LG Velvet Unboxing and 24 hour impressions - AT&T Model.

What is up guys. My name is guy. Until we got the lg velvet in the house, big shout out to lg for sending one out for review. Like always, all opinions are my own, so the lg velvet has finally launched the United States, starting with a t which is the model I have here, but will also launch on Verizon and T-Mobile later this summer, sometime in August. So I've been using this phone for about 24 hours now, and I'm going to tell you guys my 24-hour first impression with the lg velvet, so lg is trying to take a new direction for their mobile smartphone division with the velvet they're departing from the lg v series, and they're going with a new. I mean sorry departing from the LGG series, and they're going with a new line.

This model phone is actually the lg g9 in the actual model number, because this was probably supposed to be the lg g9, but they took a whole new naming scheme with it, and I, like it much better they've, also very differently, designed this phone from the previous g series phone, which was the g8. Obviously this looks much different from that phone, so I've been using it like, I said, for 24 hours, so let's get into my opinions after using the phone for 24 hours now, this video might not contain all the specs and all everything you know every little thing about the phone, because this is just my opinion. After 24 hours with the device, a full review will be coming, though, so if you're interested click that subscribe button and the bell notification to be notified when that review comes out, but for now just my impressions from the last 24 hours so, so first up this is a really good-looking phone design. This is probably one of my favorite lg designs in a while. Now I really did like the lg v60.

That was actually also a really good-looking phone, but it's also a really thick phone right. It was much thicker, in fact, let's bring in the v60 on here. Let me just get that v60 pop it out for case right. This is the lgb60 and that's the lg velvet that ginormous difference between these two phone thickness is very noticeable as soon as you hold them up side by side, but you do lose out on that bigger battery. This has a 4300 million power battery on the velvet, where the v60 actually had a 5 000 million power battery and that battery was killer in the past 24 hours, which I've been using the velvet for yes, the battery is good, it's pretty standard, in fact, but it's not killer like the v60s was, of course I have to use the phone for a little longer to actually get a good gauge on the battery, but has so far it hasn't been as jaw dropping as spectacular as the v60.

Now, of course, the v60 is rocking 5g. So as soon as you turn the 5g on this phone, which I did not use it with, because this was a Verizon phone and Verizon 5g is very scarce, especially near me. So I do not use the 5g with phones, but when you turn on the 5g on this phone, I'm sure the battery life gets significantly worse. That will probably still be fairly good, it'll, probably be decent with 4g. This thing was crazy: it was killer you're not going to get that with the velvet, but the velvet, with its 4 300 million power battery, is very standard on a smartphone.

It is not a bad battery at all, but if you are switching over from the v60, which I don't know why you would, if you are switching over from the v60 you're, probably going to notice that- and that's probably a disappointment but like I said I don't know why you'd be switching over from the v60 to the velvet um. Both are good phones, but they're from the same year, and they're pretty similar, I mean. Obviously the v60 has a 65 and everything, but let's stop talking about the v60 for now, because again, these two different phones- let's talk more about the velvet and the velvet itself, so the design is a really awesome design. I didn't think I was going to like the silver color at first right, so 18 just has aurora silver and I think it's aurora black or word gray, or something like that. Those are the only two colors which is a bummer, because the other colors look perfect.

I guess they're going to be only available internationally. Some might launch on T-Mobile and verizon does have a really nice-looking red color that is going to launch, but so far this is the only one launching United States which are for a t which are the silver and the black color. Both are fairly boring colors, but this definitely looks much better than I thought it was gonna. Look it's like a subtle note.10 plus finish the aurora glow finish that we got on the note 10, plus it's a more subtle version of that which is nice. It doesn't really blind you as much when you hold up to the sun, like with the note 10, it was really reflective uh.

So when you held it up to the light, it really is like really reflective. This phone doesn't seem as reflective as that, and the coloring is much more subtle. You do get a rainbow like effect, but mostly the phone's silver with that rainbow. Like effect, I think it looks pretty good. I, like I said, didn't, think I was going to like it at first, but I've been using it for over 24 hours really now, and I have a pretty good liking to the back finish of this phone.

