NEW (PRODUCT) RED iPhone 7 & 7 Plus Unboxing! #RediPhone

- If you've been waiting for a new color of iPhone to drop before you pick one up, today might be the day for you. What's going on, tech squad? Andru Edwards here, Editor in Chief of GearLive. com. Today Apple released two brand new colors of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Now don't get too excited. It's the same hardware, just a different color.

I've got them right here. Big shout out, by the way, to Apple for the hookup today. You'll see what I mean if you check out my Snapchat. They went above and beyond today for me in order to get these things. So again, big shout out to Apple for this.

Inside this bag I've got the new Product Red versions of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. Let's go ahead and open these up, and I'll fill you in on what the Product Red versions are all about. Now for all intents and purposes, these are the exact same iPhone models that we got last September, six months ago. These are basically a mid-cycle release. Halfway through the cycle between iPhone 7 and the next iPhone, Apple's freshening up the line a bit by adding a color.

But it's not just any color, and it's not just any red. This is a Product Red version of the iPhone. Apple has been making Product Red versions of their devices for many, many years, but they've never offered that on the iPhone line until now. Now when you see items with the Product Red affiliation, whether it's from Apple or any other company, what that means is a portion of the proceeds from that product purchase are going to go towards the effort to combat AIDS in Africa. It's a great cause.

It's one that hits home for me in particular, and I've always been a supporter of Product Red. If I'm ever going to buy an item and it's offered in Product Red, that's the version that I'm going to pick up. Now here with the iPhone, it's probably going to be the best selling Product Red device Apple's ever made, which means that that charity will get even more money to keep on fighting. As you see on the boxes, it does show the rear of the Product Red phone. It is only red on the back, as you'll see in a minute.

The front is just normal iPhone white with a silver touch ID ring. I actually expected this to be a red touch ID ring, since the touch ID ring always matches, or at least up until now has matched the back color of the phone. Here we've got a red rear with a different colored Apple logo, silver Apple logo. Over on the front, it's a white face with the silver ring. First up, you do see the product documentation.

Inside there you've got a couple of Apple stickers. You've got the typical regulatory notices. You've got a SIM ejection tool, if you bought an unlocked, carrier-free device, and you've got one extra piece of paper in here that talks about what the Product Red Foundation is all about. Up next is the iPhones themselves, again iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus only. You're not going to get this in the iPhone 6S or iPhone SE.

Underneath that is what you typically find in any other iPhone box. Again, the only change here is the color. So you will find the normal Apple earpods, the lightning two 3.5-mm jack adapter, a lightning cable for charging and syncing, and an AC adapter to plug into the wall. As you can see, looking closely at the device, though, the red is pretty striking. It looks really good.

It's a matte metallic finish, and even the antenna lines are made red in order to blend in with the rest of the rear casing color. Now Apple does try to match it also on the black and jet black models, but the silver phone has gray antenna lines, and gold and rose gold have white antenna lines. I personally do like the look here as it blends the antennas in with the actual color of the body. If you want to pick up a Product Red version of the Apple iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, there's a couple things you should know. First of all, similar to the jet black model, this device is not available in the entry level 32 gigabyte size.

What that means is, for the iPhone 7 you're not able to get the $650 version, and for the iPhone 7 Plus, you're not able to get the $769 version. Those 32 gigabyte models are out. It is available in 128 and 256 gigabyte models though. So for the iPhone 7, that means $750 or $850. For the iPhone 7 Plus, that means $869 or $969 respectively, depending on how much storage you need.

Now Apple has made Product Red IOS devices as well in the past. This right here is the Product Red iPod Touch. Putting them right next to each other, as we can see, it actually is not the exact same color of anodized aluminum. To my eyes, and for my tastes, I actually like the red on the iPhone better than I do the red used on the iPod Touch. Do you like the new color? Do you hate the new color? Is it something you plan on buying either here on the iPhone 7 series? Or if they continue this with the next iPhone, would you consider buying the red model.

There you have it, guys. That was your look at the brand new Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone plus in the special edition Product Red color. Be sure to drop a comment below. I'll meet you down there for further discussion. If you enjoyed this video, please do hit the Like button.
