessly- and that was a big thing that came out over the last year as well. We have decks in pretty much everything we have it in the s20 series: phones, the s21 series phones, we have it in the folds we have in the tablets, it's even in the tab, s6 lite and that's got like an Enos 98 tenants in it. If I remember correctly, like it's, not the most powerful toy on the playground, it this right here, the new z, flip 3, has a snapdragon 8 in it.

We've seen decks for a while, unlike the 865, the 865 plus now the triple 8 processors. So clearly it can handle it like talking about the z, flip 3. It is going to be a beast, and it looks all cute and stuff in a little form factor like this. This is a z, flip 5g, but it's a very unassuming phone. It's a very cool kind of pop fun, looking device, but it's got everything you need under the hood.

You can get 128 or 256 gigs of storage. It's going to have a 120 hertz, refresh rate on the screen now, which I think is amazing. It's also got the snapdragon 8 gigabytes of ram, and you can get 128 or 256 gigabytes of storage. There are much much less powerful phones and devices running decks and wireless decks. So why has Samsung not given this to us? It wasn't in the z flip.

It wasn't in the z, flip 5g and everyone kind of thought. Furthermore, it was going to come to that and then now we have the z, flip 3, and they still say no, it's not going to be in there. I think there are several very calculated reasons for this. One there's one consistency: you can look at across all the z-flip devices, and it's basically the Achilles heel of the phone, and it's the battery. It has a 3300 William battery.

The original z-flip had 3300 the z-flip 5g had 3300, and now this one, and it's perplexing to me- I know they want to keep it in that cute convenient package. But when you're throwing a v8 in a sports car, you don't usually handicap it with like a 5, gallon gas tank and that's effectively what you're doing with this phone you're, taking the most powerful 5 nanometer android processors, on the market available for mass consumption right now and throwing it in this tiny package. One thing you'll be curious to know when you look at the z-flip 5g and the z-flip phones, even the z-flip 3. It actually has two batteries one down here and one down here that are connected together kind of like the old trucks that had dual fuel tanks, and you could just flip a switch well this one right here. It does it automatically, but it draws juice from both of the batteries.

That's how they get it. In there, because the phone does this, when your phone does this, you can't really use it like a regular phone like this and put one big solid battery in there. Also, they make it kind of thin and compact. So when you look at it, the battery, I think, is the biggest reason why there's no wireless decks. Why? Because it uses processing power, see if you're going to try and use your phone as an actual desktop computer, or you're going to use it as a wireless desktop computer that uses a lot of battery on top of whatever productions you're running, if you're using DEX you're going to be doing some multitasking some productivity level stuff, I don't think people are really firing up decks on their phone just so they can run twitter on a larger screen and really do you think so.

So whenever you look at it, it's a recipe for disaster. I think also now especially the z-flip. I think the z-flip 3 is the worst candidate out of the z-flip phones to run decks or wireless decks, because not only does it have the same small battery, it's got a more powerful processor. The snapdragon 8 is not known for being power efficient, it's not known for saving battery and one UI is not known for being very good at managing battery life. So when you look at it, I'm not expecting great battery life, like I think for most normal people, it'll probably get you from sun up to sun down, but don't expect a lot more than that.

This isn't a two-day phone. This is not even a day and a half phone. It's not even like a full day phone, especially not for me. I get about four hours of screen on time. If I'm lucky like I was using my z, flip 5g the other day, and I was down to like 29 batter, and I was at 2 hours and 45 minutes of screen on time.

That's not good, but looking at the new one, all the same things apply as the specs before, but we have a snapdragon triple eight, which gets me terrible battery life. In my s21 ultra, I know some people say it's great for them. I've had nothing but problems with it. Then you look at the 3300mah battery. You look at the screen, hertz refresh rate when you take the 120 hertz refresh rate and combine that with a powerful processor and a small battery, well you're going to get a perfect experience for a not a very long amount of time.

So I have a feeling that the reason that they haven't done. This is basically that the phone doesn't have a big battery, usually when you're using decks you're using it for a long time, you're using it for actual, like desktop level work. This is not a casual function, so when you're using that you're using a lot of power you're using like you're working on your phone, which is going to draw more battery anyway you're going to have the screen on and then on top of that you have the higher refresh rate, which not so much an issue while you're using the phone for decks. But when you use the phone throughout the day, it's going to drain the battery like what, if you try and fire it up in desktop mode which is effectively what DEX is what, if you try and use DEX or wireless decks, which is going to actually use more energy, because you're not only have to use decks, but you have to cast it to what you're, using so middle of the day, you're at 40 battery, because you used your phone for a couple of hours. You got up.

You got your coffee, you went to work, you used your phone throughout the day, and then you want to use decks, and then you got 40 battery you're going to go from 40 percent to like dead and nothing flat. So when you look at the other phones, they have tremendously larger batteries, and this was a tablet function before it was a phone function. So, looking at the tab, s6 light at the tab, f7 the tab, s7 plus the tab s6, you look at these tablets. They've got big batteries. They're designed to do pro level work, productivity tasks desktop like replacements, and then you look at the s21 ultra.

You look at the s20 ultra. Those are really powerful. Workhorses with big batteries, 4 500, 5000 ml batteries. That's substantial! You look at the fold, 4 500 400 William battery for the fold three, and then you look at the little guy, the z, flip three 300, and if you've got one of these phones, you know the battery life's, not great! So don't fight me about that and if you look at it from a future application, I think that people that have the z flips know in their heart that it's just not ever going to work out. I don't see this as a something being handed down now.

The tech advocate in me thinks it should be there, though, like you are the master of your device. You should be able to use your phone the way you see fit. If you want to use DEX and kill your phone in an hour and a half, that's your prerogative. I don't feel like they should hold that back. I feel like Samsung should enable DEX so that people can use it plus.

Maybe you carry two phones, and maybe you just need to fire it up and use it. Maybe you carry an iPhone and an android phone, and it's going to be okay, because you've got a secondary phone to use. I think Samsung should open it up and put it on there, but I can see why they don't, and I think that's very, I think it's fine but yeah the advocacy on my part as a tech guy as a business guy myself. I would never really even dream of using it on my z flip, but I think it should be there if you want to use it, but I think that's why they're doing it and I think largely most people that get the z flip are not using it for business. The big reason most people like this phone, at least from my experience, is because it's fun it's fun.

It's nostalgic people. Don't look at this like a portable briefcase, it's just not what it's designed for it's designed to be fun and bring back some feelings and give you an experience. That is nothing like using one of these guys right here, which is a typical slab. So I think it's okay, it's not there. I think that's very much why it's not there, and I've had these conversations with people before so looking at it.

I don't really ever expect to see it. They've already said it's not going to be in there from the get-go. So don't get your hopes up over it. We did that already we thought maybe we'd get it eventually with the z-flip. We thought we'd get it with the z-flip 5g, it didn't happen, it didn't happen, it's not happening now.

I don't expect it to happen in the future. I really think they kind of expect people to have other types of phones for that or tablet. So that's all I've got in this video.