Also, the cameras on the back here are flush, except for this one. On top, which is protruding quite a bit, it's not that much there's. Definitely a thicker protruding camera lenses on different phones, but it is protruding a bit and does cause the phone to have a wobble when you place it down on a table. Uh lg was very highly talking about their flesh cameras, but with the top camera not flush, it doesn't make much of a difference, though it still looks good um, but yeah. I wish they were all flush.

That would actually probably be a better look for lg and maybe next year, we'll get a completely flush. Camera makes this phone a little thicker, because right now it is quite thin, make it a little thicker, put a little bigger battery and make the top camera flush. That would be my uh, my personal opinion on what to do with next year's velvet. Well, it's actually another opinion, but we'll get back to that in a few minutes. So let's talk about everything else.

The display is a beautiful display. In my opinion, it has. The PO LED display on it nice, big size, 6.8 inch, PO LED display very vivid, very, very vibrant and very good with colors gets bright enough outside. I am pretty happy with the looks of this display, not like other lg displays in the past, like lg always made okay displays, but they always had problems like blue shift or like just weird issues in the past. This one's actually perfect, and it's pretty just it's pretty good.

Looking in its entirety, it's nice big, it's it has like a wider. I mean a taller aspect to it, so it's easy to reach across the display, and these curved sides are really nice. I haven't had any huge problems with the side curved display. Furthermore, I personally prefer curved displays, but some people are not going to be into that. That's, okay, you guys got the v60.

This one looks really nice with the curved displays. It definitely helps that aesthetic and that nice beautiful look of this phone, which is definitely trying to appeal a different market than the biggest tech nerds out there. It looks great, though I personally, like I said, love the curved displays. This isn't as big as a curve of slime like the Huawei waterfall screens, but it is a pretty big curve. Um.

It is bigger than the Samsung curves, bigger than the curve on the note 10, for example, but it is not as big as the waterfall displays. So overall the display looks good. It does have a teardrop, a water drop notch in the top okay, I mean I'm not the biggest fan of any notches, but that is smaller, and it's still, you know fairly good-looking regardless, so I'll deal with it. I wish it was a hole punch. Actually, I think, a hole punch on the side here would have looked better than the water drop notch on top, but, like I said it doesn't look bad, it would go with the theme if it was is it was a hole, punch with the kind of cameras being separated and everything but, like I said, not bad at all, on the display.

The curves are great. The bezels are very minimal. This phone from an aesthetic point looks awesome, okay, but I think, but I think before we go any further, I do have to talk about the biggest handicap, at least in my past few hours, over 24 hours, really of me using this device and that's the camera, so I've tested cameras a few times since I've started using it uh and since I started using it fully like as my main phone and the cameras are decent at best. Okay, this is not the best camera. The v60 did much better on camera.

In my opinion, I'll throw some samples here. The selfie camera wasn't bad. Actually, the selfies were actually quite good, except when I was taking these selfies outside they blew out the sky quite a bit, and just overall the colors look kind of dull um or over sharpened, not my favorite camera on a phone and that's going to be the one thing that really kills this phone. In my opinion, because people who like design on phones, at least in my opinion and my knowledge, people who, like to design on phones, usually also really care about the camera, so big recommendation for lg next year would be to focus on design and camera on their successor to the velvet. Instead of just design, they nailed design and nailed the rest of the phone actually, at least so far in my testing my opinion they've nailed the rest of the phone.

That camera, though, is definitely going to be a pain point for people looking to buy this phone. Now, there's going to be a good amount of people, because I've had comments on like TikTok and everything where I've talked about camera and there's a good amount of people who say I don't care about camera. So there'll be a market for this phone. It looks good, it has. You know good specs.

It runs really well, but that camera is definitely going to turn a lot of people away. I think the group of people that lg is really looking to entice with this phone probably is going to care about camera, and this camera is just substantial. It's standard. This camera is just standard at best, and it's not my favorite, but since I've gotten all the bad things out. Let's talk about some more positive things.

This is running the snapdragon 765 g. Now, people who know what the 765 g and the difference between the 865 and 765 are going to be like uh 765. It isn't as good. They should put 865. This phone and the 765 series processors have been running perfectly fine.

In my opinion, I've used other phones with 765's. In them this phone is not laggy, it does not have glitches. I know a lot of the other early reviewers for viewing the non-American units of this phone were saying. It has the typical uh lg glitches and everything. This phone is running very smoothly running good.

I love the fact uh that this phone's software was a little more redesigned right. So I still don't like how, when you pull it down right, it kind of goes off and all the actual modifications go off, but I do like this more transparent design. I think it looks better. I think the lg actually did uh fix the phone's design a little more on the software side, which is good because the software for the v60 right wasn't bad in my opinion, but it could have been taken as a little clunky right, especially the different things uh that I've seen like with the drop-down notification menu, which is still here, but it still looks better for some reason on this phone uh lg did work really well on redesigning the software, even though they didn't redesign it too much, and they probably could do a little more. They did do a perfect job and I think this software one's pretty good with the 765g which is in it.

I haven't, had a problem with it. I have no problem with the 765g. Furthermore, I recommend phones with the 765g anytime. In my opinion, I think it's a great mid-range processor, I think more, for I would not be upset if flagship phones had the 765g. I think a lot of like the 865 and whatnot they're really powerful, and they get great specs on benchmarks, but they don't really deliver you anything really special.

Unless you're playing really graphically intensive games which really don't exist right there, there are graphically intensive games, but the 765 really running perfectly fine for the most part, at least what I've been doing on this phone 765 has held it up like a champ, I'm not upset and, of course, with the 765g. You get 5g, not a big deal for most people. In fact, I'm more than disappointed with 18t's 5g. So because this is a 18t model and I use Verizon, um lg did send over a prepaid sim card with this phone. For me to use, I have gotten a chance to use ATT's network and the results have been extremely subpar.

This is a t's sub, six five g network um, and it's just bad is totally bad. I haven't gotten perfect. I get better results on Verizon's 4g network. Furthermore, I get better results on T-Mobile's 4g network um. It's just not good.

I don't know what ATT is doing over there, but I just have not had a good experience with 5g on this phone, also in testing 5g occasionally right the times the few times I got the highest numbers, it said 5g in the top corner, not 5g e, but 5g like the regular 5g, and I said that in the top corner. But when I did the speed test, it came up as Lt. I don't know why, but that's the times when I got the highest numbers was when it came up as LTE. Despite saying 5g, and in those times I was only getting around 76 megabits per second, which is nothing crazy on an uh download level. That's nothing crazy.

I've seen in at least 170 with Verizon on 4g um. So it's just been disappointing all the times. We're actually we'll just go into the speed test app here, we'll just go into the speed test up here, and we'll go into results. So these times on the bottom here, those were all 5g e right, not good at all, right uh. That should be more comparable to 4g.

It's not. I don't know why it's so low and then all these times are 5g right, also not great at all um again very incomparable to 4g it should be subbed.65G should be much closer to 4g than that it's really far off from 4g. In fact, it should be a little better than 4g and then all these times on top all the ones that say LTE right those are all times when I tested it, though it was saying 5g on top regular 5g, not 5ge uh. It was coming up as 4g as LC for some reason on the speed test, uh and those are times when it got the highest level.76.5 69.2. You know those are the times when I got the best.

It said it was 5g, but the speed test was saying it was Lt, so I don't know what was happening there. That's very interesting to me um, I can't quite say what was happening there. Maybe speed test app is wrong, or I don't know, but for some reason Lt was coming up instead of 5g, even though at twas saying it was 5g I'll attach a clip, because I did shoot a video of that I'll attach a clip here, so you guys can see when that was actually happening. I don't know why, but it was so overall 5g has been very disappointed, but you do get 5g with this phone, which kind of makes this to an extent future-proof. I'm not sure.

If this phone actually has millimeter wave 5g, I don't think it does. So that's going to limit you from actually using that, but the only way 5g to be honest, is years out. I think it will eventually become a pretty normal thing in cities and suburbs, at least the United States, but there's got a lot of work. They got to put into that network to actually build it out, and it's just going to require much more work than is going to be available in the next few years. So really, you don't have to worry about millimeter wave 5g, but you should at least worry about having a connection for sub 65g which this phone has, which um I'm going to make a prediction and say that the Verizon model of the lg velvet is also only going to run sub six and that is going to be launched when Verizon launches their sub six networks, which they're supposed to do later in August or at some point, they're launching a step six networks and I feel like that's why the phone is waiting for Verizon.

It's waiting for Verizon steps, no sub 6 networks to be ready. I don't think this phone at all is going to have any uh millimeter wave. It would keep the price down at 5.99, which is an awesome price for this one. We'll talk more about price a little later. So one thing I forgot, because I don't script any of these uh 24-hour videos.

One thing I forgot, while I was talking about design, was that the fact that this thing has a lg low, I mean not. Lg logo, of course, has lg logo. It has an ATT logo, it's not actually that noticeable on the silver color, but it's there um. I have not seen the ATT branding on a phone in forever, so I was actually quite surprised to see it on this phone, but it's not that bad. I mean if this phone in South Korea sells, for, I believe, like 670 or 700, or something like that um.

So if the ATT logo is the reason why this film only costs 5.99, or it makes it closer to that 5.99 price point- I could deal with it. I don't love it though, but I can deal with it. Another thing that ATT totally ruins about this film is the loads of bloatware. Now everything looks like it's deletable, except for the ATM t apps, but it just I don't like bloatware it's, because no one really does not many tech reviewers, especially don't really like it again if it makes the price of the phone a little lower, I can deal with it uh. You know, especially, you know from 670 to 5.99. That's a pretty good adjustment there, but it's just it's a lot of a lot of blowers send anywhere and the video converter app that I downloaded these, but other than that.

This page is bloatware, see why I don't like bloatware. Why isn't that? Why can't see why we don't like flatware, you guys see how we don't like okay there. It goes, so I don't know what that was. So that's why we don't like bloatware. This is bloatware.

This whole page is bloatware, except I guess, for some of these, these are technically bloatware, but some of these are essential. Lg, apps uh. This is all bloatware right all this stuff, and obviously you have the Google apps down there, but for majority this is all bloatware. We have all these extra apps on this phone. It takes away a lot from the experience of it being a premium phone which it feels very premium.

It's metal, its glass feels premium, has nice design has nice screen. Has a nice back definitely has to get better on camera, but that bloatware really takes away from it being a premium experience. So does the fact that it was packaged in a 18t box that also takes away from the premium experience. I wish it was packaged in the velvet box. Again, I have not seen ATT branding on a phone in a while, so I'm actually kind of surprised, or I have nothing carrier branding in a while.

I know the v60 did have the Verizon 5g logo with a little check mark and other phones do the OnePlus 8 on Verizon had it and everything, but still the actual full on carrier branding and especially carrier branding like this with the ATT logo, and the word ATT. I have not seen that in forever to be honest, just crazy, but otherwise I should probably finish this video, you guys probably getting a little bored here. We do have a Google Assistant button on the side, not remarkable kind of bummer, but it's okay. Otherwise, this phone is a great phone. I recommend it, or I'm not going to recommend it yet because this is just my 24 hours, opinions on it.

I do so far my usage of it, I really like it and I recommend it but stay tuned for the full review, which I will be releasing very soon in a few weeks, I'll be releasing it after I get some good usage with the phone, and I can tell you everything I think of this device anyway, guys thanks for watching click, the subscribe button and the bell notification to be notified of the full review of the lg velvet. Thanks again for watching see you guys next time.
